However, I have consistently had issues with the administration. During a follow-up visit for my eyelid problem, the second appointment two weeks after the first visit, I was told I didn't have to pay anything. But after I got home, they called me and said they had made a mistake and that I needed to come back and pay. I paid online eventually. Last month, I received a message from his office inviting me for a 'routine eye appt'. I decided to go, planning to use my annual eye exam benefit through my vision insurance because my experience with Dr. Hartstein is good, and the office has a lot of options for glasses. When I arrived, I told them I wanted an annual eye exam. After the exam, they charged me $145, even though I had said the annual exam should be covered with my VSP benefit. They didn't budge. I paid, confused, and then asked if I could use my insurance to purchase sunglasses. They refused and said the doctor hadn't given me a prescription. I became very confused, as this had never happened before. After I got home, I discussed it with my husband and called them back to ask for the billing code. They told me it was for an 'office visit'. They didn't use my VSP insurance because they considered a 'routine eye appt' to be a follow-up related to my eyelid issue from last year, not an 'annual eye exam' as a vision exam. But NO ONE told me that both in the waiting room and during the exam. No one told me that I would be charged with other insurance, not VSP, before they started the exam. So yes, I've had two confusing experiences dealing with the administration. I won't be returning. That said, the doctor himself is good. Just be careful when visiting. Make sure you clearly confirm administrative details and your insurance coverage beforehand.

On the car ride to her post surgery exam, I suddenly realized that my mother was a PIRATE. With one…read moreblack patch over her left eye, she could have been an extra for the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Shiver me timbers... Yesterday, she had cataract surgery performed by Dr. Tae S. Kim at Cerritos Eye Medical Center. For an older woman, it has to be traumatic. But, it had to be done since she was losing vision and that alone could be very daunting. However, she confessed that the experience wasn't that bad, thanks to Dr. Kim. That's what I realized as well, having seen patients waiting for this professional, as their turn came about. I guess, eye surgery is somewhat common as a person gets older. The staff is very kind and patient, as I see one of the assistants provide detailed instructions to my mother on the medication that she has to endure for the next month or so. As I watch another receptionist answer the phone, I can tell that they're very calm and knowledgeable in the process. A couple years back, I had an eye infection and I remember Dr. Kim's kindness and thorough explanation of the eye drops and care that was needed for me to heal. I know many of us complain about the lack of thoroughness when it comes to professionals these days. A lot of them are about making that quick buck and to a certain extent, I can't blame them. It's still a business right? However, whenever I see a medical staff showing generosity in the time spent with you and the paperwork process, I get a good feeling knowing that they're probably doing the same with others. My lone issue has to be the form of payment needed for the services at Cerritos Eye Medical Center. Cash and check only? For those who don't have the money now, how does one get treatment? I know medical insurance and Medi-Cal are accepted here, but in this day and age - NO CREDIT CARDS? I'm kinda dumbfounded. Anyways, I would come back to see Dr. Kim again, since this place seems somewhat hidden to the general population. I see old people (aka seniors citizens only). Could be the hidden gem of eye care. Since, it's right next to my primary care physician - Dr. Pak @ First Medical Center, it's a no brainer for me.

Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk staff named Susanna at the Downey office has been very disappointing. On two consecutive days, I had interactions with the same staff member, Susanna, and both experiences left me feeling dismissed and disrespected. The first time, I called with a simple question about the insurance authorization process for an upcoming procedure because I genuinely didn't know how it worked. Instead of politely explaining the process, I was spoken to in a rude, impatient tone that made me feel as though I shouldn't have asked the question. The following day, I called to ask if my appointment could be moved from 9:40 AM to an earlier 8:30 AM slot because I was concerned about Friday morning traffic. I was immediately told there was no availability. I could totally tell that she wasn't checking. So I called the Arcadia call center just a few minutes later, they found the 8:30 AM appointment without any problem and changed it for me. When I called the Downey office back Susanna to ask about the discrepancy, I received different explanations, "Maybe someone just canceled it" and instead of a sincere apology, I was told, "My bad." Everyone can make mistakes. That wasn't what upset me the most. It was the repeated dismissive attitude, lack of professionalism, and feeling that my concerns as a patient were not taken seriously. I hope management addresses this because the doctors provide excellent care, and patients deserve to be treated with the same level of courtesy and respect by the front office staff

Been coming here for the past few years & they've been great! Recently got my prescription renewed…read morehowever when I picked up my first pair, the prescription was a little strong so I went back & had a recheck with the doctor. He adjusted the prescription & it only took about a week for my relensed glasses to come back, however I'm still waiting for my second pair. They've updated me that they're still on order & will let me know when they come in. How can I blame them for a shipping date they have no control over? Now my prescription is perfect! All free of charge because of the 30 day warranty if your prescription changes for any reason. They were also very understanding and attentive instead of annoyed that I had come back. The doctor is a complete gentlemen who is very thorough and everyone who works up front is extremely helpful. Also, the 2 pairs for $79 applies to certain frames, if you choose glasses that are out of the selection of frames for $79, then of course the price will be different. How are you going to get the Gucci frames with extra coating, UV protection, & scratch resistant but expect $79? Get real lmao! Make an appointment, show up early and complete your patient handout online before you go in so the wait to get in with the doctor is super quick. Overall best experience, this is why I keep coming back!

I rarely leave negative reviews, but after everything I've been through with America's Best, I feel…read moreother customers should know about my experience. It started at another America's Best location, where I purchased six pairs of glasses. I couldn't wear any of them because everything was blurry. After struggling with them for almost 11 months, I finally went back and asked them to recheck my prescription. I even paid for another eye exam. It turned out the original prescription was significantly wrong, which explained why none of my glasses were usable. To their credit, they agreed to replace all of the lenses. They said sorry! Unfortunately, that's when my experience with the Cerritos location became just as frustrating. When I picked up one of my repaired pairs, I immediately noticed one of the arms was crooked. As soon as I got to my car and put them on, I called the store. The employee I spoke with told me not to worry and said I could bring them back whenever I wanted. Later that day, I returned, and I was told the glasses had likely been damaged by the lab during the lens replacement process. I was assured they would replace the frame, but instead of replacing it outright, they told me I would only receive a $186 credit even though I originally paid $210 for the frame. Today I returned to resolve the issue and was helped by Rick. Unfortunately, the customer service was extremely disappointing. He was sitting on his phone when I walked in and acted as though I was interrupting him. After I explained the entire situation, his response was basically that he didn't know anything about it and that I could go pick out another pair. He never offered to walk me over, help me find a replacement, or explain the process. When I asked him to unlock a display case so I could look at a pair, he acted inconvenienced and annoyed. There was no professionalism, no empathy, and no effort to help resolve a problem that wasn't my fault. I sincerely hope management reviews the security camera footage from my visit because it clearly reflects how I was treated. This entire experience has been exhausting. First, I spent nearly a year unable to wear six pairs of glasses because of an incorrect prescription. Then one of the replacement frames was damaged during the repair process. Now I'm having to fight just to have the damaged frame replaced after being told it would be. At this point, I just want the last pair fixed so I can move on. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this location. The level of customer service was poor, the communication has been inconsistent, and the entire process has been far more difficult than it ever should have been.
