We drove 40 minutes from Tampa to Clearwater just for this, and it was worth the trip! The afternoon tea cost about $30 each. We got sandwiches, scone, desert chocolates, and a pot of tea (each of us had a pot). Everything is delicious! We also received 20% off of everything else because of the afternoon tea. I don't even know where to start with these chocolates, but perhaps I'll lead with William Dean Chocolates' gorgeous good looks. It's hard to get past the gorgeousness of these chocolate treats: they are painted and pretty...each flavor boasting a different shape and design. They're pretty much like receiving a jewelry box of candy. They're almost too pretty to touch. Almost... There are so many different flavors to choose from, and many of them are unique! One I sampled contains lemongrass (so interesting!), for example. And another? Apple pie! I was amazed at how much it REALLY DID taste like apple pie: I'm a fan! However, you still get some classic flavor combinations, like chocolate and coconut, chocolate and coffee, etc. - you can't go wrong. The chocolates have a crisp exterior but creamy and smooth interiors; I love the texture and the decadence of them. They're beautiful little indulgences with pops of delicious flavor. I'm not sure if this is a chocolate shop or an art gallery? I happened to see it one day in my adventures in roaming in Clearwater and stopped in. First this is dangerous for me because I am a diabetic and this place will put you in a coma. The chocolate is not your typical candy this is artsy and high class taste. It is very rich which again very bad for me. I couldn't help myself just this once. I didn't try the gelato, I was already on a sugar rush. This is like having a gourmet chocolate shop right here at home and you didn't need to fly to Switzerland. I just wish I could eat more of this decadence. read more

I have to state that I have only been to the International Mall location, which is right outside of Neiman Marcus. I went at around 7pm a week before Christmas, so I knew full well that most likely I wouldn't have the biggest selection. When I got there the store is on the small side but very clean and brightly lit. I liked that it isn't overcrowded with displays, like the Godiva shop is. I was greeted nicely and told they would be with me in a moment as they were helping another customer. When it was my turn I chose to buy a 10 piece box as a gift a two pieces for myself to try. What can I say the chocolates are beautiful. They just looked so pretty. As for the taste they are amazing, the combination of flavors are just great. I have been to chocolate shops in Switzerland and these are just as good and easier to get :) The girl helping me was very nice and helpful. She was able to help me pick out the last of the flavors and she was even nice enough to tell me that if I wanted to come back the next morning they would have more of an assortment (I couldn't come back but I'll def be back for myself). I would definitely recommend these chocolates as a nice gift for someone who loves chocolate. They boxes they come in are very nice and just opening it up to the pretty designs makes it look even more decadent. read more

WONDERFUL!!! My now fiance, brought these to me on our first date. When I first saw them I couldn't get over how beautifully crafted they were. But then I tried them, we actually split the first one, and fell absolutely in love. First with the chocolates and later with my fiance!! We both loved them so much we're having them at our wedding next year as favors for our guests. It's been great working with Bill, the owner, too! The fact that he has such a hands on approach with his customers regarding his chocolates really speaks volumes. I can't say enough good things about them. Delicious gekato. Creamy, rich, and made on site. I live the unique flavors, like the rose water. I tried the lavender and port chocolates. Port was delicious and I could taste the fig. The lavander slightly disappointed me. It's was a gorgeous purple butterfly shaped chocolate but the lavander flavor wasn't as prominent as I would have preferred. read more

I went here for the 1st time to buy some Easter candy. For some reason i was totally ignored at checkout with the cashier taking care of the person in back of me. They then took care of another person who just got in line. I asked if i was invisible and when they finally took my order the cashier was snotty and rude making a comment about me being invisible. After receiving a box of chocolates from William Dean as a gift a few years ago, it has become my go-to place for a unique but delicious gifts. The chocolates and macaroons are beautiful, hand made, and never fail to delight. Some of the flavors are a little wonky, I didn't really like the Mexican Mango, and anything with coffee is strong so make sure to follow up with something sweeter. My hands-down favorite is the salted caramel chocolate and I challenge anyone to find a better piece of candy. Creme brulee, strawberry caramel, and dulce de lece are also popular among myself and family. You can purchase beautiful and sturdy gift boxes for an additional fee but it isn't necessary, as they will wrap them for you for free if you ask. The staff is always very friendly and will help with selecting the perfect chocolate. read more

I have not been in to the store, but have purchased the chocolates, and I have to say they are seriously THE BEST chocolates I have ever, ever had. The flavors are all fantastic. They truly taste like what they are. My favorite are the peanut butter ones, because I am a peanut butter fan, but I really love all of them. I wish I lived closer, I would stop in all the time! A Groupon deal brought this place to my attention. Though I did not buy the deal I was determined to visit based on the reviews I've read and the pictures of their creation that I've seen online. Boy am I glad I went. The pictures do not do justice just how beautiful and artistic the chocolates they made were. Small wonder that their creation was featured in the Hunger Games movie. They were not only beautiful but were very, very good as well. We got salted caramel, peanut butter crunch, key lime, crème brulee, and many others that I can't remember any more. We got about 15 pieces. They are pretty pricey but I think it's worth it. My favorites are the salted caramel and key lime. We got some gelato to enjoy in the premises, loved that as well. We also got a lemon tart to go, that did not disappoint either. They have high tea here which I thought would be a fun experience. Maybe I can try that when I visit with my mom. Who would have thought that a chocolate store would be crowded on a warm day in Florida, a week after Valentine's Day? Not I, but such was the case with William Dean Chocolates of Belleair Bluffs. It was our first visit and I was extremely impressed. For many years we've been a Godiva Chocolate family and I assumed this place would be just like Godiva. I was wrong. This place is similar, but with a lot more wow factor and other delectable delights! It took just one look at the display cases to make me feel like I was looking at the baby of Charlie's Chocolate Factory and Godiva Chocolate! I was pleasantly surprised by the vibrant multi-colored chocolates, with the flavors of the Islands, as well as flavors influenced by Great Britain, and also the traditional flavors we all love. William Dean also offers artisanal pastries and home made gelato. Those items looked scrumptious, but for my first visit, I was intent on buying only a box of hand-selected chocolates. There is a very large selection from which to choose, and I sampled a creme brûlée immediately. It was heavenly -- divine. What I liked most was that the chocolate wasn't overly sweet. It had the perfect blend of chocolate and creme. The chocolate pieces are truly works of art. They range from the most elegant looking to the whimsical looking. This is definitely the place to go if you need a unique food gift for any chocolate lover. The beauty and uniqueness of the product, as well as the dreamy taste of the various pieces, cannot be beat. Recipients will be talking about these chocolates for ages. While there, I got the impression that the other customers were repeats because they knew exactly what they wanted, plus they purchased gelato to eat in the moment. Haven't had a chance to present my husband with the chocolates as of yet so I can't rate the quality. However, even if they were the "best thing that I ever ate", I still would not go back. I'm not sure why but I was treated like I had some contagious disease and they couldn't get me out of there fast enough. There were several other people in at the same time that I was and they (mostly men) were treated very well. The short lady with the short-short hair needs to be out of the public, was actually mean to me. Customer service skills are not only vacant but I do not appreciate the eye rolls, huffy demeanor and an attitude that I am inconveniencing them. Stuffy, snooty, not nice people. I will continue to order from my hometown shop and pay for shipping, I don't need to pay to be treated like garbage. read more

I drove place this place a million times. Wish I would have stopped sooner! We finally went there after dinner last week. We walked in and the lady greater us. I was a little I overwhelmed because the place was different than I thought. I said give me a second while I look. She was so nice. She gave us free gelato samples. All were so good! She then gave us a free macaroon. Never had one before and they are yummy. They were having a class in the back and a guy came out and gave us a handful of free chocolate samples! Great experience. My husband purchased the 5 piece Signature Box when he visited Florida recently. He gave it to me as a little surprise gift when he returned home. I was delighted, because I love chocolate. When I opened the box, I was even more pleased. The 5 pieces of candy were all different and decorated beautifully. The only problem was the taste. The chocolate had a weird, waxy taste. I must admit, I was disappointed. I gave them 3 stars because they are pretty, but the flavor is lacking. read more

I took my mom and sister for the Afternoon Tea. It was wonderful! The food was delicious. Everything from the sandwiches and scones to the desserts/pastries was fantastic. We were served three different types of scones, four different types of sandwiches, and five different desserts/pastries. All the foods are served in just the right size portions so you can eat everything without feeling like you're overdoing it. The tea menu is incredibly extensive. There were so many different kinds of tea to choose from. We each picked a different tea so we could taste three different kinds. All three were yummy. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They were very attentive and checked on us many times to see if we needed anything. Bill, the owner and chocolatier, was also there for a while and we were able to chat with him about truffles and about a recent chocolate competition he'd participated in. He has a great personality and was super-friendly. The whole thing made for the perfect "ladies' day out.". We'll absolutely do this again next time my sister is in town. read more

William Dean has some fabulous confections. I love the perfect little macarons that come in a wide variety of flavors and their truffles are perfection, with the chocolate nicely tempered. We stopped in for a gelato, which was great, but once I saw the chocolate display case, we had to get some. The chocolates are really good, but they are each an individual piece of art that you stick in your mouth. If you buy a chocolate bar in the grocery store line, don't bother. My boyfriend and I took a day trip to William Deans for their special tea for two. It was amazing! The tea is made locally in Tampa and it was so delicious! We were served an assortment of handmade sandwiches, scones and (the best part) dessert! Everything is handmade in the store and is packed with amazing flavor. I plan an annual corporate event every February that brings about 30-40 people from all over the U.S. to St. Petersburg, Florida. It is a corporate event in the healthcare industry, so it typically pretty dry and boring. Each year, we search for unique local businesses to include their products in the event SWAG bags.
