I was visiting family in the area and unfortunately left very disappointed. The food was far too salty overall, and the protein portions were extremely small. The white rice portions were huge in comparison, while the sticky rice came in a tiny plastic bag with a very small portion. The street noodle dish was especially disappointing and it was absolutely doused in soy sauce, making it overwhelmingly salty and unpleasant to eat. I was honestly disgusted by it and could barely enjoy the dish. The chicken wings were also overly salty, which made it difficult to enjoy them. What was even more disappointing was that the server actually admitted that the food was created to suit American tastes and was not authentic Thai food. That explained a lot, because the flavors did not taste like authentic Thai food I've had elsewhere. The price was also far too high for what we received which is about $20 per plate on average. We spent over $120, and it felt like we paid mostly for large portions of white rice rather than a satisfying amount of protein and authentic Thai food. For that price, I expect much better flavor, quality, portions, and authenticity. Unfortunately, this experience was not worth the money at all. Because we live in a very "hyped" society and we almost force ourselves to like something that lot of people like, you will see comments like "this is the best restaurant in Bend or this place is a MUST in Bend" I am not bargaining about this place because I also like Wild Rose Thai restaurant in Bend OR but considering how many other options are available, I would say this place is very good but not exceptional. Quantity has degraded significantly in this place over years and when we are paying 20+ dollars for a "so called" large plat, it is not really large by any means. After hearing so many amazing things about Wild Rose, my husband and I finally made it in last night! We arrived around 6:30 and got seated right away--the host did mention we'd have the table for about an hour because of a later reservation, which was totally fine. We ordered the 'Butterflies' and the 'Khao Soi Curry' (level 2). The food came out fast, but was just warm rather than hot, and the curry didn't have much flavor, which surprised us since everyone we know loves it here. We're guessing it might've just been an off night and definitely plan to come back and give it another shot. I got the five spice pork dish, it tasted good seasoning wise for the meat. However, the pork was a bit dry and veggies were bland. On another note, why the hell did I only get a few bites of meat out of this?? Look at what they advertise on their website, versus the dish I actually got. The food is really just OK. Its pricey, the service is quick and to the point and the food is just fine. We tried 4 dishes (beautiful food in the photo) and ordered drinks. They brought one small side of rice. When They brought us our bill, we asked for one extra side of rice to-go. They retrieved the bill and added a two dollar charge for the side of rice. Seems a little petty given what we spent. I can see that It is attempting to carve out a more authentic niche. However, I have been to northern Thailand twice and it feels like it misses the mark. Visiting Bend and found this place randomly, it was busy but we got seated in less than 5 minutes. The staff were friendly, listened to my dietary needs and did a great job. When you walk in, you instantly see the thousands of dried roses covering the ceiling, it's gorgeous. The menus have all vegan or gluten free options clearly marked which makes ordering a breeze. Now for the food, just amazing. They are northern Thai, which has some different cuisine and flavors than what some may be use to however the portions are large, the flavors delightful and we finished everything. I noticed some reviewed pricing was expensive....and I'm confused. 3 beverages and 2 shareable entrees at a quality sit down restaurant for $65 is incredibly affordable. Got the chance to revisit this Thai spot after a few years, and I'm happy to say it's still going strong. Not much has changed in terms of the atmosphere--which is a good thing. The ambience is warm and inviting, and there's decent parking right out front, which is always a plus. Service was decent and attentive enough, and I appreciated that the menu is well-organized and not overwhelming like some places can be. It was easy to find what I wanted without flipping back and forth or getting lost in too many options. As for the food, the noodles with curry were absolutely to die for--rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Easily the highlight of the meal. Though reservations are typically recommended, we have found that dining before 6:00 pm can get you an unreserved table or seats at the bar most of the time. If you have a larger party definitely get a reservation because this place is popular. Service is quick and friendly. Food comes out hot and fresh. Choose your heat level up to 5. Ok I hate to downgrade this rating but there was literally one dish that was so unexpectedly poor that I had to. We were driving through Bend and stopped here for a quick bite around 3 pm on a Saturday. Given the off time, there wasn't really a wait which was nice great. The thai iced coffee was strong and refreshing and my husband's limeade was good too. I will give a lot of points to the menu for being clearly labeled regarding what can be made vegetarian/vegan though I did have a few questions. None of the curries are vegetarian/vegan and I really did not want noodles which was the recommended veg option. I instead got a side of the broccoli and the tom kha with some rice. The broccoli was good; good flavor and crunch, but the tom kha...Perhaps it was my own expectation based on prior tom kha that I have had, but this was SO incredibly sweet that I hard time even eating it. I ended up picking out all the veggies/tofu in it so as not to waste food, but my husband took one sip and refused to have any more. It was so cloyingly sweet that I really struggled to enjoy it. I had the option of ordered it with tofu or veggies and went with tofu which turned out to be cubes of tofu, simmered in the somewhat lukewarm soup that came to the table. I will say I was pretty disappointed by this. I will say my husband really enjoyed his pork and rice dish so if you're more of an omnivore, I think you will truly enjoy this spot. Service was friendly and happy to guide me through the menu given my dietary preferences, but for the price, I will say the food was a bit of a letdown. THE FOOD * Grandfather's Tom Kha ($16, with chicken, mild spice) - 4 stars. Nice sour flavor. My friends liked this dish the best. We got a 2 out of 5 spice, but it might as well have been a 1. Chicken was very dry and tasted out of place. * See Klong Moo Tod ($16, deep fried crispy pork spareribs) - 3.5 stars. Tasty, crispy, on the dry side. * Street Noodles ($20, with pork) - 3.5 stars.
