A quaint restaurant in the heart of the Pittsburgh Hills is the Wild Rosemary Bistro. Apparently, at one point, this restaurant was hopping and required several months in advance to make a reservation. Unfortunately, the restaurant closed and was bought by new owners, which is now known as Wild Rosemary Bistro. The restaurant probably can only hold about 50 people. They have a Supper Club prix-fixe menu that is served family style, which is a unique experience for guests. I brought my Supper Club to try out this place, and the experience was filled with both ups and downs. First, I had a rather large group coming, and they split up our group into 2 tables that weren't close to each other. I knew this ahead of time, so that was no problem. Our waitress was nice but the service was pretty slow for the amount of people in the restaurant. It was also very hot in the restaurant, and our group had to ask for ice for our water and ourselves because we were so hot. The meal started out with some sauce & ricotta focaccia. It was doughy and soft but very heavy and filling. It was a nice, added touch since it wasn't on the menu! Carrot & Fennel Soup: This soup was different and outstanding! The flavor profile was so good, and I enjoyed every minute of it! We also got some more bread in between courses. Lemon Cream Alfredo: This dish was very lemony and not overly hot like I would have liked. It definitely tasted like something I could make at home. Salmon: We got A LOT of salmon, but it was very dry and overly tasted like dill. Many people in my group loved this, but I was not one of them. Nutella Tiramisu: I don't like coffee flavor or Nutella, and I loved this dessert. It was so flavorful, and we got a very large portion! Overall, we paid $80/per person for this meal. We got A LOT of food and even had enough to take home. However, for as much quantity as we got, there was lack in the quality of the food. There were so many bread and starch courses, that we were ridiculously fool throughout the whole meal. We would have preferred less bread and more substance. The idea and concept for this restaurant is great. I really hope they are able to provide a better quality of food. If they do, I think this restaurant could really soar! read more

This was such a nice experience. They're only open for the supper club Thursday- Saturday. It's served family style with strangers so if you're not into that don't go but it's not like you're eating off the same fork. It's small and intimate in there and decorated beautifully. The food was amazing the risotto was the favorite of the night. I like the pesto but the pasta was a bit too al dente for me. The waitress was so nice and the courses came out quick since it's a set menu she even packed up our leftovers. Definitely come hungry because it's six courses plus homemade bread . I had enough for a decent lunch the next day. The biggest con for me is its far from my area but I'll take that drive once a month for the changing menu read more

If you have developed a list of the "best meatballs" you're my kind of person. & if you'd like to challenge the top contender on that list, go to Wild Rosemary bistro cause their meatballs are now my number 1. Last week I was invited to try out a new Pittsburgh restaurant Wild Rosemary. ( Upper St Clair, south hills neighborhood) You may know the name but it's reopening with a new chef and concept. It's now led by chef Ray, formerly of Cafe Raymond in the Strip District. But this isn't any dining experience. It's a supper club style dinner of five courses, where you'll be getting to know your neighbors. I really enjoyed this meal, especially the homemade bread, meatballs, ricotta-stuffed zucchini roll ups and (of course) the red wine. Just opened, new owners, new chef, new decor, the Wild Rosemary Bistro is now open again, on Bower Hill Road near Bridgeville, and Upper St. Clair. The hours are currently 8:30~3:00 Weds. thru Saturday, and will be opening for Dinner after Labor Day. We stopped today for brunch. I had the Vegan Hash, which was made with Quinoa and Veggies, plus a house made Ciabatta bread. I enjoyed it very much. My friend had the Farmer's Breakfast, and he said he liked it too. So this was a weird experience. We used to be a regular customer at the old Wild Rosemary, but we didn't expect the same experience. We found the food a 4 rating. Good but nothing out of the ordinary. Our issue was with ambience and service. Our table was to the left and by a counter that I assume is for earlier in the day. Coffee machines etc. These counters became covered with dirty dishes and there was an overflowing garbage can. Things that for an upscale dinner shouldn't be in the dining room. Lighting was also too bright. Ambiance didn't match prices and were just strange. Our reservation was at 730. According to their website they table reservations until 8. At 9:02, server told us we had to leave in 10 minutes even though we were still enjoying our wine. We won't go back. read more

I had been wanting to come here since I heard they were re-opening and was so excited to have finally come for breakfast! Seating area inside is small, and not very comfortable if sitting by the windows. There is also seating outside Service was top notch! Our server was very attentive and polite I got the lemon blueberry pancakes -- delicious! I usually never go for pancakes but these looked too good to pass up, and I'm glad I didn't! The side of hash browns was also fantastic You cannot make a reservation for breakfast. We will definitely be back for another breakfast and dinner! read more

I was very disappointed with my experience at this establishment. After reading several positive reviews, I was genuinely excited to try it--but unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. From the food to the service to the overall ambiance, the experience fell short in every area. We had a 5:30 p.m. reservation on a Saturday, and the issues started right away. Water was served in paper cups, which felt out of place for a sit-down restaurant. Since it's a BYOB spot, I expected the server to ask if we needed wine uncorked or glasses provided--but I had to initiate that myself. As soon as we were seated, our server rushed over to ask if we were ready to order appetizers. We had barely opened the menus, but feeling pressured, we ordered two salads and meatballs to share. Before we could really enjoy them, she returned to take our entrée orders. One guest in our party has gluten and dairy allergies, and when she inquired about accommodations, the server's repeated response was simply, "I don't know," without offering to check or follow up. The menu was quite limited: two salads, a couple of appetizers, two bucatini dishes, one penne, and two chicken entrées. The salads were mostly plain lettuce with minimal toppings and almost no dressing. The pasta dishes lacked flavor and didn't stand out in any way. After finishing our meal, we were asked if we wanted dessert--though the only dessert option was tiramisu, which we ordered. No one offered after-dinner coffee or digestifs. While we were still eating dessert, the bussers began aggressively clearing the table. At one point, a buser even picked up the tiramisu dish while a guest still had their spoon in it. Despite our 5:30 reservation, we were out the door by 6:20, which made the entire meal feel rushed and transactional. I asked if we could sit on the empty patio to finish the wine we brought, and was told no--because they had to "keep it open for walk-ins." The patio remained completely empty when we left. Overall, it felt like the focus was on turning tables quickly, not on providing a welcoming or enjoyable dining experience. I won't be returning. read more

New restaurant in the area. I checked the menu before going so I was well aware of offerings. The place is small inside & cozy, outside there is a great patio area, I even seen people bring their dog. I ordered the basic breakfast with ham. I didn't care for the potatos at all, they were a big pile of mush. Ham was ok, sourdough bread was good. Hubby had hash & it was well overcooked. Service was super slow, but food did come out hot. Just be aware you have to pay for water, only bottled coke & a coffee was 4.00. Bill for two was over 46.00 with no tip, drinks made up for a large portion of our meal. I'm usually a two coke person but I didn't want to pay for an additional can. I will try & go for dinner once dinner service starts since it will be BYOB. I'll start by saying it is a nice family style setup compared to some other family style dining I've experienced previously. The staff is friendly, and the portions were adequate. The clientele when we were there was young to upper middle aged and appeared to be upper middle class as would be expected in that area of southern Pittsburgh suburbs. It seemed that no one there would have a problem spending $80 per person plus tip. Okay, now on to the food and menu problem. Most other reviews on yelp and Google refer to a breakfast menu. I believe the only menu available at this time is the fixed price Supper Club menu. We had the May menu and there was not much that jumped out as something I needed to try or would be challenging to prepare for anyone who cooks even a bit at home. It was all good, but not great. For the cost of the meal and the casual environment I really thought I would be wowed by something. I wasn't. Beyond the two variations on a foccaccia type bread sliced so everyone could have a piece, the meal was mostly chicken broth, butter, lots and lots of oil, small pastas, some ramps which we were told came partially from their garden, and chicken saltimbocca as our meal's protein. Dessert was a great idea for home, individual tiramisu. It was good and I'm sure made the chefs life much simpler. I think the owner has a great idea, and a great location. I think the value for the consumer is not such a good idea, and diners deserve more than okay food served on leftover serving pieces from a diner. The experience really let me down and the food didn't elevate my perception. I don't have a need for a repeat visit and that might be something that I would think about if it was my business. read more

Chef Ray does an incredible job. Nice menu and really tasty food. Our waitress must have been new and not real attentive and spacey. My Gaetano was so good with some tasty meat and some spicy flavors. The ciabatta bread was so fresh and perfect for the sandwich. The Mort was a really good sandwich as well. read more

Food - 5 Service - 2 Value - 3 I understand this place is just getting in its groove and the food is no doubt good enough for me to go back. This is the feedback I emailed to the owner with no reply. 1) when someone is dining in, you haven't given them a menu yet, and they want a glass of water, you don't plunk a small $3.50 bottle of Fiji on their table. It's bad for the environment and it's disingenuously expensive. I understand if you want to provide bottled water for takeout but come on, pour me a glass of water. 2) when a guest has been seated they shouldn't have to ask for a menu. A menu should be provided. And when they've already told you that they are a party of two, please provide two menus and don't make the guest have to ask for another one for their dining partner. 3) I get it - potato chips out of a bag are technically "potatoes" but when you order a sandwich in a chef-driven joint and it says it's served with potatoes, you really don't expect a handful of chips complete with the crumbs from the bottom of the bag. 4) our sandwiches were DELICIOUS. But a $45 lunch before tip that consisted of two sandwiches, some potato chips, two pickles, and two bottles of water...that's pricey. If you can't tell, paying $7.00 for two waters ticked me off. 5) the servers need some training. They're wiping tables with sopping wet rags that leave the tables so wet it takes a good 10 minutes for them to dry. One of the servers was walking to a table with food and one hand and the other hand in his hair, which is gross and unsanitary. They behave more like food runners than servers. read more

My friends and I were so excited when the official Supper Club reservations opened. Supper Club is their weekend dinner service. It's a pre fixed menu served family style. There were three couples in our groups which worked out perfectly because the tables were setup in seats of 6. Chef Ray started the night by welcoming us and telling us why he started Supper Club. He basically said to relax, meet new friends and enjoy the food as it comes out. The night started with the grilled bread with eggplant, which had so much flavor! The next two courses were the greens and beans and the arancini balls. My husband and I thought the arancini balls were the star of the show. They creamy sauce that was on them was simply divine. Next up were the mains, starting with the anchovy pasta. It was not a strong anchovy taste at all. And then the beef polenta was also one of my favorites of the night. We ended with an apple and fig tart. This place is also BYOB and they don't charge you a corking fee. At least not for Supper Club. The price per person was $75 and we had a ton of food, enough for lots of leftovers. Chef Ray said he'll be switching up free menu monthly. But reservations fill up quickly, so book early. This was such a fun way to enjoy a night out with friends! read more

Had brunch at Wild Rosemary this past Sunday. We sat outside in the patio. The service excellent and so was the food. We had the lemon ricotta pancakes and the breakfast burrito. Both were excellent and nice portions. Potatoes and toast were excellent as well. Only one item was off. They do NOT give a glass of water, you MUST buy bottled water if you would like water with your meal. Also when I asked for jelly for my toast you must buy their homemade blueberry compote. It comes only in a large bowl way too much for a slice of toast. There should be a small offering of the compote for use on bread at an up charge instead of haven't to purchase a bowl. We will go back. It was really good just those 2 items a little out of place for a more upscale 15$ and up breakfast restaurant. read more

Where do I start? The old wild Rosemary, we probably ate there 30 or 40 times. First time at the new wild Rosemary supper club and it was very disappointing. Water glasses were small paper cups. Strange. Napkin's paper. Nobody greeted us. You don't get a menu, which I understood that but food was marginal at best. Our party of 4, 3 of us had pretty serious indigestion I won't get into any further details. It was very robotic, and none of the courses blew us and the noise level now with this even louder than it was when it was the old Wild Rosemary. You can not have a normal conversation. This was one and done for us. We really wanted to love it given how much we enjoyed at the old wild Rosemary, but there is absolutely no comparison. Sad. read more

We celebrated my husband's birthday at their Supper club last night and were blown away by the experience. Every dish was delicious - brussel sprouts, bread, soup, pasta, beef, tiramisu. I appreciated that it was high quality food and preparation, but remained approachable for all palates. We can't wait to go back again and bring friends ! read more

Came for supper club. Stars of the evening were the amuse bouche of whipped blue cheese and sherry marinated mushrooms on crostini. Also the arancini and the osso bucco. Disappointed in the foccacia, tough and stale. Bread has been a staple at the former cafe Raymond in the strip so I'm not sure what happened here. Also disappointed in the BYOB. They do charge a corkage fee. Didn't find this out until presented with the bill. If a restaurant encourages you to bring your own they should also be up front about adding corkage. This was no inexpensive meal. Two people and one bottle of wine. Over 200$. Not sure Id make a return trip read more

Uncomfortable seating, tight area with strangers at the same table, small space, very loud-impossible to talk and relax. Service was okay. Arancini balls were good. The meat dish seemed to be from the pressure cooker without any special flavor. read more
