I had such a wonderful experience at Whisper in San Mateo during a special mother-daughter date with my 9-year-old daughter. Even as a walk-in, we only waited about 5 minutes, which was amazing. The service was outstanding--everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. It was the perfect place to enjoy quality time together, and the entire experience exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend Whisper to anyone looking for great food, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

I was in the area so i decided to treat myself to brunch. I didn't wait long but I had first placed myself on the yelp waitlist before they said it wasn't working. I was seated right away when they announced they weren't using the waitlist. I ordered a pandan Matcha iced latte and the gogi morning benedict. Both were very good, i cleaned my plate. Staff were friendly and attentive. The wait for my items was not too long. The space is so cute and decorated fun and eclectic. The furniture was actually really nice. It's been a while since a brunch spot has impressed me!

Service was amazing as per usual, the manager and all the staff are really friendly and welcoming. This is my 2nd time here and I really love coming with a group. The interior overall is so cozy but modern at the same time, perfect for pictures!! Overall I would say the pastas are 7/10. My favorite was the mango pancakes (8/10) and the gochujang chicken (7.5/10). The pancakes were fresh, soft, and topped with fresh cream and mangos (not too sweet either). The chicken was also pretty affordable $15 and was a nice appetizer.

Huge wait time ever since they opened. Our family had a reservation and still had to wait after we checked in. Amazing decor inside and even the utensils had a unique touch to it. Great food selection for brunch - Korean/American fusion. Overall, I would like to come back if the wait time wasn't so long. Truffle oyster - expected to be creamier - more watery. Corn ribs - mild flavor Kimchi carbonara - probably my favorite dish! Very delicious and flavor was rich. Creamy and savory! We even saved the leftover sauce to mix with other noodles afterwards. Fried chicken and waffles - felt like just every other place Latin sunrise omelette - it was good! Very light and healthy. I really enjoyed eating the purple yam with it.

We went for dinner on a Saturday night and were immediately seated. If you're coming from afar, you can also join the waitlist on the Yelp app. We ordered the corn ribs, espresso martini & kimchi carbonara. The kimchi carbonara is my fav dish from here & is definitely a must try. It's so creamy! We were dipping the corn ribs and the bread in the sauce. Corn ribs were good apps. Nothing mind blowing. The espresso martini, my fiancé ranked it his second favorite & wished it was more creamy. Parking is street meter. After 6pm it's free. Can be difficult to find parking on weekends. Would come back again for the kimchi carbonara!! it lives in my mind rent free.

My family came here for Father's Day with a reservation. Considering how busy they were, we had a great time. The space is very nice with an additional upstairs area. We unfortunately did have to wait a while for half of our dishes to come out. However, the staff were very accommodating and consistently came to update us on our items. We were told that two of their chefs called out sick so it was understandable. The food was delicious. We got a variety of items but my favorite was the kimchi carbonara. Definitely recommend it. I would love to try their breakfast menu one of these days.

Perfect vibes for a girl brunch. I've done so 2 weekends back to back already and everyone has been happy. Just be sure to make a reservation unless you don't mind waiting 35-45 minutes on a weekend. The menu has variety, service is good, and food is tasty. Fresh squeezed orange juice available is the cherry on top. I tried: -Chicken and waffles -Build your own breakfast with sweet potato fries, scrambled eggs, toast, and bulgogi beef -Fresh orange juice Looking forward to trying dinner service one day.

Father's Day dinner. Busy spot but made easier w/ reservations through Yelp. Friendly staff that was attentive. Cool and casual vibe with a comfy interior. Seating at 2 levels. Food was good. Kimchi carbonara was a clear winner. Every dish presented well... however, some dishes lacked a bit of flavor. Will try their brunch next time. Worth a try.

Saw this place in my IG feed, and so since I was in the area, I decided to try it. Came here for dinner so I was not able to order The Omelets Series, The Morning Edition, and Benedict Studies. I ordered the Sweet & Salt. It was a little funky looking with one medium sized chicken on top and three smaller ones underneath it. But the taste was good! The croffle was cooked perfectly. The chicken was nicely coated and tender. The inside of the restaurant was aesthetically nice. Great atmosphere.

My mom saw this place on social media and wanted to come and try it. Went on a Friday afternoon, relatively busy for midday on a weekday. Food was good not great, aesthetically pleasing for IG pics and all that but flavors of each dish we got didn't stand out massively. Crème Brûlée French Toast was a couple pieces of French toast with custard and a lil bit of torched sugar on top. Skillet was good but sort of tasted flat? Like it was all of one flavor across the whole skillet, very savory. Rice, veggies?, meat all tasted the same. Was looking for more contrast, even more than what the tomatoes brought to the skillet. My mom enjoyed the chicken and waffles but stated that if we come back we will try the ube pancakes instead. There's a parking lot a couple blocks down and street parking is available.

Kimchi carbonara and gochujang fried chicken are a must try! Think creamy pasta with a subtle flavor of kimchi and sweet and crispy Korean fried chicken. Cast iron stone axe was a bit of a let down, though the wagyu finger rib was tender, the flavor combination wasn't that balanced in my opinion. Crème brulee french toast tasted expected, the mango pancake next to us looked yum, so might try that next time. Wait time was about 30 minutes for a party of 5 on a Saturday afternoon. QR code is available for ordering, but server was always around to check in on us as well. Ambiance was bright, lively, and reasonably loud. Decent spot for catching up with friends!

Came for dinner on a Tuesday and the restaurant had plenty of open tables available. Kimchi carbonara was fantastic - not too spicy, creamy, flavorful, and the spaghetti was good. Loved that it came with bread too. Mango Scallop Ceviche was okay, nothing out of the ordinary. The Marrow Coast Cioppino was meh. I wouldn't get this again. The shrimp was kinda small and tough, not fresh/crunchy. Flavor was a bit acidic. Bone marrow was fine. Wish this dish came with more bread because there wasn't anywhere enough to eat the rest of the dish. Would love to come back and try their brunch dishes, but definitely not worth a long wait based on what we tried for dinner.

Whisper is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in San Mateo! The dinner menu did not disappoint. The space is beautiful and perfect for a date night or dinner with friends. We especially loved the Truffle Wagyu Yukke and the bone marrow--both were packed with flavor and beautifully presented. Service was friendly and attentive, and every dish felt thoughtfully crafted. If you've only been here for brunch, definitely come back for dinner!

Love the place, it was bright and spacious. Food is delicious especially the Salt and Sweet, the Shoyu-butter Corn ribs, and the truffle cream, oyster and mushrooms. Very flavorful and the servings were just right. Staff are nice but service is slow. Could be due to short staff. read more

Was excited by the menu choices, and of course, the really nice ambience, but the food fell short of expectation. There's a pretty long wait but the line does move pretty quickly, and a huge plus for being able to join the Yelp waitlist online. The service was prompt and friendly, and despite the initial server's claims about not having enough FOH staff and asking us to order through the QR code on the table, two servers did come around in 5 and 10 minutes to ask if they could help me and my friend. The food also came out super quickly! I ordered a hojicha latte, which unfortunately came out lukewarm from the first sip. I also had the Triangle melt, which was a deep fried panko crusted tortilla with cream cheese and shrimp. The plate advertised it would come with cream sauce, but my tortilla sat on top of a large glob of Mae Ploy sauce. While it was not necessarily terrible, I wonder when Mae Ploy sauce by itself became a finishing sauce for a higher end brunch place.... Overall the food is lackluster, and I won't be back for it again. Service is great though! read more

On April 5th, my friend and I had brunch here. We got the Cast Iron Egg with Wagyu beef and Kimchi Carbonara, which were both was super tasty, especially the carbonara was delicious. However, I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and there were no hand soap and hot water. I informed one of the server about not having hand soap in the woman bathroom. I went the bathroom again after almost an hour and there was no hand soap again. I informed another person who was dealing with some cleaning at that time. As someone having a safe food handling experience/ training in the past, it is a big NO if a restaurant doesn't have hand soap and hot water in the bathroom. Which means people who handle the food are not washing their hands properly and it is a violation of regulations. read more

I tried Whisper on Sunday, it's a very popular restaurant right now since it opened in January. The wait was not too bad but I did use the yelp wait list to put myself on there before heading over and checked in when I got there, probably waited about 15mins after checking in. The decor of the restaurant is very warm and modern art deco I feel. Order the Sunday Chronicle omelette and it was delicious, the potato medley was very good. I also ordered a hot matcha but it came after my food and was not as hot as it should have been. I enjoyed my experience very much though and would come again to try other items and maybe an iced matcha next time! read more

It's a nice place, I am glad I went on a weekday for lunch, parking is a challenge. The food was average, nothing was bad, disappointed that Match tea wasn't available but matcha coffee was. Enjoyed our time this morning. Staff were friendly, courteous, & efficient. We ordered two dishes. The Cast Iron Stone Axe was well presented & the beef tender & tasty. The Seafood Jambbong Pasta was a total disappointment. The dish presented did not resemble the picture on the Yelp site. Food was swimming in oil & seafood not recognizable. We had to remove & drain the food prior to eating. (Would you like to see photos?) Overall, we enjoyed our time in Whispers and will definitely return to try other dishes. The dishes I ordered (Gogi Morning and the mango pancake) were really delicious! The only reason I'm giving 4/5 stars is because my companions didn't really like their dishes (sorry didn't take photos). My friend ordered the "Coastal Green" and there were very few shrimp in the omelette. Not a good deal in comparison to how much beef was in mine. My partner would give his "Sea & Green" a 3/5 mainly because the eggs were slightly overdone and slightly above average preparation on the shrimp too. His dish also came out much later than ours. Overall, some kinks to work out, but it has potential! read more

Just tried Whisper, a new brunch spot in downtown San Mateo, and it did not disappoint. The food is good, portions are huge, and ambience is easygoing with that laid-back California chill vibe--perfect for a relaxed brunch. Staff are friendly and helpful even when they are short staffed on the day of our visit, only two waiters working the floor serving 40-50 customers. All of them work really hard and nonstop. Management needs to resolve this issue quickly if not afraid that they might lose some good workers. Other than that definitely a great new addition to the downtown scene! read more

Came during their soft opening and they were out of most of the drink menu but the food was good! We tried the chorizo scramble- solid and I'd get it again although they ran out of the breakfast potatoes that we were told would be back in an hour which I found odd but the subbed fries were good, mango pancakes- these were also good but could've used more mango or mango flavor in the cream sauce. We weren't a fan of the fried chicken and croffle- the chicken was really dry and hard to chew and I can now say that I'm just not a fan of croffles but that's been everywhere I've tried. Would definitely go back and try some of the other items! read more

Came here on a Friday evening and we were seated right away. Ordering is done through online, which was very easy and convenient. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and for a party of four, three appetizers and two entrées worked out for us. Everything we tried was delicious, but the standout was definitely the kimchi carbonara!! So good and unique. Great experience overall and would absolutely come back! I tried a new brunch spot and loved it! I had the mango pancakes and a latte. The pancakes came topped with a cream filling in a metal ring -- when lifted, the cream slowly oozed out over the pancakes. It was a quick and entertaining presentation and made the dish feel special. Also, it was light and not super sweet. The wait time for a table was quick and also for our food. Everyone was very welcoming, which makes this spot even more appealing. I'm looking forward to my next visit to try other dishes! read more

The ambience, food and service are all great. The hosts make an effort to sit you on time even when there's a line, and food comes out fairly quickly once you've ordered. The Foreigner Favorite was yummy. I really liked the sausages and poached eggs. I love potatoes, and I wish these were a little bit crispier. Regardless, it was an enjoyable dish overall. Holy Prawns with Vermicelli was my favorite dish. The vermicelli soaked up all the prawn juices, making it even better than the prawns. We also ordered the 5-Spice Chicken with Garlic Noodles ($32). The garlic noodles were satisfying, but the chicken tasted like an ordinary rotisserie chicken. I don't think this dish worth the price. Pork Ribs with Coconut Sticky Rice and Pickled Carrot was another disappointment. The ribs were tough and didn't easily pull away from the bone, making them difficult to eat. The coconut sticky rice, was surprisingly delicious For drinks, we tried the Cà Phê Trio, which included Corn Milk Coffee, Salted Vietnamese Coffee, and Pistachio Coffee, all served in cute little jugs, none of the three really stood out. Pandan Coffee was also underwhelming. Other than its green color, it tasted just like a regular Vietnamese coffee, with very little pandan flavor. Service was disappointing. Since we ordered many dishes to share, our plates quickly filled up with rib bones and prawn shells. We asked a waiter to replace our plates, and although he nodded, he never came back. We eventually had to ask another server. Overall, the food was hit or miss. A few dishes were enjoyable, while others were not, and the prices were higher than what the quality justified.

Dear Whisper Manager, I wanted to share feedback regarding our experience at Whisper during our visit on Saturday, June 27. We had a reservation at 1:45 PM for a party of 10 to celebrate a special 50th birthday. We arrived a few minutes early, but our table was not ready until approximately 2:10 PM--about 25 minutes after our reservation time. Because the restaurant closes at 3:00 PM, we expressed our concern about feeling rushed. We were assured that, since we had been seated so late, we would be welcome to stay as long as we needed. Our first disappointment was the seating arrangement. We were placed upstairs in a corner of the room at four small round tables pushed together to accommodate our party. The space was extremely cramped, making it difficult to enjoy our meal comfortably. With so many dishes arriving, there simply wasn't enough table space, and we found ourselves constantly moving plates and rushing to finish food just to make room for the next items. Given that we were celebrating such a milestone birthday, we had hoped to wait for one of the larger tables on the main floor, where the atmosphere is much more inviting. Unfortunately, we were made to feel that this was not an immediate option, given the timing. I do want to acknowledge that our server was friendly and pleasant while she was with us. Around the restaurant's closing time, however, she informed us that she needed to leave because she worked another job after her shift. She said another staff member would take over our table. Unfortunately, no one ever did. From that point forward, our party received virtually no service. No one checked on us, no one informed us that the kitchen was preparing to close or taking last orders, and we were never given an opportunity to order dessert. Had someone simply let us know the kitchen was closing, we certainly would have placed our dessert order before it was too late. Instead, we were left to fend for ourselves. We had to refill our own water glasses using a pitcher left near the staircase, flag someone down to request to-go boxes, and ask for plates so we could serve the birthday cake we had brought. Because service became so limited and we were essentially the last guests remaining, we ultimately decided not to cut the cake at the restaurant. We left and celebrated the birthday elsewhere instead. What made this particularly disappointing was that our bill totaled nearly $600, and an automatic gratuity of approximately $88 was added because of our party size. While we understand and respect automatic gratuities for large groups, it was frustrating to pay a substantial service charge when, after 3:00 PM, we essentially received no service at all. We chose Whisper for a special milestone celebration and were excited to experience your restaurant for the first time. Unfortunately, the combination of the delayed seating, uncomfortable table arrangement, lack of communication regarding the kitchen closing, and complete absence of service after our original server left left us very disappointed. What should have been a memorable birthday lunch ended on a frustrating note. I'm sharing this feedback in hopes that it helps improve the experience for future guests celebrating special occasions. Better communication, a smoother staff handoff, and ensuring that large parties continue to receive attentive service--even after the restaurant closes to new guests--would have made a tremendous difference! read more

Visited today and the overall experience left us feeling uncertain about this place. Don't get me wrong the food was solid, not the best or anything special but still solid nonetheless. What really rubbed us the wrong way though was the absolutely awful service from the servers, they were awful. we were seated fast, we had our drink order taken right away and our drinks came out relatively fast but unfortunately the good service ended there. About 15 minutes after our drinks came out we got restless and decided to order online through the QR code. About 10 minutes later our server finally decided to come take the order but we informed him that we had already placed the order online, not a word from him just a nod and he walked away. About 5 minutes later our food came out, again nothing special. Throughout our meal our server came to check on us once and he failed to bring us our plates that we had asked for. We had to get up and grab our sauces ourselves from the kitchen counter because our server still never went back to check on us. We made a tiny remark to the busser that our server was not the best. To which our server came right away after that remark, he asked if we needed anything else, we requested ice water to which HE FORGOT AGAIN!!!! This place really really needs to consider who they pick as servers. I will say that we will highly highly HIGHLY praise and appreciate the service from the bussers, they were on top of it and towards the end of our visit they were the ones taking care of our table and order. So sad as the restaurant is beautiful and it's 1000% the vibe that we were looking for, we just feel that you would expect such an establishment to have peak service but that is sadly not the case for Whisper. 2 stars just for the bussers but if it weren't for them we'd definitely give only 1. read more

I recently came across Whisper, a newer brunch spot, and decided to check it out with my family. I'm glad we did because it was a great place to spend a relaxing brunch together. The restaurant has a clean, modern interior with a bright and welcoming atmosphere. It feels open without being too loud, making it a nice place to catch up over a meal. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming, and we felt well taken care of throughout our visit. We ordered the Shoyu-Butter Corn Ribs, Crème Brûlée French Toast, and the Miso Ssamjang Bossam. The Shoyu-Butter Corn Ribs were probably the only dish that fell a little short for me. They weren't bad, but they were a bit bland and didn't have as much flavor as I was expecting. I was hoping for a stronger buttery, savory glaze to really make the corn stand out. The Crème Brûlée French Toast, on the other hand, was delicious. The caramelized sugar on top gave it a nice crisp texture, while the inside stayed soft and fluffy without being overly sweet. My favorite dish was definitely the Miso Ssamjang Bossam. The pork belly was tender, flavorful, and paired really well with the rich miso ssamjang sauce. It was savory, well balanced, and easily the standout dish of the meal. They told me they couldn't make it because the kitchen is closed mind you I waited for an hour. Had to tell them to take it off the list. Again this was my birthday brunch. Not a good impression. Also the "Dajuk" was cold when we received it. Over all I was disappointed. Yesterday I went and service was poor. Our waiter greeted us. Sat us. We ordered the sunrise omelette. Which had chorizo. Hardly any chorizo, hardly any cheese. They sprinkled cheese on top which was interesting since it was an omelette. Potatoes were okay,,, very basic. Got toast but the toast was cold and had no butter. No big deal was going to ask for some but no waiter around. He disappeared. Did a full 360. He was sitting at the bar eating. Guess he was off and didn't tell us. So we didn't know who our waiter was. Didn't see anyone for a good 30 mins. We wanted butter, hot sauce and napkins. We gave up and lost our appetite. Won't be coming back. Be better with your customer service and hope the menu gets better. Food isn't anything special. And it's pricey. read more

Finally made it to Whisper for brunch, and it definitely lived up to the hype! We made a reservation, which made everything super easy--we were seated right away with no wait. My friend and I shared the Kimchi Carbonara, Truffle Mushrooms, and Gochujang Fried Chicken. My absolute favorites were the Truffle Mushrooms and the Kimchi Carbonara. Both dishes were SO flavorful, and I loved that each one had its own unique sauce and flavor profile. They also came with bread, which was perfect for soaking up every last bit of sauce (honestly, one of the best parts ). For drinks, I got the Mango Matcha Latte, and it was so yummy--the perfect brunch drink! The restaurant itself was super clean and had such a cute, stylish vibe. Everyone there was dressed so well, and the bar area looked especially beautiful and elevated. On top of that, our servers were incredibly attentive, friendly, and sweet, which made the experience even better. The combination of crispy fried chicken over a soft, buttery croffle is already a classic, but what really stood out was the balance. The chicken was juicy inside with a perfectly crunchy coating, and the waffle had that light crisp on the outside while staying fluffy. The syrup tied everything together without making it overly sweet, and the fresh fruit added a nice refreshing contrast. The orange slice on top wasn't just for looks--it actually gave a subtle citrus brightness that made the whole dish feel more layered. Every bite had that sweet-savory harmony done right. This place has a nice welcoming environment when you walk in. We placed our orders. I asked for coffee with cream and sugar or honey. They forgot the sugar. I ordered the red dawn Benedict plate with a salad. The salad had ripped paper folded in it. I told the waitress what I seen and asked if I could get a replacement with potatoes and she looked at me like I should have just settled for the paper salad. The chicken with the Benedict was ok and maybe the salad rounded the breakfast all together, As I paid the guy asked how it was and I told him what I found; he said "you should have told me before you paid so I could give you a discount". We said we told the waitress and I guess these things are swept under the rug. It was a first and last unfortunately. Quality control and communication appears to be an opportunity for this place. For Valentine's Day brunch we decided to try Whisper. It was very popular this morning, many people had the same idea. We sat at the bar and John served us delicious coffees and answered all our questions about the other pretty drinks he was making. We ordered two different types of Eggs Benedict, the portions were generous and the side choices of potato medley and salad were both tasty. We had excellent and attentive service from Aaliyah. Love the decor and furniture, as well. It's nice to have a new restaurant in San Mateo that makes you want to come in and sit down instead of the sterile grab-and-go options that are popping up all over SM. We recently visited this fairly new café and were excited to give it a try. I ordered a hamburger and fries, and my friend had an omelette. While everything looked good, the food arrived a bit lukewarm and didn't quite have the flavor we were hoping for. The service was a little slow during our visit, although the staff was polite. As it got busier, we did feel a bit rushed with a few check-ins at our table. It was also quite noisy, which made it a bit difficult to hear our conversation. We got the Kimchi Carbonara, Mango Pancakes, and Gogi Morning! First time trying this restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised with how good the food was. Usually asian fusion restaurants are a hit or miss but the combination actually complimented each other and tasted really good. Kimchi Carbonara will 10000% be coming back for that dish the meat was marinated so well and the sauce was lwkey addicting to dip the bread into. Stopped by Whisper in San Mateo and absolutely loved the coffee. It was smooth, well-balanced, and clearly made with care -- you can tell they really know what they're doing. The latte art was beautiful, and the coffee itself tasted just as good as it looked. The barista was super friendly and sweet, which made the whole experience even better.
