Went to Thyme for my birthday and loved everything we got! Started with the cheese curds and holy smokes did we get a lot of curds!!! Don't make the mistake we did and get full on the appetizer!! However we have no regrets. Between the 2 items we got, both David and I enjoyed the General Tso's slightly more!! The pasta dish had a slight lemony flavor though which was nice and refreshing tasting. Other than the cheese curds, both our meals felt healthier than the typical version of them. OMG I wish I could eat this meal over and over again!! To start - the whipped ricotta with gluten free bread was absolutely incredible. The warm honey was so very good & I wish I could eat them over & over again. My husband had the 14oz NY strip steak & it was cooked to perfection. He loved the chimichurri sauce & yummy sides. I had the wild mushroom-leek risotto with shrimp which was bursting with flavor. Our waitress was so lovely & did a great job at making us feel taken care of on a busy night. Thyme has delicious food and a lively atmosphere. We had a larger group that they easily accommodated. Service was excellent. We started with the cheese curds and bread baskets, and followed with the Italian tortellini, risotto, pear salad, and a few other dishes. Beginning with the cauliflower appetizer which has an amazing Thai peanut sauce, to the beef short ribs, the food was perfectly prepared and beautifully served. The portion size was perfect even allowing for a box to take home for enjoyment. This was probably our 3rd time eating dinner at Thyme. The first time we went and remembered the Whitefish corn chowder being so good so we tried it again, however it was good but not great this time. Nothing is included with the entrees, so you are paying separately for soup or salad, what is inexcusable is no bread service is offered, if you pay $38 for an entree a piece or two or a small roll should be included. I had the Grouper special it was solid, my off had the baked Salmon with lingonberry sauce, which overpowered the Salmon which was not that great of quality. Service was prompt and the place has a nice atmosphere. The food should be better for the $ they are charging, and they should at least offer a bread service. 3.5 for food, 3 for value, 4 for service and ambience. read more

Amazing place ... a wonderful, modern restaurant; bar that offers sandwiches and small bites, and outdoor seating areas. I have been wanting to go here every time I've passed it and finally did - not to be disappointed! I had the most wonderful salad with perfectly cut julienne pear sticks, door county cherries and pecans, and linguine with sun-dried tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. My friend had sushi and an Asian vegetarian dish. We of course had to share a dessert. Note that the restaurant does not take reservations and the restaurant is not that big. After dinner, we sat outside on Adirondack chairs in front of the fire pit and listened to a live music, then went for a stroll in the garden. We ate here for the first time the other night and were very pleased . While many of the items on the menu sound very spicy, they were able to leave that out for my wife and I . The food was delicious and served very elegantly. The service was friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant is very clean and modern. Quite impressive! The only drawback is that it is extremely loud. You had to shout for the person across from you to hear you. They really need some sort of acoustic baffles. read more

Beautiful space. Started with some wine, some bags, and some time by the fire. Had a fantastic meal. Lemon ricotta spread, cheese curds, and cauliflower for apps. Mains were spare ribs, general tsaos chicken, risotto, and basil pesto along with a plethora of kids meals. All persons were thrilled with their meals. Open for breakfast, so we gave it a try. Jessica, server, was excellent. Very attentive and had a great attitude. It was actually difficult to pick out a dish, so many great offerings. The cook on the dish was just right. Plated well and seasoned perfectly. Glad we gave it a try and will be back to try some of the other offerings. read more

Beautiful space with very friendly staff. We sat out on the patio and though it was a little windy it was still really nice. Folks had the sweet potato hash, avocado toast, and the loaded hash browns. The four star rating is because while the loaded hash browns were really tasty they were a little burnt. We've eaten here before and the food was great. Tonight, we never got that far. We were party of three (two adults and a toddler). After waiting several minutes for the hostess to address us, we were told the wait would be 25 minutes. The couple behind us was then told they could be seated immediately if they would take a high top. We were never given that option. Came with our 3 pretty well behaved kids (seriously, we had 2 other diners compliment us on them this very night!) and had our kids directly scolded 3 times by staff while we were there. This is infinity % more than ever scolded before in a restaurant. And for mild kid like behaviors. Here are the 3 issues that staff snapped at our kids for: 1) my 5 yo daughter had her seat scooted too far away from the table and was apparently in the way of server, 2) my 3 yo son dropped a piece of spaghetti on the grass, and 3) one of my kids and another diner's kid was scolded for laughing too gregariously in an empty room far away from the dining area. It really felt like there was a generalized mandate to make kids seen and not heard as much as possible. Food was great, ambiance was great. We were just really disappointed about the treatment of our kids at 6pm on a Thursday in a family locale like door county. If you do have issues with kid behavior, I would recommend talking to parents directly instead of instructing staff to scold small children. Left a bad taste in my mouth and I will hesitate to go back. read more

My wife and I have been to DC and Sister Bay at least 33 times over the years. First time at Thyme. It will definitely not be our last! Our first experience was with the winery next door. The young lady pouring the wine was an absolute delight! Knowledgeable and fun! I had the Chardonnay, and my wife had the Zinfadel. Delicious! We sat out back, and they had a beautiful fire pit as it was slightly breezy. We had a wonderful time. We've been to the California wine regions many times... I swear it was if we were in Sonoma or Paso Robles! Next was dinner. We had a very knowledgeable server and, again, lots of fun. We started with the whipped honey ricotta, and I also had the beef soup! Which actually was more like beef stew! Incredible! then we split the Mushroom Risotto with added shrimp. Was really delicious. We topped it off with the olive oil and lemon cake. We met the owners afterward. Lovely couple. Very experienced restauraunteurs. I cannot recommend this place enough! this is the third year we have visited this restaurant. I think the key components of importance for a restaurant are food, service, value and knowing how to quote a wait. food...very good service...good value....ok quoting the wait....TERRIBLE this problem has existed each of the 3 times we have eaten there. fool me once........ I guess I haven't learned. I arrived at 6:15 and was told that the wait was 45 minutes. this worked perfectly for our party of 8. At 7 the hostess said they were setting our table. we were finally sat at 7:30.....this was an hour and fifteen min of a wait. We ordered fairly quickly after sitting down....our food came at 8:30!! This food was good, but took longer than expected. I'm not sure why the host told us the table was being set 30 minutes before we were sat. To me honesty is critical. While being sat at or near 7 (as told) was the objective, it would have been a sign of hospitality if we had been offered something. I guess hospitality is not something practiced at this place. If you go..expect to wait longer than told. As they say in baseball...3 strikes and you're out. There are many other restaurants throughout Door County It's too bad!!! read more

Although we have been visiting Door County for years and now have our own place there, we had never been to Thyme until last night. It's a nice space that I can only imagine gets even nicer in the summer with everything opened up. The welcome was friendly, as was the wait staff. Our food was delicious. In particular, my husband chose the salmon which he would tell you is not his favorite fish, but he claimed he could eat Thyme's version every day. I chose the Roasted Tomato Basil Pasta and was very happy. The wine selection was impressive. We both had dessert and I absolutely loved the olive oil lemon cake. My wife and I live in Chicago and visit Door County in the summer. Over the years, we have dined at all of the restaurants in Door County that consistently receive high marks on Yelp and which are reflexively touted by locals and frequent visitors as the tried and true culinary haunts that can't be ignored. While many of these establishments have earned the praise that their loyal following have bestowed upon them, none have provided the unique type of dining and gastronomic experience that Thyme offers. Having grown up in both New York and New Jersey, my palate is as eclectic and unforgiving as the neighborhoods in which I was raised. Ive dined at some of the most notable and expensive restaurants in the world, each of which provides its own unique experience. We had the lemon thyme ricotta dish with toasted bread as a starter. Being part Sicilian, I was extremely impressed by, not only the quality of the ingredients, but the complexity of the overall flavor profile. The dish elevated a simple concept to something of mastery. The chicken Florentine soup was done beautifully and reminded me of my childhood. I had the Cuban sandwich which would make any Cuban proud. My wife had the pecan crusted salmon which was delicious (and this is by someone who hates salmon). I'd be remiss if I failed to mention our server. She was incredibly pleasant, knowledgeable and attentive. The only change that I suggested they make is to remove the salt and pepper shakers from the tables. Any restaurant worth its salt (couldn't pass up on the pun) should not have salt and pepper shakers because the food doesn't need to be tweaked. Simply stated, Thyme is by far the best restaurant in Door County. We couldn't more highly recommend this restaurant and are excited to eat there again. read more
