I checked out my Airbnb and needed coffee so I stumbled upon this cute cafe and got a latte (obviously) and biscuits and gravy because I was feeling a little southern main character... and honestly?? it slapped. the latte was smooth, not bitter, very comforting. biscuits and gravy were giving cozy, warm, sit down and stare out the window energy. the whole place is super homey and chill, like you could read a book here for 3 hours and no one would judge you. and the workers?? so sweet. like actually nice, not fake nice.

For a quick bite, this cafe is a simple go-to choice! My husband and I enjoyed our stop at the Picnic Cafe and Dessertery. For lunch, I had the egg salad sandwich with chips and pasta salad. My husband had the pimento cheese sandwich with chips. Both of our sandwiches were tasty and really hit the spot for the "picnic" taste that the restaurant has in its title. The pasta salad was creamy and was a delightful surprise taste. We both enjoyed warm drinks as it was a very cold day. I had the lavender latte. It was sweet and had a floral aroma. My husband sipped on hot cider and said that it was sweet and cinnamony. Overall, our quick stop was worth it! The service was quick and kind. The ambiance was relaxing and clean. The food was good too. Food- 4/5 (basic picnic food, but good for price) Service- 5/5 Ambiance- 5/5

The Picnic Cafe and Dessertery has a prime location in downtown Dahlonega. We visited during a pretty busy Saturday afternoon during the holidays. Even with the crowds, we were able to grab a table outside the restaurant after we placed our order. The kids chose to get egg sandwiches and blueberry and double chocolate muffins. My husband and I rarely pick the same thing but neither of us could resist the pimento cheese BLT sandwich. It was a great decision! The sandwich was loaded with lots of pimento cheese, crispy bacon and fresh tomatoes. The wheat bread was slightly toasted but still soft. Overall a delicious sandwich!

This is a small bakery and eatery with some tables inside and out. We came for breakfast. You seat yourself but someone comes out to the table to wait on you. Menu is small but you can get breakfast sandwiches, quiche and biscuits and gravy. I got a bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel. It was great. I really enjoyed it. It was just enough egg on there. I ate the whole thing! Hubby got his biscuits and gravy and asked for an extra biscuit with his. He ate the whole thing too! He said it was fantastic and he is picky about his biscuits and gravy. I was happy because he hasn't had good biscuits and gravy in a while. You can also get scones and muffins here. The scones looked amazing. They also had some desserts that looked and amazing. I was dying to try the carrot cake but I was stuffed and didn't want to leave a piece in the hot car. Oh well, next time.

We stopped for coffee and stayed for lunch! Four cute outdoor tables for a pet-friendly experience. Nice southern menu. We had tea, pimiento cheese BLT, fried green tomatoes and chicken salad sandwich. All were right on point. Hersheys ice cream offered also. Service was great.

This place was bumpin' bumpin'! Seat yourself and the staff was so friendly and fast - we placed our drink order and 3 other waitresses still asked us if someone had already helped us. The place is small but it has a generally fast turnover. The food was yummy and the desserts were the best - pro tip: order the cake on the counter in the glass jars versus the refrigerated section - those cakes were still good but the ones on the counter seemed super fresh. Re food, I had quiche and hubs had BBQ. I'd recommend. Re cake I had the Hummingbird and he had the peach ... that peach cake was the second best cake I ever had in my life.

Early on a Sunday morning, it was time for coffee. It wasn't at all busy so I had my choice of parking spaces in the public square. As I intended to sit with my coffee for a bit, I took it outside and sipped while writing a Yelp review or two before heading onwards. A good flow of customers coming and going. The charm of Picnic Cafe and Dessertery and the prime location on the square go a long way. The building has preserved some of its historic character, and the bright white-meets-moody blue paint scheme inside plays up the turn-of-the-century features smartly. I hoped for more from the breakfast, though. Scones are a regular for them, and we ordered one of each flavor offered: blueberry and cinnamon. The blueberry was heavy and looked like a totally different base recipe than the cinnamon, which was significantly fluffier and prettier. The flavor was blah, and after one bite of the blueberry, we abandoned it. The cinnamon had a light, buttery crumb and a generous distribution of cinnamon chips, but even it went uneaten--a marvel because my children are normally scones fanatics. We ordered a variety of dishes, and ultimately, most items fell into the same category as the scones--good enough but nothing we would go back for. Two exceptions were the sausage and cheese quiche (a smallish portion, but delicious with a lovely golden crust) and the biscuits and gravy. Biscuits and gravy are tricky-tricky, so I am giving them an additional star for the light, fluffy biscuits and the just-right gravy that would have satisfied Goldilocks herself. The fruit selections were fresh, sweet, and crisp, a pleasantly light complement to the heavier breakfast dishes.

After parking across the street from the old courthouse (now a museum) we dropped in here to pick up a couple of lattes before doing a short self-guided walking tour of the beautiful downtown area. This seems to be a gathering place for locals and visitors alike, the inside was busy but the friendly staff here made sure everyone was well taken care of, they have both counter and table service. It's a small venue with both indoor and outdoor seating so whether you're here to grab a light lunch, a dessert, an ice cream cone or a coffee I'm certain you'll find something you'll enjoy immensely... read more

Quaint and unassuming. Really good food and pleasant service. We had Deviled eggs and split the BLT with pimento cheese. Both were excellent. The whole grain bread was soft and delicious. Perfect small lunch we were looking for. The cases of baked cookies, cakes, croissants, and cinnamon rolls were too good to pass up. We bought 1/2 dozen various cookies to go. Highly recommend. read more

I've been to Dahlonega twice in December and I ate here both times. The menu isn't huge for breakfast but it has the essentials and it's really good! Charming atmosphere, great location, friendly staff, and somewhat reasonably priced, this is a great spot. The coffee is good too. My only complaint is that the orange juice is prepackaged in a bottle. I can live with that. read more

Ok, so there is a gold mine museum here in Dahlonega, GA and then there is this place another gold mine! This place was absolutely fantastic. I can not recommend this place enough as it was super packed and the food was superb!!! This is how you do it folks! Friendly service and fresh and excellent food. Pretty simple!!! With my frequent visits to the beautiful, world class town of Dahlonega Georgia, I particularly enjoy getting there early enough to enjoy an amazing breakfast at the Picnic Café on the Square! My daughter uncle and I are able to enjoy delicious biscuits and gravy, everything bagels loaded up with eggs, cheese, and ham, and a delicious everything omelette! The coffee was also over the top amazing! On a cool day it is so yummy, even on a hot day, It's delicious. Everyone in my party gave the place a gigantic thumbs up and an A plus for the delicious cuisine. The service was also outstanding. Such polite, respectful, and wonderful young people! read more

I had tuna salad on sour dough bread and potato salad. Both were very good. Service was very fast and friendly. For desert I had a lemon bar that was fresh and tasted excellent. They also have outdoor, dog friendly seating. read more

Meh, we stopped by before we walked around town. Best part was that there is outdoor seating so our pups could join us. There was an entertaining and talented street musician serenading everyone. I ordered toast, apparently, one piece to the order (huh) arrived burnt and cold. Since service was nonexistent despite many employees hanging out inside, I brought it in. Fortunately, it was exchanged and even 2 pieces were served hot. Such a deal... Hubby enjoyed his cappuccino and muffin. read more

Picnic Cafe & Dessertery is a cute little coffee shop with the friendliest staff! The girls behind the counter were quick to great, very attentive and overall happy to help when I arrived just past 9am on a Friday. I ordered the sausage, egg & cheese on a croissant along with some other items to bring back to my boyfriend. We enjoyed our meals. It was simple yet filling. The cinnamon roll was not as satisfying as it looked, so I would say that's a skip. Overall, I would come back if I was in town for something quick and easy. read more

This was such a fun little coffee stop during our trip to Dahlonega! I got one of their chai lattes, and it came with whipped cream, and was absolutely delicious. I went with a group of bachelorette trip, girls, and everyone absolutely loved what they got! Definitely a nice place to stop for some coffee or sweets! read more

Wandered in after being turned away for. A pizza place down the way. Fortune favors the adventurous I suppose. I couldn't make up my mind so tried a salad trio. Herbed, buttery toast points - huge pile of these. I felt like I ate 3 delicious sandwiches while my husband and dad ate one in whatever they ordered. Pimento- do it. The egg salad caught me off guard with thin sliced apple thrown in there, fun and yum. I also had the chicken salad but if I ever go back I'll probably lean harder into pimento. Now the main reason I'm writing this review: my husband said this was the best carrot cake he's ever had. I saw it from across the dining room as we were being seated. We had to take a piece home because we were so full from the meal. I have to agree: best carrot cake I've ever had. read more

I went to Picnic Cafe with a group of five other girls, and it was a great lunch experience! You walk in and order at the counter. We grabbed a table first and went up three at a time to order, since there weren't enough tables inside to accommodate everyone on a Sunday afternoon. The line was long, but went by pretty quickly. The food came out within 10 minutes of ordering. I got the peach chicken salad, which was a wonderful spin on a classic! I loved the sweetness that the peach added to the savory chicken salad. It came with fruit, which was wonderfully fresh, and a lemon poppyseed muffin, which was tasty but a bit dry. One of my friends got the salad trio with the peach chicken salad, egg salad, and pimiento cheese. She said that all three were great. The toast points that came with it were tasty, as well! My two friends who got the tomato soup definitely made the right choice. It came out steaming hot, and you can tell it was made in-house. I was given a small spoonful, and the flavors were full and perfectly savory. This may be the best thing on the menu. The pastries that we got definitely left a little to be desired; none of them tasted very fresh. This was the only disappointment of our lunch. I'll be back next time I'm in the area! read more

We had lunch here today and it was awesome! They had lunches (sandwiches and chips) under $8 and at this time of the year....that's huge!!! As a group, we had tuna, turkey, and the bbq lunches. All of us enjoyed every bite. After lunch, we paid at the counter and ordered coffee and pastry items. Again, delicious! I highly recommend this cafe to everyone! read more

Perfect little spot for a quick and light lunch. They offer homemade chicken salad and other sandwiches on croissants or bread as well as salads, soups, homemade quiches, coffee (hot, iced coffee, etc.), cookies, cakes, scones, etc. It is a delightful little place and the prices are very reasonable. This place is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced! We got two breakfast sandwiches one with bacon and one with sausage. You can add cheese and egg. Both of our sandwiches were full of flavor. My bacon was nice and crisp. The American cheese was not my first choice but I didn't pay attention to if there was other options. They had cookies, cannolis and other treats! I got a sweet iced coffee; sweetened condensed milk and coffee. It had good flavor but watered down quickly. Every server was super kind. The place was packed and we had to wait to snag a table from some people. Then another group snagged our table after we were done. It was packed when we got there and packed when we left. They had some outside seating and some people even brought their dogs (precious)! Overall 10/10 read more

My wild mushroom and rice soup and poppy seed salad was amazing! Everything tasted incredibly fresh. The peach chicken salad on croissant was good, but tasted more like mustard than peach. The fruit that came with it was also very fresh, not canned. We had strawberry cake and a raspberry shortbread cookie for dessert - both delicious. However, I added mushrooms and roasted red peppers, which added $2 each, and gluten free sandwich bread, which was a $5 upcharge. First, those veggies should not be a $2 upcharge each. That's obnoxious. Your menu burgers have toppings and are cheaper than a plain burger with 2 veggies. But, I am not taking stars away for the upcharge. I saw them, I accepted them. My problem is that with those changes, this was a $25 burger at an Irish pub in north GA and it tasted like a $5 burger from an Irish pub in north GA. It was dry, unseasoned, and very bland. You charged me $5 for 2 slices of bread from a loaf that costs $7.99 retail. A red pepper is $0.75 cents, maybe, retail, and for a couple teaspoons you charged me $2. Who knows what mushrooms cost, but the point is, for two toppings and sub 2 slices of sandwich bread, you charged me for a high-end steakhouse burger and served me a terrible backyard grill burger. On top of that, I ordered a whiskey (knob creek) on the rocks. On my check was a $2 rocks charge. So...you charged me $2 for ice? It makes no sense. It's the same amount of liquor. When I asked the server about it, she said because they pour an extra 2 ounces in. Obviously she lied because she had no clue what she was talking about. First, why would adding ice equal and extra 2 ounces? Maybe if I asked for an up martini or something, but I am adding volume, so why would you also add liquor? Second, my whiskey was $13 and a restaurant shot is 1, maybe 1.5 ounces. Do you really mean to tell me you gave me an extra 2 shots, maybe an extra 1.33 shots of a $13 liquor for $2 only because I asked for ice? I'm not an idiot. So, poor food, lying service, and unreasonable upcharges. I'm not coming back

This place has many different seating options. There is a section with tables, a section with couches and comfy chairs, and rooms where you can privately meet with your girlfriends, Bible studies, or book clubs. Every member if the staff was kind and helpful. It is obvious they genuinely care about the customer experience. Now, on to the food. I took one bite of my sausage and egg Sammie on Ciabatta and seriously started laughing. I have never done that before but the sandwich was so good that it was shocking. The bread was so soft and flavorful. It was such a hearty sandwich. I love a good flight option and this one did not disappoint. I got to try all of their specialty lattes with oatmilk. This will be our new meetup place whenever we pass through town.

I had a wonderful experience at Picnic Cafe and Dessertery! The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, they even made me a special vegan/planet based veggie sandwich, which was delicious and came with chips and fresh fruit. The service was excellent from start to finish. I loved the option of outdoor seating, which made it perfect for enjoying the weather and people-watching in the heart of downtown. I have always been pleased with the service and feel the portion sizes at the price are incredibly valued. The look and feel of the establishment creates an incredible ambiance and you just sort of feel "home". The servers are always incredibly friendly and helpful. If you are local to the area or work near the square it is the perfect place for a morning cup of coffee. read more
