We arrived at 11:00 am and before being greeted, a member of the staff told us we would not be able to order breakfast as they already had 15 orders and they couldn't handle that on top of breakfast orders. I grew up with a cottage in Lexington, and I have great memories of my dad, brother and I spending time at Wimpy's. Now I'm all grown up and my husband and I spent a weekend in Lexington this summer. I could not wait to go to Wimpy's! You know how your memories of things as a kid are sometimes totally different of how things actually were? That was the case here. The owner (Jim?) treated his young staff so horrible, it actually made me uncomfortable. I also witnessed him treating a patron equally horrible, the poor guy was just trying to make small talk. Oh, and no refills...I'm not used to that. However, drinks were still what you'd expect to pay at a place with unlimited refills. And the cash only was pretty annoying, but they conveniently have an ATM! The only reason I gave stars was because of my fond memories and because the food was good. with an owner so rude they should probably just make it one of those places where they're supposed to be rude to you. went here today and ironically i was reading the yelp reviews. the owner came over to me and yelled at me for using my phone at the table. do you pay my phone bill sir? and i said "funny i was just reading your yelp reviews" and he made some smart ass comment about them not being great and then made another comment about my forehead being big. throughout our time there the guy continued to make comments to OTHER costumers about how i was reading the yelp reviews and how he doesn't care or doesn't know what yelp is. well clearly he did care because he went on and on about it. i even heard him say "they will probably write me one right when they leave" so here i am:). the employees didn't interact with each other, joke with each other. they all seemed deathly and it's probably because of the tone that the owner sets. great food but the owner is definitely an ass and a half and definitely has had one too many shortcomings in his life:) also not very clean, the owner mans the register AND flips the burgers, no washing between. edit: when we first walked in someone attempted to greet us kindly, but the old lady with the glasses yelled at us that they're no longer serving breakfast. Low rating based on the poor level of "service" provided by the managers/owners, dining in price/food ratio and payment options. First, the wife and I travel to the thumb regularly to visit a family owned cottage and we've heard about Wimpy's quite a bit. We're always down for a good burger and we attempted to eat here a year ago, but we were rudely turned away by a blonde woman who I am assuming is a manger or owner. With one foot in the door, she barked at us to stop moving because there were no seats and we'd have to wait outside. Ok, I guess she's just having a bad day. My wife went to see if there was a carry out menu and she was again barked at by this woman and told that they didn't have any carry our menus and we should either stay outside or get out, so we got out. Why do places not want to take my money? Seriously, way to be rude to a potential customer that is willing to throw money at you. For some reason, we stopped in yesterday for a second chance and while busy, there were places to sit, and again, we barely set our feet inside the door and a man waved his finger at us and rudely told us that we need to sit still and wait to be seated. The same blonde woman that snapped at us last time grabbed some menus and yelled over to us that breakfast is over, and they're only serving lunch... which is fine, because that's why we were there, but she was just so rude about it. Not even a simple "Hi, how are you?". Nope, "We're not serving breakfast anymore, you can only have lunch". Nice people here... While we were waiting for our food, the same man that gave us the stink eye was being an ass and running his server and busing staff like they were slaves. If I were one of those kids, I would have quit on the spot and told him where to shove it. Our server was fine, but the food was not. The burgers are just a little bigger than a slider (say, slider and a half), they're extremely greasy and over-priced. $1.99 for a large slider is robbery, the pop is $2.00 an order, there are no free refills (I thought only Chinese places practiced that any more...) and, get this, they don't accept credit cards. News flash: It's 2012, get on with the times here people, who doesn't take credit cards? I hope they don't plan to stay in business much longer... Don't tell me that being in the thumb is any different than being in the Metro Detroit area. Wimpy's is the first place that I've been to in quite a few years that doesn't accept plastic. Additionally, bag in the box soda is cheap, and apparently, so are the folks that run Wimpy's. They should be getting about 350 10oz pours at a cost to them of UNDER $0.50/pour and the box shouldn't cost them any more than $50. Do the math. So, for three of us to eat one dinky grease ball cheese burger each, share two orders of small portion onion rings, two pops (we didn't get any refills) and a water, it was just over $16.00. I guess you could look at that and say it's not bad for three people, but the overall experience was horrible and it's just not enough food for the cost. And I do not consider grease to be a part of my meal. The owners are RUDE to their customer and RUDE to their waitstaff. I can not recommend this place to anyone simply based on the way that they treat their paying customers; absolutely uncalled for, and completely unprofessional. You should be ashamed of yourselves for acting the way you do. Get a credit card machine, offer free refills and go observe how every other restaurant in the world treats it's staff and paying customer. If they don't, I'll be surprised if this joint survives until next summer. Our burger craving will be satisfied by A & W from now on. My wife and I just bought a cottage in Worth. She sent me and my buddy out to find a greasy spoon. I saw this place was open after passing the older spots on 25. I was showing my buddy the downtown area and we decided to give it a whirl. There was one lady with dreadlocks working the counter, waiting the tables and cooking. That girls work was impressive. There was one goal on the car trip to Lexington, having a burger or two at Wimpy's. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I came in just minutes before close. Normally I would have just turned around and find somewhere else to go, but he insisted because the food was fast. We were rudely greated. At first that was understandable because of the closing time, but in a nutshell; the waiter was rushing us (even through our order was only two burgers). I don't know if this was our waiter's first job, he seemed to in his late teens, but taking a plate while the patron in still eating is just impolite. Dropped the check off as soon as he could, we felt very unwelcome. We were in and out within 10 minutes. What really got me upset was that when we payed the bill, he brought the change back in only a $5 bill. The service or lack there of is the main reason we won't be dinning here again. read more

Watching our lunch be prepared this afternoon the cook wore no gloves. He prepared our and others food, he also ran the register. He ran between the grill and the cash register.. he handled cash then reached into the cooler grabbed burger.. mashed it up with his bloody, cash dirty hands, he peeled cheese off the block, stuck his hands in the bun bag and repeatedly continued with those same actions, cross contaminating every food he came in contact with. He did stop, occasionally wiping his hands on a dirty rag that was lying along side the food prep area where the raw burger was stored. Yes there was a hand sink in plain sight that's WAS NOT USED. Where I would love to stop there, I can't. When my husband and I were served our burgers the buns were Blood Soggy, and the burger partly cooked. We were completely disgusted by what we just watched so we left our food on the table and closed our check. The same cook put our money in the register and went right back to touching raw food and flipping burgers on the grill. ALL of this while a (supervisor, manager?) sat in front of him on a stool and watched his actions and gave him directions to run the register. As for the rest of our service, We were seated right away, but if your familiar with Lexington you know the area isn't busy on a Tuesday as It is on a weekend. On one hand, the food was somewhat decent (the bacon sucked, don't get the bacon), it was cheap prices, I love supporting a mom and pop shop, and the decor and atmosphere was nice. On the other hand - the owner was SO RUDE! It has amazing salmon burgers that are all of the greasy burger you'll ever need with just a little bit of sass.The fries are great too- very understated. You can either eat indoors to catch the feel of a 50's diner or go out to their comfy patio in the back to feel the breeze. I will definitely make this a landmark stop on my trips to Lexington.
