I finally had dinner at Hot Foods by Calvin, also known as Calvin's seafood. I wish I would have been there much sooner. I never get fish, but I knew a whole fried bream would make for a great picture. Eating the fish at Calvin's has changed my mind, and I may have to order fish more often. The bream was fried perfectly, and the breading was so flavorful. My new friend and fellow foodie Matt Kelly got the piled high oxtail plate. It was an honor to get to meet Calvin himself and see all the awards he has received over the years. This is another perfect example of a restaurant you pass everyday but never stop to dine. Today I finally stopped, and I'm so glad I did. I would also like to add that the huge bream, 2 sides and all the delicious lemonade you can drink was only $11.88. Now that's a great deal!

There is plenty of parking. I'm not sure why it's called "at the river" bc I didn't see a river. There is inside and an outside enclosed area for seating when you enter from the parking lot. It is decorated like a casual bar and grill. My server was in training but friendly and worked alongside his trainer head server. For beverages, I ordered the oyster shooter and that Bloody Mary did not disappoint. I also had a Black Raspberry Margarita. This seems to be a thing in Augusta for Margaritas as well as this was the 2nd restaurant I went to and had this. The other place was better though. But let's talk about the food! The catfish was super tasty. They gave me fries although I didn't order them, and of course I still ate them. I had a side of baked potato salad. I should've asked why they're baked, but that was just okay. I had the TASTE OF BEAMIES- chicken & shrimp gumbo, black eyed pea jambalaya, shrimp and grits, my fav's in order were the chicken and shrimp gumbo, the shrimp and grits, then the black eyed pea jambalaya. I also ordered the 1/2 dozen Rockefeller oysters and they were amazing. The hush puppies that came with them were just okay. Overall, I enjoyed this meal.

Food was ok. I requested Scallops on a bed of rice. Well, the Scallops were slightly overcooked,…read morethe bed of rice was about 2 grains thick. Very skimpy. I also asked for Horseradish and got a small cup, perhaps a teaspoon. Skimpy. In fact, I felt for what I paid was nowhere near worth the price. My wife even commented the portions were so small. The food reminded me of pub food. Funny. I told my wife I dont care for pub food,. Well..... Now the Key Lime Pie was great, and the waitress was very accommodating and nice. Great service. We sat in the enlosed porch, thinking it would be quieter. Nope. In fact, I had visions I was at a convention. My wife and I had much difficulty conversing. I guess we chose the wrong place to sit. And no, there weren't many patrons. It was an experience. Expected more. Doubt I would try again.

If you've never been there, they will start you out with samples of all of their lemonade (which all of them are incredibly flavorful) and you'll inevitably get one because it's THAT good. The staff comes with recommendations to help you navigate the menu and they are so attentive and helpful. I'd go as far to say that they had some of the best service in Augusta. Now to the food, 10/10 I could not recommend them enough. I've had the honey lemon pepper wings and the loyalty platter. And it was so good. The honey lemon pepper wings were full of deep flavor and they give you at-least 10 wings with the plate. The steak and shrimp are the best seasoned meats I've ever had at a restaurant. I've also had a few nibbles of their seafood and ‍. Then when you're ready for dessert, don't worry you get samples too. The blue velvet is my favorite but all of them are award winning so you can't go wrong when it comes to Nattas sweet treats. Over all, great experience, great people, and great place. Get out and support local, it'll never disappoint. P.S. if you think it's pricey, you're wrong. You get what you pay for here. You get no less than two meals out of one plate.

While the…read moreserver was sweet and mostly attentive, she never told us about the specials, forgot a drink and we had to ask about the bread. I ordered the Australian Wagyu , it was okay, tasty but not tender. The side faux potato was awful. My partners pork chop was better. The crème brûlée was the best part. I'm still wondering if I would have preferred one of the specials. For the price of this meal I can go to other places such as Frog & Hen, or Cork & Flame, and get the crumbs scraped off my tablecloth with a knife. Sorry, but when a customer arrives expecting to pay top dollar for a meal, they expect the meal, the service and the atmosphere to be too notch as well. Brinkleys didn't hit that mark.

They have a valet system, so no worries about parking. Staff have been very professional and friendly, so 5/5 stars for that. I ordered the 8oz filet mignon, medium rare. Steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly! It came with asparagus and mashed potatoes covered in a crispy layer of batter, which all complimented the steak well. I tried their tuna tartare, which had an interesting take on what the tuna was served on. I've always been used to tuna tartare being accommodated with bread, but this was sushi rice compacted and covered in some light batter. Felt like I was eating tuna sushi. Apply some of the sauces it comes with and seriously was fantastic. I also got to try 4oz of their Japanese A5 Wagyu. Super expensive; $80 dollars for four ounces, but worth the experience. You cook the thin pieces over a hot stone and apply some of the seasonings like salt it comes with. I cooked each side for about 30 seconds, sprinkled some salt, and it melted in my mouth! I ended my meal with their carrot cake and it was moist, not overly sweet, and had a great savory taste. I really enjoyed my time here and certainly will be back again. There is a bar and at the back of the restaurant, you can see the baseball field. Restrooms were clean, but only one stall from what I've seen in the men's room. Overall 5/5 steak house experience.
