I got an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and honestly told my friend that I'd prefer an everything bagel from Dunkin donuts. I think the everything bagel was way too salty. Simply amazing. I grew up in the great white north, in Jewish communities and eating a lot of bagels. When I moved to Austin I was dejected to realize I lived in what must be one of the worst bagel deserts in the country. I spent the next few years feeling like G-d had smote me for leaving behind my yankee people. I went in today on the first day the business was open and met the owners. Wholy Bagel delivered on an amazing product and great customer service. Went with the egg and blueberry bagels, which were pitch perfect. I heard such great things about this place, and they were all a let down. Just an average bagel, this will be about what you expect a bagel to be, and nothing more. I wish they put more schmear and also waited for the bagels to cool a bit so that it doesn't just melt like butter into the bagel when you get it. It's fine, just fine. Well I am a native New Yorker who has been eating bagels since I was a little boy. I travel extensively for business and Austin is a regular stop for me. As a result I was looking for a place to buy breakfast specifically a bagel breakfast sandwich that did not taste like it came out of the frozen food section. I was extremely pleased to run into Wholy Bagel. The sandwiches are fantastic cooked fresh on the grill with a perfectly done bagel. The bagel choices are terrific as are the meats and cream cheeses, what could be better. The staff is efficient and friendly and the stores offer a comfortable atmosphere. If you are a bagel person this clearly is the place to go in Austin, Texas. read more

honestly, we love this place - and it's really good - but haven't had a great experience with customer service the handful of times we have been. today while ordering and waiting for my food, which surprisingly i discovered was not toasted when i got home, a younger employee slammed the phone down, said "jesus christ" and proceeded to complain non-stop about a customer out loud. i understand it was a sunday but everyone looked they were being held hostage working at this location against their will this particular shift. a customer should never come in and feel like ordering food is an inconvenience to the entire staff. i wish the energy matched the food. read more

We have loved wholly bagel. I come in and buy a Texas Dozen and large cheese cheese at least twice a week. However, today, I rushed across town and arrived at 2:40 (I know you close at 3) and was refused service. I was told they were closed and proceeded to lock the door in my face at 2:40. If I owned this store, I would want to know that my employee closed early and lost business. It's really unfortunate, because my boys loved your bagels. read more

Bagels are delicious! The selection is great. Never ordered something I didn't love. Their hot bagel sandwiches are the best. The guys in there are super sweet and in a good mood. Only negative is it's a pretty long wait as they are always busy, but I'm sure those kinks will work out over time. read more

Went here for the first time today and like others have noted on yelp, we noticed NO ONE wearing gloves or hair protection! It was rather disgusting to see the workers pawing the entire bagel and all the fixings. I saw the owners addressed this in one of the reviews but I don't think this hand washing policy is nearly as vigorously enforced as they say. Workers were touching receipts, a stapler, a marker and worst of all their own nose, between prepping our bagels. NASTY!!! Given the number of reviews mentioning this why don't the owners just do BOTH? Wear gloves AND have a hand washing!? Not going back unless that changes. Just plain gross!! read more

We just started going here about a month ago. It's so delicious and reasonably priced! My husband and I both get an everything bagel with a fried egg, cheese, and sausage. I am a stickler for restaurant cleanliness. We tried Wholy Bagel this morning. I ordered an egg and cheese bagel sandwich. There were about 4-5 employees that I saw working behind the register/cream cheese bar/counter, NONE of which were wearing gloves when handling bagels or making sandwiches. One of the female employees was grabbing bagels out of the baskets, slicing them, wiping the counters with a rag, touching the counters, then touching the bagels, repeat, repeat, repeat. After getting my sandwich, there was minimal cream cheese and the eggs needed more seasoning. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? Toasted bagel, egg and cream cheese? Hmmm... Either way, I won't be returning. read more

I had to write a review after seeing some of the complaining reviews - these reviewers obviously have never been to NY or had a NY bagel. There is no relationship between a true NY bagel, and the bread with a hole in the middle that Einsteins and other national chains peddle. Wholy bagel makes true NY style bagels - boiling them first and then baking. So comparing them to chain style bagels is comparing apples to oranges. Kudos to smooth takeover from former owner Scott - much friendlier atmosphere, but Scott brought NY attitude to the shop which I miss. read more

A coworker brought in the bagel breakfast sandwiches, and I immediately became a Wholy Bagel fan! The bagels are soft and flavorful and give the sandwiches a nice boost. I went in not knowing what to expect and man was I blown away. The friendly staff took my order and even recommended a pastrami salmon (WHAT) for my lox bagel. In no time at all my order was in front of me and I was munching away. The bagels are made fresh every day which was obvious from the first bite. Every ingredient added to this absolutely astounding flavor experience. I even had to take some bagels to go along with a bottle of my favorite local beverage. I would definitely put more stars if they let me! Best bagel I have had outside of NYC. I'm not a pro yelper nor do I leave many reviews. I'm just a normal person who was really impressed with these bagels! You can tell they're properly boiled and baked, soft and billowy on the inside and golden brown and nice n crispy on the outside. Especially after they've been toasted. I get breakfast sandwich with bacon and egg and I have eaten here every morning for a week or more because I'm now addicted. They have the best cream cheese selection I've ever seen, as well as a nice assortment of NY treats- get some of that Bronx style crumb cake if you want a new guilty pleasures. I don't know how this place isn't more popular but I'm so in love with it that I'm going to make sure and tell everyone I know that way this local staple sticks around for t he long run.
