Used to come here all the time with my grandfather 15ish years ago. Used to be an amazing restaurant, lively, service was great and most of all, the owner wasn't bored in retirement pestering his customers with inappropriate jokes that are almost never funny. Came with extended family to show them the area so it was a real disappointment. Seems like staff walk on eggshells. I wish I could say the food is even good anymore but it's not. Food was pretty good. They are small burgers, the double cheeseburger definitely can fill you up with a side of fries. The curly fries were super good, but the regular fries were kind of mushy and not the best. If you like soft fries definitely get those! Service was quick and they were nice in there. At the end when we paid at the register the guy said something really fast and we couldn't understand but it was funny. I was told they are mean in there and if they are it's an act. It's called wimpys for a reason haha. That's why so many other people's reviews say that the owner is rude. Everything makes much more sense now! Cash only so make sure you bring cash if you come visit! Hours are questionable for when they are open, when you search it up on Apple Maps it's in accurate. Food was fine--hot off the grill. So why such a poor review? Well, when we arrived we were informed that the breakfast special that morning was eggs, potatoes, toast and meat for $7.95 (as stated on menu). My husband and I went w the special, and one cup of coffee, which was $2.50. While we were waiting we noted the signs everywhere saying things along the lines of "this isn't Burger King, its not have it your way," etc. and the owner/server was heavy on the sarcasm. I get it, it's a small town and you can do what you want, and maybe this is part of your "charm" that people like...It was funny at first, but didn't stop and became annoying. He also said something to both my husband and I about being on our phones and not chatting w each other. We laughed at it the first time, but it became annoying the second time he said something (this after he said the same thing to the guy at the table behind us). What, am I at Luke's in Stars Hollow?! As I said, food was great. Got our bill, which had no price on it. I had a $20 and two $1 bills in my hand and when I went to pay he took all three bills and rang me up as $22. I was confused because he kept talking over me while I was trying to ask what the total was. I finally just shrugged and left a tip. When we were about five mins down the road both my husband and I had this "wait a minute," moment that we'd definitely overpaid, as with tax our bill should have been under $20. Maybe he assumed I was giving him my payment and tip, but he certainly didn't correct me when I set a tip down as well. Visit wimpy place every year. Food is good. However, today I think we got ripped off. We had 2 burgers; 2 cheeseburgers; one fry and one onion ring. One coffee. The bill was $35.00. My grandma would take me as a kiddo and I would continue to bring myself back as an adult with friends, lovers, etc. since. Love your food. Incredible and great after a hot day at the beach! Our server Audrey was kind and we tipped her $10 on $23. My partner and I are very kind, pleasant and tip well when we go out to eat. Period. The moment we walked in, however, Mr. Baby D Andrew man-child was extremely rude to us, didn't acknowledge our presence and stared at us for our entire meal. In fact, the only time he acknowledged us was to scold me about how to properly put the menus back on the table lol. He ended up walking out about 1/2 way through our meal, and I took joy in overhearing the entire plumbing company (who were having lunch at the counter) rip him apart about how he's lazy, terrible at his job, rude, etc. When my gf and I left, Mr. Baby D Andrew was sitting outside on his phone. I glanced at him and said, "Andrew, right?" and he said, "yeah, and you are?" to which I replied, "oh don't worry about that babes". We began crossing the street to my car as I hear him yell out a homophobic slur that begins with a D and ends in yke at me. He also said other distasteful, homophobic things to us while literally standing outside of his own parent's restaurant. Not a good look. Honestly one of my favorite kind of places. Small hole in the wall, but super popular. Its like a If You know, You know type of thing. I love sliders and will happily buy them by the bag- which we did. We grabbed a bag of sliders with cheese, a small fry and a bottled coke out the cooler behind me. Paid, waited on the bench outside and 10 minutes later someone came out with a bag for us. We took the bag down to Tierney park and ate at the picnic tables before taking a stroll to the breakwall. We have Telways down in detroit (IYKYK)- and thats always what i compare sliders to. These were tasty- but no Telways. Not enough onions on these for me. However, the meat patty was pretty nice size for being a slider. They were also cooked with just a tad of pink in the middle, which is actually great for me. Fries were fries, and coke was coke. Another place that will be a quick stop next time. read more

I'm not sure how I feel about this place. I thought the burger was really good - tender, juicy, and tasty but the atmosphere and service were far from good. The owner came up to our table once and made some corny and rude remarks. I was offended by him. Then as we were leaving, he made another rude remark. I have been coming here since I was a kid. We used to get sacks of burgers and head to the beach. I introduced my husband to Wimpy's a few years ago, and he insists on going back multiple times whenever we are in town. They have damn good sliders and fries, and it's a fixture in the community. Some might find the owner a little gruff, but it's part of the experience and we love him for it! The kids that he hires are super sweet, and everyone works their butts off. Today my wife and I walked into Wimpy's and wanted to sit inside (while standing at the STOP sign). While we were waiting to be seated, I'm assuming the owner asked us if we wanted to be seated inside or outside, I requested to be seated inside and pointed to an open booth. This is when the owner in a Condescending smart ass tone started pointing to the stop sign talking about how I need to stand at his stop sign and asking me if I know how to read while we are both standing at the stop sign, all the while waiting to be seated. I ask myself does he ask all his customers if they know how to read, or just me for some reason. So We Finally get seated and he asked us what we wanted to drink, my wife ordered water and I asked for a Vernors. At this point I called my father in law to see if he wanted anything and the owner pointed to the menus and started again with his smart ass condescending tone that menus are for ordering food while leaning and standing over me. At this point I looked at my wife and said let's leave, we got up and he says good glad your leaving. I told him we are leaving because of his smart ass shitty attitude, he said good don't ever come back, once again I told him we are leaving because of his shitty ass attitude and left, and disengaged from this Miserable individual and walked away. As a customer I do not recommend this location and wonder if he treats all his customers like this and they just deal with him. And honestly the food isn't even that good it's just something to fill the void. I can't imagine as a business owner speaking to paying customers in this manner. Everyone in the Thumb raves about this place...I cannot find ONE reason why! $2.29 for a cheese burger, I have no problem paying that much for a cheese burger, but I do have a problem paying that much when it is the same size as a slider. The burger itself was greasy, paper thin, and didn't even cover the wonderbread bun it came on!! $2.99 onion rings...a plate with literally 7 tiny bite size frozen onion rings. For what we paid, it was not a great value. Soda drinkers beware, there are NO FREE REFILLS!! Manager(s)/Owner(s) are RUDE! Both times we went in this place we were never welcomed, we were rudely barked at saying we couldn't sit right away and they were no longer serving breakfast. What happened to hello?! Plus, the way they treated their young staff was appalling. Dogs are treated better than those poor kids. Hours are set to almost guarantee they will not make money. Close at 7 on a Friday and Saturday?!?! You close, just as everyone is getting to their cottage/into town and wants to eat...and you are closed! Cash only...no plastic...which is silly since they over price their food. Just stay away...you are better off supporting the town by going to A&W, getting your moneys worth and having great service! I've been to Wimpys several times in the past and the food is pretty good, however the last time I was there I noticed one of the cooks grabbing raw beef with his bare hands and then proceeding to immediately grab onions without washing his hands. from there he placed his hands on a number of other surfaces including burger buns, all while not having washed his hands. Wimpys is an open diner concept, meaning you can watch every movement of the cooks and, being a chef, I always like watching people cook. I lost my appetite afterwards and informed the manager on duty about my concerns. He then explained to me that the health department said they were okay to go from the meat to onions and I tried to explain he was mistaken. I called the Sanilac County Health Department to question this and to also file a complaint. I was given a call back to be informed that the establishment has been called out on that behavior multiple times in the past and that they have been told it is not proper health protocol. Me being a chef I knew this, and although I enjoy the food from time to time, I doubt I will be back. read more

My favorite burger place on Earth...and probably the universe. I've been coming here since I was a small, small, kid with a great metabolism. Now that my metabolism has caught up with me, I often throw caution to the wind and gorge on some Wimpy burgers. The place is very small, and sometimes you have to wait to get a spot, but it's worth it. The atmosphere is great, kind of a family thing with the owner palling around with the customers and staff. The burgers are amazing. Not really sliders, but not really full burgers. I can usually do about 2 or three. Fries are decent, nothing special. Lexington over the past 10 years seems to be shifting from a quaint port town to an uppity shopping villa for the rich people who own condos. It's good to see that Wimpy's Place is still Wimpy's Place. Whenever I'm in a 50 mile radius of Wimpy's, I always find an excuse to go. read more

Not a very large place so it can get packed and busy, however they will keep your drink full and make sure you are doing okay while dining. Love the food, yet the burgers aren't very big. I'm going to have to disagree with the majority of the reviews here. Maybe it was because it was an off-time -- about 2:00 on a Thursday afternoon in early September, but Wimpy's Place was exactly what I was looking for: a little local diner-like place. While I had the feeling that it was supposed to be a burger joint (thus the name of the Popeye character), I opted for the salmon burger. It was NOT fried which was a plus, and it was thick with chunks of salmon and nicely grilled. Very tasty and just what I was looking for. I also had onion rings, which I noticed came right out of a bag. But, I thought they were also tasty, albeit a bit overpriced. I didn't ask for a refill on my iced tea, but at $1.69, I wasn't terribly surprised that they didn't offer free refills; most places that do charge upwards of $2 these days. There were only 2 young boys running the grill, mostly talking to each other about some inane show that was playing on the tv. But while I was there, a local regular came in and the boys were chatting with her -- it was quite amusing and just the small town dive I was hoping to find. I It was annoying that they only take cash, though; I don't carry a lot of cash on me, so that was a bit shocking. Still, I was generally pleased so I gave the kid a couple bucks more than the bill. My daughter and I were passing through Lexington, once in March and then again in April of 2021. We stopped here to pick up breakfast-to-go (because of COVID), and we both ordered the Wimp Muffin. Two stars on account of being harassed for not acknowledging the owners giant stop sign. Me and my boyfriend went to grab some food here on our drive home from the tip of the thumb. We were super hungry and decided to give a local spot a shot. On walking in we were eager to grab a seat and there were tons of spots available so we grabbed a table and the owner started rudely asking if we knew how to read because we missed his stop sign in front of the door. He was helping a customer at the register, there was no hostess, and it was a diner so we figured it was a seat yourself type vibe. I could understand if the place was packed and we were stealing someone's seat but their were numerous tables open. We decided that we should dodge this bullet and get the heck out of there.
