The sweet potato cornbread was very tasty, but it was pretty sweet. My husband described it as a dessert muffin. The roasted chicken breast was not a chicken breast. It was a breast that had been sliced into thin patties, and then cooked. It was so dry and tough, and I had to slather it in sauce for it to be enjoyable. Think of a cutlet, without the breading. The classic cornbread and mac and cheese were both just awful. The cornbread was super duper dry and gritty, and the serving size was pathetic (think half the size of a deck of cards). The mac and cheese was basically just a small bowl of noodles with no cheese. A super friendly counter person greeted us as we entered and seated us immediately. This is my 3rd visit here and I must say the smoked meats and burgers are tasty and good. The inside is cute and comfortable. My dining friends however all commented on how loud the country music was The side items are priced a little on the high side considering the area. So as the selection of side items is wonderful I am hoping they are considering offering them as part of the package if you order a cheesesteak or burger. I'm glad we did as we enjoyed our food. There is a parking lot which fits about 15-20 cars. I'm not sure about the side street. This restaurant is on busy E Township Line Road (great location). We arrived early on a Friday (630pm) and luckily, we did as the restaurant was packed when we left. The décor in the restaurant is really cool. There was a lot of thought put into this restaurant. I waitress was really nice and helpful so we didn't mind waiting a bit since she looked swamped. It looks like they didn't have a table busser. Not sure why but they definitely needed it on a Friday night. This place also has a large take out business. My son ordered the chicken tenders kid meal which he enjoyed. My suggestion is to use the grilled chicken they serve instead of frying the frozen stuff but the kid ate it all. We ordered the onion rings and they were very tasty. We split them. My friend ordered the pulled pork platter with grilled squash and asparagus. It also came with tasty cornbread. She really enjoyed her meal and plenty of pork for leftovers. I had the grilled chicken platter with mac and cheese, baked beans and cornbread. I enjoyed my entire meal. To go.... I ordered a full rack of rib platter ($26) with a side of carrots and mac and cheese. Hubby loved it. I didn't get to try them this time. My niece had the pulled pork sandwich. I'm not sure what happened here but her food never came out. Well it did but probably about 20-30 minutes later (seriously) as we were ALL done with our dinner by the time it came out (like seriously done). I had to ask the waitress where the food was and she said coming and that someone took it a few times. Without even calling to let them know, an awesome friendly girl from Wilson's called me directly to let me know it was their mistake and they would make it right by delivering the missing items and a free dessert for the inconvenience. Huge brisket cheesesteak with pretty good execution. I ordered the brisket cheesesteak. The roll is soft and chewy. Excellent. The sandwich is packed insanely generously with brisket. The brisket is OK. I felt the bite was just slightly dry and sticky on the bite. It lacked the fat and flakiness of a really good brisket. It also only had a faint smokiness, probably due to its lack of fat. The secret sauce is basically a bechemel. I found it pretty plain and definitely too gritty. Wilsons ought to consider subbing this sauce with a strong cheddar melted with water and sodium citrate to prevent breaking. Overall I felt this was a good deal. Perhaps we didn't pick the best time to come here as it was about 5 hours before a Philadelphia Eagles home game against the Cowboys. This resulted in a tad slow service, and the server even mentioned that they were slammed with takeout orders for the football game. We were given a free side of the creamed corn nuggets (not sure if that's what they are called on the menu but that essentially what they are) which were actually quite good. I chose the Brisket Steak and Cheese sandwich with French Fries. The brisket itself had really good taste, especially accompanied with the "secret sauce". My only complaint was that it was somewhat mushy. It wasn't the lean kind of brisket that I'm accustomed to. Overall good sandwich. I would definitely return here and give them another shot. What a find. When visiting at Villanova, we decided to branch out. The 15 minute drive was well worth it. Don't judge it by the outside, the inside is new and a tribute to meat. FINALLY made a visit to Wilson's, just happens to be Covid era. Ordered 2 lbs of brisket and 20 smoked wings. The dinner also came with rolls for sandwiches, bbq sauce, hot sauce and bleu cheese. Everything was great, TBH I like fried wings better (an option at Wilson's) but still throughly dug the smoked. The brisket was tender and absolutely full of flavor. The sauce just made it all pop. Poor quality expensive food. Bad service. And when you sit down they hand you a placard stating that you should expect to wait long but 20% tip is automatically included anyway!! Not worth visiting! response half of our food was cold. The server, to no fault of her own, was unable to service all of her tables so we did not receive service warranting a 20% tip. And when you greet new customers with your placard stating mandatory tip, expect long waits, and of course the menu prices might not even be accurate, you should expect them to start the meal with a bad taste in their mouth. If you hadn't started the meal with that placard I would have left a 15% tip and probably not returned because I wasn't impressed with the food. But your placard was so off-putting that it led me to write you negative reviews. read more

The temp on the ribs was lukewarm the collards taste like canned greens that they added black pepper to. The potato salad was tasteless . Well it take like vinegar and mayo no other seasonings and it wasn't made fresh. It was leftover it had that taste that you get when potato salad isn't stored properly. I asked to exchange the potato salad for baked beans the waitress said she couldn't exchange them because I tasted the potato salad already. "Oh ok I've never heard of such a thing." Next I think the owner came out. I explained my ribs weren't hot they were warm. And that I couldn't exchange the potato out for the beans. This wasn't a good food experience. I felt like I was being punked. I asked for the ribs to be warmed they came back the same as they did the first time. Didn't even need sauce (which kept me away from the sugar). Mom also raved about the veggie sides. The wife enjoyed the grilled chicken platter, although she thought the Mac and cheese was too plain. I ordered baked smoked wings with no sauce and enjoyed the flavor, but it's probably not their best choice. The boy did not complain about his chicken fingers one bit. I'll be back. Been wanting to try this for a while. Love a good barbecue joint and happy to have one in the area. Unfortunately having finally tried it I can't say I'm impressed at all. I have had brisket all over and in and out of the city and have definitely found a couple stand out places. This is not a stand out. Ordered takeout at 1:30 on this Wednesday afternoon. Absolutely no one in the store when I arrived and things came out quick enough. About 15 minutes from order to ready. The girl at the counter was certainly nice enough. My order, the $26.99 mixed meat platter. I chose a half lb of brisket, 1/2 rack of ribs, grilled and seasoned carrots, grilled and seasoned asparagus, and it came as standard with a piece of cornbread. Also included were two small containers of bbq sauce. First off, the carrots. They were OK. Had a bit of seasoning and if I were to guess they were probably cooked inside a packet or on a bed of aluminum foil after being sliced thinly. Three stars there. Decent. Second, the asparagus. Five spears of overcooked and untrimmed asparagus. Heavily seasoned. Mushy. Two stars there. The ribs were pretty solid but slightly overdone. A slight bit dry but good flavor. These definitely were falling off the bone. In truth, really good ribs should not be completely falling off the bone. They should pull cleanly off the bone but have a slight bit of resistance and a good tender bite. They were decent though and pretty enjoyable. 3 to 4 stars for those. Now, the half pound of brisket. Quite disappointing. Two thin slices of dried out brisket with very little smoke and an extremely salty rub...overpoweringly salty...There was no smoke ring to be found on the meat at all and despite claims of everything being cooked fresh I'm a little dubious with the dryness I experienced in this brisket. See the picture attached, of a completely brown toned meat with very little "pink". Sorry to say i expected a lot more after reading some very good reviews. 2 stars. Finally the cornbread, which was actually pretty darn good. Moist for cornbread and nice and sweet. Four stars there. Sadly/honestly probably the best thing in the platter. The barbecue sauce, which I guess is their "secret sauce" was very sweet, lacking depth , and completely standard. Could have been out of a jar bought at the supermarket and i wouldn't know the difference. I don't know if my experience today was an off day for them or what happened but if what i got was their standard fare, There are much better options for barbecue in both the city, and local suburbs. On the sauce being different for every meat, I got two of the same sauces for the two different meats. On the meat steaming up in a container and cooking a little more, that wouldn't remove a smoke ring if it was there. Also, if done right moisture can be retained. I've been in plenty of restaurants in the front and back of the house and know this to be the case. Finally, in response to your comment that a good Yelper always tries more than once and that dining in is better, I have a couple of things to say. One, of course dining in is better. But take out should still be good. I can tell you of a good few barbecue places where I get take out regularly and have never been disappointed. That is a bit of a cop out. Whether dining in or dining out, that rub on the brisket would've still been overpoweringly salty. And despite dining out, my house is about two minutes from your establishment. The food was cut and placed in the box in front of me and it took about five minutes max to make it from your kitchen to my table. Shouldn't really make much of a difference whether there or taken out, that being the case. The food should be to the same standard. Two, With so many restaurants out there, I don't really see the need to go to a place twice in evaluation if i have a totally sub par experience. Most importantly, You should be careful with your comment about good Yelpers. In response I would say that good business owners listen to criticism, and look within. They want to be better and instead of lashing back at the people commenting, seek to improve. I see you respond to every negative review on here with a bit of an attack and as somebody who deals with people every day that's not the way to do it if you're looking to be effective. Right when I walked in I noticed how nicely decorated the restaurant was and the people in the front were nice. I ordered the brisket cheesesteak with BBQ sauce on the side and waited to pick it up on the side of the counter. The bread was nicely toasted and the brisket was very good. The brisket wasn't dry and had a great smoke to it. I wasn't crazy about the cheese sauce though... it was like a gritty cheese that I don't think added to the sandwich. I'm no BBQ sauce expert, but it was pretty good and I could see myself enjoying it with a lot of other meals. I don't have to be a good yelper in order to know the difference btw seasoned and unseasoned food. Or the difference btw good homemade BBQ sauce and store bought. I have eaten in many different restaurants food has no flavor. Mac and cheese wasn't cheesy, Brisket was dry(should've been cooked in the sauce) Grilled chicken was dry(overcooked). Asparagus wasnt flavorful. Deep fried corn ???? No taste at all.... Sweet potato cornbread was the only thing that tasted good... Found Wilson's Secret Sauce today thanks to YELP! And what a great find. Our 2nd son is a freshman up the road at Saint Joseph's University and we did a quick YELP search for lunch. The waitress was great as was the food. Our son had the "Township Line Brisket Cheese Steak" which was amazing. He even shared a bite (albeit a small bite) with me so i can say with full authority that it was amazing. I had the "Chicken Cheese Steak" was was equally great. Steve Wilson the chef / owner even came up to check on us which was a great touch. Steve suggested I try the "Wilson's Chicken Cheese Steak" next time in which has candied bacon and coopersharp cheese which sounds great. Their story is great with Steve being a former auto mechanic who got pulled into grilling and catering by demand of friends and family due to his great touch and food / grill skills. The brisket was great and could stand its own without the sauce. Tenderness was great and so was the flavor. Portion size was about average for bbq. The dining room was nice, but the passive aggressive signs around the space and restrooms could've been worded in a more appropriate manner. Be warned: they charge market rate for the brisket which is fair, but the number I was told for the day any the number I paid were way off. I understand the cost of food and the fluctuation of brisket costs, but I want to know exactly how much it's going to cost before I order. However the Mac and cheese was very disappointing. It had no taste at all. Maybe just a bad batch, but we wouldn't order it again. The big turnoff to us was the whole sheet of rules, including no split checks and 20% tip automatically added because, "our wait staff works hard for their living not to get that at least." Wilson's is an awesome addition to this rather desolate area of Havertown! The moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by a super-friendly crew and super-good smelling barbecue! You can be sure all the barbecue staples are here: smoked brisket, pulled pork, chicken wings, and ribs. But you will also find a number of items that are quite unique for a barbecue place - such as deep-fried corn-on-the-cob, grilled brussel sprouts, salads, etc. My friend and I decided to get a number of different items for our meal, so we could sample some of the more interesting options on the Wilson's menu. While she loved her ribs (and ate more than she thought she would), I was totally savoring my smoked brisket. Wilson's brisket has a wonderfully-flavored char to it, and is available for you in both lean and 'fatty' (aka moist) versions. I chose a combination of lean & fatty, and it's worth noting that the lean option was still very moist (which many places tends to be dried out) and the fatty version did not have gross amounts of fat (thankfully). Our favorite side dish was the deep-fried corn-on-the-cob, hands down. The cobs were cut down to be easy to handle, and were still soft enough to bite into. They were spiced up enough to provide a great flavor, probably with just a bit of salt. I was rather jealous that she ordered them and had a full portion - next time I'm definitely going to order those little cobs of goodness!!! Hahaa. The cole slaw was delicious, if not just a bit too wet; the mac & cheese was made with their in-house cheese (which apparently is vary popular on Wilson's "brisket cheesesteak" hoagie); the grilled asparagus was rather bland (but requesting some parmagiana cheese sure helped it along!). The quintessential side item for barbecue - the cornbread - was perfect: it was neither too dry nor too sweet, and it had real kernels of corn in it. Pretty sure that it was house-made also. The other quintessential for a barbecue place - the house-made iced tea - was delicious. It's advertised as "slightly sweet", and that is just how in-house ice tea should be. Just a note on the tea: you get a couple complimentary refills, but they will charge you for any further refills after those! The prices were reasonable for the quality & amount of food. Our server Brandi was super-sweet and attentive, and the owner made the rounds to be sure everything was ok and to hear customer's feedback. I've been meaning to stop by for ages and finally did over the weekend. I was impressed! We were just sampling, so we only got brisket and corn-on-the-cob bites, but both were great. The brisket wasn't quite as juicy or tender as some I've had in Texas, but the bbq sauce was flavorful and made up for any dryness. The corn, though simply prepared, was delightful, in spite of being out of season this time of year. The pickup order was prepared promptly and accurately, and the customer service was excellent. But the absolute best thing about this place is how incredibly accommodating they are of dietary restrictions, or at least my personal dietary restrictions (gluten, dairy). They also had a shocking amount of vegetarian options, including meat alternatives. Can't wait to try more things on the menu! read more
