After researching many of the dining options in the Dahlonega area, we ultimately decided on White Oak Bistro. The property itself is absolutely beautiful, with rolling pastures, classic fencing, and horses grazing nearby. From the restaurant, you can enjoy distant, long-range mountain views, creating a splendid and picturesque setting. Upon arriving at the bistro, we were warmly welcomed and promptly seated by the windows with a lovely view. The dining room features a refined fine-dining atmosphere, with soft music gently playing in the background. For dinner, we chose the gouda fritters, roasted salmon, and colossal shrimp, followed by tiramisu for dessert. Everything was delicious--especially the fritters and the shrimp entrée. The bread was perfectly baked and fresh, and it paired wonderfully with the flavorful shrimp broth. We truly enjoyed the entire experience and highly recommend White Oak Bistro for anyone planning a relaxing mountain getaway.

I walked into this bright and colorful cafeteria style restaurant and noticed the beautifully colored pictures on the wall. The ambiance her is casual but it does set a little undertone of sophistication. The restaurant is immaculate. With everything in its rightful place, I saw high tops seating with tables and table and chair with cushion seating. Very comfortable! It served me well to sit at the high top seating as I find that more comfortable for me and it is very, very quiet here. The person making that salad greeted me as I approach. I guess he was waiting to see if I was going to use the kiosk as several others did while i waited for food to be prepared. I was the only one dining in, everyone else took there's to go and a few Uber Eats or Door dash showed up. I ordered The balsamic shrimp salad, it has lettuce mix, grilled shrimp, pickled radish, edamame, purple cabbage, seasoned corn, sesame seed, croutons, and balsamic vinegar dressing. I asked to add avocado and MJ us the seasoned corn. This salad was a perfect balance for me. Not too filling. Balsamic vinaigrette dressing is not one of my favorites so I sprinkled it on not too heavy. I also had the ITOEN unsweetened Bold Green Tea. It had a bold flavor, hence the name. I will be here until Saturday so I'll come back two more days. On my way out, I stopped by the laboratory to find it was near and tidy as well. As I left the restaurant, I heard a female worker thanking me for coming in. Awesome customer service today.

It comes with grilled vegetables and red pepper, and I left off the sesame seeds. I did add in a grilled broccoli base for $1, and really enjoyed being able to get so many fresh vegetables as part of my dinner. Next time I might try the cold rice noodles. The order was ready for pick-up right on time, and as always, the restaurant was clean with places to sit available, had we not gotten it to-go. (I will say that the chicken came with what was supposed to be a teriyaki sauce, but which tasted like soy sauce, so maybe there was a mix-up? But, since we've always had such stellar service before, we will of course, be back!)

We got a great table for our party and we ordered some drinks. My only complaint is I could tell our server as new at this because I felt quite forgotten at times as he would just disappear but otherwise it was a great experience! The cocktail menu had a bunch of great choices and I loved my drink! For an appetizer, we got a flat bread and some spinach and artichoke dip both of which were amazing! Super tasty and flavorful. For my main, I got the chicken caesar wrap with fries and this was a massive wrap! Super yummy and I loved that the salad was finely chopped. Overall, the food was super delicious and I wish we had gotten a chance to play some of the games in this place because the vibes were great! Great spot and addition to downtown Gainesville.

Overall when I'm tired of feeling sluggish and gross from eating on the go, I turn to Maepole! For the same price as fast food I can have fresh, quality nutrition!

A chaotic period, and when my brother and/or I were in town to help out with these exhausting and time-consuming tasks, finding quick, reasonably priced, somewhat healthy, and hopefully tasty food was challenging indeed. I unfortunately didn't discover Maepole until 2025, but it nicely ticked off those boxes. Maepole is basically a "fast casual," Southern-inflected "bowl" place, with a much heavier emphasis on the nutritious and fresh than is typical of traditional Southern cooking. You start with a base, just like at Chipotle or Cava--greens, sweet potatoes, or quinoa, etc.--and top with veggies or salads, and, if you prefer a protein, you can add chicken, pork, or tofu. Or you can just go full-on veggie plate. Top with a flavorful sauce; my favorites were the spicy avocado and lemon herb. My general impression of the food quality was that it wasn't quite at the five-star level some of the time--veggies weren't always cooked to perfection, for instance--but the general experience and value, as well as the bold flavors, argue for bumping this rating up to five stars. Plus, every time I think about Maepole, I sure wish my current city had an option like it.

They price the tip into the food and yet the price is still reasonable. More restaurants should be less of a coward and start doing this more. Tipping culture in US is wild. I digress. I like coming here with friends because then I get to try a few dishes. Pumpkin was delicious. Kale salad was creamy and had fresh tomatoes with avacado. The seared black cod was fresh. Salmon was tasy. Gnocci was my wife favorite. The only dish that was a little disappointing for me was the beef bourguignon. Maybe because we had some great flavors in Paris recently and I clearly remember that wine flavor. All of this is moot since the food may change once you get here. Would I come here again? Yes. This has quickly moved to my Top 40 ATL list. I love the small and seasonal menu.

People, people, people... if I can impress upon you one thing today please let it be this. BE CAREFUL WHERE YOUR PORK COMES FROM ! and who processes it ! You want the best pork purveyor your money can afford. Here's what is said about Duroc heritage pork: "Heritage Duroc pork chops are a premium, highly marbled meat known for exceptional juiciness, tenderness, and a rich, dark red color, often described as having a deeper, more savory flavor than conventional pork. Sourced from a 175-year-old American heritage breed, these chops are typically raised on family farms with strict, humane, and antibiotic-free standards." THIS is the kind of pork you want to eat. (avoid Smithfield at ALL COSTS - they were bought out by CHINA years ago !) Now back to our regularly scheduled review: The chop was AMAZING ! It was HUGE ! and BONE-IN ! Unfortunately, I can't have the cauliflower mash that it comes with. Nor the sage butter. BUT - Our Favorite Chef, Jack, is THE MAN ! There is a REASON they ask you your allergies (and sensitivities) when placing an order. He's really good about pleasing my palate AND keeping my sensitive intestines happy. I pretty much scarfed down the bed of black lentils the chop was perched on. This is the same black lentils that comes with the black cod (see my previous review). Addictingly delicious ! Megan enjoyed it a lot. I had some butternut squash soup and a steak pie. Both were mighty tasty. I had a good laugh when the owner said to be sure to use all the gravy.
