Oh my...I was so disappointed in my recent visit. I struggled with the menu and finally settled on the hot hen. Our waitperson (who was extremely nice) said it was good. It was NOT. It was quite dry and not very flavorful, probably overcooked. I had to ask for extra condiments which still didn't work. The outside breading though was very oily. Not sure how they managed that. It made my stomach hurt all night. Between that, my glass of wine and the "upcharge" of $5.50 for a side salad instead of chips, that was a wasted $40. read more

I'm not sure what the hype is about, but this is my third time trying Whiskey Cake - first time at the Irving location. The food was ok, not sure if it suited the price. The waitress brought our entrees quickly, and checked in multiple times which was great. I noticed when the bill came to $32 for a salad and sandwich that we were charged for upgrade for fries, which were extremely salty like my salad, my boyfriend said she never asked if he wanted an upgrade and just brought it. We were in a hurry to get back to work and it's $3 at the end of the day, but that brings a sandwich and fries to $17 which just isn't worth what you get there. read more

Great restaurant. Excellent staff, ingredients, and ambiance. Their namesake "whiskey cake" is a must to try for dessert. That makes it worth the visit! Lost a star because the Beyond Meat burger made me violently ill 6 hours later. After reading similar stories with identical symptoms online, I'm convinced that some people's systems just can't handle that stuff. I would definitely visit again and recommend Whiskey Cake. Had the best Sunday brunch here! Not only are the food and drinks top notch, but the service is 5-star. Andrew was super knowledgeable when recommending food and drinks. It's a great environment for hanging out with friends. Short rib hash was tender and delicious. Bloody Mary bar had all the fixings. The local board has tons of yummies. So my first impression is that the scenery is way cool. Whisky everywhere. Nice. It did take a while to get a waitress but when I did I got two. They may have missed me initially due to a pit stop I had to make. The menu is very limited for breakfast. Not a lot of choices. I ordered the farmers breakfast the basics. The food came out super fast! Wow! Portion size was small for the cost. Let's try it. The jalapeño grits, biscuits and bacon were cold. Ugh! Egg shells in my eggs. I didn't enjoy the bacon either. Just because it's a thick cut it doesn't have to be tough. It was like eating beef jerky. Not enjoyable to eat. Next I had the whiskey cake. It came out warm with a drizzle of caramel and pecans with a side of homemade cream. Awesome sauce and this experience saving grace. It paired great with my pressed coffee. Pretty epic. Yummy. Popped in last Friday for dinner. Did my research beforehand and made a reservation online. I'm glad we did because when we got there we overheard the hostess telling a couple that the wait was currently at an hour (around 6:30pm) for a table for two. Host stand was a little hokey and we had to check in twice since the first hostess we talked to seemed a little scattered. The first hostess replied with a curt "okay" when I told her our name/reservation time; she then walked away right after to tend to something in the dining area leaving us under the impression that we were checked in. We sat there for about 5 more minutes and noticed that other people coming in after us with similar reservation times were being seated right away. We went back up to the host stand to see what was up, and another hostess was friendlier and helped right away. Once seated, we were quickly approached by our server Jason. He did a good job of checking to see if we had questions and was very efficient. When he first took our food/drink order, I scoffed (in my head, of course) at him saying that our order would be right out. How would that be possibly in a popular restaurant during peak Friday dining hours? I had to eat my words, because he was right! We spent around an hour at the restaurant from start to finish. this included everything from looking over the menu, ordering, sipping on drinks, eating, ordering another entree, and then ordering dessert to go. Our drinks came out quickly, our food was fresh and hot, the desserts were delicious and packed well for us to take home. I kept it basic and got a burger while my husband got the red fish with orzo. I had no complaints about my burger. Nice char, fresh veggies and a delicious flavor. Our only complaint was the size of the red fish meal. My husband enjoyed the flavors, but commented on how tiny the portions were. I agreed and was a little shocked because he was given around a cup of orzo and maybe a smedium fillet of red fish. It looked like a lunch portion, and for $23, did not seem worth the price. He ended up ordering a sandwich (which came out fast!) since he was still hungry. We both agreed that it would be a good idea to order an additional side or appetizer to fill the gap if he chose the red fish again.. We also ordered two desserts: the whiskey cake and their seasonal offering of sopapilla cheesecake. The whiskey cake was really yummy and the sopapilla cheesecake was okay. We are semi regulars here, normally coming during brunch. This week, however, we came with friends on a Saturday night. We had reservations and were promptly seated upon arrival. The appetizers shared were the fabulous fried green tomatoes and goat cheese fondue. Three of us got burgers (Each of us customized ours with no issue), and the chicken cheese melt. I think for me what sums up this course was one friend (who is a foodie) declaring that this was the best burger she had ever had. We then split the namesake Whiskey Cake to complete the meal. OMG this place is bomb! I love the atmosphere and I loved my food!!! My baby had chicken tenders and they were so yummy and tasted super homemade. The ranch dressing tasted a little to much lemon it. Slow service and mediocre food. We waited 15 minutes for drinks and about 40-45 minutes for our sandwiches which were cold. We sent them back and they brought the sandwiches back again after another 10-15 minutes without the fries as they were waiting for "hot fries" which were still not hot!
