Addendum to my previous review-- I meant to say that the potato salad & bbq sauce was ok. But everything else was great!

I visited this location today and ordered a two meat plate with chicken and sausage. The two meat plate comes with beans, potato salad, pickles, onions, two slices of white bread and saltine crackers. After my party of four and I arrived, we received our food within 6 minutes from order to table. The sausage was flavorful, however the chicken was a bit dry. The chicken was served cut up in pieces which was surprising as chicken when barbecued tends to be served whole, perhaps this is explains some of the dryness of the chicken. The owner was the individual who served my parties plates when they were ready. Both the owner and the cashier were helpful and served up a whole bunch of southern charm.

    NACHO! Ribbs and sausage.

Food was Good. The sausage was delicious. Ribs were a little salty, but very soft! What threw me over the top was the service. Steve, Rosanne and the crew were wonderful! If we end up in Austin, and hanker for a hunk of meat, this will be the place.

    boudin!

I've been here once, but one thing will bring me back. Is it the brisket? Not so much. I've had much better. The beans? Eh. The sauce? I'd rather not. The atmosphere and locale are a little off putting. That said, the service was pretty nice. I also did discover that Big Red is the best stuff to drink with barbecue because I drank it too fast and the burp that erupted tasted of awesome. The one thing that will bring me back to Willie's is the boudin. It was one of the most surprising discoveries I've ever had. The combination of rice, sausage, and cajun spices is perfect. This was the first time I've had boudin and I've seriously been missing out all of these years. I'll definitely come back to Willie's for this.

I was going to try the BBQ trailer just a couple blocks down but, they were closed so, I saw this place and stopped in. To be fair I wish I could give it 3.5 stars but, I can't justify a full 4. I felt that it was a little on the high end price wise for what you received. All right time to break down my entire plate. I ordered the 2 meat plate with brisket and sausage for $11.50. It also came with potato salad, baked beans, bread, saltines, pickles and onions. Brisket: The smoke flavor and smoke rim on it was very impressive. As I type this the smokey flavor is still lingering in my mouth! However, the brisket was very fatty and I like fatty cuts but, this wasn't as good as others that I have had. It seemed that each bite was different than the last. Sausage: Once again the smoke flavor of the meat was very impressive. I would come back here to order the sausage again. It really was a great quality. The BBQ: It wasn't thick and was a bit on the runny side but, it sure packed a Texas sized spicy flavor to it. I felt it complimented everything really well! Yummy! Potato Salad: This was my least favorite part of the meal. First let me say that I prefer traditional potato salad to mustard potato salad. This was mustard potato salad and it also had sweet relish in it (I think). Overall, it was just not good but, then again I don't like sweet pickles or relish either. Baked Beans: I am not a huge fan of the baked beans in general but, I have to say they were definitely homemade and they were good. I ate a few bites just to try them! Fixins: My meal came with 3.5 pickles and one sliver of onion. Booo! Come on I think we can throw a few more on! They did give me 3 slices of bread but, personally I never use the bread. Beverage Fridge: They have Sunkist and 7 Up in glass bottles!!!! Wooohooo! Not too shabby! Service: The service was fast and it is only counter service. They do have tables inside but, I just ordered take out. I believe this may have been the family that owns the place working there but, not sure. They gave me ample napkins and silverware so, it's nice to see that they don't forget anything. Parking: Sort of a nightmare since there is a convenience store attached to it. I am pretty sure that I parked illegally however, I was in and out. It was easy to get in and out of the parking lot here though; not too much traffic. Neighborhood: Not that great and I did see a man pushing a lawn mower down the sidewalk. Sort of the same principal of knowing you are in a bad neighborhood by how many abandoned shopping carts their are! Come during the day!

We were planning to try one of each taco but they had already run out of the pulled pork. They wrapped each taco individually in aluminum foil to keep it warm which was a nice touch, though they didn't bring out the red and green sauces until we asked for them. Brisket Taco ($9): The brisket was a bit dry but the slice was pretty thick and it paired well with the acidity of the pickles. Carne G Taco ($6): Super cheesy and heavy. The flavors weren't bad but I felt pretty gross after eating one and it left me really bloated.

When I tell you these ribs were a religious experience I am not embellishing. Full disclosure: I do not currently live in the south so I don't consider myself a BBQ connoisseur, but I did spend 4 years in the south and have sampled many BBQ joints in the meantime. Take this review as someone who really enjoys BBQ (and any slow cooked meat for that matter) but who could not list more than 10 BBQ restaurants they have eaten at in the last 5 years. So the beef ribs. Great texture, tender meat but still had a bite to it. Expertly seasoned so they were not wet with sauce but still moist. I would consider 1 beef rib a snack, 2 a small meal. I also tried the chopped brisket (brisket and burnt ends sitting in a soup of BBQ sauce). That was also delicious (and more reasonably priced), but I could have done with slightly less sauce. It really was like a soup and while the sauce was tasty, there was too much of it. I went later in the afternoon (around 2/2:30pm) and got their last two beef ribs so going earlier is better. You order at the open kitchen and then pay at the counter when your food is ready. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, you can take your food and sit at any of their tables of which they have many (this place is pretty big). I cannot comment on how this place stacks up to other BBQ spots in Austin, but I very much enjoyed the beef ribs.

You can exchange the default sides for some other options for a little extra charge. It was wonderful to see how generous the portion sizes were, including the sides! The chicken was perfectly friend and breaded in my opinion while keeping the white meat tender -- it was still like that even after I put the leftovers in the air fryer the next day. The baked beans were very flavorful and the sweetness complimented the savory chicken well. The cheer on top moment was the fact that the chicken was seasoned with a spicy seasoning so there was a bit of a subtle spicy aftertaste in each bite! I'll definitely be back again! :)

We started with the fried green tomatoes. They didn't quite beat the unforgettable ones from The Front Porch Cafe at Dollywood, but they were still tasty and we happily finished them. I ordered the 2-piece dark meat while my cousin got the 2-piece white meat, both with baked beans, slaw, and white bread. The baked beans and slaw were both satisfyingly delicious. When my plate arrived with a thigh and two legs, I thought I had ordered wrong! Our wonderful server, Kamber, explained that the legs were especially small that day, so they have to serve two instead. The chicken was crispy, flavorful, and delicious, and I loved learning they use peanut oil. The fresh, natural quality definitely came through. And placing the white bread underneath the chicken? Brilliant--it soaks up the extra oil! Service was fast, friendly, and efficient even though it was a busy Friday lunch hour. Amber was great about answering our questions and regularly checked up on us. She even introduced us to their homemade Chess pie--a classic rich southern custard dessert pie--which we were too full to try this time, next time for sure. We'll be back, especially since there's another location in San Antonio. Next visit, I'm coming hungry for the fried okra, mac & cheese, and seasoned fries! Just wish they also have corn on the cob and corn bread as other sides options. Southern fried chicken craving: officially satisfied.

For fifteen people, the total cost was $425.69. This included delivery costs and taxes, but no tip. It consisted of three meats, two sides, and a dessert along with pickles, onions, bread, and BBQ sauce. There was also a set of utensils delivered, but plates were forgotten, but not a big deal. Brisket - This was definitely the best item eaten of the day. It was tender and juicy while adding the BBQ sauce giving that extra bite. The BBQ sauce was great regardless, a little bit of sweet and smoky flavor going on. Pulled Pork - This was another solid meat choice. I did not think it was as tender as the brisket, but it was still enjoyable especially with that BBQ sauce, which was key throughout the meal. Sausage - This was not bad. The snap on this threw me off a little, but it was not too bad. They were large links and had plenty of flavor. Gouda Mac & Cheese with Smoked Bacon - This was actually penne pasta with little pieces of the bacon. I actually preferred this pasta choice here. It really soaked up the cheese sauce. The sauce was not too over powerful and was just right. Beans with Smoked Bacon - These were not too bad. I thought they were a little liquidity, but the added bacon pieces definitely helped. Banana Pudding - This came in individual cups, which was nice. The pudding was thick with a little meringue or whipped cream present and a few wafer cookies on top. It was a satisfying ending to a very good meal. Will I go back? Yes.
