Really nice place in the hub of Elm st restaurants and really great decor and ambiance and awesome vibe. Feels like a nice high end place but with a casual feel. The menu reflects this with cocktails, wine and beer and the menu is extensive on the beverages! The food menu is terrific and has so much variety and some really nice plates small and large. It was a theater night when we went and we had a 7.30 show to goto and our server knew that. We got there at 5.30 so figured that gave us the 10 mins to walk to the theater to be on time. We started off with some drinks. My friend loved her cherry ale and I really enjoyed my G&T , the glass it came in was just so unusual. The G&T took awhile to finally make it to me but i loved it. We ordered the tuna tartare and that was delicious and served up with fried green tomatoes which was a different take on it. Nice and fresh and nicely presented. Our entrees were the salmon for my friend and I had the Bahn mi chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. Usually this sandwich is with pork so I wanted to try this. The service for our dinner took almost 45 mins we had finished the app awhile back and my grind had another drink and still we were waiting. It was closing in on 6.50 Pm and at this point we would be inhaling our food when it came and rushing out the door . It came at 7pm and the sandwich was good but they should mention on the menu that it has mayonnaise on it as I don't like that but there was quite a bit on the bun. Not typically in this type of sandwich so I wasn't expecting it. The chicken was a good and flavorful and lots of other veggie fillings and the fries were great. My friend really enjoyed her salmon and the risotto it came with. Just disappointed we had to eat it all so quickly and leave some so we could pay and leave. We had our eye on the lemon posset tart for dessert but we didn't have time . We just thought since the server knew we had theater tickets she would have been more on top of it. Yes they were busy as it was a show night but the place wasn't totally full. Seemed like no urgency when we asked how long the food would be as we had to leave soon. I enjoyed the charcuterie board. The cheese with the truffle was creamy and rich. It was arranged beautifully and there were plenty of accoutrements to make this a well-rounded tasting experience. Was not a huge fan of the taste of the duck prosciutto. The salmon itself unfortunately disappointed me. For the price ($45), I was hoping for punchier flavors. Not a bad dish, but I wish the vegetables and the bottom had more forward flavors. Everything was nicely assembled and cooked, but it wasn't for me. The ambiance is comforting. Went on a Friday night with my friend to enjoy a long evening chatting and catching up and eating excellent food. We got both, the server was so kind and friendly. Encouraging us to enjoy our time and the food. She was also attentive to our needs as well. The owner did seat us and we enjoyed our chat with him as well. The menu looked so good and we wanted to try everything but we decided to share a few items and the dessert flight. And were we so glad we did. Everything was divine. So good. So delicious. I've been here a couple of times and everything is always so good. I had sea bass the last go around and it was so very delicious. I also loved the beet salad and I he desert was delicious! That was the nastiest grilled cheese I ever had. I went before a show and I sat for 25 minutes until a drink arrived. I know they were busy but come on now I had to give the food away to someone downtown who might've been hungry I don't know I think that's the only people who would've eaten that. I would've done better at the hotdog stand up at the park and I should've done that instead I spent like 60 bucks on some stupid drink and a grilled cheese with pickled carrots gross. read more

Stopped in soul Lu based on Yelp reviews, and was not disappointed. Seated immediately upon arrival. Cute spot downtown with plenty of foot traffic on the busy street. Selected the three-course meal for $65, where I could select any salad, entree and dessert for the price. I began with the roasted oysters ----with lardon (okay) and an undressed salad. The entree and dessert were what gives this review four stars - the noodle to sauce ratio was perfect. It was just enough pasta to not be overwhelming. The sauce was creamy and the lump crab was tossed throughout. The waiter recommended the dessert after I was trying to decide. He told me that y original selection was hit or miss -- the fig dessert, but the pit de crème was what they were known for. How isn't that I have not dined here before? We had an extraordinary dinner, one of the finest I've experienced in Greensboro. Or anywhere. I love the casual atmosphere with understated elegance. The space is much different than the last time I visited the previous establishment, Fincastles. I was pleasantly surprised how spacious the shotgun room felt. At the recommendation of our server, we all ordered off of the fixed price menu. This is the most cost effective way to dine at White and Wood. A choice of salad, choice of entree, and a choice of dessert for $59. The salads were incredible! All of our group's entrees were delicious and the dessert will absolutely slay you! Everything was impeccably prepared. A touch I absolutely loved was that when each dish is delivered to your table, the server describes the dish with great pride. This is not just a restaurant, it's a dining experience! This place came up on Google, when searching for a place to meet with my friend. It's right on Elm street, surrounded by many other popular establishments. The parking deck was just a block away. Esthetically, the restaurant is modern with wooden floors and tables, with plain white walls It was romantically lit and clean and would definitely be perfect for date night. We were a little late for our reservation, but arrived within our 15 minute grace period. We were promptly greeted and seated in a comfortable spot next to the Window. Our waiter greeted us and asked if we wanted tap or bottled water. We went with tap. I lived in Greensboro for 5 years, the water is fine. Unfortunately, I'd developed a migraine on my way to the restaurant and opted not to order any alcohol. My friend ordered the Sangria and said that it was delicious. The food menu is simple and easy to navigate. They have a "create your own" charcuterie that I was looking forward to, but my headache was not allowing me to be great! We both just oopted for the 3 course dinner. We both ordered the Brussel sprouts as our starter. It was perfectly dressed and the combination of ingredients made for a perfectly balanced plate. My favorite bite was a little Brussel sprout, a lardon, a cranberry and a bit of cheese!! Again, I wasn't feeling well so I only enjoyed a few bites before I had them box it up. I ate it cold today (next day) and it was just as delicious. For entrees, I ordered the salmon and my friend ordered the steak. I had them box mine immediately while I insisted that my friend enjoy her meal. Her steak was beautifully plated and it was cooked just as she ordered it. She was impressed by her meal. I reheated my meal today and it was divine. Even the risotto, reheated perfectly. Everything was perfectly seasoned. I just hate that I missed out on the crispy skin since I had them box it immediately. Finally dessert. We had them box our desserts. My friend got the red velvet which looked like art and I got the pot de creme. I don't know how hers tasted but the pot de creme was a flavor and texture party!!! The butterscotch creme and hazelnuts were absolute stars for me! The waiter explained each dish as they were brought to the table along with new silverware for each course. Overall: Load up on oysters and charcuterie. Skip the rest. Stick to wine/beer. Be mindful of surcharge when tipping. Great place to visit rarely for special occasions. Oysters/charcuterie, 5-stars: Oysters are fresh, not saline, and paired with a thoughtful herbed vinegar. While some may balk at the price, from my experience they are competitively priced especially for an upscale restaurant. Charcuterie is the best we have ever gotten. Inspired and delicious selections, a full board with plenty of bread/veggies/fixings to pair with and even their own special chocolate salami, and at $10/item we thought very competitively priced. Entree, 2-star: How disappointing. 4 selections with an exorbitant price range of $40-60. Basic food combinations of inexpensive food groups (e.g., potato, turnips, peas) that a modestly adept home cook could recreate with a trip to the grocery store (e.g., salmon with risotto). Small portion sizes, even modest eaters will leave hungry. Worst, they're improperly cooked. For example, we got the lamb rib rack, medium-rare. It came out with a blood seep, deep red to purple-ish meat, and no bounce to knuckle indentation (so the meat was rare to undercooked). Worse, it was way over salted. Asking the tables adjacent to us, the risotto was too dry (it's supposed to be al dente and creamy, not have individual grains falling apart), and the steak was similarly undercooked. Salad/dessert, 3-star: Salads are fairly basic combinations, but nice. At $20 each, they're what you expect for a restaurant of this price range, albeit a bit uninspired. Go to the grocery store and easy to recreate. Drinks, 2-star: Cocktails look amazing on paper but disappoint. My wife got an apricot gin and tonic that just tasted like syrup, for $18. Their beer and wine selections are great though (any sommelier would be happy) but this should be considered base expectations for this price range of restaurant. All drinks about $5 overpriced. Service, 5-star wait staff, 3-star bar: Servers, runners, and hosts are friendly, knowledgeable, fast, and properly time courses. Drinks were fairly slow to come out compared to the food, even with wine arriving after we had mostly finished our entree. Atmosphere, 4-star: Small space that is loud but in the way you want as it feels energized. They dim the lights for ambience later at night. Tables have nice warm light lamps. Could be elevated with a bit of soft background music to help manage the echo of the space. Surcharge note: Despite the eyewatering prices, they add a 5% "living wage" surcharge on the bill. While I 100% support the concept, other places that do this (or incorporate into prices) make that clear on the menu and advise you to adjust your tip accordingly. Nope, when the server gave me the reader to pay (with the awkward hover over the shoulder), I could at minimum select 20% and would've had to do pressured quick math to do 15% to account for the surcharge. Worse, the waiter openly stated, "I wonder who gets that money", apparently unaware that they (in part) should be benefitting. My suspicion is that this is a pull-at-the-heartstrings extra charge to boost profits. read more

We finally made it out to try White and Wood for dinner in downtown Greensboro. They are in the same spot as the old Fincastles. We were able to snag a 745 PM credit card required reservation on Open Table. ($50 no show fee) They were still pretty busy when we arrived so there were no menus available when we were seated. It wasn't a big deal because my husband had already scoped out the menu before we got there and I pulled up a menu on my phone. Our server, Leonardo was friendly and attentive. My water glass was never empty. He made sure to ask if we had dined with them before and explained each dish as it arrived. The buratta with sourdough toast points was the hit of the evening. It is served on a bed of caramelized red onions and a a few sprigs of arugula in a crispy chili oil that had a nice heat. It warmed your face and made your nose run just a little bit. There were only 4 toast points so you were left with quite a bit of the onions and burratta. It could stand to come with 2 more little points so you aren't left eating a mouthful of tasty onions by themselves. My husband chose the meatballs made with ribeye, wild boar, foie gras, potato aligot, brassica, king trumpet , jus. The 4 meatball $40 presentation was lovely. They were good but the best thing on the plate was the potato aligot so a bit pricey but a decent flavor. I almost went with the scallops but decided on the Ultimate Bacon Cheeseburger instead. It is an 8 oz filet mignon burger with melted gruyere, aioli, and a drunken BBQ sauce, served on a semi brioche bun. It is served with perfectly cripy tater tots sprinked with grated parmesan and slivered green onions. The burger was good, a little greasy on the bottom but what good burger isn't? Crispy tots are always a winner for me. The burger was fairly large and there were plenty of tots to share a few with my hubby. Overall, 1 non alcoholic beer, 1 appetizer, and 2 mains will set you back almost $90. The service was fantastic, the restaurant is pretty, and the food is tasty. A friend who is new to town from San Diego was looking for suggestions for good restaurants. I recommended White and Wood among several others downtown. We had a 5:30 reservation which was awesome! We got in on happy hour prices for several items. Our waiter Nick was very helpful! He explained the menu, made suggestions and let us know everything on the menu is amazing. I had eaten here before and agreed! Unfortunately, while the dinner was good, it wasn't great this time. The mocktails were the highlight of the meal for sure. We had the chef's 5 charcuterie for $30. This means the chef chooses cheeses and meats. The Brie and truffles were spectacular. Everything else was just okay. We left a lot on the board. We also got the watermelon feta salad and Burrata, a favorite of mine. Later, we discussed how it was our fault for ordering watermelon out of season. It was a great concept with basil, loads of feta, and other toppings. The watermelon wasn't very sweet and the peaches were tart, assuming they were out of season too. This is a new menu, so not sure where these were sourced. The Burrata was something I was so excited to order. I get it in London when traveling for work and it's sooo good. Typically it is served with savory accompaniments like pesto, basil, tomatoes, etc. this one was very different. It had the tart peaches, some yellow mushrooms, very sweet plums, and spices similar to everything but bagel seasoning with with fennel and sesame oil. Sadly I only had a bite of mine, as did my friend, and we left most of it. I'm disappointed in the current menu and that a restaurant I recommend so highly let me down. If you're looking for a dining experience that includes great service, fresh well presented dishes with unique flavor profiles then you must visit White and Wood. We went for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. The wait staff is terrific. Very attentive, and our dinner was paced beautifully. We never felt rushed, and we never were waiting on anything to be served. We tried there three course meal option, and that is something I would recommend because you can enjoy a salad, an entrée, and a dessert for a fixed price. (Although I did upgrade to the filet) For starters my wife enjoyed a beet salad which was incredibly fresh and doused with a ginger citrus vinaigrette. I went for the brussels sprouts as my first course and they are served cold, which is not the norm, but the flavors were there and the texture was pleasant. For entrées, I had the filet which was perfectly done and just the right size. Not too much. My wife had the shrimp in Moroccan BBQ sauce. Terrific! We rounded out with desserts. I had the Pot de Crème which more than filled my need for chocolate! While my wife had the Mille Feuille a flavorful mix of white chocolate, strawberries, almond and phyllo along with basil and sherry. This meal was tasty and satisfying from top to bottom One tip about a cocktail. My wife tried the tipsy pig, which has a nice hint of spice in it, and she loved it. Put White and Wood on your radar. Absolute terrible experience here. The food was overcooked and the server (who I think is actually the bartender) was having the worst night of his life to the point he was aggressive with the table. He did absolutely too much and then never returned to close us out. Shameful and disturbing. We did let management know but I bet he went about his night making every other table miserable. Literally slamming things around and just uneasy in general. It was furniture market, so we tried our best to give everyone grace, but after a while it was enough. Service is one thing but the food was also subpar. Think twice before going to this establishment on any night where they might be a little busier than the normal theater crowd and small dinners. This place was ok, honestly I was disappointed that we selected it as one of the places to visit during only two days in town because it was extremely overpriced. I'm not saying it was expensive food, but that the food we had wasn't worth the price. We first sat down and the menu had appetizers and raw bar prices, but then the rest of the menu was a prix fix menu for $85 and many of the entrees had uncharges of $10-$15. When we asked they said we could order a la carte. Other guests around us were equally confused as they sat down as no one would explain unless they asked. The menu was special for Highpoint Market so I'm not sure if they raise prices for that but we paid $45 for a pork belly that was not good at all, I didn't even eat 1/4 of it. it was served with plain spaghetti which I'm not sure it even had salt. There was a sauce way at the bottom but it wasn't visible until I ate quite a few bites. My husband had scallops but the risotto was undercooked and hard. Definitely not worth $45. We came from Miami were every dish is $50, so it's not about the price but about what you get for it. I also did the math and the set menu was a salad, entree and dessert. I'm not sure how that cost $85 but that's what it said there. The service was good and we did tip obviously but I would not recommend it for its food. read more

I was visiting downtown Greensboro for the weekend, and in search of a delicious dinner on a Friday evening after checking into the hotel. White & Wood came up as one of the top 5 rated restaurants. I was seated right away and chose to sit at the chef's table/bar. The restaurant is beautiful inside and has plenty of seating. The bartender, Leo started me out with water and asked my drink order. I asked him to make me something refreshing with Gin as the base. He made me an amazing cocktail which excited me. So for a starter, I had a half dozen raw oysters. I loved that they weren't your normal raw oysters with horseradish and hot sauce on the side. No, these came decorated with toppings that made them unique and delicious. I then asked Leo for his suggestions for my entree. He told me they had a special similar to the Filet Mignon entree, but with Venison. He had me at Venison!! I watched Chef Dale prepare it and I became even more excited as he so perfectly prepared my plate. Every single bit was absolutely delicious. The flavor profile was unbelievably perfect. I didn't want my meal to end. Just when I thought the night couldn't get any better, I was gifted an amazing glass of red wine. Immediately I wanted chocolate. Lucky for me, they have a Black Forest cake on their dessert menu...it was perfect!! If I lived in Greensboro or even less than an hour away, I'd dine at Wine & Wood at least twice a week!! My wife and I went here not knowing what to expect, but knowing that their menu looked pretty good. We found them on the American Express site since they participate in the Amex program where you get points if you eat at a participating place. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a smile and treated like royalty. We never had a need go unmet. Everyone came by to see how we were doing and if we needed anything. The service was impeccable. We started off with the Bluefin Ahi Tartare with fried green tomatoes, cucumber, and lemongrass sesame vinaigrette. Not only was the tuna amazing (the plate was so clean it didn't need washing), the tomatoes were crazy good. I've never even been a fan of fried green tomatoes but I ate every last bite of them except for the two my wife had. For my meal, I ordered the halibut (just for the halibut, haha! OK, terrible pun, sorry ). It was served with lumps of crab, English peas, haricot vert, fava beans, asparagus, sugar snap peas, and Meyer lemon. Absolutely scump-diddly-umptious! My wife had the scallops and she let me have part of one. They were perfectly cooked and like butter. Honestly the best scallops either of us have ever had (and we've had some high-end scallops). For drinks, my wife first had Prety Pink Parts, then a Japanais. They are both gin drinks. I had a Hemingway Daiquiri (not at all like a traditional daiquiri, much better). Amazing food, amazing service and amazing ambiance. We had several dishes the oysters bone marrow and brussel sprout salad were all great. I had the short ribs and it's was beyond delicious I would go back today if I stayed in the area just for the short ribs. We were out to celebrate my birthday. We were hitting up all of our old regulars for a night out and they were all booked WELL into the late evening. It was a Friday after all. The hubs came across White and Wood. We made a reservation for 5:30pm as we had to drive about 30 minutes to get there from home. We are SO GLAD that we did. Not only was the food great, EVERYTHING was WONDERFUL. It is a small LGBTQIA+ owned establishment located on Elm Street in Greensboro just down from the Civil rights Museum. I would highly recommend reservations unless you dot mind sitting at the bar or outdoors on the noisy street. The interior was painted a fresh white with wood accents (hence the name). There is a row of tables along the wall and a smattering of some when you first walk in. We were quickly seated and noticed that the kitchen was on the other side of the bar. This place must have been a small diner or something at some point (assumption) There was no music playing just the chattering of patrons and the typical noises of food prep and drinks being mixed. Honestly we didnt mind not hearing music. We met our water and were given two choices for water - sparkling or tap. We had menus waiting at our table and we began to second guess our choices that we had made looking at the menu online! LOL. We did decide to order a charcuterie board as well as cocktails. When the board arrived, we were told what each item was and asked if we had any additional questions. Our drinks were brought to us as well shortly before the board arrived. While I wasnt a fan of my drink, it was a good drink. It was no fault of the bartender but of the one who ordered it! The board contained a variety of meats and cheeses as well as chocolate sausage. Once that service was complete, our silverware was removed and a fresh set was placed in front of us for our salads. The hubs had the Avocado and Wedge salad which he said at the end of the meal was his favorite course. I had the Cucumber and Melon salad. Let. me tell you I have NEVER had a salad that made me do a happy clap after eating it. I KNEW we were in for a good meal. New silverware hit the table as well as another round of drinks. Hubs had a martini and I had the drink he had at first! Next came the main course. Scallops for the hubs and Salmon for me. ANOTHER delicious note. The eatery was busy that evening for the dessert course was a bit delayed but we were kept up to date by our waiter. The restaurant knew it was my bday so when my pot de creme arrived it came with a candle and a happy bday chocolate. NO obnoxious singing or big scene. I LOVED IT. The hubs had what basically was a flan with figs. We both left full and very happy with our meal. I have NEVER had a meal that made me clap....This was the BEST MEAL I have EVER had in my 56 years on this earth. COST - will be VERY honest here. With the Charcuterie board, 4 cocktails, 2 3 course meals ($69 each) our bill did hit just below $300 and was over that when the tip was added. I don't think this is a place one could hit up weekly but DAMN it is WELL WORTH maybe a monthly visit! :) We will be back and we will tell EVERYONE about this place EVERY chance we get! read more

First I forgot to take pictures of my food and that makes it already hard to write this review. I had a reservation for 7:45 got there at around 7:55 and were promptly seated. Hostess was really kind. Our server came, asked us couple of questions and explained the menu. We ordered for the table the Brussels sprouts and the strawberry burrata. The brussel sprouts were petals, I liked them but didn't necessarily loved them. The strawberry burratas was not the best. The tomato slices were huge and something in it didn't feel completely refreshing, the burrata cheese was thin layered, I expected more. I ordered the scallops, I felt slightly disappointed, the size of the scallops were minimal and even though that's the main character of the dish it felt more like a cast member.. the sunflower seads risotto was very interesting. The salmon was great, looked cooked to perfection I didn't tasted it. Service was good, server came to check enough times on the table and I believe their manager did too and that shows outstanding service, and even though I felt slightly rushed to order dessert, the experience was still memorable.
