Never felt so unwelcome at a restaurant. My partner and I attempted to have dinner there the other night for my birthday... a family walked in at the same time as my partner and, and they were greeted and told someone will be right with them. My partner and I stood there for ten minutes without anyone acknowledging us. We were also able to see into the kitchen, which looked extremely dirty and unhygienic. Some good things the Korean Chicken was good and I got the XL, looking at other plates could if gone with the regular, and still would have been plenty. I also loved the mac salad. My husband and dad said the burgers were good as well. Grilled cheese..two pieces of toast with an unmelted cheese slice in between for $11, did come with fries. If your gonna do simple no effort keiki food then the prices need to be lower. Shout out to our server who was extremely kind and the only one working the front of house, serving and bussing. So finally got to try this place for lunch. Walked and it is a bright and airy place very clean. Service was ok nothing good or bad about it maybe just a complaint more about that later. I decided on the pastele burger because 1 - I really like pasteles 2 - it sounded interesting always into trying new things and 3 - the burger got great reviews. Well it wasn't nothing special didn't taste like a pastele and needed some kind of condiment (not mustard or ketchup) maybe some kind of aioli???? The burger was topped with lots of lettuce, tomatoes, onions and plantain chips (which didn't have much flavor but added a nice crunch factor. Black olives on the side (I thought they would be in the burger all this is a plus for the burger. Also on the side were some fantastic cucumber dill pickles I could have ate a plate of these! I opted for the salad instead of fries. Wow the salad was large and looks delicious and nice and fresh. I didn't eat the salad but will be eating it tonight. They gave you the dressing on the side and it wasn't nearly enough for the salad. So the service complaint I had was I asked the waitress for extra dressing and I would gladly pay for it. She said no need to pay. Well after kindly reminding/asking about the dressing (3 times) I never got it. I could understand if the place was busy but there were only 3/4 other tables with customers. I wouldn't make the trip to go there from where I live but I shop at KTA regularly and if I'm hungry after shopping I might give them another try. Maybe just a salad next time. read more

Me and my cousins loved dining here! The staff are very friendly and the ambiance is very welcoming In regards of the food, the portions are bigger than expected and each dish is very flavorful. My favorite item here would be the lychee moscato, i have not came across any other place with this drink definitely recommend! read more

We waited 45 minutes trying to get someone's attention so we could order. We tried calling someone over so we could order they looked at us and kept walking. They took the orders for the locals that arrived after us. BTW, we are local but Haoles. 5th generation to be exact. This was the old Pizza Hut by KTA. Glad they're making use of this kitchen. My guest enjoyed their food. Mine was fish and it was old. Terribly large flies hanging around each booth window on the side we were sitting on. Maybe it was because the fish was old. Lost my appetite because of it. Although their food has been appetizing, their horrendous service and poor hospitality extinguishes any chance that I will be eating here again. A recent visit had us waiting 15 minutes for them to take our order, nor were we given water for our table. So we left. We decided to give them another chance and were treated with the same, awful service - no water and no one came to take our order. After 15 minutes had past, I went up to notify them of their lack of service, which then I received a reply that clearly demonstrated their lack of organization and promptness. I would've appreciated a reply that was eager to alleviate my frustration, but the response I got was nothing short of unsympathetic! read more

I immediately felt comfortable as we were welcomed by one of the owners. Service was great with a smile and a laugh. The food was fantastic with healthy options available. I was impressed that their iced tea was grown locally here in Hawaii. I had the Portagee Burger, which was an inspired burger seasoned like Portuguese sausage. Food was alright but waitress could use some classes in customer service. Our meals took over 40 minutes to be served, kitchen was only working on takeout orders and we were one of two tables in the restaurant (the other table already had their meal). I don't recommend dining in but takeout seems to be the best option as you get your order quick. Also no one seemed to appreciate our business because we didn't even get a "thank you" or any acknowledgment while we left. Personally I wouldn't return to this establishment again as my first experience there was a disappointment. It's not that difficult to say "thank you" to people who give you money for a service. I enjoyed the best boneless Korean chicken at White Guava! The purple sweet potato salad is delicious!! I tasted my friend's coconut vegan curry, also very good. House dressings are excellent. Great little place to stop and get a solid lunch. The adobo chicken was awesome and there was plenty of food. We went after the lunch rush and it was easy to get seated. This is my second time in today. They were kind enough to let me in, ten minutes before closing. I was starving!!!! The first time I went in, like other reviewers, I had a long wait to be seated, waited on and fed. The food was great, but sometimes, I just don't have that much time to spare for lunch. Today, however, everything was wonderful. I was taken care of extremely well, and the corned beef sandwich was heavenly! Sweet potato salad was divine! Gotta be honest - there was so much corned beef in my sandwich, I brought some of it home. Breakfast tomorrow, baby! The thing that impressed me the most about that sandwich was there was not an ounce of fat on the meat. To me, a mouthful of fat is not a pleasant experience. The meat was generously sliced, tender and tasty. Soft, sweet bun, white onion, not yellow. TWO large slices of tomatoes, lettuce and they did not skimp on the cheese. If you haven't been back in, give them another try. We SO need good restaurants in our town! Hopefully, these folks will be around for a long time! Mahalo! read more

Former Pizza Hut restaurant that has been re-done (can't tell from the exterior), with seating nicely spaced apart for Covid19. Online menu doesn't show specials, nor some other items. For example, they have a delicious purple sweet potato salad. I had it together with one of the day's specials, lilikoi chicken. The chicken pieces looked rather hard, but cutting into it, it was so moist, tender and flavorful. Yum. According to the waitress, burgers are made fresh at the restaurant, including grinding their own meat! Wow. I think their french fries are also fresh. Cut thick, so if you like thin crispy fries, this is not for you...but it is a favorite for me. Not a large menu, but interesting finds, like a pork burger with guava jelly! Long wait otherwise a higher rating. They make everything fresh and maybe that's why. Service okay but could've been better. No one came to check if everything was okay & anything else needed. Food was good. I'd suggest the Chicken Katsu, & their special lemon meringue pie was the best ever (though on the sweet side). Cheeseburger & fries was 'ono too. Ordered a side salad that never came. This cozy indoor dining restaurant is in an old Pizza Hut that is in the parking lot of the KTA in Hilo. Very comfortable inside dining, family run waitstaff lots of clean food and local choices on the menu. Vegan and gluten-free options available. Upon seating I was given an appetizer for free. I went for the Korean chicken. It came with two sides I chose french fries and the green salad. What I enjoyed most of the meal was the dressing and sauces. The salad was very nice and they make all their homemade dressings. I found it all in all quite a pleasant lunch. read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside and the inside hasn't changed much from when it was a Pizza Hut BUT this place is awesome. Service: the service was very good. They serve you some crackers with Lilikoi butter and water in a nice tumbler cup. The waiter was timely as well as the food. Food: the menu may not look like much but they do a wonderful job of mixing local flavors in a new and creative way. We ordered the Chicken Katsu with salad and purple sweet potato salad and Fried Chicken adobo with salad and fries. Let's start with the side salads, they were made from local greens, were on the bigger side and had dressing on the side. The fries are hand cut and double fried. They were not to grease and well seasoned. The purple sweet potato salad was a nice refreshing take on potato salad. It was not heavy, had some orange mixed it, and not to sweet. The chicken Katsu was the best I have every had. It was moist, perfectly crisp, and not greasy. My lunch mate couldn't stop talking about it all day after we left. Final the fried chicken adobo. Again not to greasy, the chicken was moist and it was not under or over sauced. The potions for the regular were large and we had plenty of left overs. We will be going again. This was my first experience at White Guava Cafe. Unlike comments I had heard about long waits, we were seated quickly and our food came not too long after our order was placed. I had ordered the teriyaki burger with a salad. The huge teriyaki burger had lettuce, tomato, and thinly sliced onions. It was a delicious burger. Amazing food - and with the extremely charming and courteous ladies working the front, i am very happy i visited. I had the fried adobo chicken with salad and white rice. Everything was very delicious from the perfectly cooked rice to the fresh greens with superb lilikoi dressing. The chicken was delectable and definitely reminded me of filipino adobo. I am hoping they will add standard adobo chicken and pork (and maybe some other Filipino foods) to their menu soon as i cannot find great adobo or chicken paria anywhere in Hilo.
