I have been here for lunch and dinner. I had the vegan nachos. They make theirs with a homemade nacho sauce. Very tasty. The peanut noodles were very rich and delicious. Huge portions. Passing through on vacation - being from Vancouver, WA, right across the river from Portland, OR, we are spoiled back home for choice when it comes to organic and/or vegan options when dining out. My wife and I were very happy to find this little cafe in an area with very limited options for alternative diets. We had the Marvelous Muffin, Wildflower Potatoes, and a pancake with blueberries. They were all delicious! The almond gravy was quite nice, and real maple syrup is a HUGE plus. Operated by personable, friendly staff that are attentive and on top of drink refills. Seeing Portland Ketchup and Aardvark Hot Sauce made us smile and feel like we were closer to home. Highly recommended! Wish we could come back for lunch! I've been here 5 times and I love everything I've tried and I've had something different every time I came! The nachos are amazing. Be sure to ask for jackfruit. I also like extra jalapeños, but the best thing there is the cheese sauce. I might not harm animals, but I'd kill someone for that recipe. Another yummy cheesy dish is the Mac and cheese w/spinach and this season they had crab cakes. Those cakes melt in your mouth, with a crispy texture on the outside. Glorious. Yooooo... I was an avid vegetarian food hater until I came here.. I was like what?!?! No meat ?!? Carnitas tacos made out jack fruit?!?! But this was high key some gas couldn't taste the difference. I hate that this place is so far away from me because I'm craving that tempeh reuben right now. Ugh. My family was up in Trinidad for a little vacation and my boyfriend and I stopped into Wildflower before seeing a movie at that cute theater I forget the name of. We're both vegetarians but I try to eat mostly vegan so we like to seek out the good spots whenever we visit someplace new. So obviously I got the tempeh reuben (made vegan without the cheese) and it was so delicious. The tempeh must have been cooked with some sort of witchcraft, I have no idea how they made it so good. The best thing about this place (and a lot of places in Humboldt!) is that they use locally sourced ingredients, including things you don't usually see made locally like tofu and sauerkraut. Anyway, that sandwich was amazing but even the side salad with it was solid. Tofu tahini dressing? I wish I had the recipe. The boyfriend ordered a super healthy looking salad that I didn't try because it had cheese on it, but he said it was good. It also had the tofu tahini on it. And then there was the freaking massive island mimosa I ordered - woo maybe that influenced how much I enjoyed my meal? Who knows, but it is always a good tactic to get your customers a little buzzed. We came back a few days later to grab smoothies before the first leg of our long drive back down to LA. I forget the name of the smoothie I got but it had turmeric and coconut oil in it and usually had mango but they were out so they subbed strawberries - still good. I think the boyfriend got one called the Emerald and it was also excellent. I wish we'd had time to stop for breakfast because I still regret not trying the vegan biscuits and gravy. Like what? I met two friends here for lunch. Only 1 of us had been here before. She had a favorite that she ordered - a rice and steamed veggie bowl with tahini dressing. It looked wonderful. The other friend had a burger with portebello mushrooms, tofu and condiments -- it looked huge and delicious. I ordered off the breakfast menu, and had a dish with potatoes on the bottom, steamed veggies and an egg over medium on top, and a wonderful almond gravy. So delicious I wanted more!! They both had ice tea, I had decaf coffee which was very tasty. I've been thinking about being more vegetarian, and this restaurant made me happy. It's got vegan options as well (tho I don't think I could give up dairy) The service was quite good, and as I looked around, I could see that everyone seemed pleased with their food. If you like food, this is the place to go!!! You don't have to be vegetarian or vegan to go here. I love meat more that everything, but eating here made me forget that. I had the vegan Mac'n cheese, which was too delicious, and had the orange Italian soda. If I was on a blind taste test and I was given this, I would think it was the best Mac'n cheese in the history of Mac'n cheese. The orange Italian soda was really good. If I would have gotten the whipped cream for .25 cents extra, it would have tasted like an orange cream scicle*. If you get this, please get the whipped cream!!!! One of the best restaurants in Arcata! Something for everyone!

First off, neither my wife or I am vegan. Quite the opposite. But this place came highly recommended from our family, so we thought we'd give it a try one morning after camping. The first things I noticed: the restaurant opened a few minutes late, and the waitress had to come back twice for clarification on our orders (cream in coffee was one, I forget the second) even though there were only two tables of two at the time. Neither of those issues was a huge deal, but neither did they inspire confidence. My wife got (I think) a pesto omelette. I had a bite, and it was pretty good. Maybe 3.5/5. I had the biscuits and gravy. Probably the worst I'd ever had. And sadly that includes biscuits and gravy from the Army chow hall. One of the two biscuits was so hard as to be nearly inedible. I had half of that one, as I was pretty hungry. The second biscuit was better, but that's not saying much. I didn't like the gravy or the fact there were large chunks of nuts in it. On the plus side, the waitress was nice and the coffee was great. read more

Situated at Arcata(highly recommend),a beautiful town south of Trinidad, this quaint little place some very creative dishes to offer. We ordered the Dragon bowl, the Indian bowl and the Cajun burger. Had breakfast here two days in a row during our visit to the north coast. Tofu scramble is fresh and delicious, and the potatoes it came with were spicy. Really liked this place! Very creative, flavorful vegan dishes. Incredible desserts. Had the marvelous muffin and potatoes- the muffin was a little tough to cut through but it was tasty. I probably should have asked for a sharp knife. Also, delicious fresh squeezed orange juice. The other person with me had the french toast and a side of biscuits and gravy which he loved. I'm not the biggest fan of gravy in any dish- so I'd probably order something different next time. The service was good and our server, Feather, was just a delightful person. We got there right as it opened on a Sunday morning and were seated and waited on easily. The only thing I would add is that we were given our check but then waited for quite a while before one of the two servers came to collect it and that was only because we snagged his attention. It didn't inconvenience us really, but, there were several people waiting outside who could have been seated easily 20 minutes earlier. They could use another set of hands busing dishes and doing set-ups and definitely could be a little more organized around the house after food is served. I was so excited to try this place out, as a vegan my options can be somewhat limited at restaurants. I have never had a WORSE experience at any other restaurant- vegan "specialists" or not. First off, the service was really poor. The waitress just seemed to be really p-o-ed and definitely not excited to be working there. That is besides the point though. When I placed my Reuben sandwich order I specifically said I don't want any cheese on it because I am vegan. The waitress even said, "Well do you want the soy cheese?" I replied, "no, no cheese." Crystal clear right? I ate a quarter of the sandwich and my stomach started to hurt so I peeled it open, and there was cheese melted in the sauerkraut. I asked the waitress about it, and she said oh thats the white cheese, its not even the vegan kind. wtf?! I might be able to understand this mistake at another restaurant, but not at a veggie place. read more

The Wildflower Cafe was my formal introduction to the world of restaurants based on vegetarian cuisine, and I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical at first. After having a meal here one evening, in all honesty I was blown away. I had never imagined vegetarian/vegan food as being so flavorful and filling, every dish had me wishing for more. The prices are not cheap but very fair, food delectable, and service enjoyable. Five stars for being able to completely reverse my preconceptions and prejudices of vegetarian food. I'm surprised to even see a single bad review about this place - I have been eating here off and on for eight years and even though it has changed hands once the quality of the food has never been sacrificed. Okay, first off, it's a VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT, so if what you want is animal fat or burgers there are many other options - in fact, every other restaurant in town. but for AMAZING veggie food, you've found the spot. i especially enjoy Eric's Burger - portabello mushroom and grilled tofu. i haven't had a bad breakfast yet, and the green chili cornbread always delights. the staff are friendly and hippie beautiful and the juice bar and baked goods are fabulous. dinner is a bit pricey compared to the breakfast fare, but it's worth it and they set up a nice ambiance as well. read more
