I've lived in Augusta, GA for about six years and I've seen Wife Saver. As a matter of fact they have several restaurants in the area. This was my first time trying the place and I like it. I dropped in to pick up some take out at their newest location. I ordered broccoli and cheese casserole, macaroni and cheese and corn bread muffins. It was great. The Broccoli and cheese casserole is awesome. It's one of my favorite casseroles of all time. Wife Saver made it with just enough cheese. Oh and the cornbread muffins were great too! This is the type of place I'd recommend if you didn't want to cook a big Sunday dinner. You could order everything here. They also have fried chicken and other southern classics. However, I just learned they sell 8oz. of homemade Pimento Cheese, which I'm recently obsessed with. I haven't tried theirs, but its on my list. I think I'll visit again. read more

I've never had a bad meal at Wifesaver. I've been to every location in the local area and they have never failed to make an impression. This location is fairly new. It was previously located about 500 ft up the street on the corner of Wrightsboro and Jackson Rd. The chicken is crispy, the greens are tasty, and the hush puppies are delicious. read more

The service/customer service/wait time is horrible!!!! Their attitudes stunk at the window. When you go in, no one is at the counter. They see you, yet no one moves to greet you and take your order. They just look at you. Update: today is 11/11/18. The review above was 4 months ago. Today, I don't know who was cooking but the food is awful. So he visits Augusta every other weekend and he always stops at this place and then tells me about it when he comes back. So finally while we were in Augusta together he took me to Wife Saver. He ordered the 3 piece meal with a side of macaroni and cheese and French fries( and you know I was trying his food). The Fried Chicken was amazing not greasy, the flavor went all the way through. The macaroni and cheese wow I don't know where to start. It was so flavorful and it had the burnt edges that you get when you cook it at home. They hit it on the macaroni and cheese. I ordered the country fried steak ,cabbage and lima beans. The country fried steak was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. Perfect breading, wasn't too heavy. The cabbage and the lima beans.....all I can say is that I ordered to go so that I can have some for when I got home. Will definitely visit every time I come into Augusta. read more

The food here is consistent. It's always good. I get the roasted chicken and I usually pair it with mac and cheese or green beans and mashed potatoes. The only objection I have for Wide Saver is the North Leg location tends to be full of a lot of attitude. I called today and placed a pickup order at 5:40. Called back 20 minutes later to pick up and the young lady who answered the phone told me I had to wait in the drive thru line because I could only do curb side for orders that were paid for. The drive thru line was in the street as it always is. This is new to me. I visit this location at least once a week. I always call in my order and I never have to wait in the drive thru for it. When I protested her answer she began to yell DOES ANYBODY HAVE AN ORDER FOR ASHLEY over and over so loud that I had to take my phone off speaker. Nevertheless.. the food was great. Wife Saver is still a go-to restaurant for home style cooking every time we visit Augusta. The chicken strips and their amazing honey mustard sauce really pleases the palate. We always end up getting the "nana pudding" but the red velvet cake is a treat too. Waited far to long inside trying to get a to go order. The outside drive thru was moving and people inside were getting their orders. After 15 or more minutes I went to the counter and asked if my order was lost. (No I didn't have an attitude ). I was told it was still cooking. First, I'll preface this review by stating that I'm a vegetarian so I did not try any meat items. I was excited to see a vegetable plate on the menu (I love sides!), but before I ordered I had to clarify that the veggies (e.g., greens, beans) were not cooked with meat. Unfortunately, all of the vegetables are cooked with pork so I was unable to order what I wanted. However, I did get the sweet potato fries, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and a corn muffin. I was disappointed because I wanted lima beans but nonetheless, my meal was delicious! The fries were a bit bland but with a few splashes of malt vinegar they were a-ok. The coleslaw was good, as was the corn muffin. The mac and cheese stole the show! It was a perfect balance of noodles to creamy cheese with just the right amount of browned bits on the top. The rugs were dirty and needed to be vacuum and the glass on pie display case looked as if it had not been cleaned in months. My Husband and I had heard Great thing about the wife saver..so we went in and ordered almost one of everything...thinking that whatever left overs we had we would eat on over the weekend. The chicken was old and had been fried in old grease. The green beans were mushy. The mac and cheese was congealed. The gizzards were fried hard as a rock. The biscuits were heavy and oily. The mashed potato tasted like they were instant and not mixed well. We dumped all the food in the trash and left hungry. I think this is the best fried chicken in Augusta. Period. They also offer fried fish and shrimp, pot roast, and other entrees. There is a wide selection of Southern-style side dishes such as mac and cheese and green beans, fried okra and black-eyed peas and more. This is in addition to the usual fries and coleslaw. Don't miss the lemon meringue pie for dessert. Some people (Hem! me) have even had the lemon pie for a birthday celebration. There are several other tasty dessert offerings as well. The restaurant is very clean and service is quick for the type of food offered. Seating is rather spartan: plastic benches and booths, so a great place for lunch or a quick dinner. Which leads me to my next point.... It's a popular spot for take out dining. It's especially good if you have a group and no two people like the same things. (Like my family.) SOOOOOOO HAPPY My husband and I went for a drive to Augusta from Atlanta with Wife Saver as our destination after choosing them from Yelp. It was amazing! Darn that there isn't one here. Let's start with the service. Everyone was so friendly, warm and helpful. The atmosphere is very comfortable. I ordered the shrimp and fish dinner with mac/cheese, turnip greens, cornbread, my husband got the 4 pc fish dinner with mashed pot/gravy and mac/cheese, cornbread. EVERYTHING was delicious! "MMM" from the first bite! Mac/cheese was like homemade in the oven, greens were juicy and tasty, cornbread didn't fall apart and had a tinge of sweetness, mashed pot and gravy tasty as well. Now the main part, the seafood! You know how you get fried seafood that has a thick breadedness to it and you're eating mostly bread?!! My shrimp was lightly breaded, fried, delicious I wish I had more than 5. The fish was the same, great! We paid about $11 for each dinner and it was worth more. Even if I had paid $15 each, it would've been worth it. My husband is very critical when we eat out and he said everything taste close to his grandmother's cooking and even when you're full and you take another bite, he said "MMM". This location is on N. Leg Road, it's different from the other location is Augusta. I think this one is a private owner, the other one is a franchise. Oh and the chicken is offered in different cooking methods too so not everything fried. I'm going to try the pork chops next because a customer had called the order in and said they're great. If you are ordering a to-go order, DON'T!!! I made that mistake and ordered to-go but still sat in to eat. I hate being served on paper or styrofoam plates in restaurants. The portions were so small in the to-go order. The employee who took my order came around and saw that I was eating in and told me that the portions are bigger if you order to eat in. She brought me two more full eat in portions of my sides which were steamed cabbage and macaroni and cheese. Both were delicious. It's hard to find restaurants that makes great macaroni nowadays but this place appeased me!!! I ordered the pot roast as well. It was delicious too, tender and swimming in savory gravy. The corn muffin was a star on the plate as well. My order was about $12 and some change which was kind of steep but the meal was good. Wife saver does make some good chicken. This is a fairly new location and its not that bad to get into or out of. The inside is spacious but its definitely 80's fast food setup. There is a drive thru but I am not so sure its worth your time. I ordered a 8 piece dark meat box and had sides of biscuits, green beans, fries, and macaroni and cheese. That came just shy of $29. That's a bit steep in my opinion. I waited about 15 minutes for my meal and was on my way. I should have double checked my order. When I got home it wasn't the dark meat meal I had ordered. There was white meat in it but I was like ok, it will be fine. The macaroni was good and so were the green bean though you could tell they came from a can. The biscuits were a bit dry and well the fries were a surprise. Instead of fries I ended up with a pint of honey mustard. I did call and they said I could come up and get the fries or come back the next day. I ended up deciding it wasn't worth my time. The thing that sticks in my mind is that someone else had an issue with their order while I was there and an issue with my order also meant someone else was going to have an issue with theirs. That's just too much messing up people are paying $30 for a meal to take home, I can sit at a restaurant for that. The chicken really is good and so were most of the side but they lose 3 stars due to being slow, not getting the orders right, a little pricey, and the inside doesn't make me want to stay and eat there. read more

$11.59 for a fish and shrimp plate, seemed like a good deal until we got our order. They barely show you any food. The fish tasted like the worst bottom feeding creature one could find. I assume they only serve cat fish and we love catfish, but this catfish was gross and soggy breading. The shrimp was tiny little popcorn shrimps that were over cooked and hard as a rock. We also had the fried chicken, which is different, not bad really. Its dark in color and crispy and really greasy. The breast was juicy. The chicken and fries were good. Not enough to make me come back though. They do not have lemon for ice tea. They serve packets of lemon flavor. What kind of southern food, sweet tea serving establishment does not supply real fresh lemon? If you want fresh hot fish of your choice with crispy thin batter and loads of hushpuppies and shrimp, go to Harbour Inn Seafood. Pay 12 dollars and you will have fresh fish falling off of your plate enough to feed 2 people along with drink and salad and side. And if you want delicious friend chicken for a bargain, go to Churches or Popeyes. read more

Had not had WS for a while so we decided to go to the WS in Grovetown last night for take out. Service was good at first because there was only one other customer there but that is where it ends. Got the order and brought it home. Chicken livers were not completely done. Also ordered BBQ chicken with extra BBQ sauce. The extra BBQ sauce was there but with fried chicken! Drove all the way back to get order corrected. Their response was "oh okay." Redid the order and brought it back to the counter and said"Have a nice day." No apology, no offer of anything for my time, inconvenience, or gas to have to go back to get their mistake corrected. This experience was far from the standard.
