The bartender was welcoming, kind and knowledgeable without being pushy or pretentious. The space doesn't seem that it's been maintained (or updated) very well and could use some attention. Wine I tried was a very nice Riesling and we enjoyed our time here during our tour of Greensboro wine bars.

Popped in around 8:30pm on a Saturday, a half hour before closing and had an amazing experience. Very knowledgeable staff, expansive wine selection for in-house consumption and purchase, and yummy food options. Had a glass of Chenin Blanc from Vouvray, sampled a Beaujolais Cru and delicious dark chocolate truffles that truly melted in my mouth. Definitely planning to become a regular at this place.

    A nice, cozy bar space

Rioja is a hole in the wall tucked away in a small shopping center on Battleground just North of downtown, but it is not to be overlooked. Inside, a very intimate and welcoming space awaits. It's a small spot, but has plenty of tables for seating as well as a small bar. Shelves filled with wine adorn the walls along with artwork from local artists, creating a very comforting and relaxing atmosphere. Rioja has a huge selection to choose from - over forty wines by the glass and many more available to purchase. They also have a small beer selection as well as some small plates and snacks to enjoy. I'm no wine connoisseur, but I'm trying to learn so I opted for the red flight. The flights are generous pours of three wines served with a small cheese and nut sampler with quality cheeses. I did not notice that on the menu so I was very happy when that came out! The staff is very knowledgeable, explaining the notes to look out for with each wine in the flight, highlighting the differences between each one. Even as a novice, I felt that their direction helped me pick out certain notes that differed between each wine. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I felt that I learned a lot just in conversation with the staff at Rioja. Rioja also has weekly wine tastings and other events. One that was brought up was a blind tasting trivia, where questions are asked about food, wine and travel, eventually leading to a final round of naming the exact wine that is in your glass. It sounds like an absolute blast. Rioja is an absolute must visit. I will definitely be back for a tasting soon!

Thursday night apps and wine tasting was a success!

Visiting Rioja was like visiting Italy in my dreams. What a wonderful experience on this lovely wine tasting night. Rioja has wine tastings every Thursday 6-8pm. They also offer half off food everyday 4-6pm. What a delight! We had the spinach and artichoke dip, creamy brie and cheese and fruit plate. All fresh and delicious. Perfect snacking with a glass of Rose', which was perfectly sweet and crisp. The wine tasting was Old World wines from Italy. The specialist, Lauren, was very knowledgeable and kind. She has a great sense of humor and knew her stuff. She gave a great experience as we were trying these new wines. I had a Riesling while I was there as well which was on the sweeter side as recommended by the wonderful server we had, Dawn. She was so kind and lovely. I will most definitely become a regular here and be back for more wine tastings and half off food. Love it!

Lewis and Elm delivers a 5 star experience on so many levels. Many people I've spoken with think it's just a wine bar. Oh no, it goes well beyond your typical wine bar. First off, they have a full bar with a huge specialty cocktail list, craft beers, non alcoholic options and even THC drinks. We had amazing wine off of their impressive list, plus a few cocktails that were mixed extremely well. The food: amazing to say the least. Charcuteries, meats, cheeses, apps, finger foods, and a few uniques you have to get (one in particular). We enjoyed a beautifully plated charcuterie (see pic), the caprese bruschetta, a goat cheese pesto bruschetta, and that one in particular: the medjool dates. Everything was delicious, but these dates were on another level. The dates were surrounded by a bed of creamy Brie cheese melted perfectly, topped with crispy prosciutto and sprinkled with a balsamic reduction. All of this is easily mopped up with the fresh focaccia the dish comes with. This dish rocked! It was perfect on its own, but paired amazingly well with both the chilled white wine and the cocktails we were enjoying. The vibe is amazing as well. Upscale but super comfy interior. Come casual or dressed to impress, it all works here. Live music on the weekends add to the atmosphere and the whole experience. Come for the whole evening, or pre-dinner/pre-show drinks and bites, or even for a night cap after a dinner or show. Come for a quick pit stop, or stay for the live music. It's an all around excellent experience with great drinks, food, service and vibe.

After a previous subpar experience, Cooper's Hawk corporate reached out and provided us with gift cards to encourage us to return. We appreciated the gesture and came back genuinely hoping our first experience had simply been an off night. Unfortunately, this visit was actually worse. The biggest problem was the service. We experienced unreasonably long waits throughout the evening, both for drinks and between courses. These weren't occasional delays during an otherwise well-paced dinner--the poor pacing affected the entire meal and made what should have been an enjoyable evening unnecessarily frustrating. We were also uncomfortable with some mildly inappropriate and unprofessional conduct from our server. I don't feel the need to publicly go into detail, but combined with the extremely slow service, it contributed to an experience that fell well below what we would expect from a restaurant at this price point. What makes this particularly disappointing is that Cooper's Hawk corporate had already acknowledged our previous experience and made a genuine effort to get us back through the door. This was an opportunity for the restaurant to win us back, and instead we left feeling even more disappointed than we did the first time. I do appreciate corporate's attempt to make things right, but unfortunately, after giving Cooper's Hawk another chance and having an even worse experience, it's difficult to imagine returning again.

The menu reflects this with cocktails, wine and beer and the menu is extensive on the beverages! The food menu is terrific and has so much variety and some really nice plates small and large. It was a theater night when we went and we had a 7.30 show to goto and our server knew that. We got there at 5.30 so figured that gave us the 10 mins to walk to the theater to be on time. We started off with some drinks. My friend loved her cherry ale and I really enjoyed my G&T , the glass it came in was just so unusual. The G&T took awhile to finally make it to me but i loved it. We ordered the tuna tartare and that was delicious and served up with fried green tomatoes which was a different take on it. Nice and fresh and nicely presented. Our entrees were the salmon for my friend and I had the Bahn mi chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. Usually this sandwich is with pork so I wanted to try this. The service for our dinner took almost 45 mins we had finished the app awhile back and my grind had another drink and still we were waiting. It was closing in on 6.50 Pm and at this point we would be inhaling our food when it came and rushing out the door . It came at 7pm and the sandwich was good but they should mention on the menu that it has mayonnaise on it as I don't like that but there was quite a bit on the bun. Not typically in this type of sandwich so I wasn't expecting it. The chicken was a good and flavorful and lots of other veggie fillings and the fries were great. My friend really enjoyed her salmon and the risotto it came with. Just disappointed we had to eat it all so quickly and leave some so we could pay and leave. We had our eye on the lemon posset tart for dessert but we didn't have time . We just thought since the server knew we had theater tickets she would have been more on top of it. Yes they were busy as it was a show night but the place wasn't totally full. Seemed like no urgency when we asked how long the food would be as we had to leave soon. I'd maybe try this place again on a non show night, as I thought they had a great menu. I enjoyed the place just not the service as we barely made the show before the lights went down.
