This Williams-Sonoma is one of the smaller WS loctions we've been to, as it has a very limited selection of home furnishings and decorative accessories. However, if one is looking for premium small kitchen appliances, cookware, tableware, or unique kitchen aids, they have a good selection to choose from. There is a large selection of select sauces, spices and many other sundries, as well as first-rate goumet foods & seasonal treats like chocolates, cheeses, cookies and many unique items. In-store shopping is the best way to ascertain the quality of any given item. The friendly and knowledgeable staff are attentive and helpful. Our conversations with them have been educational and informative, as they know the products they are selling. On-street parking can be difficult, however there is a parking garage one block away on Palm Street. read more

Stopped by Friday 6/19/26 around 7:30 pm. Noticed beautiful lemon decor and mentioned to a lady who worked there I just had a party with the theme. She was just rude. Looking at tablecloth/ plate holders etc in a basket and she pulled it from me while I was looking at it to but items in it. Ok, so I just walked away. Was looking at specialty items and a lady @ the register with short blonde hair gave me the dirtiest look to which neither women working there even asked me if I needed anything or my exsistence at all. Well, unless you want to pull a basket away while I'm looking at the items inside. I just politely left and will shop and spend my money who is just as green as others elsewhere. Bad experience and lots of competition out there. So...off I go. read more

Horrible customer service. We had an online order confirmed through email, then found out they didn't have it in stock when we trekked down to the store. All we got was "eh, we don't have it." Seems like this happens a lot and it sure seems like they don't care. read more

I always think that someday I'll be able to afford to shop here, but that day has long eluded me. I usually wind up going to the Primm Williams-Sonoma store on the way to Las Vegas, which seems to match my budget, They do have luxurious kitchen items that speak to the erstwhile chef dormant within me. The prices for these items just seems to be constantly out of reach. I'm no kitchen slacker either. I have a red oven imported from Italy that was painted at the Ferrari factory! But somehow I can't justify paying a 10th of the cost of that oven for a single pot. I do browse the clearance section and admire the displays, and have gotten wedding presents and gifts here. Maybe the lackadaisical attitude of the staff affects my judgment. On a recent visit, I got an absentminded hello, but only after I had reached the back of the store. They do have events and cooking classes, and here in a town with thousands of college students, that could be the way to create a more down home atmosphere! I've been in here several times and this is one store I really enjoy strolling around looking, it always has nice items to look at and it's always very interesting on how they set up items. Before covid they always had something yummy going on, but even today they had some nice looking goodies to look at. Customer service is beyond excellent, even over the phone they do their best to make the customer happy. I was very fortunate to pick a box of Williams Sonoma Peppermint Bark and my wife couldn't resist and broke it open and gave me a piece. I was shocked, I said is this what its suppose to taste like! I've been around for 60 years and it never tasted like this. You actually get the taste of chocolate and peppermint. I found my next new sweet and can't wait for my next bite. Okay, if your visiting San Luis Obispo and your walking on Monterey Street, you need to visit Williams Sonoma and get experienced. read more

I was gifted a breville expresso machine for my birthday that was purchased at Williams - Sonoma. Well this expresso machine was giving me troubles and the grinder failed. I was not happy with the purchase that was gifted to me. We tried returning it under the 30 days and they refused to return it. Long story short, don't buy here. Bad customer service. It was a challenge but they finally returned after I physically showed them the grinder failed. read more

If you are into cooking, this is the store to browse in. They do have clearance selections in the back. The staff here has always been friendly & helpful to me. They did point out a very useful recent almost half-priced sale on the Breville "The One Precision Poacher" [Eggspert] which also doubles as a non-stick Sous Vide machine where you can even cook without a plastic bag, if you fill it up to the thermocouple with water or broth [note: using anything other than water is not recommended by the manufacturer} . I use it extensively for doing "Sous Vide" eggs or sub- poaching eggs in their shell, for easy to digest eggs using the Eggspert setting. After finding out about this sale, I went on-line to order one for a relative, who seems to often over-cook eggs, so that even the sulfur ring comes out! This Breville was pricey at the original price of over $200, but when on-sale, it is a bargain at around $110 or so. Thanks Williams-Sonoma! The staff there also has/uses two Breville very pricey temperature control induction cookers that they use day after day. They speak highly of the device, which costs close to $2k & is more for heavy commercial purposes. While I have bought various far cheaper copies, I rarely use them, due to the hassle factor. I hope that Breville can soon make a cheap companion to their Eggspert in an induction system. I think that Breville & WS have some sort of partnership going on here....so I am hopeful. Since we live in an isolated area, that is devoid of most high end shops, it is so nice to have a B&M shop to really see their wares. I think you can also make returns here from products that you buy on-line. The on-line store has a far bigger selection. In the past, I find that returns have been easy. While much of their prices are ridiculous, you can sometimes find some better deals....like a current sale on made in Germany Chantal enamelware. I found them on sale at WS after paying double on Ebay! While most of their discounts are not so amazing, you can miss out on deals that beat either Ebay or BB&B...even with the 20% off coupon. WS also now has their own line of some products, which some are just knock off crap...but some is decent. While we love the beauty & utility of French made heavy enameled cast iron pots [we have various shapes including a huge Tomato, a Red Pepper, a Pumpkin, a Lavender Heart, as well as, less decorative items], I rarely found good deals at WS. I have found good deals on the Bay for grade B items. You can also find some of their WS Home products on sale in the back. Again, even with a discount, they are pricey. With the recent demise of the Thomas Hill restaurant that was upstairs, it is questionable whether WS can continue to pay the crazed rents in the downtown SLO area....so enjoy the store while it lasts. Every time I have shopped the downtown SLO location, the ladies working are incredibly pompous and very clearly seem to believe they are better than you (despite the fact that they are in their 60s working a minimum wage job). I was in the store for 20 minutes today looking to buy my Thanksgiving dinnerware set, and nobody asked if I needed help-- they had no problem watching me out of the corner of their eyes though. When an older couple walked in, several employees asked if they needed help finding anything. I even stood at the counter where two employees were standing and still nobody said a word. Sadly this is not the first time this has happened. These ladies clearly only greet people they think will spend more money (I guess if you're young they assume you don't have money?). Several other reviews reflect this terrible customer service. Management would be wise to reconsider the type of person they hire. read more

Great products but horrible customer service. I was visiting San Luis Obispo for the first time and decided to visit Williams-Sonoma since I needed to purchase a couple of pans that I needed. An employee was assisting me but she spoke to me in a very belittling, condescending tone as if I was a child who lacked any knowledge about their products. I was very close to buying a set of pans, but her in-genuine attitude and demeanor drove me away from the store empty-handed. A well stocked Williams Sonoma location but unfortunately harbors rude inefficient staff. This store is tucked away on a sweet calm street near other luxury stores. I was not greeted on my way in I actually had to say hi how are you to an employee as they were just rudely pretending I wasn't there even after they locked eyes with me. They did however greet other patrons who were Caucasian -can't help but think it was a race thing since I walked in smiling and very warm. A super basic welcome is more than just a part of Williams Sonoma's brand it's just called being a good citizen, but I digress. The actual products in the store was nice I mean it is Williams Sonoma, as mentioned earlier very well stocked. No matter how well stocked a place is if there are zero helpful employees guess what the merchandise will just be stagnant. I was ready to purchase some Le creuset to add to my collection.. since no one was interested in helping I just purchased through LC's website. Aesthetically the store looks good and gets a 5 star, but the employees need MAJOR training and just basic manners and just earned a pathetic two stars. I really hope and pray the management reads these reviews because it is such a wonderful location it really is the employees that just make it so horrible. My fiancé and I were shopping around and decided to check the store out knowing it's an expensive store and we don't shop here often. The employees were amazing that where making pizza at the moment and gave us slices and it was amazing!! They were also demoing their coffee machines and we got an espresso and it was super good!!! If you enjoy cooking or being in the kitchen, the appliances and kitchen accoutrements that you can purchase here will enhance your in-home experience. Today I went with family to what was supposed to be a cooking class for Thanksgiving meal. When I arrived at 5:30 1 hr before class was to start. I was told the class was canceled. I tried to get some answers and the two women that were working were not helpful at all. They were told the guy canceled late but there was no phone call. The young lady that was trying to help could not get any answers therefore she had to go to the back and ask the manager. She felt very bad for us because we were not notified. The manager did not even come out to talk to us in person. Which was rude!! I would much rather shop in Fresno or Santa Barbara. It's a shame. Please get it together San Luis!!!! read more

I've shopped at this store several times. I've always enjoyed my experience and the customer service has always been great. The employees in the past have always been polite, friendly and helpful. Yesterday late afternoon when I went in there Karen was the one helping me. Or should I say the one that I bothered. She was rude and unfriendly. If it wasn't for the fact I was buying a Christmas gift and it's so close to Christmas I would have just left without buying anything. Surprised by the negative reviews for this location! We came in on a Tuesday afternoon in search of public restrooms, and grabbed a small trinket as a gift while we were there. There are plenty of decorative finds in addition to your standard kitchen wares. The ladies on staff were nothing but accommodating and friendly, and struck a good balance between helpful & unobtrusive. And as for the bathrooms? They're so nice I could hang out and read a book in there. read more

Great products, but spotty on costumer service. I know the quality of products are good and usually at a higher cost than other stores, but this store is not as warm and inviting as other stores. No welcoming in the store. One person working out of 4 was warm and helpful. The cash register person was not that helpful and not nice in the slightest. The manager (or person we assume was the manager) was being quite firm and borderline rude about not being able to return food. While the store is well stocked, nicely merchandised and very appealing my customer service was the worst in recent memory. Once I'd made my selection and approached the check out area it took no exaggeration 5 minutes to be waited on. This isn't an estimation. I was parked at a 30 minutes parking space so I'd turn on my stopwatch to make sure I didn't get a ticket. There were only 3 other patrons in the store and two employees said someone would be right with me even thought I was never sure what it was that they were doing that kept them from helping me. At one point I hear one of them radio for help from the back. Then when the original employee finally came to process my transaction it took 7 1/2 minutes due to computer problems that she stated had been going on all day. Finally I asked if a cash transaction might be easier and was finally able to check out but not until she had to redo the transaction as she had charged me twice for one of the two items I was purchasing. The employee did apologize the inconvenience and was very pleasant but I left feeling quite frustrated. I will certainly give them another try as everyone can have a bad day and I have no way of knowing what might have been going on behind the scenes but even though their selection might be better than the locally owned Forden's across the street I will definitely support our local business and go there first. read more

This low review has nothing to do with William Sonoma products, they get a 5 star. BUT this specific SLO location has the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. The poor ladies on the floor know very little, if anything at all, about the inventory. And when they ask the manager, it does no help. Heaven forbid you bring a gift card to pay, it took 4 employees and 25 minutes to figure out what to do with it. I will continue to shop online but will not be back in this store until they get a new manager who knows how to train employees. read more

I love their products. But as far as customer they get an "F" the only reason they get two stars is because one of the employees, I went searching for actually got me an item for me. I walk in I had an exchange for a different item , when I walk up to ask one of their associates how do I exchange, she looked at me if as if I was bothering her and pointed to the Register. I go to the register and the lady there did not outdo her in her customer service skills. Not sure what these people think their job is !?$& if they do not like working in a public setting work away from people . Customer service makes sales happen. I supposed that's not their motto .
