Whipsaw Brewing was a favorable, back to reality contrast from the breweries we tried in Leavenworth, a town locked in place to its 1960s German tourist town roots. Ellensburg felt like a normal country town, surrounded by hay fields and providing services to their population, not just tourists. However, it never felt like a normal country town because the snow-capped peaks in the distance show that it is still a draw for outdoor recreation. Whipsaw has a nice outdoor patio with plenty of seating. There are vines and bushes encircling the patio, adding just enough greenery to shield the view of the industrial area and road. Trees shade most of the seats. We tried three small samples, one of them being Craig's Cream Ale. Whenever I see a beer with my name on it, I always get it, meaning I'm one for one in selecting Craig's Ales. read more

Lovely place for adult beverages and quite tasty house made rootbeer. There was Good Mood Food truck serving hot yummy food like fried chicken sandwich and spring rolls. They allow furbabies inside which is lovely on a under 40 winter day. Perhaps if I got a smash burger from the truck, I would have tried a beer. read more

Cute place and a nice hangout. We tried the flight. There was a coconut cream ale, a cherry sour (I believe), a saison, and I think a hazy IPA. The saison and IPA were decent beers, but the coconut and cherry were way too artificial. I usually love flavored beers, but these were too strange. The cherry reminded me of cough syrup and the coconut was like drinking tanning oil. Not pleasant. read more

Great beers. A quick stop on our trip and very pleased with it. We each had a taster set and a pint of our favorite after. Wife even picked up a six pack. The little food truck/trailer was very good. The wings were tasty and very meaty. Onion rings were good. The staff, I didn't catch her name, was very friendly and helpful. Kind and considerate. Great little place to taste some tasty brews. A group (4) of us stopped into Whipsaw for a couple slurps while in the area. Free street parking can be found. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Orders are placed at the bar. Table service is not offered. Website states 21+ only; however, house rules A-frame states children ok. During our visit I didn't see any minors. There isn't a kitchen on-site so outdoor food is welcome. Food trucks are also scheduled. Whipsaw has provided safe Covid19 guidelines/resources (wash station and sanitizer); however, ultimately it's the customer's responsibility to follow stated guidelines. Whipsaw offers a nice outdoor seating area. A limited number of tables have umbrellas for shade. My wife had a couple Smashed Blonde's for $6 each. I had a couple Stumpblower IPA's for $6 each. Both of us liked our beer choices. When I inquired about purchasing a 4pk or 6pk to take home I was advised that due to a can shortage I was unable to purchase any beer to-go. Staff was friendly, efficient and accurate. Overall, Whipsaw was both of our favorite breweries that we visited during the day. read more

We are staying in town for a week, and were craving a brewery. The first one we went do did not allow kids, and we are here with our 3, 16, and 17 year olds. I'm so glad we were redirected, because I haven't been able to stop thinking about this place. I had the food truck fish sandwich, my little one had the kids burger, and the rest of my family had various things off the menu. All of it was really delicious. But the highlight was the blackberry wheat beer. I ended up taking home a six pack, and we will be back for more. This place is absolutely worth a couple stops. read more

Beer is alright, nothing to call home about but not bad either. They have a burger stand on premises but also allow outside food in. The food from the burger stand is highly meh so I'd recommend getting your food elsewhere. We got a BBQ burger, a chicken sandwich, and chicken strips. The burger had at least a quarter of a cup of sauce drenched on it which was totally excessive. It tasted like they were trying to cover up the lack of flavor in the rest of the burger. The one bright spot was that despite being on a burger, the onion ring was still nice and crispy (but more on crispiness later...). In contrast to the burger, the chicken sandwich may have had its sauce completely forgotten. It was honestly hard to tell. The chicken strips and fries had the consistency of a fossilized pterodactyl, suggesting a long, forlorn existence under a heat lamp. At least the lettuce/tomatoes/onions seemed fresh. They definitely forgot the sauce with the chicken strips basket because they specifically asked us what sauce we wanted (barbecue) and they gave us none. Maybe they thought we could make up for it with the swimming pool of sauce on the burger? The world may never know. They have a patio area with 1 covered picnic table plus a bunch of uncovered tables. Note that the weekend hours end at "til close", so it may not be open as long as is posted online. Bartender was kinda rude when I went. I understand everyone has a bad day now and then, so this is just my one time experience. The can fridge has a sign on it that clearly says that customers must not to open it and to ask an employee for help. I asked the bartender if they could help me get a 6 pack. They said yes. With my hands purposefully behind my back so as not to appear like I was going to open the case, I took one step closer to the fridge case (I was about 4-5 ft away) so that I could read the labels on the cans. The bartender snapped "you can't open the case!" and gave me a look that could have withered a cactus. I said, startled, "oh, sorry, I saw the sign. I just wanted to step forwards so that I could read the labels because I'm having a hard time seeing from here. Is that ok?" They said "yeah of course" in a tone that strongly suggested that they didn't believe me. I'm sure people try to break the no-touching rule all the time, so I can understand their irritation, but that's why I tried to make my body language as cautious and non threatening as possible. Overall, I felt that the reaction was very off putting, so between that and the mediocre food, it did not encourage me to patronize this business more. read more

Eburg gem! Spacious and welcoming of all ages and furs. Twinkle lights and heaters outside, round barrel tables and long raw edge tables encourage a social atmosphere. Tonight with 10 of my friends and myself (Hispanic) went to Whipsaw Brewery for the first time with a group of my college friends, I am 21 however I still have a vertical ID so they did not serve me (which I understand and accepted fully) It is not a 21 and up establishment so we stayed for Bingo. I only bring up my ID because it seemed like that kicked of the treatment from staff to me. I want to preface I wasn't even reallly planning on drinking so not being served was not an issue to me.About half an hour in another girl from our group went up to order something and when she came back she told me the bartender said she was going to have to kick me out due to my outfit. 1. She was upset about my shorts which where barely higher than mid thigh as i was also wearing a sweatshirt so I couldn't have been revealing that way. 2. She never came to speak to me she spoke to my friend which is unprofessional and rude. Once my friend spoke to me about this I decided to leave and spoke to her on my way out which is when she told me I was dressed to inappropriately. Mind you before that the owner of this establishment came and spoke to my whole group saying we looked underage (no one was under 21) at which point if my shorts were an issue he could have said something to me. I also spent the duration of my time here sitting at a table with my friends. I didn't even get up to use the bathroom so I am not sure how she even decided my shorts were inappropriate. Everyone else around me had basic clothing same as me. I was then told that other patrons (there were no other people of color in the establishment) were scared of me and was then asked to leave. It was all very confusing, I've never been so humiliated in my life. I don't suggest whipsaw brewery to anyone who is a person of color or is even tan. read more

I overall have mixed feelings about this place. So I'm going to make list that features all parts of this brewpub. Food: The food truck here is amazing. Well priced and the wings are great as well as the fries. Whatever Buffalo sauce they use is quite tasty even on the fries. Beer: Overall, I'd have to say their beer is pretty good. My favorite like many others is the StumpBlower IPA which is a hoppy brew with a higher IBU rating. Not to mention, they actually had the IBU rating on the menu which is a huge plus considering that some breweries don't. The only complaint I have is that they serve their beer in plastic cups. C'mon people! This isn't a dive bar selling 2 dollar PBRs. Atmosphere: I have to say I really like the layout of this brewpub. Even during Covid they have seemed to make it work by offering a large outdoor covered patio with heaters. All these regulations have been quite frustrating so credit to them for making things happen. The crowd here was a bit different from most other brewpubs I have been to and had seemed to be the Easter Washington local type. If you are wearing skinny jeans and high tops you are guaranteed to get some weird looks. Politics: Let me just start by saying, I am a college student with some conservative views. However, this place is a full blown right winger paradise and I can see why people are turned off by it. Their incident back in the summer of 2020 didn't seem to help the overall image needless to say. I truly think they could do a better job at appealing to the student population. Honestly though, at the end of the day they seem to have a loyal customer base and I can see why they don't have a reason to change. This place is a very cool woodcutting theme. All of the tap handles are hand-cut wood. I thought the beer was okay, I had a sampler and none of them really stood out but none of them are really bad. A new brewery in Ellensburg! Hooray! Whipsaw is a nice addition to the town and the taproom and porch are very relaxing. I got just one beer here since I had to finish my journey last weekend. I got the Smashed Blonde. Now on this trip I had several lighter beers and blondes and Whipsaw's version of the Blonde was by far my most favorite. The flavor was wonderful. Visited Whipsaw for the first time a couple weeks ago, and again for St. Pattys Day. Ambience matches the name and style of the brewery. The wood tables/counters are beautiful and the metal chairs are a great touch. Perfect height and comfortable. We both got their IPA. The taste was great, plenty of hops, crisp and refreshing. Came back for the same thing during the holiday. Owners seem to always be in, extremely friendly employees! Plus, the Red Pickle is next door, win win. read more

I really wanted to like this place, as I appreciate the somewhat "relaxed" view they seem to have based on other reviewers. But I never got the chance to have an opinion , because as soon as we entered the doors and my 3 year old and my friends 7 year old out of excitement slapped the bar (supposedly. It happened very fast so I didn't see what they did) The bartender proceeded to say something along the lines of "even if they're kids they can't disrespect me like that, slapping the bar" All of the adults present were sure he was joking, but it became apparent that he was not joking. You can tell me that I need to reign in my kids or tell me kids aren't allowed, but to (loudly) tell me that my toddler offended you is outrageous and unacceptable. I was VERY disappointed coming to this brewery. It's my understanding that a brewery is a 21+ establishment. When I arrived there were 4 children outside running around and playing with crayons and cards and there was an infant screaming on the ground and crawling around the floor. Today is my birthday, so I was pretty bummed when I come to taste beer and enjoy my time with my family but I couldn't because there were multiple children running around and screaming. And even more disappointing when the person working there was crooning the baby and encouraging the behavior. Not a very smart business move. We chose a table inside because of the children, which we were looking forward to sitting in the outside patio. Anyways,It drove my family and four other customers away. I spoke with other customers when leaving and they brought up the screaming children as well. To top everything off the beer was disgusting. We got a flight of four and not one of them tasted good.
