This was a most unexpected and enjoyable experience! When looking for a local lunch spot, my fam was in the mood for Thai, so we gave this place a shot. It was the middle of the day on a Friday, so I wasn't surprised that the place was empty except for one couple. Obviously, we were seated immediately and we got menus. As with most Thai restaurants I have been to, they have decor that puts your mind at ease. As we looked through the menus, I was excited by how much variety they had. I decided to go with their mango salad which hit everything just right. Now, I usually don't care for lettuce in my salads because of how generic it is (I prefer Spinach and dark greens), but this lettuce was so crisp I couldn't help it. And the mango dressing was definitely pureed fresh mango, and it tasted absolutely wonderful! My Dad and I also shared a "Happy Meal", which is all sorts of meats on one festive dish. The chicken wings on there were among the best wings I have had from an Asian restaurant, and may even compete with some of the best Korean Fried Chicken I have had. Other things on the plate included chicken tingers, ribs, spring rolls and crab rangoon. I would be happy to get that any time that I am in town. This was a huge, really pleasant surprise. We ordered (takeout) green beans with cashews, vegetable mei fun, and tofu broccoli. Everything was so much better than I thought it would be. I wasn't really hungry, and had had Chinese recently, but the remnants of hurricane Ida were dumping buckets of rain and this is very conveniently located near a few hotels, one of which we were staying at. That worked out well and I will actually seek this place out next time I'm in the area. The green beans are tender and have just the right amount of garlic. Perfect. The tofu broccoli is in a brown sauce that is very flavorful and tofu is perfectly done. The mei fun is also very flavorful and I thought it would be plain. Disgusting: your one word review for Wild Ginger. I ordered Pad Thai and got a dish of rubbery noodles, with a red sauce that has no flavor and is not even close to what pad Thai should taste like. The dish was cold, and bad to the point that I decided to not eat it. Another person in my group ordered red curry chicken, which came with rice so hard and dry that it could have been used as a replacement for the peanuts in the Pad Thai that they forgot. The chicken was undercooked. For $11 a plate, I'd sooner eat Panda express or some cheap TV dinner Chinese food. This is my first and only time at Wild Ginger. So you're telling me you're gonna charge me upwards of $30 if I ordered my typical 10 wings? Although I've experienced better, this place was still a-okay so 2.5 stars. Shrimp Pad Thai - Good God...just avoid it. It's not that it was repulsive, it's just that it was absolutely bland. This is undoubtedly one of the worst Pad Thai noodles I've had in a long time. It just lacked flavor...and I don't mean "they didn't put enough of the secret sauce" but more like "I think they completely forgot to add the sauce". That how bland it was. It was edible, but not at all what I expect Pad Thai to be. The only positive of this dish was that they didn't seem to skimp on the shrimp. Lots of big morsels of shrimp! The tofu used looked like long skinny strips of purple eggplant instead of the usual bright red cubes. Also I don't recall ever having Pad Thai with bell pepper. Again not terrible but not exactly what I was expecting. My recommendation is just to stay away from it. Sesame Chicken - Not bad. Exactly what you'd expect with Sesame Chicken. Ok let me start in saying that I have not tried to order food here but I love the buffet. The food is always hot and ready to go. The refill there food and make sure its always full and hot. I have never seen workers rush so hard so the customers can get food. Its a small little place in a small strip mall. When your in a rush on your lunch this is a great place to go in or take out. My adventures here are always on my friends lunch and we only have an hour. SO It makes me happy that I can get at least three servings in before they have to go back to work. The price is very fair and reasonable. Its under 20 bucks which is great. ALL you can EAT. As well there is a little bar/resturant in the corner of this mall call Freddys. Best Asian cuisine in town. Period. Staff is extremely friendly, and usually playing quiet family-friendly radio in the background (STAR 99.1). Food is outstanding, we have eaten our way through the menu and hardly found a dish that we weren't pleased with. Food is not over seasoned and not at all "greasy". You can eat a full meal here and not have that "Chinese takeout" feeling in your gut afterwards. Even the fried rice is light and doesn't turn hard in the fridge overnight due to lack of high fat content. The people who work here are very nice... and there isn't much else around... but I really haven't cared for the food I have had here. It was probably the worst pad thai I have ever had. There was something sour and off about the flavor. I was hungry, so I ate some of it anyway, and I really regretted it. I brushed my teeth, flossed, and took a double-Altoid dose to try to get the flavor out of my mouth... it lasted for hours. It might be a while before I can try this place again. I really wanted to like it since it is near where I stay for work.
