After the last experience which was somewhat a little not on the same level as proper visits, this time was way better. We had a friend in town and decided to come back for dinner. It was also the start of restaurant weeks in Palm Springs which participating restaurant will offer dinner deals. Sunset was one of them. A two course meal which we opted out on. I booked a last minute dinner reservation for 8pm which we ended up running a little behind but called in to informed the restaurant. The sweet lady that answered which I also believe was the hostess was very accommodating. We did arrive about 10 min later which the table wasn't ready but could grab a drink at the bar while table was arranged. As we had a friend in town, we wanted to have one of the rocking tables but they were first come first served. Our table did come up but we ended up waiting a little longer till one of the rockers opened up. Hostess was very accommodating with us in regards of the table. Very sweet on her part. Bar tab had to be close there which we couldn't transfer over to dinner. Nicholas was the doll that took care of us. Very lively and a major sweetheart. Made sure that we were taken care of throughout the whole dining experience. Very sweet and bubbly even being short staffed. He made sure all this tables were accounted for. We didn't utilize the pre fix meal as what we wanted wasn't part of it. Started off an order of the aguachile which was a favorite last time and an order of the coconut jumbo shrimp. The flavors with both shrimp dish, very tasty in their own way. Coconut shrimp had a nice crunch and served with two dipping sauce. Aguachile, the lime marinade with jumbo shrimps with all the trimming was excellent. That was served with tortilla chips and a side of crackers. A good way to start. Also warm rolls with butter were also brought out. Entrees, one of us ended up full from the starter so an order of the pan seared dabs filet served with carrots and green beans and mashed potatoes. It was served over lemon capers sauce with three filet. Very tasty and light. Lastly, I had to go with the ciopinno as last time. A nice big hearty bowl at seafood. Big jumbo shrimp, mussels, clams and fish in a rich tomatoes broth. For an additional fee I added pasta to it. Totally worth it. Even though it was hot out, it was perfect. Too full for dessert as alway. This service experience was a major success. Service was great last time but the whole food situation was a fail. But tonight made up for that experience. We had a nice meal with drinks from the very start with checking in, having a drink at the bar while our table was ready to the meal. Nicholas was major doll throughout the whole dining experience and made sure we were taken care of. Service like this and a nice meal goes a very long way. We met a couple of friends for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The patio setting near the bar was inviting and cool . I am a desert local, and I felt like I was on a vacation. The vibe is relaxed, warm, and enjoyable. Our table had a unique and fun gliding feature. The inside dining room is clean and modern. The service is ultra-friendly and prompt. Your water glass is filled and our server asked us if we wanted to order more drinks. I ordered the fish sandwich on sourdough bread. Tasty. Food - Fried Calamari - I think of life in NYC derp fried calamari w momma's spicy red sauce. Menu said (I thought) fried calamari w Chipotle + another sauce. What came back was fried calamari drenched in gooey Chipotle sauce. Not Good. Had the fish prepped in capers white wine etc. Ok not great. Very large portion. However the 2 different salads were both really good. Their House + a Lime Cesar which sounded odd to me but was really good! Worth the trip. Maybe just ask about dish preparation. read more

I'm really bummed to even mention this, but tonight was a really disappointment from our first two times. I think they're cutting corners on staff and food costs for the summer crowd, because frankly, the food was bland, the pork chop was overcooked, and the bartender was overwhelmed due to a shortage of staff. We even sat at the bar to give the bartender some customers and after waiting for a while we had to cancel our last round of drinks to leave as it took too long and had finished our meal . I've had a better meal on a plane. I'm sad because I really recommended this place to others when asked where to eat in Palm Springs but I've changed my mind...can't wait for John Henry's to reopen after the summer hiatus. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant. From the moment you walk in you can tell a lot of thought and time was taken to curate an elevated vibe. The young woman who greeted us was kind and friendly. She was able to get us a glider outside without a reservation. Our server Jacob was delightful and the gentleman who came around with water was the sweetest. We ordered the pomodoro pasta, the porkchop and the salmon plus three drinks and the price point was consistent with the rest of Palm Springs. What an unexpected evening. My wife and I were celebrating our 2nd year anniversary in Palm Springs this weekend. As we walked around, we found these amazing fire heater and we were like, "we haven't seen this the last time we came here" and decided to try it. Let's say it's vibey. Great new place in this longtime Palm Springs location. The food is very good and the cocktails are well-made. I particularly enjoyed the After Glow. They are still working through some of the new restaurant quirks, but you can tell they are actively learning from any issues, resolving them and improving. You can sit either inside in the nicely, decorated and somewhat romantic dining room, where you could sit out on the outdoor patio. One of the features of the patio are the glider seats that have been here through various businesses. So come here and have a wonderful evening. But one word of caution, be careful while eating soup on the glider seats when you're dining partners are moving the gliders back-and-forth. read more

Cute cute cute! My friends and I stopped here for drinks on a lazy Saturday afternoon after a whole day of walking and shopping. They sat us at the patio and all we ordered was drinks. We hung out and talked for a few hours that our waiters changed shifts, and they even closed to transition between lunch and dinner but they let us stay and hangout without rushing us at all. Restrooms are large, dark, but have nice mirrors and big stalls. The outdoor seating has shaded spots under a large tree or tables under the sun depending on your preference. Drinks are good - I got the cucumber mocktail and it was refreshing and light. Cups are pretty big! read more

Came without a restaurant and got lucky to be seated at a swinging table on the patio. What a fun and interesting concept. we had seen this the day prior, and it looked so fun and inviting we decided to try for a Sunday brunch after our walking tour during modernism week. The restaurant is quite lovely and diverse. The inside is a very chic city, vibe, elegant, refined, and call me. The outside is a lovely garden patio with small tables and the swinging golf cart like booths. I love the ambience of both inside and outside seating. Food & Drinks- Quite a few specialty drinks to choose from I had the daydream which was very good . Chicken and waffles were ok. Calamari also ok, a bit too chewy(border rubbery). Husband ordered the surf and turf Benedict w/potatoes. Very tasty. The service was a bit slow. Our waiter seemed very green but he was pleasant and had a good attitude so I'm sure he'll just need more time to acclimate to serving. We are so excited to have this location open again, after such a long time! The remodel is beautiful, with an unrecognizable and beautiful interior and a lovely, expanded outdoor patio. You could not ask for better ambience, right in the heart of downtown. Just perfect. Everyone on staff was friendly, personable and service was spot on. Kudos. We have been to Sunset twice now, both times for lunch with friends. We will be back, I know, but I think it's important, especially to a new restaurant, to give honest feedback. The food was just not very good. The fish dishes . . . crab cakes and the calamari . . . were clearly frozen and completely flavorless and . . . frankly . . . a little disgusting. (The calamari was so tough that you might think you were chewing on rubber.) The chicken, which seems to be used on quite a few of the dishes, was also tough and flavorless. On our second visit, I decided to play it safe with the Caprese Salad. That was a mistake. The salad had huge, thick slices of raw red onion on it, a bottle-tasting dressing, and everything was hidden under a pile of weeds. I've never had a Caprese that looked and tasted so ridiculous. I hate to be negative on a new place, but I'm really hopeful that constructive feedback will foster improvement. I understand the owners have a few other places and that the food at those places is really good, so we are looking forward to seeing Sunset work out the kinks. read more

Happen to walk into this restaurant and was able to seated right inside. Outside was packed and had no seating. Super beautiful inside and great ambiance. Service was okay the waiter was nice. We got the meatloaf and the sole. Both dishes were really great and finished both plates. The berry drop I got was great but the Mai tai was not good and would not recommend. So new that their website says "coming soon," and their dumpster is full of cardboard from their load-in. But even with their first steps - and how do I keep finding places that just opened? - I predict this place is going to be a winner. If nothing else, their outdoor patio is the most beautiful and welcoming outdoor space in Palm Springs. Absolutely gorgeous with a raffia and mature trees vibe and so much space that you don't feel packed in. Jazz standards were wafting through the air for brunch while the lamps suspended from the trees swayed around. It's relaxed but sophisticated, and it feels like there's space to host a group. I give a lot of grace to service, and there were the expected "we're figuring this out" moments ... but the staff is SO nice. Chatty but not overbearing. Huge smiles and friendly jokes from the dude who's running food, who will charm your socks off. And the food? Honestly ... with a patio this lovely, they could probably skate on the food and still be a hit, but our breakfast was tasty (if not innovative). On a whim we started with the shrimp aquachile and maybe found the best thing on the menu. Plump shrimp "cooked" in a saucy bath of lime with puréed cucumber and mango bringing relief to the stinging heat ... it is a delicious dish! I'm looking forward to coming back for dinner. I really wanted to enjoy this place, but unfortunately, I don't think I'll be back with so many other great dining experiences in Palm Springs. We had reservations for Valentine's Day for around 7PM, and was surprised it wasn't as busy as it could have been. The ambiance was on point, and the restaurant itself was clean. However, I had ordered a salad with an addition of protein (chicken) to it. I received my salad with no chicken. Our server noticed and went to the kitchen to get it, but returned stating they had "ran out" of chicken. I'm not sure how this could have happened at 7pm on Valentine's Day. Little to no remedy for the situation, I ended up eating it, but was so severely disappointed in the lack of service or attentiveness to this. Unfortunately, this poor first impression of this establishment has ruined any chance of me returning in the future. Coach your teams on communicating with the kitchen. Something so simple should not have happened, if I would have known prior to our order being put in, I would have ordered something else, and probably would have left much happier. read more

It's great to see this space revived after so many years. The remodel is lovely, especially at night. The space is beautifully lit and the decor is modern and comfortable. We've been twice and I got the Shrimp a la Pasilla pasta both times because it's so good. My partner really enjoyed the sand dabs the first time, but may always have to get the Cioppino now that he tried it. He said was the best he has ever had. I'm usually a regular over at their sister restaurant, El Patio, but decided it was finally time to give Sunset a try and wow, I am so glad I did! The food was absolutely amazing. The meatloaf was packed with so much flavor, and the pastas were truly exquisite. You can really tell the desserts are made in-house because they were incredibly savory and the perfect way to end the night. On top of the killer food, the service was top-notch. The owner even went around to the tables asking everyone how their experience was, which was such a classy, welcoming touch. After the horrible experience we had at El Patio Palm Springs on Mother's Day, we were directed to their sister restaurant, Sunset Restaurant, where we were told appetizers or drinks would be covered because of everything that happened at El Patio. Based on what the waitress told us, we ordered appetizers, expecting at least some effort to make up for the situation. Unfortunately, things only got worse. When our calamari arrived, there was a long, thick black hair in the food. After already dealing with the reservation disaster at El Patio, finding hair in our food at Sunset was absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. We immediately informed the waiter, and shockingly, no one apologized. No manager came to speak with us, no one checked in on the situation, and there was absolutely no sense of urgency or concern. While they did not charge us for the appetizers or drinks, that was the bare minimum after the terrible experience we had at BOTH restaurants. Between the failed reservation situation at El Patio Palm Springs and the unsanitary food issue at Sunset Restaurant, this entire Mother's Day experience was ruined. The lack of professionalism, communication, accountability, and basic customer service from both restaurants was unbelievable. Not a single manager from either location apologized to us for what happened. read more
