This wine bar is in a fairy tale type house w a high pitched roofline, oval shaped door and wooden board shutter. It looks out of place resting on the edge of a busy street. So parking is very limited but worth the trouble to stop in for a nice variety of wines in a busy, cozy, unique tavern. They have friendly staff that serve at and around the bar and tables in a effortless manner that amazes me when the place is hopping. I did not have to wait long to place my request or receive same. I inquired about the wine tasting for $5.00 and was told you would receive 2 tastings of white wine. Perhaps they do reds on a different night but I didn't ask. There is a written wine list of reds and whites to order full glasses of whites or reds which should suffice. I asked folks what they were drinking and there were many red wine-o's ha ha. The Bordeaux drinkers were happy with their choice and the Malbec drinkers were satisfied with their choice and commented the wine was soft. I chose a cold Chenin Blanc mostly cuz I haven't seen it on a menu in the Triad for quite some time. It was quite good great nose of sweetness but dry enough to be a good all round table wine. Its similar to Pinot Gregio but not dry or tart. I think when I'm back in GSO I will stop in to this unique wine bar again as it was a nice experience and everyone seemed very chill and friendly. read more

Large selection of wines but no pretense...just let Allison know what you're interested in and she"ll take great care of you. Very convenient to the Greensboro Coliseum, so you can drop by before or after the event. Been coming here for years. Kinda like Cheers but with wine (and some beers). Eclectic, friendly place for all types of friendly people. BTW, don't worry about parking. If the front lot is full, just drive behind the building off Spring Garden just north of whee it intersects with Chapman there's a big gravel lot with reserved parking for the Tasting Room and 913 Whiskey Bar (a sister property), which is also a great place to eat and drink. read more

I came in seeking a bottle of red wine between $20-$25 to take to Atlanta for a holiday gift, and I told the owner that I like earthy reds and she presented/recommended a $24 bottle - purchase complete. The ambience is nice - because of the season, Christmas music is playing and holiday decorations are displayed. The space is bigger than I anticipated - lots of table seating and a nice bar area with space for 8-10. I had a $2 off coupon for a glass of wine, and Allison suggested the Carmenérè, Terra Noble Gran Reserva, 2012, Chile, so I said sure and after the first sip, I was sold. I promised Allison the bartender (and owner?) that I would update my review (I stingily gave 4 stars and they deserve more!). I was their first Yelp review way back in the dark ages of 2012 . . . It was so long ago, Bianca's Eatery was still open across the street! But I finally made it back in here for a 2nd visit and had such a nice time. My drinking companion and I learned all about the wine club and they do fun wine tastings on occasion. You can order food from next door at 913 Whiskey if you need a nibble while you sip. So many great spots opening up in this area now - 913 Whiskey, Freeman's Pub across the street, Blind Tiger for live music and cheap beers a few steps away and tons of funky, fun little shops scattered nearby. This has become a regular stop for us and we probably visit once per week on average. PROS: -The Staff: Joey and Allison are fantastic -Wine Club: two levels with the top level being $29/month but so worth it -Events: -Wednesday wine tastings (free to members, $6 otherwise) -$2 of wine by the glass on Tuesdays -Music on the weekends -Events at Medaloni and Westbend Vineyards -Location: near the Coliseum, Blind Tiger and UNCG -Patio (when its not NC Hellacious Hot outside) CONS: -It can get busy (I guess that is a good problem to have!) The Tasting Room isn't one of those mega-wine places. However, the selection is good with a broad range of prices. Good quality beer is also available. Joey and Allison go out their way to get to know you and make you welcome. Parking in the area can get tight but there is plenty of room in the lot behind the building. The location is great, but definitely a place for the older and sophisticated. The atmosphere and music was very tasteful, although I was less than content with the way I was treated. I decided to pay the tasting room a visit with a friend in response to a recent facebook post from their official facebook page that read "$2 off all wine by the glass tonight! And a special $3 beer bucket!" I was excited to try this so-called $3 beer bucket but when I arrived and requested it, I told there was no such thing even after I referenced the facebook post. Not wanting to cause any tension, my friend and I didn't argue any further and simply selected a single beer. After being asked for our ID's, we were subsequently asked "did you want to take these to go?" (Wow, really? Not exactly the most welcoming question for a patron... This implied several negative connotations in my opinion. Why would I show up with a friend, just for a single beer to-go?) Needless to say, I exclaimed we did not want the beers to-go and would like to stay. The rest of my visit (roughly 45min) consisted of smug looks and an tension-ridden ambiance. To sum up my experience: I personally felt extremely unwanted and scrutinized, perhaps for my age (23) or ethnicity (African American). But I sincerely enjoyed the beer, venue, and music (hence the reason for the two star rating instead of one). My advice: Don't advertise dirt cheap alcoholic beverages when you are located on the busiest college street in Greensboro (Spring Garden St.) and not expect to have a few college aged patrons looking to cash-in on the offer. And when they do show up, don't treat them as unwanted guests. Treat them with the same respect as a patron with bottomless pockets. I will not return to this establishment and will urge my college-aged friends to go elsewhere. read more

Can we just pick this place up and move it to walking distance of my house in Charlotte along with the Whiskey Bar next door? In town for a swim meet means killing time. A couple of the other parents and I met over here while the kids were swimming for a glass of wine. It was a Friday which meant it was Fancy Friday where they take an expensive bottle and sell it by the glass. In this case a Caymus Cabernet at $25 a glass. I splurged. I loved it and it was a nice treat though I went backwards for future glasses in price and quality as we sat around the cozy bar and talked. Allison made us feel right at home and we stayed for quite a while. They have a couple of food options but the best one is to call the Whiskey Bar next door and they'll walk your food over to you. Allison has a menu and the phone number. Service was great as was the food. The chicken and waffles were top notch as was the crab cake and a great value. My husband and I stopped by while attending an event at the Greensboro Aquatic Center and couldn't be happier that we did! Great wine, great atmosphere and outstanding service. I tried Tasting Room because recently I've been interested in learning more about wine and heard they offered tastings and well, it's in their name. I was disappointed however because Tasting Room only offers four wines (Total Wine offers six during their tastings for comparison and they do it for free). The staff did not bother to tell us anything about the wines despite me saying multiple times that I was doing the tasting to learn about wine. It was even a hassle just to get the waitress to repeat the wines' names just so I could write them down so I just stopped trying. For a place called "tasting room" I would think they would put more effort into their tastings. Also,- and this has no bearing on the stars I gave or the review but I thought it should be mentioned- when my friend and I first entered the staff appeared confused and treated us like we had come in there by mistake/shouldn't be there. I suspect that this is because my friend isn't white and that happens to him pretty often with small businesses around the Chapman/Elam area of Greensboro. read more

Great wine selection! Allison, managing partner, is very knowledgeable about wine and great fun to talk to. Has wine specials on Friday night and live music on Friday as well. You can pick any bottle from the shelf and Allison will open and pour for the price on the bottle (no corkage fee) plus tax. Prices are very reasonable. A great find.
