These are the BEST two sites, there are two more fully facing on the river , but neither have trees on the site. Other than the 4 full facing river sites, the other sites either are not on the river, or only back up to the river, or are at an angle where most of the next site blocks the river view. Our sites (17&18) deserve 10 stars. Friendly staff, quiet place. ONE ISSUE: Laundry. This is not a small RV park, this is not an Overnight RV park. Only 2 of 4 dryers and 2 of 4 washers worked. Another guest told me that management/owners? told him they could not afford to replace the broken machines (Huh??) There were people waiting to use the machines. That's not a fun way to spend a day of our vacation. Surely they can buy new machines! We would definetly return, but only if we could be in Site 18 again (and we'd do a load of laundry before we arrived).

This is the closest park service campground to Salida which makes it super sweet!…read more I reserved site 21 online, which was like $28/night. However, if you just show up, other sites that are available are only $18/night. I wish I would have waited to reserve, but at least you can drive here and know by reserving early that you have a place to sleep! You also need to pay a daily state park fee, unless you have a yearly pass. (this is in addition to the campground fee) Our site was right on the river, and even though this campground is right off the main road into town or into Big Horn Sheep Canyon, when the sun sets, you will not really hear the cars and trucks going by due to the sounds of the river. It was very high when we visited. At night, depending on your site, and if you are in a tent or camper, you may see a bright light shining from a business across the street. Not to worry, as you will still be able to see a night sky of amazingly beautiful stars! It was cool to be hanging out after a long day and see people rafting down the river. The sites are pretty open, and there are only a few with shade. However, there is plenty of parking, and most people were pretty respectful. There are people camping out on the other side of the river, which was a little sketchy and strange. They didn't do anything weird when we were there, but it was a little uncomfortable. However, since I had my dog, and there were other campers nearby, I felt safe. The one recommendation I have is that they use sand or dirt trucked in for their tent pad areas. They currently have gravel! Gravel is useless with a tent, as my tent stakes could not find secure footing in the ground. I then tried to pitch the tent next to the tent pad area in the dirt, and the dirt was rock solid! I then realized why there were so many large stones in the tent pad area. I used these to help my tent stay grounded and upright for the two days and nights we were there. (When we were there, there was a truck coming into the campground area in the morning and dropping off dirt in a big gully. ) The port-a-pots were the cleanest I have ever seen!

The tent pad barely fit our 6 person tent, so keep that in mind if you're camping with family or friends. When the wind blows in from the west, you'll get to enjoy the sickly sweet smell of pit potties. But the biggest problem was the wind. I suspect it's not always this windy, but it was like trying to camp in a wind tunnel. And getting a fire started was a challenge which took three adults blocking the wind just to get it started. Also, we were very concerned about how close the burn pit was to the local plants. There are already several wildfires blazing in CO as I write this, and we didn't want to be the cause of another. This meant we had to extra diligent in watching our fire. A situation that was helped by the fact that the grill grate would lay right on top of the foliage if you let go of it. So if you are just needing a place to sleep, this will work. But if you want a pleasant camping experience, I recommend you look at Hecla Junction Campground or O'Haver Lake Campground

Incuded was shampoo, conditioner, soap, dish soap, coffee, dish rags, kitchen towels, bath towels, wash rags and a swamp cooler for air conditioning. It even had a crock pot as well as your basic pots and pans. Full sized refrigerator with freezer. Stove and oven. The motel rooms were about the same, less the separate bedrooms, kitchen and living space. It also has an outdoor pool and a commons area. The owners, Aaron and Brenda, couldn't have been any nicer or more accommodating. It is right off the highway, easy to find. A stream runs through the back of the property offering a scenic view. Would definitely stay there again.

Via e-mail, we were asked for info about our rig, and sent a link to complete a waiver. The e-mail stated a noon check-in time and had no further info about the check-in process. We provided the rig info and signed the waiver. The day before arriving in August, we were sent numerous text messages about a form, and the need to provide info about our rig. The text messages had check-in as Noon in one sentence, and check-in as 3:30 in another sentence. We called, got a nice person who spoke limited English. We were able to determine that they had received the form, but that they needed our rig information. Provided that again. She told us our site #'s, and said we would get a text with codes and check-in information. On the day of arrival, we got a text with the WIFI password and no further information. When we arrived, we could not find an office or staff. They Info on yelp states that there is a gift shop and boutique on site. That must have been when it was still owned by "Pamela". We finally saw a small sign with the instructions to just go to our site. About 1/2 hour after we arrived, a pleasant person stopped by with her infant to let us know she was the on-site manager, and to give us the code for the dumpster. She provided no further information or assistance. Sites 1-6 are COMPLETELY different than the website photos and the reviews, which were written a few years back when someone named Pamela owned and ran the property. These sites are VERY narrow. It took our friend multiple manipulations to pull in with his 5th wheel. These sites have no room for chairs or tables to sit outside. There was an old picnic table perched on the slope between sites 4 and 5. Significant literal trash at sites 1-4. A dead bird, dead vegetation, sewage pipes without caps, intense sewage smell. Very low water pressure. Unkempt weeds and sticker burr plants at our site, those next to us, and most of the places to walk the dogs. Buildings and grounds were trashy, run-down, dirty. We were traveling through for one night. We would strongly discourage others from staying here.

AND, we reached out to the advertised Colorado RV services to get some work done on our RV. They came by 2 times to meet with us but never gave us an estimate or touched base to schedule the work. We followed up numerous times. Our initial conversation was 7 weeks prior to our scheduled departure. This left a very bad taste in our mouths. Very bad customer service and follow up. We traveled in a 36 foot, class A.

Be aware: There is good, tasty food on-site (breakast, lunch and dinner) and the selection is varied but not elegant! And, there is no other food locations in the area. BYOB and mixers - you can buy ice upon arrival. Finally, get to the Adult Greenhouse before 11am to secure a lounge chair as there is not many. Kudos to all the facility and concession personnel, most of whom live nearby, that do their utmost to ensure that your stay is memorable.
