A brand new beer hall with counter service / fast casual German bites. Love the no hassle ordering vibe so you're not beholden to harried waitstaff to take your order and then can just up and leave when you're done. Food is pretty solid for a beer hall. Pretzel Sticks w/ Beer Cheese: This is the perfect snack for me. I love pretzels and I love melty dipping cheese. Their pretzel sticks solves the issue of having to unwind twisted pretzels to get pieces suitable for dipping. Plus it had more surface area with that nice malted brown area since there were no overlapping intersections. The cheese was way better that orange movie theater crap. It definitely tasted like beer was in there but also had a nice funky cheese aroma, making it seem more complex than simple cheddar. Berliner w/ Weisswurst & Slovenian Klobase: Reminded me a bit of salchipapas. The combination of fries and sausage slices and curried ketchup was a lot of fun, albeit quite rich. The weisswurst looked cool since it was so pale, but it was a tad bland. The Slovenian klobase, however, had a lot of nice smoky personality. read more

Tastes just like Germany! Seriously, the currywurst with fries tastes just like something from a Currywurst in Germany. So tasty and satisfying, I was pleasantly surprised. At the time, they only had outside seating, so it was a bit cold in the evening, but the food was so good. My husband got a crumbled meat (pork I think) hot dog which he also really liked. They do prompt you to pay on their tablet at the end of the meal, much like another reviewer mentioned and my husband had to ask the see the total breakdown, which was correct, but I think it's a bit weird to ask people to pay without showing them the receipt first. Love the German brews and fare at this bright and modern spot right off Market and the Castro! On a Monday evening, it was vibrant but easy to get a table outside. The Black Hammer drafts on tap come out in half-liter dimpled steins which makes fir an enjoyable and festive drink! While I normally go for IPAs, the Star Pony Blonde Ale was strong and refreshing. We ordered the Impossible Sausage Berlin Style, and I was pleased by the strong curry flavors that go well with ketchup. The star of the show was definitely the Spaetzle, which is like German mac and cheese. Pretty good! We tried this place tonight - got the Berliner (cheddar brat over fries with a side of curry ketchup) and the schnitzel over potatoes, with a cheddar brat for $4 more. The food was just ok. I appreciate the house made sausages but I don't know if I would go back just for those. I might try a burger or a different entree next time. Willkommen offers German classics: spaetzle (basically German mac and cheese), all the wursts, potato salad, pretzels, beer, etc. But, I appreciate that they've also diversified their menu to accommodate practically any diet! If you're vegan/soy-free/gluten-free, try their beyond sausage. If you don't eat red meat, the chicken cherry sausage is heavenly. If you don't drink, try a craft soda by Alameda Point. Eat your Wurst atop a salad if you're going for the healthier option...or try it Berliner style with curry ketchup if you love carbs! So many great options on the menu here, and all are good! Outdoor dining here is great. You can eat on Market Street or Sanchez Street, as the restaurant is on the corner of both. Try to go for a table on Sanchez street, as you'll get the long, beerhall style tables (better atmosphere!). My wife & I loved the pretzel sticks with double beer cheese! They mix their Nectar of Life Kolsch with a super tasty in-house made cheese sauce. It's decadent, snappy, and plain ol' delicious! The pretzels are soft and warm when they bring them out to you, and they are covered in fancy salt. This item also comes with a honey Dijon dipper that cuts the salty cheesy awesomeness perfectly. We also enjoyed the .5L Sparkle Pony Belgian Blonde, and the .5L Hella Sexy Munich Helles. Both brews were sprightly, and perfect for this beautiful spring day. The size of these beers do not disappoint, however, if you want to feel like a Ghaul, or a Viking order the 1L Stein and you will get a massive beer mug full of bubbly brew. I ordered a beer and a plate of fries here a couple of weeks ago. The fries were clearly fried in very, very, very stale oil. It might have dated back to the pleistocene era. Nevertheless I ate the fries because I had been biking and was hungry. When my server asked me how my fries were, I replied truthfully that the oil seemed a little bit on the old side. Instead of apologizing and offering me a refund or a free beer or some such, she became extremely defensive, proclaiming how loyal she was to the restaurant and what a big fan of its potato products she was. After ordering a plate of said fries from the kitchen to prove her point and nibbling on one, she then added, "The most annoying thing is that you're not wrong." So, in the space without 15 minutes I was served rancid fries, contradicted when I was actively asked how they were, and called annoying. It was a pity since my first apartment in San Francisco was just a few doors down 35 years ago, and I hate to see the neighborhood go downhill. read more

After the first 2 visits of pretty rude service, I've now been back several times and Wilkommen has become one of my favorite spots to grab a beer and some quick delicious food. I highly recommend the Sparkle Pony beer. With so many gluten reduced beers to choose from, walking in to Willkommen is like being a kid in a candy story.
