Tastes just like Germany! Seriously, the currywurst with fries tastes just like something from a Currywurst in Germany. So tasty and satisfying, I was pleasantly surprised. At the time, they only had outside seating, so it was a bit cold in the evening, but the food was so good. My husband got a crumbled meat (pork I think) hot dog which he also really liked. They do prompt you to pay on their tablet at the end of the meal, much like another reviewer mentioned and my husband had to ask the see the total breakdown, which was correct, but I think it's a bit weird to ask people to pay without showing them the receipt first. Love the German brews and fare at this bright and modern spot right off Market and the Castro! On a Monday evening, it was vibrant but easy to get a table outside. The Black Hammer drafts on tap come out in half-liter dimpled steins which makes fir an enjoyable and festive drink! While I normally go for IPAs, the Star Pony Blonde Ale was strong and refreshing. We ordered the Impossible Sausage Berlin Style, and I was pleased by the strong curry flavors that go well with ketchup. The star of the show was definitely the Spaetzle, which is like German mac and cheese. The egg noodles give it an especially creamy note, and the cheese and caramelized onions were scrumptious - so delighted to have discovered this dish! read more

Pretty good! We tried this place tonight - got the Berliner (cheddar brat over fries with a side of curry ketchup) and the schnitzel over potatoes, with a cheddar brat for $4 more. Total was $38 pre-tip. Not exactly a weeknight meal, but the fries were still really good and crispy by the time we got home, about a 10 min walk in the cold! That was a pleasant surprise. Love the menu at Willkommen! German food doesn't have to be heavy and starchy (though it can be!). Willkommen offers German classics: spaetzle (basically German mac and cheese), all the wursts, potato salad, pretzels, beer, etc. But, I appreciate that they've also diversified their menu to accommodate practically any diet! If you're vegan/soy-free/gluten-free, try their beyond sausage. If you don't eat red meat, the chicken cherry sausage is heavenly. If you don't drink, try a craft soda by Alameda Point. Eat your Wurst atop a salad if you're going for the healthier option...or try it Berliner style with curry ketchup if you love carbs! So many great options on the menu here, and all are good! Outdoor dining here is great. You can eat on Market Street or Sanchez Street, as the restaurant is on the corner of both. Try to go for a table on Sanchez street, as you'll get the long, beerhall style tables (better atmosphere!). You can order online, but if you're going to eat in-person, I highly recommend making a reservation as they get busy on weekends. read more

This place is fabulous! Great atmosphere coupled with scrumptious food and delicious beer - what not to like? I'm all about that pretzel they have here with the beer cheese sauce. It is SO good. Its pillowy, warm goodness with just the right amount of salt and dollop of that beer cheese sauce - that's what life is all about. Always good beer (and cider). A few friends and I met here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and drinks. We tried a few of the beers and they were all really delicious and the descriptions on the menu are accurate. The food was just ok. I appreciate the house made sausages but I don't know if I would go back just for those. I might try a burger or a different entree next time. The service was very fast and friendly. The atmosphere was a little loud (my Apple watch noise detection went off a few times) but that probably is dependent on how packed it is. I was in San Francisco for two night and came here both nights. The beer is very good. From IPAs to German pilsners, everything was delicious. The staff is 5 stars for sure. Menu changed... and unfortunately not for the better. Gone are the variety of sausages, so I thought to myself, "at least the schnitzel is still on the menu." But even that was not the same. The breaded pork was okay, but the side of potato salad it came atop was a mix of potatoes, oil, and enough unrinsed capers to render the side so salty it was inedible. What we received in the bag were the schnitzels, A teeny tiny container of mushroom sauce and some kind of pretzel with cheese. No spatzele, no plastic utensils or napkins. Very unhappy. We did not open the bag until we got home here on the mid Peninsula. Should have been a lot more of the mushroom gravy and the spatzele as ordered. My wife & I loved the pretzel sticks with double beer cheese! They mix their Nectar of Life Kolsch with a super tasty in-house made cheese sauce. It's decadent, snappy, and plain ol' delicious! The pretzels are soft and warm when they bring them out to you, and they are covered in fancy salt. This item also comes with a honey Dijon dipper that cuts the salty cheesy awesomeness perfectly. We also enjoyed the .5L Sparkle Pony Belgian Blonde, and the .5L Hella Sexy Munich Helles. Both brews were sprightly, and perfect for this beautiful spring day. The size of these beers do not disappoint, however, if you want to feel like a Ghaul, or a Viking order the 1L Stein and you will get a massive beer mug full of bubbly brew. My friends and I had the best time at Willkommen. We went because a lot of us have the San Francisco Beer Passport. We sat inside and as a large group took up one bench. We bought plenty of beers and played some fun drinking games. The beers are really good and the vibes are immaculate. It is a naturally bright and airy place. After the first 2 visits of pretty rude service, I've now been back several times and Wilkommen has become one of my favorite spots to grab a beer and some quick delicious food. I highly recommend the Sparkle Pony beer. With so many gluten reduced beers to choose from, walking in to Willkommen is like being a kid in a candy story. Perfect place to also just come hang out with friends as they have games set to go. I'm so glad I was able to come back and give it another shot, as it's a great spot in the castro! read more

So many RAVE reviews, that I think are little overhyped. GREAT happy hour - huge liter beers & great variety for a good price. But if you're coming for just the food... it's okay. A little pricey in my opinion for what you're getting, but the service is great & the environment is fun as well. You can also reserve a table ahead of time on OpenTable which is nice. I ordered the Berliner (choice of sausage over fries with curry ketchup) with the Chicken Cherry sausage for $11. I was really craving fries this day & this was the only menu item that already came with fries (I wrongly assumed that the hot dogs would've come with fries on the side, but nope that's extra) The portion wasn't that large, and it wasn't anything incredibly special. I thought the curry ketchup was really delicious, but it was strong & masked the flavor of everything else - I don't even remember how the chicken cherry sausage tasted tbh. I think I'd return to try their Happy Hour one day (when the pandemic is over lol). read more

Not only is the food great, but I want to thank the staff for being knowledgeable about gluten free. Most of the bratwursts are gluten free and the fries have their own fryer. I also get nervous about "gluten removed" beers, but this place says that their GR beers have been tested and fall well below the parts per million FDA limit of being gluten free. I'm celiac and did not get sick after a full meal and 2 beers. Thank you! read more
