I've lived in the south and know what good BBQ tastes like. This isn't it, but it's not completely awful either and it's convenient enough that we've stopped a few times. Tonight while waiting for our order we saw a woman come in with a dog (in a small bag). No one said a word to her as she stood within a few feet of food and food prep areas. Our order came out as dine-in... we said we'd ordered take-out. Our food was pulled into the back again by a girl with blond hair. She emerged again, without food to wait on the woman with the dog. We waited...waited... and eventually had to get someone to go into the back and find our food (which had now been sitting around for over 5 minutes). I get home and open up my pulled pork sandwich and find an unexpected side of long blond hair wrapped around the coleslaw in the sandwich. I just threw it in the trash and I'm out $9. Note to the owner: Your food is nothing great to begin with, but it would have been nifty if you could keep the dogs out of the restaurant and your workers' hair out of my food. read more

In a region not really known for BBQ, this is fine. I mean that as more of a compliment than it sounds. But while I have had several good meals here, I have not had anything truly special and there are other foods nearby that are truly special (they're just not BBQ). read more

Pretty dreadful food. Even if you're really hankering for barbecue and this is the only place, just figure out something else to eat. The brisket was an unpleasant and dry texture, the ribs seem like they weren't given enough time. The best bite of food I had were the burnt ends, and they were just okay. Yes! Gluten free Barbeque! I love this place and I have eaten here 3 times in the last 2 weeks. Excellent food and the owner checks in on the customers which is really cool. My niece says they have the best baked beans she has ever had and the ribs were excellent. I love that they even have a gluten free roll to go with your meal! They even had gluten free desserts. Love this place and I will be back. Can't wait till they have shepards pie again the description sounded so good. I would love to see even more gluten free choices added to the menu. Went yesterday for the first time; delicious! Jambalaya Rice and Cajun rice were awesome. Ribs were good. Different BBQ sauces: I like them all, specially the Pumpkin and Mustard ones. Desserts: Pumpkin Trifle OMG!!!! Love it. The only thing that I did not like but was not a problem: Not too many chairs. I wait for about 5 minutes for a table because the place was packed. Dropped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon just after opening. The interior is very cool looking and I was immediately impressed. The place looked clean and the service was friendly. Looking at the menu and everything looked appealing, including the nice selection of microbrews on tap. I settled on the brisket with sides of Cajun rice and mac n cheese. The wife had the pulled pork sandwich. You are given a playing card when you order and they call you when your food is ready by what card you have. The food looked great when it came out and couldn't wait to dig in. The verdict. The brisket was dry, lacked any flavor, was grey in color, and tough. See my pic. It almost looked and tasted like it was boiled. It had no bark and no smoke ring or flavor. Each slice was lined with fat along the edges that was hard to trim with plastic cutlery they supply. It definitely needed extra BBQ sauce to get it down. The Mac n cheese was pretty good and the Cajun rice lacked any "Cajun" aspects or heat. My wife's pulled pork was lacking in flavor and not as tender as you'd expect. She enjoyed the bun the pulled pork was served on more than the pork itself. Everything was edible, but really just ok. The beer list surpassed the food as the highlight of the stop. Would I go back? No! When Q Smokin Food is fifteen minutes from my house, and they actually know how to BBQ. read more

I heard this place was better than Bubs but after my visit there last week I'd say they are neck and neck for mediocrity. Ribs are the gold standard of any BBQ joint. Wildwood's ribs had decent smoky flavor that could not overcome their other underwhelming attributes: my half rack was dry and tough. The cornbread had a bitter edge. The bbq beans were tasty, and the mac and cheese was delicious. But the ribs were a major disappointment. Boy I miss Holy Smokes. read more

I've eaten here three times now and I will definitely keep coming. The highlight for me is the tender and tasty pulled pork sandwich (I get it with the coleslaw on the top - yum!). The last time I was in I tried some kind of black and tan beer on draft (I can't remember the name, but it sounded something like scooby do) - it was amazing. I'm very glad this place is around; it adds a much needed cuisine to the area and, in my opinion, they totally pull it off! read more

Waited an hour and a half for our food. People that ordered after received their food before us. Will not be returning to Wildwood. I had the green monstah salad with blacked grilled chicken. Salad was good but chicken was chewy and could not eat it. We did complain, asked several times for food and they did give us a refund. read more

On the verge of giving up eating meat, I decided to make this place my last hurrah, and it did not disappoint. The St. Louis ribs, while not my favorite cut, were excellent. My companion had the burnt tips, which were so smoky they tasted like they had been rolled in ash (that's a good thing). Housemade pickles were sweet and plentiful, cornbread pretty near perfect, excellent assortment of sauces. Carnivores will love it! (Next time I'll try the vegetarian offerings, which I'm pleased they offer). read more

Was really looking forward to trying it and am glad we decided to stop in. Pulled pork was moist and tasty, but it could have been chopped more as I had a couple of bigger chunks in my sandwich that made it hard to eat. The sauces were all delicious; I really loved the peach. The cornbread was fantastic, salad was fresh, cole slaw was yummy, and the desserts we tried were all amazing. Only complaints: kids chicken tenders were pretty greasy (though the flavor of the breading was good), the noise from the kitchen was pretty loud and the counter person was filling up buckets of ice from the soda machine which was quite loud. I guess next time we'll sit at a table away from both. The counter staff was very accommodating to some special requests and were very nice. Oh, and their house-made pickles were yummy too! Overall, I definitely think this is a nice addition to the area dining scene. read more

I've been here 4 times in the past year, so I feel like I can give a representative review. The only reason I'm giving it three stars is because of the wings. They're fantastic. That's where the praise ends. The pulled pork is painfully dry, last time it was like eating twigs. I ordered takeout tonight and checked it before I left.. then asked for a refund. The counter person said "you have to add sauce" - nope it's over cooked! That's like saying grandmas turkey is like sawdust, but if you add gravy it's really good ! The ribs are better, I did taste one before we left and it was seasoned well but not very moist. They definitely didn't last the 15 min ride home, we threw half away. The roasted veggies fell into the same category, they tasted like they were make many hours or days ago and reheated. Flavorful but dry. I'm $85 in the hole from our dinner but wiser. I've searched out/been to some of the best BBQ joints in New England, Wildwood is an example of what most New Englanders have come to expect of BBQ; average at best. My meal: THREE MEATS: Brisket - had the color and texture of day old brisket. It was salty and "wet", not moist. It was also sliced on a deli slicer. Tsk tsk. It was probably yesterdays brisket, thin sliced and warmed up in a pan with some (salty) au jus. You machine slice brisket at a jewish deli, not a BBQ joint. Under the salt it seemed to have good smoke flavor and a nice smoke ring. Probably fresh out of the smoker and hand-sliced properly (3/16"-1/4" thick) this might have been above average for NE. As served though, thumbs down. I fed the rest to my dog in the car. Ribs - Actually very good. A unique blend of wood, not just your straight hickory smoke. I only had 3 in my combo plate, but they were decent. Pulled Pork - no bark chunks, relatively no smoke flavor, wet, mushy. Gross. SIDES: BBQ Beans - look, texture and consistency of dressed up canned beans. Can't say for sure though. They were average at best, certainly edible. Garlic Mashed - Held well, moist with good flavor and a hint of garlic. Very good. Mac & Cheese - Definitely not a Kraft out-of-the-box Mac n' Cheese. I like it when there's a unique blend of cheeses. This has that, an unusual flavor that you don't get many places. that said, the flavor was extremely mild, I had to keep reminding myself I was eating mac n' cheese so my brain could pick out the cheese flavor. The fact that this won a "Advocate Best of the Valley" award saddens me. It just shows how little exposure New Englanders have to really good BBQ. Certainly better than Bub's or Applebee's but a far cry from Good BBQ. Bbq is amazing. The sides all seem old, lacking flavor and just not good. I tried almost all of them. The rice seems Day old and heated up. The salad had wilted leaves. Collard greens have large chunks of tomato in them. This was the most disappointing of all. I love collards and had no idea you could ruin something so perfect and simple. Over hyped place. I have been there three times and every time, mediocre BBQ. I wanted to really love it, but it isn't worth my love. Sure, lots of great beer, but their BBQ is lackluster. I ordered burnt ends. They were cubes of tough, chewy beef that wasn't anything I would ever eat again. The owners should got to a REAL BBQ place to see how it's done. I have been to hundreds of BBQ places all over the country. This one looks great on the surface, but with no real BBQ substance in their meals. If you love dry rubbed St Louis style ribs this is your bbq. The portions were very reasonable. I had the potato salad as a side and it wasn't what I expected but it wasn't horrible either. The free refills on the fountain drinks was welcome after being in the sun all day!! The prices are in line with bbq restaurants in the area and the service was good. There is outdoor picnic tables in a grove of trees for seating in the warmer seasons!! read more

I have been wanting to try their Sunday Buffett for a long time. Unfortunately it was somewhat of a disappointment. Although the flavor was there, everything was cold. Really, everything was cold. Also, the bacon was under cooked. When I asked for some crispy pieces, the man at the station could only find 2 pieces that were fully cooked. I think if they can find a way to keep everything hot and cook their bacon a little more, it would be a huge hit. There was someone outside who asked our review and we let him know the food was tasty but cold. I might try it again in a few months to see if anything has changed. read more

As a transplant from the South, I'm so excited to have good barbeque in New England! The food and atmosphere are about as close as I've come to real southern food here. I like the casual atmosphere and that it really smells like a BBQ place when you walk in. They have a great selection of sides and meats. Love the pork beans and the collards! The pulled meats are a great deal and taste good too. The burgers are spot on. Not too greasy and not dry. Their BBQ sauce bar has some unique and interesting choices along with the staple originals. There's also a decent selection of beers on tap with a lot of local choices. If you're looking for good southern style BBQ without the frills (but still an updated and clean atmosphere with lots of trendy beers), this is a good bet! In the Summer, sitting on the enclosed porch is nice and a little quieter than the main room where you hear kitchen noises. They also have outdoor seating on benches. read more

We lived in North Carolina for 2 years and I'm originally from St. Louis, so know a thing or two about some bbq. The burnt ends are phenomenal, but are in short supply for the day so come early! We also had a combo platter which is a great option because I didn't want to commit to just one!! I love variety and complexity in the sauces. The sangrias are an unexpected delight. About the best barbeque you're going to find in the area. It's very good, generous portions, and very good sides. Bit pricy, but worth it. North Carolina style, so be sure to get extra sauce! I'm from Texas, so I have high standards for BBQ. I've eaten MANY times at Wildwood, and am (almost) always impressed. Excellent ribs, great corn bread, yummy sides (I favor the jambalaya, but my family members prefer the the mac cheese). Their BBQ sauces have too much vineger for my taste, but they still are good. Good selection of beers to go with the food. While I eat meat and gluten, family members and friends are vegetarian or celiac, and they always are very pleased with the food at Wildwood (they are careful to avoid cross contamination and have good gluten free roles). Incredibly efficient curbside pickup...they bring it out in less than a minute after arrival. Super friendly and helpful staff. My only criticisms are that once in a while the corn bread has been underbaked or overbaked (but most of the time it is perfect), and if you come at the end of the day the meat sometimes can be a bit dry. But these problems are rare. read more

This is my second review. My first one gave them five stars. This time I ordered the 2 meats 2 sides. Generous sides and flavorful, (garlic mashed and kicked up baked beans. The two meats were burnt ends delicious but really small portion, ( 5 cubes ) and fried chicken ( again two small dried up pieces). I realize I should have said something but was in a state of shock. My partner ordered the brisket cheese steak sandwich and was very pleased. Will definably return and will speak up if this happens again. read more

Went here because they advertise having specialty diets they can cater to. Ordered a meat and dairy free meal..first they gave us a meat filled dish when we ordered just the rice..then there was cheese in my salad. It's a pricey place with a good reputation so I was expecting more. The server didn't offer any compensation and didn't seem very sorry. I get it's a mostly meat place but don't advertise if you can't follow through. Very frustrating The Barbeque sauces were delicious though. read more

A friend and I were visiting town for interviews and just happened to look out our hotel window to find this gem right next door. The sweet potatoes are the size of your head and loaded with everything a person could want. We also tried the regular and gluten free Mac and cheese and both were excellent.
