We have been taking our dogs for well over 20 years! Yes they are that good. The staff cares about your pet just as much as you do. And are worth the five stars! After reading the other reviews I just had to write ours! Vets are very good with the care that they give to your pet and take great care of them so you have no need to worry. We have been to a few animal hospitals and have spent a bunch of money while being there. But Willard is well worth what you are spending if you really care about your pet. My family has been taking Oscar to Willard since he was adopted more than 15 years ago. (I've been taking him for the past 5 years.) My sisters and I have always found the care and attention here exceptional. We follow their guidelines and recommendations for dietary needs, checkups, tests, medication, and overall care. Everyone has always greeted Oscar by name and cared for him as he has grown a little resistant to blood draws and other invasive tests. Let me preface this review by requesting the reader disregard any and all reviews from people who live outside of the Metro Boston area, the authors of these posts were clearly reviewing the wrong clinic or are sadistic internet maniacs looking to defame & destroy hard working business owners. Further, if you are a psychopath who has "furbabies" and believes your hamster should have constitutional rights then you are deeply disturbed, and should seek psychiatric care immediately. Also if you cant afford the proper care for your animal then you really shouldnt own one! GOOD PRODUCTS/SERVICES COST MONEY! Ok - on to the review, this Vet is the BEST. I moved to another Metro Boston city and continue to come to Willard Vet because the doctors, techs, and admin go ABOVE & BEYOND to accommodated you and your pet. Their scheduling infrastructure sends very convenient reminders and always allows for easy rescheduling. Willard also provides detailed quotes for all your services so I'm never over charged. Even if you don't have an appointment they will take your emergencies calls and guide you through any issues you have with your pet. At the end of the day you want a Vet that lets you leave with peace of mind, this is that doctor. AGAIN, I cant stress Dr. Connelly and her staff enough, I wish I could provide a 10 star rating. They have taken amazing care for my dog and parent's cats. read more

The surgeon dr. Connelly is great but she only comes in to do surgery. The rest of the staff is incompetent and pushy. Example no.1: one of my dogs had UTI. I have had over 100 dogs mostly seniors so I know the signs of UTI. I asked they prescribed amoxicillin but they wouldn't do it without testing. Ok so $270 later they prescribed a very low dose which I challenged but they said that what she needed. UTI didn't go away (as expected) but they would not give larger dose of amoxicillin without further testing so after a total investment of $500 for something I even knew how to treat they prescribed larger dose of amoxicillin which I got at CVS for $8. So something that should cost $8 to fix costed me over $500. Now if I knew it, they knew it but their focus was obviously on making me spend as much money as possible. Example no.2: in April I took one of my dogs for follow up after surgery (again surgeon is great). Follow up visit was not with surgeon (who only does surgery) but the agreement was that follow up visit was included in the $3,000+ I spent for surgery. The bill had visit cost which I challenged and they said that free visit only included the mouth (dogs had teeth pulled out) but they also found ear infection. So I asked if they charged to look in mouth and then they charge again to look in ear. At which point they backed off (not without insisting) and took out the visit charge. Example no.3: in April, when I took one of my dogs, the technician on the phone was looking at charts of my other dogs and said that one of other dogs was due for yearly exam. I asked when she had been visited last and she said August 2020. I pointed out it was only April so she started pushing the rabies vaccination for which the dog was due. So I asked how much would it be for rabies and she said she had to get exam (about $90) plus rabies shot (about $40). And she kept insisting (almost yelling) that I needed to bring her in for annual exam. So I took her to Petco and got rabies shot for $25. And of course every time I spoke to them they wanted to give lots of vaccines which I don't do (only rabies) but they kept insisting. Example no.4: one of my dog has congestive heart failure and is on medication. I asked their opinion and they provided nothing outside all the tests they wanted to do. Clearly no knowledge, just trying to run tests. Fortunately I moved and found the best veterinary care I have ever encountered. It's the Hamilton-Wenham vet clinic. So my dogs are finally in good hands after that horrible 1 year experience at Willard. read more

RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. about 3 times what angell memorial charges. and the vet who would be the one doing the surgery isn't even board certified. OUTRAGEOUS costs, for the estimate they drew up. I have NEVER in my life seen a vet practice charge the amount of money that they do. They don't offer overnight care, but the tech told me today that they have a CAMERA set up in case a pet stays overnight. WHAT?!?! My bad, I suppose for telling them I have pet insurance. Owner wrote me a nasty email when she tried to run a test 2 months before it was due. She was so blunt and had no bedside manner when I left I was almost in tears as she made me feel like a terrible dog owner. I had read up immensely on the condition my dog had and she kept arguing with me about how my facts were wrong. Then printed out some official information regarding the condition that mirrored what I had just said. She basically twisted facts to make herself sound right. Everytime I go in there for something simple like a rabies shot...I leave with a 200 dollar bill. And apparently dogs need bi annual physicals? I've never heard of such a thing... read more

I absolutely love this vet, and am so surprised to see such a low rating. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences here with both the techs and vets we've seen. Yes, their prices are high, but when it comes to my pet I would rather pay for top notch service than budget for something cheaper. I have called numerous times just with questions about if my dog should be seen and have been told what to do over the phone rather than come in for an appointment. If they really did only care about money, they could've easily advised me to come in and collect. However they truly care about the animals they see. The techs all love my dog and always want to make her feel comfortable (she gets very nervous) and have found their care to be excellent. I would recommend this vet to anyone! read more

Don't waste your time or money with Willard. Prices are high and results are abysmal. Went in for a problem with my pet, was given medication for it. Problem didn't go away when the medication was finished, had to go back in for a recheck and another medication. Finished that round of predication and problem didn't go away. Called to speak to the vet and the only way to speak to the vet is to schedule an appointment, why? So they can charge you again. Horrible customer service, the Receptionist Dawn was very unprofessional on the phone and hung up on me twice. The money you pay at Willard is definitely not worth the treatment of your pet or experience. Save your money and go elsewhere! read more

I have brought my cat here for his annual exams twice. The vet techs got a very nervous Boots calm while he got his nails clipped and had his shots. The vet was great. When I questioned the problems with rabies shots in cats, she went though what I could do and my options. She was also great with my cat. Yes it is expensive but hopefully Boots will remain healthy for years to come. If not, then I'll figure that out later. read more

So I have no doubt that Willard Vet Clinic offers extrememly high end care. What I'm beginning to doubt is how much I am willing to pay for veterinary care for my animals. The quote I got to get my puppy neutered was just absurd! So once again, I'll be off to CT for a total of 2 trips that will still, including gas and the procedure, cost me less than it would if I were to walk my dog 2 blocks to this vet to get him neutered. What is it with Vets in the Boston area! I seriously can't believe the prices! For convenience sake, and because I have really enjoyed interacting with everyone I've met there, I will definitely keep this as my "primary" Vet for my pets. Love Willard Vet. One of my two dogs (10 1/2 year old lab named Memphis) has had systemic and horrible allergy issues all her life. Dr. Mcvicker has been an absolute angel over the years. I like all of the doctors but she is the primary vet for Memphis given the allergy issues. Dr. M has been so caring and tried so hard to find the right mix of treatments for my girl. Keeping Memphis (and my other dog) healthy and safe isn't inexpensive but I firmly believe you can't put a price on health - be it human or animal. My other dog is a rescue who is naturally healthy as a horse. They do NOT suggest unnecessary tests or meds for her. They are so good about keeping her calm as she has huge anxiety issues. We just started using Willard in the beginning of 2017 because we were unsatisfied with our previous vet. We typically see Dr. Gravelle and we absolutely love her. Both she and the Tech's are always kind, helpful and they always remembers us. Dr. Gravelle has even made a point to try and combine services for us in order to save us some money when we've needed bloodwork and such. She is so attentive sometimes I feel like we're her only clients. I also love that she speaks French to the dogs while examining them... adorable. We also recently had our 1 yr old dog neutered and a tooth extracted by Dr. Lentini. She did a great job, was very thorough with her post-operative instructions and was very patient answering all of our questions. We have had nothing but positive experiences with this vet over the last year, I am so surprised to see all the negative reviews on here. Maybe they've changed management recently? read more

The doctors, vet techs, and staff are absolutely wonderful at Willard Vet. They truly care about animals and know temperments and are very easy to talk to and clearly explain everything that is happening. I've had the pleasure of bringing all my kitties, from my first outdoor rescue to my little rescue now (Quincy Shelter - awesome cats) and they have all received stellar care. When I recently needed some tests for Soirse, it was clearly explained, as were the results and they even scheduled a times that worked for me (because she's difficult to corral into the carrier, need my husband home to help after work) and followed up with a comprehensive email explaining the results. All the vets there are wonderful, personable and the staff are so good at making the visit as easy as possible for the animals. Over the years, I've seen everyone there! I have to say, addressing the cost issue that everyone seems to articulate about visits - pets are a cost. It's expected. For quality care in a super clean environment and hiring the best staff, the prices are more than fair. They have convenient hours, great parking and an easy to access, immaculate office. To be in the vet business is for the love of animals, One of many things that touched me about the level of caring and compassion in the practice was after my first kitty, Campana passed away (natural causes), they sent the sweetest and most thoughtful card for her. I really appreciated the time that was taken for the personalized note of condolences. The care of my cats has been unparalleled and I highly recommend Willard and will always do so! I am so disappointed that any negative reviews have been removed, likely because of a request by the owner. I don't know if Yelp takes payments from owners or not, but I find it incredibly fishy that every negative review was removed, and only the positive ("They're terribly expensive but worth it") ones remain. My review is not new, but I am looking for a vet and was shocked that Willard Veterinary got such a high score. My dog was not very well treated by the vet, although the techs were wonderful, thus the two stars. When my older dog needed a dental, the vet insisted that she have a whole round of very expensive tests first. We thought that the vet was looking out for the dog, not the wallet. Dog was fine, so she gave a dental cleaning, then decided that the teeth were in very bad shape, so she pulled all the dog's teeth. Why clean the teeth, then when the dog regains consciousness, knock her out again to pull her teeth? The bill had two separate anesthesia charges on it, and when we asked, that's what we were told. Anyway, about a thousand dollars later, we get the dog back from her "simple dental." About a month later, the dog had a stroke and it was obvious she needed euthanasia. I called ahead, and was told to come the next day (!) but I insisted the dog needed to be seen right away. We were told to come in an hour. When I was with another vet, and my other dog needed to be put down, that vet asked for time to clear the waiting room, "because you don't need to see a bunch of puppies right now." Not at Willard Vet -- the waiting room was full, and I needed to sit with a dying dog in my arms for another hour before we were seen. I was sobbing and the dog was screaming in pain the whole time, but that didn't get her any quicker treatment. When we were seen, the vet roughly examined the dog and said that euthanasia was the right thing, but that it needed to be paid in advance. I had to leave my sick dog on the table to go give the secretary a credit card, then wait while she slowly (v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y) punched the number into the machine and waited to make sure the card was good before telling the vet that the card cleared and we could continue. The vet was definitely taken aback when I said I wanted to stay with my dog, and she suggested I just leave her there several times. After hearing my final refusal, she left the room, and the tech prepared the injection and the dog. When all was ready, the vet came back, jabbed the dog, and left. The tech cried with me as I apologized to my dog for her pain, and the tech hugged me until I could control myself enough to drive. I never saw the vet again, although the waiting room was empty. I left without a person at Willard Veterinary saying another word to me. A couple of weeks later, I got a small package of ashes, which did not contain the dog's titanium knee, which my dog had installed years earlier, and which I requested be sent to me. I hate to think what happened to that knee, and can only think the worst, due to the way we had been treated. I now have another dog, and would not take any animal I cared for to Willard Veterinary. Even the folks at VCA showed a whole lot more compassion. I won't make any recommendations, this is just how I was treated with my dying dog. read more

I have been going to Willard Veterinary Clinic, since I moved to Quincy in 2019. The clinic is excellent, and all staff very well informed, as well as patient, accommodating and willing to assist with any of my needs or the needs of my pets. I have two West Highland Terriers- one is a puppy. They always provide print outs of any tests that are done. They have found ways of bundling care and tests so that my expenses are decreased, and with two dogs that is very important! I have had referrals to other specialists at VCA. However, at the top of my list, the veterinarians at the clinic are excellently trained and always provide the best care to my two Westies! I feel I can trust their diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plans. We are headed there today read more

Oh, Willard...where do I start? I understand that when I take my pet to a veterinarian you have to take into consideration that all practices do things different ways. I get that, and I get that some vets will opt to treat something one way while others may take a different approach. Let me jump in first to the assistants that work there - I think that is what they are called - the vet techs? They are wonderful. They are the reason I gave this place any stars at all. Always friendly and caring, seemed to remember us even when we just went in to pick things up, great. PRICES - wow. Never in my life could I really have imagined how high the prices were until I left and went somewhere else and found the prices to be half what I was paying at Willard. The Veterinarians - While they seemed very knowledgeable at the time of service, because I am just a layman and don't know very much about cushings disease, upon leaving and meeting with a different vet, I feel like I was done a huge disservice. I won't get into it but I will say this...GET A SECOND OPINION IF YOUR DOG IS DIAGNOSED WITH SOMETHING SERIOUS. The diagnosis may be correct and the course of treatment wasn't off but according to the new people, I put my dog through several additional tests that were unnecessary because the treatment was getting my dog into the right levels, which I was told it was not. Whatever, like I said, everyone takes a different course of treatment but I feel like my layman status was abused. The bedside manner was not great either. The vet would call and deliver news with a sigh and talked really quietly so would have to ask her to repeat herself constantly. I could never tell if she was giving me good news or bad news and she would just give me two options of treatment and not say which was better or recommended just that they were the options. I have said enough. I want to just state again that the staff was very nice. But at what cost? read more

My family has been a client of Willard Vet for many years and we have recently pulled all of our dogs from this clinic. While, the experience of the veterinarians and the quality of care is great, Willard Vet's prices and their billing practices are out of control. I have pet insurance, and even for the Boston area, their charges are sometimes 50% to 75% MORE thans the "reasonable and customary ." This is really 3 1/2 stars. I really like it here even though they changed buliding and I accidently walked my cats in to a dentist office, it's not easy to pay attention with 2 howling cats. I do like the fact they have a great location, good parking, staff is super friendly, and the place is super clean. Also it seems that they have all the latest technology to take care of anyones loving little fur baby. Which is why I am sure its sooo expensive. 300$ for 2 cats. The MSPCA in Boston has clinics for free distemperment and rabies shots I think I will get that next year. I love my cats to death but they need to get jobs if the bills will be that much! read more

I had an excellent experience with this vet clinic. My senior dog has been very stressed from a move across the country and the clinic staff (office staff and vet techs) and Dr. Sarah Lentini did a FANTASTIC job of handling and assessing my dog's current state of health as well as providing encouragement and guidance for me in dealing with how to get him more stabilized in a new environment. I received three informative and very nice followup calls over the next 2 days with additional information about the dog's health based on tests that they had given him (my dog has several health issues as he is 15 yrs old). Their hours are well extended for all sorts of work schedules. I thought the prices at this clinic were VERY reasonable based on my experience with several pets that have been treated over several years for all sorts of issues in other places we've lived. I have no doubt of the quality of care here...it's very good. The facility is very modern and well equipped, etc...The staff has always been uniformly good as well. However, the fees charged here seem out of line compared to other places in the area. The "last straw" was when we brought our dog in who was sick they took a temp, looked at her gums checking for anemia and referred us to the emergency animal clinic...after charging the rather high (80 dollar) office visit. That was a bit much for me. Also I must say that previous to that visit, I was tired of bringing the dog in for her check ups/vaccinations and *always* being almost interrogated about her size/weight. Our dog is very "hyperactive" and is thin but of a stable weight, and healthy (until very recently diagnosed w/ immune mediated anemia.) I appreciate the concern, but all one would need to do is look at her medical record and look at previous visits and see this was not a new issue, no drastic changes etc...So after she received this new diagnosis, which will mean frequent vet checks, lab work, we decided to change vets...and have been very happy. read more

There we stood, 9:00 am after a sleepless night, me and my husband, who was holding my hurt 12lb. dog who had been viciously attacked by a much larger dog the night before. We didn't have "an appointment" but went to the only place we knew, our vet. After ignoring us for so long that the customer they were helping ( the ONLY other person in the room, and NO animals at that time) finally nervously suggested that they help us, she could wait. From across the room, a good 20 feet, a "tech" called out, and I wish I was making this up, "do you have an appt"? Well, we said no, so we were shown the door. Fully booked, you see. No actual vet ever talked to us, worse, no one there EVER even looked at our dog. A simple, "go to the hospital",nothing. We got no advice, nowhere to turn, even though they had made it abundantly clear that THEY would not help. At this juncture, any simple act of kindness would have meant a lot. These people are jaded beyond belief. They very clearly don't care about the animals they see. There is no veering from "the schedule", it's obvious and shameful. I almost feel dirty that I ever entrusted our beloved dog to them. read more

Staff was nice but way too pushy to get extras for my puppy. They call it prescription meds that my puppy needed. Didn't even giving me an option if I wanted tick and flea meds. I'm not stupid so I declined. So they tried to say my dog has some bacteria that needed more meds. I wasn't even told what she had or anything. It's just they want me to pick up more meds. I'm like wth!!! Again?!!?!? Can you please show me the stool test results or something to show me my puppy is sick? She had no symptoms and was fine. My puppy is still fine even after they tried to say she might get sick and have diarrhea etc etc. I'm sorry but don't play me like a fool and try to take my money. And yes they are pricy. I didn't mind if they treat me and my puppy with some respect and not an atm that they can try to steal from. Stop being so money hungry. The 2 star is for the staff. Can't blame them. I've decided to adopt a stray kitten, but saw a crack on her paw. I thought it was a wound so I decided to take her into this vet since it was close by. They did a quick examination, saw she had ear mites, and just glanced at the paw. Nothing special happened, would've expected around a $60 overall fee for their time, however they dropped in multiple charges. A small flee cleansing sample, that they'll "throw it in" along with ear mite medicine, and small canister of cleaning wipes. Naively, I just accepted it when they were telling me about it and then they gave me a bill for $200. Not only they didn't tell me the exact prices for everything while explaining, the paw ended up having no issue what so ever - even without me using the wipes! Plus, ear mite medicine is only $20 at any pet store you can go to. I can only say, that this seems like going towards a car repair shop, and they'll try their best to bull shit you into spending more. read more
