I'm from Philly so I've had a pretty decent share of good pho-- I grew up on it. Coming here for a dinner after a nice family hiking trip was just PERFECT. Totally wasn't expecting to taste fantastic broth and nice bouncy noodles out here in WNC. Literally nothing could be better, staff was extremely friendly and very attentive. When I initially ordered, I told her exactly what I wanted (it was my first time there and didn't know how to order). She said she understood and I would get what I wanted. Long story short, order was completely wrong, I let her know and she just acting like she had no idea what I was talking about event though we had a whole conversation in the beginning. She was not attentive and I had to ask all the other servers for things we needed. I emailed the restaurant, and called and left a message for the manager to give me a call; haven't heard back. I would not recommend this place just for the fact that the service is not good, and if you have an issue, act is if they are annoyed and too bothered to care and fix it. Okay. Can we talk about this place? Oh man, oh man, oh man. I'm up visiting from Charleston, SC where the Vietnamese food scene is mediocre at best (with the exception of the FABULOUS work being done by Pink Bellies at their pop-ups). I grew up in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area eating at the hole-in-the-wall, out-of-this-world good family owned Vietnamese dives in Haltom City. Wild Ginger is the best Pho place I've eaten at on the East Coast (and I realize I'm in WESTERN NC). Period. Everything was on point. The Goi Cuon were perfectly fresh and packed with deliciousness, the peanut sauce was flavorful and balanced, and the PHO....oh the PHO...broth was perfectly seasoned, not greasy, fresh meats, fresh veggies...heavenly. Even the Thai tea was on par with the ones I was drinking in Thailand at this time last year. To top it off, there is this homemade chili, lemongrass, ginger, I don't know what else hot sauce on the table next to the sriracha and hoisin in an unassuming little squeeze bottle. Take my advice. Squeeze it. That shit is AMAZING. I'm trying to figure out how to ask them if I can by a gallon of it when I go back again tomorrow. read more

Really amazing Vietnamese food! Some of the best lemongrass pork I've ever had. Each dish is carefully constructed by the chef which is rare. I will agree with the other reviews that the food started off amazing and has slipped down a few notches. The last two times we have been there, the restaurant has been dirty. You guys, I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet! I have been to Wild Ginger roughly 5 times in the last 2 months and haven't been disappointed even for a second. The prices are reasonable, the staff is incredibly sweet, and the food is on point. I would say this is, without a doubt, the best Vietnamese food in town! Our go-to order includes the Bahn Mi (perfection!), the vermicelli rice noodle salad, and the spring rolls. I have yet to try the pho, but I am so excited to order it next time I go. I've eaten here once before and the food was good but the service subpar. The broth was delicious, the noodles were cooked right and the meat was the right amount of tender. However waitress brought my wife the wrong type of egg roll. Then acted like we made the mistake on our order. We ended up paying for a fresh batch of the right type of egg roll and the egg rolls that came by mistake. The service is also slow. They are VERY slow to seat and do not check up on you enough despite the restaurants small size. Today I decided to get take out. I ordered in advance and arrived AFTER the 20 minutes I was told the food would take. When I arrived there was a line of people waiting to pick up take. I waited 20 minutes to pick up my order and pay even though it was ready when I arrived. If you are craving pho this is a good place to go ONLYif you can get past the poor service read more

I thought it was ok, I had pho tai nam chin, my parents had pho tai nam. Since we are Vietnamese i guess we know good pho or good Vietnamese food. The brisket was dark brown and old and the soup base didn't have a lot of flavor. The staff was nice though. I guess in Asheville there's not a lot of Vietnamese food, so it'll have to do. Very disappointed with the service today at Wild Ginger. Recently moved to Asheville and had heard good things about their food and was excited to give them a try but couldn't get an order in ( or even a water) while we waited for service for over 20 minutes. I did see them seat two other parties after us that did get greeted, serviced and orders taken. Apparently larger groups and regulars take priority. We walked out and called them to let them know they need to do a better job. Will take our business elsewhere. read more

Amazing food. We loved Pho r Us and have eaten Pho all over the world. We thought "grandpas" pho was the best but Chef Aileen has taken the pho flavors up a few notches. Also have had the amazing tender flavorful pork chop and the veggies in coconut broth are amazing. We are delighted with the attentive and smiling service. Prices are reasonable and similar to what we have paid everywhere else including Europe. Great value for incredible food. We are there every week and crave it often. The pho here is some of the best I have ever eaten. It's in a little strip mall that also hosts an Asian market and a Thai restaurant, but Wild Ginger stands out with their flavourful pho broth and perfectly seasoned topping selections. I got mine as a takeout and got and order of the brisket pho and an order of the meatball pho for the kids. My partner got the bahn mi and it was awesome too (we held the prawn crackers for a shellfish allergy). The pork eggroll appetizer was well-seasoned, if a little small for the price. Ok so I've been to this restaurant when it was PHo R Us and that's when it won me over. I had never tried PHo before so I never had anything to compare it to but regardless I fell in love with the vegetable PHo. So when it changed over to Wild Ginger I was a little surprised and was hoping that the taste would not change but I've tried it two times since the change of management the taste is just as great. It has an updated logo and brighter updated interior of the restaurant. Very Fresh!. So everytime I've gone I've only tried the vegetable PHo but last night my friend ( BTW an amazing Yelper) encouraged me to try a couple of other dishes. We had vegetable spring rolls super fresh, super yummy love them! Then it got even better we had the chicken sandwich (bahn mi) This dish was by far my favorite and was so delicious the bread was toasted perfectly and it had some sort of mayol on it I can't really describe the flavor but it was delicious. It also had some vegetables radishes other stuff. My new favorite PHO sho!! (Corny I know but you laughed ). Last we tried the Beef skewers over a rice with a garlic red pepper dipping sauce and aside pickled cabbage and carrots. This side was very yummy. The pickling wasn't too strong and I have just a little sweet fand the veggies were still crispy which I love!. The only thing that I did not like about the beef skewers is they only had that crispy BBQ texture on one side as opposed to on the other side which was kind of soft so I would recommend them rotating it. . Not going to lie, when this location was under different ownership I was not impressed. I moved here from the DC metro area and really missed having pho. Wild Ginger was a much needed addition to the Asheville area. The food is refreshing and well seasoned, and the ambiance is perfect. I can see this becoming my new go-to spot. (My only feedback would that they still use styrofoam to-go containers, which are wasteful on the environment and is easily melted by hot food). read more

Wild Ginger is a great little restaurant. Whenever I feel a cold coming on, all I want is pho. There's something about the combination of the hot broth and the herbs and the hot sauce that seems to get me back into shape. It's my chicken soup. Luckily, this place is 15 minutes from my house. Friendly service, hot soup. In addition to their pho, the banh mi and rice noodle salad are also pretty solid. This is also a surprisingly good spot to take my 4-year-old. Get an extra bowl and you can share your soup, picking and choosing toppings to their taste. While it isn't THE BEST PHO EVER IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE, it's a solid choice. read more
