Whiskey Rae's has a really laid-back atmosphere that made for a nice, relaxed night out. My wife ordered the margarita flight and chose peach, mango, and coconut flavors -- she enjoyed all three. I had two Old Fashioneds. The first one was excellent and exactly what I was hoping for. The second one wasn't quite as good and was served straight up, which I hadn't requested. For food, my wife had the lamb burger and absolutely loved it. I ordered the Big Rae's Burger and thought it was really good as well. We finished with the cookie skillet for dessert, and it was delicious -- definitely a great way to end the meal. One thing that really stood out was their extensive whiskey selection. After figuring out the entrance issue we were welcomed in and seated ourselves. Plenty of beers on tap to choose from and a menu that made me wish I had brought my wife so we could try two plates. Our server Addi was a waitress newbie and was trying hard, A for effort. Pleasant, nice and everything nice, attentive too. My friend and I had sandwiches and beers. This building has a special place in our hearts. We had our first date here almost 40 years ago. Great concept and atmosphere! I've driven by this place a lot over the years and always wondered what it was like inside. I kind of wish I hadn't bothered, but I guess lesson learned. From the road, the patio here's always jam packed, so I assumed the inside was busy as well. wrong! it's not. I could have thrown a bowling ball and still not hit a soul on a Friday night. But, such is life. Anyway, the menu looked good and I was torn between birria tacos and sliders. I said what the heck, get the sliders and be done with it, so I did. I got three sliders with fries and it was good, but not awesome. Fries were tasty, and service was decent. Sliders were good but not great. Nice little restaurant with a great selection of bourbons/whiskeys. Service was prompt, courteous, and timely without being intrusive. My wife and I had the chips and queso as an appetizer. The chips were crisp and tasty. The queso tasted nice as well but could have used more heat for my palate. I had the French dip with tater tots and the wife had the Honey Salmon Bowl. The issue is if you name a bar Whiskey Rae's, you have a bourbon / whiskey theme for the bar, you list a lot of bourbons on the menu, and one of your signature drinks is a Rae's Old Fashion, please be sure to make it the correct way. Heard about their Thursdays trivia, so def. wanted to try it out; gotta say it is much harder than any bar trivia I've ever done--like the jeopardy of bar trivia. Ordered the pirogies as an appetizer and was underwhelmed--flavor was bland, and pirogies appear to be deep fried in a fryer vs. in a sauté pan, which resulted in an end product that hardens as it cools. For the price I definitely feel like you should get a couple more. Husband had the chicken fajitas which he really liked. Best thing we ordered was the baked chocolate chip cookie w ice cream. What I'd definitely recommend is the cocktails; the restaurant's name should tell you everything you need to know about what they're known for. Whiskey choices abound; cocktails were strong and tasty--really enjoyed the espresso martini and the old fashioned. Service was just so-so. Stopped in on a Thursday while visiting a conference. The restaurant was aesthetically pleasing, well lit, and had college basketball sweet 16 playing on all of the TVs. We started off on a rocky start since our Blue berry vodka drink didn't taste good and had no hint of liquor in them. Sent them back and ordered basic vodka-cran. Next, I order 3 appetizers for the table: Calamari, steak tips, and nachos. Out of the 3, I'd order the pork nachos again. The steak and calamari were soooo overcooked and chewy. Great food that every single time I've been there I've never been disappointed with their food. The service is amazing. Their waiters are extremely nice. Their drinks also taste really good. I usually get the soft drinks because of how good they make it with the syrup and carbonation ratio and everything else is pretty good. I called to ask of they take reservations for two people, the woman said they don't take reservations. Pause. Then I asked if two of us could walk in, she replied yes. Ok. It used to be Avery's before it became Whisky Rae's. They have a wall of shelves of over 200 whiskeys at the bar too. They are out of Turkey burger, Porter house and tap #7 tonight. We ordered the 6 herb roasted chicken with an upcharge of onion rings ($3), house salad with honey mustard and side of broccolini, duck grilled cheese with an up charge of crispy waffle fries and a Cobb salad sans bacon, ranch dressing on the side. There was a $1 charge for the side of whisky BBQ sauce. Our waitress waitress is nice, attentive and helpful too. She asked if we wanted the food all at once or when it's done. I said whenever it's done. She let us know the sides that were an upcharge as well while ordering too. She brought us side plates when I told her we are sharing all of the food. The house salad is ok. The Cobb salad is okay as well. No romaine in our Cobb, it's mixed lettuce, which I don't mind at all. I do like the black slate plates as well, but they look like they are hard to clean. The duck grilled cheese is just ok. Duck was a bit to fatty for a sandwich for me and there just wasn't enough cheese to qualify as a grilled cheese sandwich for us. The duck is still yummy with the seasonal berry sauce. The seasonal berry sauce is good, maybe a bit thicker so it doesn't all run off the sandwich? Plating the grilled cheese makes it more appealing to see the meal and cheese as well. The 6 herb chicken has nice flavor for sure, the leg and parts are a bit dry though. The breast is dry as well. Good flavor but need to work on not overcooking the chicken. Kurtis checked up on us and took some constructive feedback on the chicken and the duck grilled cheese. Kurtis did acknowledge that they have had some complaints about the chicken being too dry. Kayla took really good care of us tonight. She's on it. Really good at what she does for sure. I wish everyone that ever waited on us had half her skillset. Name yourself Whiskey? Then you'd better bring it. I am talking top shelf Bourbon or Scotch. Knob Creek 15 year? Stagg 12 year? Bulleit single barrel? Makers Cask Strength? Bring it on Rae! Even some Eagle Rare would suffice. I could go on all day about the wonders of Bourbon, but overall I would say you will leave satisfied. Plus it's off the Clinton River Trail. Big parking lot and great location near highways. The whiskey selection is excellent (big surprise). The prices are fair, but on the higher side. Would love to see if they have happy hour. Went here to grab a quick few drinks one evening. Should have known from the name they had whiskey but was pleasantly surprised by how many options were available. A lot of places don't abide by the naming. All different types from all over the world. My first few options were not available so a QR code option might make the process more efficient so it took a few tries before mine was available. Only had an app which was decent. But we are always excited to find a new spot so we wanted to give if a try Apparently, it's the same owners and it's been rebranded so it's almost like they just changed the name. But we were determined. When you walk in you are greeted by a host/hostess. It was somewhat busy, and we wanted to sit outside so we were told there would be a short wait. We sat and the bar and ordered a couple of beers. Before the bartender could bring them we were being seated. He ordered an Oktoberfest (it's about that time!) I ordered a red. I didn't notice a lot of change inside. The same rustic look as before. I did notice a lot of fabulous signature cocktails have been added. We were sticking to beers though. We were seated outside at a high top with a wonderful fire pit in the middle. They have really done a fabulous job with their outdoor area. They have a huge bar area out there which is a fabulous addition. There are huge high top areas and even an area with couches. There were also picnic tables. We notice quite a diverse age group there. Every thing from babies to elderly. And even a dog! So, it's quite family friendly. Definitely will be a great outdoor option this fall as it gets cooler and dark earlier. The menu has changed and the options were very interesting. I ordered the shrimp and polenta. I wasn't sure about the polenta. But it was really quite good. That came with soup or salad. He loves his burgers. They had quite a lot of unique burger choices. He got a burger topped with pulled pork and bacon. Now, to me, that seems like too much. I like w much more simple burger. I don't even like a lot of condiments on my burger. But he gobbled it up. My wife and I ate here on a Friday night and it was a great experience. Their outdoor patio is awesome, especially when it's evening because they have a cool fireplace and plenty of comfortable seating. Then food was delicious, we had caprese salad as an appetizer and then had a great meal. I had nachos and my wife had the filet and I had the nachos...The pulled pork nachos were awesome as an entree and we felt plenty full. The atmosphere was great, tons of open seating and large TVs for the big game or just hanging out with friends. It's also a great date spot with plenty of nice / casual atmosphere to take in. The filet was overcooked abs butterflied, yet was ordered as medium rare. The smashed potato was good, yet quite small in portion. The broccolini was cooked decently, although a little under cooked. The beet salad was average as well. The buffalo trace whiskey was definitely good though. Would not consider this ac destination place, but some places to go fur AM average meal and a good drink. Best selection of bourbon I've seen outside of Kentucky. Reasonable pricing, owner was knowledgeable and enjoyed talking whiskey. They are short on selection of the usual very pricey stuff... Buffalo Trace Heritage, Pappy, etc... but that's fine with me... other places are happy to take your $100 for an ounce. It's made up for with some interesting picks of less absurdly priced stuff. I was hoping that Whiskey Rae's would be a great change and a new local favorite l, but sadly that was not the case. It's a shame because the inside looks gand their outdoor patio is nice. But the food here just simply was not good. I ordered a steak, it was completely overcooked not medium rare like I ordered. It was also so incredibly salty I couldn't eat it. It was served with two sad pieces of broccoli that were underdone and two tiny smashed redskin potatoes. It was a poor excuse for a dinner. My husband said his burger was just okay. read more
