This was a fantastic little diner in Holland, Michigan. The place was nice and clean but a little on the small side, I could see there being a wait when they get busy. Service was very good. Everyone working here was doing a great job and seemed to enjoy doing it, lots of smiles and laughter. The food was excellent. I highly recommend the Hashbrown omelette. Truly one of the best diner style breakfasts in West MI! There was a wait, but we made the best of it chatting with some out of towners while In line. The waitress was one of the most efficient I've seen and she was so quick to top off our water, brought our food out nice and hot, and she was so friendly. The waitress mentioned and their whole wheat toast was very popular and it did not disappoint! Thick toast with generous helping of butter...so good! We came for lunch around 1:15pm on a Sunday. There was a short wait, but you cannot put your name on a list. The Denver and Windmill omelettes were delicious. My husband opted for the cinnamon roll as his side. Our waitress offered it regular or deep fried. Ummm the deep fried version was DELICIOUS. Obviously it isn't a healthy option either way, but it was an amazing treat! (It was my birthday so why not?!) I also enjoyed the biscuits as my side. I took the advice of previous reviews and ordered the hashbrown omelet with the homemade cinnamon roll. My husband got a regular omelet with the homemade white toast. Needless to say, he wished he'd gotten the hashbrown omelet. He ordered a side of sausage links and they were really good as well. The homemade white bread was liberally buttered the way we like. We found ourselves in Holland today to explore the area and do some of the typical tourist attractions when we came across this gem of a restaurant. While no reservations are taken, and the wait can be on the longer side, it is well worth it. Someone in line had recommended the Cinnamon Bun and the Hash Brown Omelette, which is exactly what we got to split. To say the food was top notch would be an understatement. This was one of the best breakfasts we have had, and we live in a big city! Not only was the food made fresh, but the prices were pretty phenomenal and the wait staff were friendly and attentive. Cute little restaurant with simple menu. No waiting area inside so a line form outdoors to get a table. We went as a party of 6 at 12 pm on a Saturday and were seated in 10 minutes. Our server Amy was friendly & steered us in the right direction. The windmill is known for their hash brown omelette which is EXCELLENT. The bacon onions and cheese is folded into a bed of hash browns instead of eggs. Also ordered French toast with their homemade white bread, it was standard French toast, no big deal. The deep fried cinnamon roll was amazing!!!! Kids meals are only $2, the 2 mini pancakes are the size of standard pancakes at other breakfast places. Excellent deal. The Windmill was a great breakfast spot. It's a small yet busy breakfast place, by time we left (no wait for us) there were 10-15 folks waiting to get inside. I ordered the Hash Brown Omelette with bacon and the Cinnamon Bun which came with it. If you're a fan of massive portions, this is a place for you! I'm a big eater but couldn't finish the omelette and had to take the cinnamon bun which was deep fried home for later. The kids got the "mini pancakes" which were far from mini and a great deal at $2.25 for their meals. Service was a tad slow, but with how busy it was that wasn't any issue and it wouldn't stop me from going back. Cinnamon bun was good but nothing to rave about. The bird's nest wasn't very flavorful and lacked salt. French toast wasn't anything special either, same as what I could make at home. We ordered: - Hashbrown Omelet - Reuben Total cost: 18.44 The omelet (full size) could have used some salt, but the portion size was good. The reuben had a fair amount of meat. I'm not sure what else to say. It's a reuben.... The food is pretty much what you'd expect if you made this stuff at home. Including the cinnamon roll. So people who are raving about this place are probably giving you the wrong opinion. It's just a diner with good service, prices, and food. It's good. Not phenomenal, and little to set it apart from any other family diner aside from things like perhaps better service than most places and the free cinnamon roll upgrade. The toast is apparently bake at the restaurant, too, as opposed to store bought bread. I'd come here again. If I were a local, I could see myself coming here regularly. As a tourist, it's fine food, and a local favorite if you want to check it out, but it's just a diner like you'd find anywhere else. We ate here as a second choice because the place we had originally planned to have lunch at was closing when we arrived. We had windmills on our minds as we explored Holand, Michigan, and the name caught our attention. I entered the address into my GPS and we headed off to find it. As we got closer we found that many of the streets were closed off because of the annual Tulip Festival that was happening while we were there. Once we navigated our way around and found a parking lot that wasn't too far away, we walked to the restaurant and were seated at a window table looking out on the main street where, as luck would have it, we were soon able to watch dancers in old-style traditional Dutch outfits including wooden shoes as they performed on the street that was closed to vehicle traffic. We ordered a variety of dishes and, while I don't recall specifically what we ate (what with all the distractions happening out in the street), everything was very good, large portions, and reasonably priced. The locals know what they have in this great little place, and don't mind the wait either for the nice meal that is waiting for them once inside. Went around lunch time, ordered a 2 eggs "Birds Nest". It was good, the grease factor was about what I expected from a hearty breakfast and their homemade bread is a must when ordering food.
