Brought my staff here tonight for a little team bonding. None of us had been duckpin bowling before, and the menu looked different, but interesting. The space is gorgeous. Super clean, and beyond welcoming staff. Everyone was attentive to guests and made this new experience enjoyable to navigate. The food was so, so good! When you think of going bowling, you don't typically think of the food being one of the reasons you go back -- but here at Wilma's -- I would come back for the food. This place has potential, but at the current moment, there are just so many options in DE and Wilma's would not be a top pick. The best part of my experience was that the staff was really accommodating and kind. It was blatantly obvious that they were understaffed, and the Sunday brunch crew began to come in, it became overwhelming. I got the Standard Breakfast, and there was barely any egg on the plate and the sausage was okay, nothing I need to have again. The potatoes were very tasty though. We also tried the corn bread and beignets. Again, nothing I need again. Which is sad, because there are not many New Orleans themed menus or restaurants here. This just missed the mark. The duck pin bowling was really fun though! We tried a specialty drink while bowling (the ordering process there was high tech and efficient) but honestly the drink was awful: sour and confusing... Upon entering the restaurant you see the Duckpin Bowling alley behind the checkin/hostess station. The bar to the right then tables. This place has New Orlean style cuisine for menu items but it is far from it!! I was utterly disappointed by the cuisine! This was my choice for my birthday brunch. The waitress was pleasant & knowledgeable of the menu but we asked her if the French bread on the Shrimp Po'boy was soft or hard. She it was toasted we requested for my mother to not toast the bread. When the order came, the bread was hard & shrimp was overcooked!! My sister ordered the Crab Cake Benny. The English muffins were burnt & the crab cake was bland. I mean zero seasoning! Dead! I ordered the Kale Apple Salad with a vinaigrette. It was horrible! The kale was bitter & cabbage was hard & thick literally unchewable! There was no urgency in trying to accommodate nor did he offer to make it right! Then he said he would talk to the chef left and didn't come back. I had just taken my insulin before the meal arrived and was only able to eat the crab cake therefore I had to go somewhere else to eat because I didn't eat enough to cover the amount of insulin I took. It had bacon in it that wasn't listed in the description, which was upsetting after I had already started eating. But the manager removed it from our bill. Still, I think pork or any meat in a seafood dish should be disclosed in the ingredients. read more

The atmosphere is nice but the service was not. Our waitress was not attentive or friendly and we watched as our drinks were made & then sat on the bar for over 10 minutes and were then delivered to us by someone other than our server. The couple sitting next to us was greeted promptly by a different server and given menu suggestions in a very friendly manner, but we did not have the same experience with our server. My husband had the steak and it was very fatty and he could not eat most of it for this reason. The fried oyster po boy was very good along with the green beans. Went to Wilma's for brunch the day after I first heard about them. I found them on yelp and was very intrigued by the concept of duck bowling + cajun food. It seems you book the two separate, which makes sense, they're separate spaces, sort of. We went for brunch and I didn't look into bowling at all but I would like to go back for dinner and bowling with friends. I had brunch with my husband and 6 year old son. They have a children's menu but it didn't have any brunch items and my son wanted breakfast, as our reservation was at 10:15. My husband and I both ordered Cajun bloody Mary's. The taste was good but a bit much for me so I gave mine to my husband. It's bold and spicy. Just not for me. And the presentation was beautiful. My husband ordered shrimp and grits. It was a really tasty dish but not a huge portion by any means. Also the description said it came with blistered peppers but that turned out to be a few slices of jalapeño on top, more like a garnish. I ordered andouille sausage gravy and biscuits to share with my son and we ordered beignets for the table. I loved my biscuits and gravy. I didn't expect the eggs and didn't really need them but a little runny yolk never hurts a savory breakfast plate. The potato's were yummy. Everything still hot when it arrived. The beignets have a slightly different flavor that make them standout from others we've had in the past. We really enjoyed them. All of the staff and our server were very helpful, friendly and kind. Everyone looked nice and the space itself is beautiful. I would love to have an event here. It's fabulous. And my 6 year old requests crepes :) I will return. read more

Food was good, beignets were over cooked and tasted a smidge burnt. Service was ok took a while for our waitress to come to us. The reason they get a low review from me is due to basically being asked to move due to another reservation. Granted we had paid and were just chatting, however I've never had a restaurant ask me to move or leave because they need the table. Most people go to restaurants to eat and talk with friends. It was also the manner in which it was done. It was more like please leave even while the person was saying we could stay. I just wasn't cool with it as I had just spent money in the place. It wasn't packed either and there were other tables that had been there longer than us but they were not asked to move/leave. I don't recommend this place there other less expensive places with great food in the area. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

Nothing cajun about the cuisine. When I walked in I was single shamed by the host as he said JUST one. I said table for one, not sure about the JUST. So then he offered to sit me at the bar. I said no, I would like to sit at a table. There were only 3 tables with seated customers and he walked me past them to the very, very, very back and in the corner. I stopped and picked my own seat and told him that I will sit here because you aren't putting baby in the corner! I ordered the lump meat frittata with potatoes. The dish had NO hint of any type of seasoning, the potatoes were dry so I had to put a lot of ketchup on it and I usually don't. The frittata was not cooked in the center and I was just so disappointed. I frequent the Bayou so I was hoping to get some cajun cuisine and not diner food. The atmosphere is lovely at Wilma's and I had high hopes. Sorry, but there was not anything cajun (french and southern Bayou love) in anything that I ate at Wilma's. read more

My friend and I discovered Wilma's by pure happenstance, and I am so grateful. I have gone there every chance I've had while working in Wilmington, and I've gotten a different thing on the menu every single time. Every single thing I've had there was absolutely amazing- I'm dead serious when I say I've never been disappointed. The service is also consistently great. We've had the same waitress the past few times we've gone (don't remember her name, but she has short blonde hair) and she has been awesome. The service is so great, that when I accidentally left my credit card there, the manager chased me down to get it to me. That's just above and beyond service. My friends and I went for brunch and bowling. We got the beignet's as an appetizer and they were were incredible. The chicken and waffle were delicious. The waffles were fluffy and the chicken was crispy and flavorful. It has a great vibe and aesthetic inside. The servers were extremely kind, attentive and knew the menu well. I could not be more pleased with this place. Me and my wife moved from Memphis, and really had a hard time finding restaurants that had good southern food. We have found a lot of nice places to eat since then, but I think Wilma's might be our favorite. I recommend the fried, eggplant, appetizer, catfish Bhan Mi, and the crabcake anything. They're cocktails are pretty incredible as well. read more

Had high expectations for this new place and upon waking in very optimistic. This was our first time here. They even had my favorite tequila in stock. So far so good. However things went down high quickly. My family and had our hearts set on trying their ribs or steak selection on the menu only to have the waitress tell us they were out of both item. Are you kidding me!?!) Now mind you we got there maybe around 5:30 and there is no way any restaurant should be out of anything by this time. We were very disappointed to say the least. However we reluctantly found another selection the menu. I had the Mac and cheese and my wife had the crab cakes, both were pretty good but nothing great. My kids however got the chicken tenders and the burger, the tenders were over cooked and dry and the burger was like a rock with no taste. So they all just ate the fries that were pretty good. For my kids not to eat their meals the food had to be very poor. We then wanted to try out the bowling only to find out it was a 2 hour wait so needless to say we didn't stay that long to play. The concept of duck pin bowling and Canjun food is exciting, but there execution really falls short. The staff was super friendly and really trying, but they were understaffed at bowling and bar. Our lane had multiple issues including a pin that would never register as knocked down and bowling balls failing to return on multiple occasions. The staff wasn't always available to help as they were busy. Bar service at bowling was great, but slowed to a crawl once we were seated for dinner--so much so that they comped us for a round of drinks (thank you). The food was generally flavorful, but with highs and lows. Fried catfish and shrimp were excellent, but the sautéed Brussels sprouts were way undercooked and hard. The venue is loud once moderately busy due two stories of reflective walls/ceiling. read more

Visiting from NYC tonite and took my son here for his 18th birthday. The food is really great and the staff is so amazing. However, just a bit frustrated that there were a number of mistakes at my table, one being that I asked that a candle be in my son's dessert both when I made my reservation AND when we got to the restaurant but when the time came, that didn't happen. Instead they took the plate away from him after he started eating his dessert and came back with a candle in place. If anything it'll be a memory we'll laugh about. We went bowling afterwards and that was really fun. Definitely worth a visit. read more

I came to this restaurant with a group of friends. My friend didn't like the sandwich she had gotten (the crab cake sandwich). We had told the waitress this, and she took the food and she asked my friend what else she wanted, so my friend replied (mind you, my friend took two bites of the sandwich, so it wasn't like she ate half of it and then said she didn't like it). Then comes along the manager, I suppose. He says that he can't take the food that she didn't like off the tab even though she only took two bites. That was a disappointment. Even besides this, the overall experience wasn't that great. If you aren't bothered by noise, that's fine, but the sound of the bowling pins didn't add to a nice dining experience for me, though I thought I'd be fine. Chose this for my first stop on Wilmington, DE Restaurant Week. I have to say I am so impressed with the food! Everything we order was exceptional! What made me choose coming here first from all the offerings was the Green Fried Tomatoes Caprese Appetizer, Crispy and tasty, I would recommend adding Balsamic Glaze. The Snapper, which my friend ordered was so good! However, I fell in love with the multicolored carrots B4 even tasting the fish. The fish was crispy and tender, wonderfully seasoned but still mild and not overpowering. I chose the Eggplant Agrodolce w Charred Fennel, OMG!! (Another menu item that drew me in) Can my tongue handle all these multiples! I added the grits and the corn bread to our meal. I am done!! Taking some home for mańana! This place is a joke. We had our daughters 30th birthday. We asked millions of questions, can you decorate, (yes) arrive 1 hour before. Guess what the area was rented by others. We had tonwait until our party started to put all of our decorations in place. The so-called manager had no reflection on several emails for several months. The bartender is an even bigger joke. Was refusing to wait on my guest approx 25 people until the 3 people sitting at the bar were waited on. She rolled her eyes at my guest, ignored us as we waited for drinks ( we had an open bar package), and we were charged $370 for 15 shots. Then, the manager with no brain or management skills tells me I didn't pay a deposit 4 months before that was required when booking. The food was horrible. We were treated like second-class citizens who spent more than $2000. Never again, and I will continue to tell people the same, as will my guests that were at our event. read more

Ambiance is very good here. Love the duckpin bowling and arcade . Bar layout is good. Food- not so much. Admitting I came in at 1:30 on a Sunday, it still seems a management flaw that 3 of the 4 better dishes were sold out. No chicken and waffles. No crab cakes. No no Orleans style French Toast. This should never happen. Server was great. Wilmington has stepped up in the culinary world regionally. The days of simply having ambiance and location to survive may have passed by. I hope this is rectified as Wilma's has a chance to carve a well needed niche. read more
