However, low and behold, one of the best friends bakeries I've ever been to happens to be in my own hometown of Pittsburgh! Madeline bakery and bistro it's a wonderful place to get both savory and sweet pastries, fresh bread, and even homemade granola. My kids consider their chocolate croissants the best they've ever had - and yes, they are experts! The only caveat is that when they run out of baked goods, they are done for the day. So go early and go often to Madeleine... you won't regret it!

I was hoping…read moreto grab a sandwich around 10:30am, but was told the baguettes would not be ready until around 11, and the sandwiches would not be ready until about 11:30. Since we were not in a rush, the weather was nice, and there were a few tables outside, we decided to wait it out. In the meantime, we ordered two madeleines, which were beautifully baked with a light orange flavor and were definitely the highlight of the visit. We took a walk around the neighborhood and came back at 11:30, only to find a limited number of "pescatarian" sandwiches while the ham and butter sandwiches would not be ready until noon. At that point, we decided to give up on the sandwich plan. Overall, I would still come back because the bakery itself was charming and the madeleines were excellent, but the timing around sandwich availability was frustrating and worth knowing ahead of time.

This coffee shop is located right on South Braddock Avenue in Regent Square and has both an outdoor ordering window and an indoor space. Since my wife and kids were waiting in the car and the sign said the window was served first, I decided to go that route. Because of that, there is not much more to say about the space itself other than I ordered from the sidewalk through a window. For my coffee I went with a large blueberry latte which I had seen recommended on Yelp. My wife went with an iced brown sugar cinnamon latte. Both drinks were ready within a couple of minutes and I was quickly on my way. Both my wife and I really enjoyed our coffees. The coffee itself was strong, bold and present. The syrups were flavorful and well balanced so they came through more on the finish and lingered nicely. They were not overly sweet and added a nice layer of flavor. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I really enjoyed our coffees, so it is an easy return for us.

It has a really nice neighborhood vibe that makes you want to hang out. As for the menu, they focus heavily on coffee and tea, they have an extensive loose-leaf tea selections. I ordered one of their fresh juices because I am always looking for something healthy without processed junk. They also have lots of cookies and pastries like homemade scones and biscotti for my sweet tooth. Verdict: This is a charming small local spot with a great community feel. If you are in the East End and want a fresh juice or a solid cup of coffee, give it a try.
