The gGreen and Gold half arrived without the cheese curds on top but upon immediately notifying the waitress, she had the kitchen make us an entirely new, whole pie! This place impressed the hell out of me! Let me just say I wasn't the biggest fan of the 'za place that was here before and with the new ownership came a whole new way of doing things. First, there was the remodeling. They added a beautiful wood fire grille, which is where all the pizza magic now occurs. Then they purchase, prepare and serve food of the highest quality, which is a fantastic thing. If you're ordering pizza here, they give you a choice of either spelt or regular flour crust and all the ingredients are fresh, delicious and made to order. The pizza we had here consisted of regular flour crust, sausage, green peppers and onions. We also decided to splurge and get a bottle of sangaria which was simply a delicious choice. We had enough to fill our bellies and the few slices of pizza we had left, we took home in a doggy bag and put it in the fridge. The next afternoon I was fiending for a snack and when I looked into the fridge I saw the two pieces of pizza, lying on the shelf, begging for my attention. I decided that was what I wanted to eat and upon taking the first bite, I realized that it was truely a fantastic choice! Cold pizza is always the test for me. Heard a lot about it and I have to say the pizza lives up to the hype, no doubt about that. However, the way the restaurant is ran and set up was a little funky. There was no where to stand or wait when there was a line for a table, which made things awkward as we kept having to move out of the way of people. Could have been a tad more lighting and a couple more heaters. We had a very nice waiter who was efficient and made sure we were happy the whole time. The pizza itself was absolutely delicious. I got the Paisano pizza and I would give it a 7.6/10. That is a very good score for my rankings. read more

What a pleasant surprise this was in Door County. There were four of us who just took a weekend trip to Door County, and one night stumbled upon Wild Tomato and decided to give it a try. They have a lovely outdoor seating area, but to shorten the 40+ minute waiting time, we opted to eat inside. The inside area is very small -- so hopefully they do well enough to expand that. We got the Wood-Fired Bread Basket for an appetizer, which was amazing. There were about five different kinds of bread in it -- all of them delicious. Our main course was three pizzas - the Thai Pie, the Chicken & Choke, and a custom Cheese Pizza with Cheese Curds. All three were among the best pizzas I've had -- and that's saying a lot. The obvious attention that Wild Tomato pays to using fresh, local, sustainable ingredients shows -- everything just comes together to make a superior final product. The service, from the hostess to the waitress to the other staff, were all very friendly and responsive. It was great to see the place so busy -- hopefully they do well and stick around for a long time. In short, one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. read more

Having just driven 5 hours from Chicago, my husband and I were on the hunt for a good lunch spot. I remember reading great reviews on this place so we stalked the place until it opened at 11am. (They probably hate us). As we pulled up I noticed all of the tomato plants growing on the side of the restaurant. Really cool. I decided that I HAD to try the pizza even though my husband decided to go with a veggie burger. I picked out my ingredients: spinach, red bell pepper and sun-dried tomato. Each "gourmet ingredient was $2.50 each. Ouch. When I got the pizza, there were probably 10 pieces of baby spinach, 1/8 of a bell pepper cut up and 3 sun-dried tomatoes. For $2.50 each ingredient, I was thoroughly disappointed with the amount on the pizza. $19 for a small pizza = -1 star My husbands' veggie burger was delicious and I liked how you could pick different side instead of the old fries or chips. He got a side of veggies with hummus. Nice. I almost took away 1 star for the Ed Hardy Sangria. Really? Really. Check out the picture. Barf. 1. Ignore Tom Z's review, he must have stopped at Pizza Hut by mistake. 2. Wild Tomato is fabulous! They have inventive pies with a wide variety of flavors. For those that are less adventurous, build your own pizza to perfection. During the busier times expect to wait at least 30 minutes before being seated, the place is busy and frankly, very small. While others have complained about the tight quarters inside, I would recommend it. You get to catch the staff whipping, flipping, twirling, and whirling the pizza dough (Dinner and a Show!). I was intrigued by cheese curds as a topping, so I went with that and was impressed by how excellent the cheddar complemented the mozzarella and sauce. Ok, writing about this has made me hungry, I gotta go snag a slice I brought home, hang on... Ok, I'm back. Others in our party opted for the Thai Pie and the Chicken and Choke and oohed and aahed over the flavors for the rest of the evening. In terms of appetizers, the bread basket was warm, fresh, and was accompanied by a fabulous vinaigrette. If you love bread, you'll love this basket. The wine drinkers at the table settled for a bottle of Kung Fu Girl Riesling from Washington state (they would do well to feature more Wisconsin wines on their menu--it is Door County for God's sake!) that everyone was thoroughly impressed with. Our server, Brynn, was helpful in explaining their process and options, and took great care of us. We'll definitely be back the next time we're up in DC. Oh, you want to know why after all that praise I didn't give them 5 stars? Two small issues, one minor and one major. Minor: Coordination amongst hostess staff was a little lacking; they are missing out on significant revenue by not having someone take drink orders while waiting 30-45 minutes for a table. Major: The restroom is disgusting. It's tiny, dirty, smelly, with no ventilation outside of a small window. Oh wait, the window was painted shut. Best pizza in Door County. My wife and I continue to return to Wild Tomato because we know what we will get and it is always consistent. We have tried probably 5 different pizzas. Green and Gold is worth a try. Sausage and Pesto will not disappoint. A simple sausage and pepperoni or pepperoni and onion (my wife's favorite) are classics worth your attention. Olivia was our server and she was fantastic! She was energetic and great with kids. Also the majority of the seating is outdoors and quite nice. We enjoyed the bread basket app which with came with yummy breadsticks many different types of cheesy bread and much more along with various types of dipping sauces (balsamic, whipped chèvre, marinara). The energy was loud and fun, it was quite crowded but we did not have to wait. The kids spent some time writing the free post cards which you do not have to stamp and they send for no charge. Gourmet pizza combinations, great beer selection, and really fresh salads. Highly recommend the Cherry Walnut salad and the Wild Pi pizza - super tasty. Like the other reviews, it does get busy and it's worth the wait. Especially if you want to sit in there outdoor eating area. They have an outdoor walk up bar to order drinks while you wait, and a stone sitting area. Only tip, wear mosquito bug spray if you want to sit outside. Really good pizza but also frequently really busy with long waits. Our group of 4, plus a pet, successfully walked in and had table service on a Thursday in the mid afternoon at the Fish Creek location and enjoyed great service and great food. We had the artichoke dip appetizer and the BBQ chicken and the Piasano pizzas and completely enjoyed both. We tried again on mid Saturday afternoon with a group of 6 at the Sisters Bay location and were told that there was a 60 minute wait. So, we drove down to the Fish Creek location and were told that there was a 45 to 60 minute wait, so we gave up and went somewhere else. On Sunday we ordered take out from Fish Creek and completely enjoyed the Deluxe, Paisano, and the Sausage & Pesto (we all ate too much but it was so good. We both enjoyed our meal greatly. Very friendly, during this late afternoon stop, the host having time to banter with us. We ate our meal on a cool Fall day, the outdoors not being an option although the patio area seemed like a good venue. The pizza arrived and it was delectable. The sausage one. Good crust. Wood-fire roasted. The ingredients were fresh and local (I believe local). My partner was happy to give her seal of approval and I am happy that there is now a pizza place that we can go to, knowing we'll both enjoy ourselves. At the end of our meal, at the register was the famous Rice Krispie Treat (I don't know if they call theirs that). We had to give them another try after the Mosquito Fiasco of 2014. We are so glad we did. We went the first week of June, 2015. The weather was good but, we chose to eat inside this time. Seating is limited inside but, there was no wait. Woohoo! When you walk in the door, the first thing you see is the pizza oven. It is seriously cool. The pizza chef is right there as well. Rolling and throwing the dough; it was fun to watch him work. We started with drinks. I had the sangria and it was good. My husband had the Ten Fidy beer and he liked it so much, he's been looking for it at local stores. We ordered the pizza this time and we are so glad we did. We prefer veggies on our pizza. Although jalapeños were not an option, they did have a calabrese pepper and it was just as good. From our table, We could watch the chef make our pizza and see it bake in the oven. When the pizza arrived, it looked so delicious! The crust was charred and blistered. Perfection! We dug in and it tasted as good as it looked. The perfect amount of red sauce, topped with tender veggies and the fresh cheese made all the difference. If you ever get have fresh mozzarella, you won't ever want that bagged, shredded nonsense again. I'm usually a 2 slice kind of girl. I devoured half of that pizza and I'm not the least bit ashamed!
