Had a business lunch here today; it was everyone's first time. What an interesting restaurant! The decor is unique -- very shabby chic with dogs and birdcages and such everywhere. We were seated in a corner, out of the way, which was conducive to our gathering. The menu is not huge, but offers a vast enough variety to satisfy the tastes of most individuals. Our server, Jose, was attentive and very patient, and showed an appropriate sense of humor. Our water glasses stayed full and our empty plates were promptly cleared. And our plates were left empty, indeed, as everything was delicious! We each had the "award-winning" Kennett Square mushroom soup, which was positively delectable. For our main course we all tried something different: kale salad, endive salad, chicken sandwich, and tuna tartare. I had the blackened swordfish tacos, garnished with some greens on the side. YUM! Three tacos didn't look like much at first, but it was the perfect amount of food, considering I also ate the soup and one of the rustic bread rolls. Speaking of which, the butter is sweet -- and totally delicious. For dessert, one person had the seasonal pumpkin ice cream, another had the "flower pot," and I had the adorable little apple pie. I personally appreciate how the restaurant sources from local food providers, and everything tasted as fresh as they claimed. For this reason -- plus the high quality and the location -- I think they're able to justify the prices, though that might be off-putting for some. It's time for an update. This is one of my favorite restaurants on the Main Line. They serve seasonal food and change up their menu. What I love about White Dog however is that they have excellent food and some of the best consistent customer service in the industry that I see anywhere. Similar to how you come to expect seamless service at stores like LL Bean or Target, that's kind of how WD is. They will take care of it, whatever IT is, and you. I love that feeling. If there's anything that goes wrong, they won't weasel their way and try to nickel and dime you. They make it so that you want to come back again. And you do! I recently tried the mahi mahi which is a classic dish and absolutely loved it! Loved the fish with sweet, savory, mashed. Everything just fit well. Just attended a Baptism celebration there on Sunday on 4/21. It was a disgrace the way this restaurant treated us. They made us go outside in 53 degree weather on a patio that was not setup for a party of 12--they had no heaters setup or umbrellas to reduce the wind ( I had to force them to set a heater up and the staff did not know how to hook it- (so I got on my hand and knees to set it up-- using the wrench that the waitress had brought to the occasion. She thanked me and offered to buy me a drink but never followed-up) The service was terrible--I think because the waitresses did not want to go outside--it was too cold. I felt bad for the host as she was mis-lead by the restaurant as to the viability of the brunch setup. I cant believe that this restaurant felt no responsibility for the conditions that it caused its customers to endure. They did collect all the money due to them--it is a disgrace what this restaurant did to book some business. The decor in this space is INCREDIBLE. I was so impressed I actually wondered who their interior designer is. Everything from the paintings to coat hooks to paw print tiles to light fixtures are high class and tastefully done. The service was great. We had a toddler with us and requested to switch tables after 10 minutes because the toddler gravitated to the booth and they were very accommodating. Giving it four stars instead of 5 because the avocado BLT I had was overcooked - overcooked egg, really crumbly bread and tough bacon. The fries were delicious that were served with it. Also minor detail but I know my lettuce and it was served with romaine not bibb as was described on the menu. It was a good sandwich but not great. But for the decor and such it was worth it. First time here. Excellent experience, top to bottom. Beautiful decor, fantastic service, delicious food. Got the brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes for an appetizer. Amazing flavor combo! The White Dog Is a farm to table restaurant. It is located in a refurbished brick building right on Lancaster Avenue. Once inside, you really feel as though you are walking into a living room, albeit one decorated with lots of dogs. Traditionally, I visit here for lunch. I highly recommend the Kennett Square mushroom soup. The presentation for the soup is really nice. A bowl is placed in front of you with a scoop of crème fraîche, then the server will pour the hot soup into the dish. Really fantastic. In order to have the soup, try and go a bit lighter on the main course. I have always found that the beet and arugula salad with goat cheese is a perfect complement. Over several trips I have had most of the salads and entrées. I recommend the White Dog. read more

I love this place and always, always have the best meal! My grilled salmon melted in my mouth! My friend's tuna tartare looked raw, as it should have, and she loved it. I enjoy my desserts, so when we saw a salted caramel maple blondie with vanilla ice cream on the menu, we decided to split it. And it was like trying to split the atom. Or wood. You had to ratchet up all the strength you had to pierce the blondie just to break off a piece. I asked the waitress for a saw but she brought us a knife instead. I could have forgiven everything if the blondie had been at all good. But it had no discernable taste. Maybe it was really, really stale. We have been coming to WD for many years now and this was easily the most mediocre experience to date. I rarely post, but am doing so more to help focus on some mis-fires from the summer menu b/c WD is a staple of the area. We went a couple weeks ago and sat outside... venue and service were all good. I had the "Chicken and Fries" and it was really poor... basically a boiled piece of chicken over literally three summer vegetable fries; the dish absolutely needs to be fixed. My wife had the Verlasso Salmon (which she has had at least a dozen times) and it was overdone, no real taste and the eggplant carponata was really salty. All five of our kids had fries with their various meals (which are usually a highlight) and all five orders were completely overdone. Plus my wife's greek salad was average at best. As an aside, the menu pricing seems a bit ridiculous in parts... steak frites for $56; scallops for $48; pork chop for $49... Autograph does something similar and not sure either place is offering the quality to match those very high prices. read more

We picked this restaurant for our anniversary as we've heard great things. I made a reservation on open and table and selected "anniversary" under the special occasion details on open table. When we arrived we were immediately greeted with "happy anniversary!" at the hostess desk, seated at the most adorable table for two and there waiting for us was an anniversary card for a gift. A classy ambience they have going for sure! We came for an early dinner and felt comfortable as far as covid goes, even indoors. I can't speak to their cocktails because they were operating under governor's order to shut down alcohol services before 5pm on thanksgiving eve! We laughed about it with the server as she offered us some sprite and lemonade. We ordered a whole slew of appetizers -- pesto bread, beet and arugula salad, truffle fries, mushroom soup and the short rib hash. While I generally maintain a no salad ordering policy at restaurants (why pay for meh healthy stuff?), I had to bend the rules for the beet salad because it is phenomenal. My favorite dish of the night even. The goat cheese is divine and the croutons are to die for -- it just all came together so well. Pesto bread was fine, just not my personal favorite bread variety. If I'm going to pay extra for it, I want something warm and fluffy -- didn't get that here. Mushroom soup was nice and included a nice pour presentation. Truffle fries are BOMB, a white dog staple in my experiences. I didn't actually order an entree, but someone in my family had the falafel sandwich, which was pretty standard but yummy, and another had the Reuben, which they seemed to enjoy, but they did complain about the salad dressing. Love this restaurant and location. Out of the three white dogs, this one is the best! Best service and best food. My favorite is always the burger and truffle fries. The truffle fries are are amazing! I love the interior decoration. The mock tails are great if you aren't drinking alcohol. The desserts are really good too. WOW this was a perfect lunch spot to catch up with a friend! First off, our waitress was more than helpful and timely - incredibly friendly too! This place is definitely a tad fancier than your average lunch outing in regards to both dress and price, fyi. However we knew this coming in so no complaints. With this, the food and drinks match the price completely. I got the shrimp tacos and my friend got the vegetarian sandwich (complementing the truffle cheese whiz!). We both also got dolby mules and split the parmesan truffle fries (HIGHLY recommend). The meals were more than filling so we left with to go boxes. We had heard good things about this restaurant before, and a friend of mine had been to another location for a first date, so it was on our minds already. When we finally made a trip in, though, we were very pleasantly surprised! The food is amazing, the staff is very friendly, and the restaurant itself is beautiful and cute. For our starter, we ordered the antipasti, which is basically a charcuterie board with some cheeses. Everything on that board was delicious, and the jams made them all that much better. Along with that, they served us bread and butter to start. The bread was nice and toasty on the outside and perfectly fluffy on the inside, and the butter was something special - unsalted butter seasoned with some sea salt and honey. I don't usually put much butter on bread, but I did here! We also ordered the Kennett Square Mushroom Soup to share, and it was very good - deep mushroom flavor, and perfectly creamy! We'd heard it was good, and it did not disappoint! My wife got their chicken dish for her main course, which was white meat cooked perfectly with sauce, and dark meat in spring rolls. The spring rolls weren't the best, but the white meat was delicious. Also, it came with some really good veggies, the best of which had to be the roasted brussel sprouts! My main dish was the Icelandic cod, and I was blown away by how much I ended up enjoying every part of that dish! The cod and mussels were done well, and the mussel broth made everything taste amazing. There were radishes, turnips, brussel sprouts, and barley - everything was amazing with that broth! My wife's spring rolls were a tad bland, so we ended up dipping them into the broth. Overall a great experience, not least of all being the staff. Joined friends today at this location for time to catch-up and early birthday celebration. From the moment our server greeted us to the very end she seemed bothered to have gotten stuck with our table. Was it the kiddos? The fact we didn't order drinks? Who knows, but wasn't the typical welcoming atmosphere I am used to at any WD locations. When we ordered, after ordering for one of the children she said "do you want the kids serving?" We asked if there was a kids menu and she said "it's in my head" but never shared what the rest of it was. As we finished our meal, another server was stepping in and helping out. I thought maybe he was trying to help out the experience. Nope! He told us as we were leaving they really needed to clear the table as someone was waiting for it. But as we walked to the bathroom there were 5-6 person tables open in the other rooms. Why did the one we were eating in need to be used? Fantastic brunch today! The restaurant is an absolute gem in the middle of the main line. There's a consistent theme throughout the restaurant of dog decor from the artwork on the walls to the pillows on the chairs and it's all perfectly harmonized. Today I tried the mushroom soup and the smoked salmon benedict and they were both delicious; however, the soup really stood out. With a hint of truffle and creme the soup was very aromatic. My wife and I enjoyed a great meal and conversation with friends. Make sure you save room for dessert - the best around! It certainly is a unique setting with all the dog pictures around, a must see if you are a dog lover. I like how all of their food and ingredients are selected based on the local season. I enjoyed a ribeye, which was amazing but just as good as the steak were the carrots and sweet potato with it - delicious. My wife got a burger which was huge. And then the best part was the dessert, I had a decadent chocolate fudge brownie that tasted like I was in the fudge maker's kitchen. My wife and I enjoyed a truly wonderful lunch today at the White Dog Cafe. Rarely are we fortunate to find a restaurant that has delicious food, great service, and such a lovely atmosphere. It is no secret, it was pleasantly busy and you definitely need a reservation. I would strongly recommend requesting a table in the Library Room (see pic of ceiling). If it wasn't for the fact that they needed to turn over the table, I don't like being that patron that dawdles when others are waiting to be seated, I could have easily stayed and sipped on a snifter of cognac. Unfortunately, the parking is minimal, not surprising for Wayne; and I would like to see at least one red meat entree and a fish entree on the lunch menu for those of us that eat our main meal earlier in the afternoon. A local farm-to-table establishment with multiple locations in the area, White Dog Cafe provides some great offerings, and they do it well at that. The presentation, from the food to the interior, are all very impressive, and the taste is there too. Though I didn't realize that their Double Cheddar burger was voted best burger on the Main Line last year until after I ordered, this achievement came hardly as a surprise to me. Their sandwiches and burgers all pack the perfect punch--not too much mayo or cheese, the meat itself doesn't dominate the taste profile, and the vegetables complement everything well. For my recommendations, you can't go wrong with the Mushroom Soup, and a personal favorite is the Caramelized Onion hummus dip for the table. I enjoyed the Avocado BLT, not too heavy but still delicious, and look forward to returning to try the Double Cheddar burger. The comfortable design of the restaurant, rustic ambiance as you walk in, and spacious table set-up are a relief when you walk in. The layout is hardly boring and uniform, with a mixture of couches and sofas as your seating areas, and not too compact either. The service stays true to the standards set by everything in this restaurant; the quick, attentive waiters and waitresses keep everything moving along in a prompt and orderly fashion, so no gripes from me on that end.
