Finally a winery closer to Germantown! It's beautiful there, with nice views of the green scenery vineyard. My friend, my boyfriend and I opted for a wine tasting at $12 for 5 (they gave us 8 as a special). The tastings were small but some wines were delicious- we especially enjoyed the Portrayal, could definitely be happy with that alone. It's not cheap at $24 a bottle, but still reasonable. The wine tasting experience itself was rather disorganized with people all cramming up to the counters for the tasting. There also weren't enough staff so the waitress had to go to another wine tasting booth in the middle of the tasting to help those guests. I wouldn't call this a luxurious experience- didn't feel rushed but definitely didn't want to stay at the counter. I'm hoping those kinks get sorted out over time. Regarding the seating setup, I definitely would come back here, buy a bottle of Portrayal to enjoy while having a picnic. Give this place a shot! read more

Paella, wine, and lovely view. Just go. :-) It's a great winery with a lovely view and not too crowded, with good seating. We got lucky and there were 2 open seats with a little table - perfect for our (almost private) little meal bc we were sitting in the grass away from the patio and overlooking the view. It was about 95 degrees but still perfect. The paella was delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly. Have come twice with a fantastic experience both times (and a third trip planned soon). The process for reserving picnic tables and checking in goes very smoothly, and the staff are all friendly. The views are beautiful, and it feels spacious even though it's crowded. I love that you can bring your own snacks and water, too. Overall great atmosphere and very relaxed. I had the red wine flight, and my friends had the white wine flight - all to great reviews. I liked EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. My friends and I went to this place and though some staff were nice, we encountered very clear discrimination and ultimately a poor experience. My friend was ordering and asked the bartender for recommendations- he stared at her with a snarky look and gave a very sarcastic and judgmental response that wasn't helpful. He didn't really explain any of the wines and I noticed how night and day our experience was with this bartender compared to how others were being treated by other bartenders. This is one of my favorite places to go to with beautiful views of mountain and greenery. It is absolutely breathtaking. Make sure to check the hours before you go because during the week they close at 6 but weekends they are open later. Perfect sunset views too! I highly recommend this place for a cute date night or day drinking with the gals. You can never go wrong here. They also sell charcuterie boards, crackers, cheese, meat to eat with your wine. I usually just pack my own board because I'm vegan, but it's nice for those who do eat meat and cheese that they can just purchase them here. A relatively new winery that is kid/family friendly! It's really relaxing to get out there on a nice day so much we went there twice in a row. The staff claimed they sell real wine as in not the widely known sweetish type of wine found in the area. We had the chardonnay and sparkling white wine brut, both were good and in the $30 range. We also tried the crackers, salami and cheese that were available for purchase. They provided lots of tables and benches with a nice view of the vine landscape! Windridge are marketing themselves as kid and family friendly. No- but first, let's talk about the wine. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. There was a multi-ethnic and friendly wine drinking crowd and there were a lot of kids. The kid/family friendly push got a lot of people 's attention. And why wouldn't it? My two friends and I all have 4-5 year olds and we were PUMPED. Kid-friendly? No, it didn't take long before we were all approached individually. I took it especially personally because, these are our children we're talking about. When it comes to kids I'm a tad irrational. I'm just not having any nonsense when it comes to our kids and accommodating their needs. That's our roll as adults to help them navigate, especially at something like a winery which is typically not marketed as family/kid friendly. We all know glass breaks. Young employee: "Yeah..."she began "she could see we were doing the best we could and trying REALLY hard but could you please... Question #1: Can you keep him (my son) from going inside? When he's inside them we're liable. The truth: My son was fascinated by the wine making equipment visable from upstairs. Weren't we there to learn about and drink wine? OK, sure I can try to keep him out of your store, but wouldn't the following have been nicer, "Hey, I see your son is interested in our basement refinery. Cool! Why don't you hold his hand and we'll check it out really quick?" That would have been appropriate for a kid friendly environment and would have been fun for mommy too. Question #2: Can you keep him in the field area?" The truth: Uh, I can TRY. He's 4 and a boy. You know what would have been a better suggestion? If she had said "We have a play area right here and these are our DEDICATED staff to help you with your kids. Now, folks it doesn't take much to have a "play area". Kids that age go crazy for bubbles, p& j, balloons and outdoor crafts. That would have been the appropriate thing for a kid friendly environment to provide. Instead we got bumped up to question #3. "Can you keep him at the table?"The truth: Huh? What's that? Did I hear you right? At the TABLE? The truth: Our kids are FOUR and we're already restless. I did try because I wasn't leaving my wine, but this is the point where my good natured son started to unravel. It was all just too much. Now he's crying, now he wants to leave, one of the little girls is mad about - well we couldn't figure out exactly what, but she was giving all of us including her mother the evil eye. And anyone who's dealt with a four year old knows. God have mercy on you're poor foolish soul. There was also lots of farming equipment he'd only seen on TV and a man came out and moved the tractor to the field. I knew my son wanted to approach the tractor but I was trying to contain him (remember I was trying really hard according to the young employee). He was lit up like a new cell phone and just as ambitious. So I decided to take him over and see if the guy would "introduce" him to the tractor. Come to find out the girls wanted to come with us and get their picture taken on the tractor too. OK. Let's all go. The man was super nice and we all got pictures. But what happend after that? When we looked up again my friend was shocked to see they had roped it off after we left. Yes, people... Roped of, like Studio 54 style roped off. The truth: wouldn't tractor rides have been awesome for a kid friendly environment? Can you imagine? The kids would be talking about that for a loooong time. Hitch a wagon to that thing and let's all explore the fields. That would have been appropriate. Since the bartender used the word dry, that's what I'll use. Everything was "dry". No fruit wines. No merlot. No cabernet. There was a chardonnay I was intrigued by, but I really didn't want the other two. There was no Moscato. There was a riesling, but that too was dry. There was one port at the bottom I was would have also liked to try, but i'd had my two free tastes, so it was not to be. The fabulous wine merchant up the street would make sure my son got his "best" bottled water in a little cup while the adults were being served so he wouldn't feel left out. In Bethesda there's a wine guy that gave my baby free chips just because he was eyeing them. He immediately dropped the chips and before he could cry that merciful generous soul gave him ANOTHER bag. My man!! At a great local restaurant I was recently served a great glass of wine. It had excellent notes with a strong nose and was fruit forward, full body with a sooth finish and oh yeah, it was red. There was no juice, milk or tea for purchase for the kids to drink and it was hot. The last wine in my red flight today was the best one out of the three. What did it taste like? I dunno. I love this winery. It's beautiful and clean. It's near to us, only 30 minutes away. Their staff is friendly and nice. I emailed them for picnic tables reservations and they responded quickly. When we got to the vineyard, we got our two tables right away. Our reservations were at 1 pm, so it wasn't too busy. They let us stayed more than two hours. It is nice that they allow food and refreshments. They have food trucks if you don't feel like bringing anything. We brought charcuterie, pizzas, chips and dips, a fruit tray, a vegetable tray, and desserts. My sisters-in-law and I got white wine flights and red wine flights. Everything tastes so delicious. I like that you can taste the fruits but not sweet. Then, we end up adding two bottles of Portrayal and two bottles of Seneca. It ends up being a nice and relaxing day for everyone. Kids enjoyed their table and nice view. They were so happy when they saw the ice cream truck. Even though they were not allowed to bring sporting equipment, they had fun running around. I highly recommend this place to anyone. You don't need to go far. The wine is delicious. It's kid-friendly and dog-friendly. For sure, we will come back for another glass of Portrayal! read more

I love the place. I took my girlfriends to chill. We ordered the Riesling, Portrayal, and One other red wine I forgot. The view was incredible. Unfortunately, it was a bit hot, so we ended up going inside. The drive was not bad, and there were a lot of parking spots. I just got to be careful not to go to the end. The service was okay. I visited the Windridge Vineyards this weekend for the first time with family and friends to celebrate my Son's birthday. I find it to be a very nice and beautiful venue. The employees were very helpful and courteous to all of our needs. There was a pizza food truck there and the pizza's were cooked on the spot and was very good. It is definitely what you make of it! We had a good time, but that's because of the company, the weather, and the food we brought ourselves. You can bring your own cheese, crackers, fruit, snacks--whatever food you like. (A pro!) Self-service, except for seating--the hosts were not good at their job. They need to be trained to be accommodating and hospitable. We made a reservation, but supposedly the tables are randomly assigned. We were seated at a table by the gravel parking lot and they wouldn't switch us because "[they wanted to make sure they could accommodate all reservations]." If the tables are randomly assigned, it shouldn't matter which empty table we sit at. We noticed that many of the tables closer to the vines were unoccupied for most of the 2 hours we were there. So they could've switched us and given our table to another party that hasn't arrived. We tried to ask multiple times and they said they would let us know if they could move us depending on whether people show up, but they didn't follow up. We also later noticed while walking around that patrons at tables closest to the vines were Caucasian while those at the tables next to the parking lot by us were minorities. This is an observation and could've just been a coincidence of course. Additionally, those of us that went to buy the wine mentioned that the staff weren't friendly. Overall, the winery is clean, and amidst COVID-19 we appreciated all the precautions in place. They also have legitimate bathrooms. We thought the wine was overpriced and not worth $30 a bottle. We tried the Rosé Wine 2019 and the Chambourcin 2017 (a red wine). The rosé was pretty good, but the red wine seemed watery to us, so I wouldn't get that again. We were excited that there was a food truck for food options, but it was disappointing. If you're going there to take some cute pics for the gram, you could make it work and you'll be satisfied! If you're going for the value of the experience, wine, and service, don't bother. You're better off picnicking elsewhere and bringing your own wine. (You can't bring your own wine here for obvious reasons.) read more

Both food trucks were sold out but on the website they really talk about how integral the food trucks are. The wine was ok, but not worth the money. The $34 bottle I had tasted the same as my regular $11 bottle. Everyone here asks very prestigious, including the staff. I straight up didn't feel welcomed or valued, even though I spent a large sum of money there. If I could take my trip back, I absolutely would. I just flat out don't recommend. A new winery in the area and I'm excited. I went on Saturday to enjoy the weather and stayed for hours. Plenty of parking and a large seating area. I recommend bringing a blanket and picnic chairs. I finally was able to visit Windridge and have not been impressed with many Maryland Wineries. To start the views are phenomenal (check out my pic) and the seating has been adjusted to most of the areas get a taste of the views. The actual wine (I had chamboircin, Seneca, and Franc) were delicious with smooth finishes, which most new wineries do not have. So hats off to the wine maker. Lastly with Covid there is a wait to actually get wine and there isn't much the customers and staff can do about it.... but the staff was extremely welcoming and knew how to guide me through the wine list. I would highly recommend and a small tip. Make an online reservation before hand if you can!! read more

COME TO WINDRIDGE FOR A TASTE...OF TOTALITARIANISM Judging by some of the one-star comments about the family unfriendly management, my experience today appears to be far from unique. After getting a table and before ordering, my young son and I were tossing a baseball close together in an open area far from any other customers. An unsmiling manager with a headset on made a beeline for me and informed me "we ask that you put away the sporting equipment." Sporting equipment? Ok. It started to drizzle, I put up the umbrella at our table to keep the rain off my disabled daughter. 5 or 6 other tables did the same. No wind, and no wind in the forecast. Another employee made a beeline to our table and said "we ask that you close the umbrellas because the wind could snap them apart in a storm." What? I noted the lack of wind and asked if we could simply be left to monitor the situation. I was told, no, if we allow one to do it, everyone will. All around us were dumbfounded by the arbitrary nature of their command. We decided to leave before ordering anything, and I informed the senior manager that had first approached me how stupid it was to insist on keeping the umbrellas closed with no wind, that they were extremely unfriendly, and that this was one of the worst experiences we have ever had at a winery. He seemed unconcerned, said thank you sarcastically, and noted that "we get this type of thing a lot." I bet they do! Never coming back, and would not recommend, unless you are a Karen-type that gets a perverse kick out arbitrary rule enforcement. read more

Went here in a rainy day to enjoy some wine and cheese boards. The wine was fine, however they put paper over the cups for "the bugs" I've never seen this before but glad they did it. The place had a ton of fruit flies. There was also no cheese boards but rather a mini store of crackers, cheese, and preserved meats. All stuff that you could find at your grocery store, but less of a selection. Over all I would stick to outdoor seating if possible, and bring food as the website is a little misleading. So, we arrived on Sunday at 5:34pm, well aware that they close at 6pm. When we walked in to interior and stood in line to get wine, instead of being greeted, a heavy set blonde woman told us that they close at 6, very determined to deter us from staying and ordering. In turn, we clarified that we could still buy wine. I asked if I could do a flight, and the blonde woman turned to ask another younger blonde woman if she should still serve a flight. To be clear, she had an attitude through the entire transaction. She asked if I preferred a stem or stemless glass for the glass of rose I was getting for my boyfriend. Before I could answer "stem" she had already reached for the stemless. She was annoyed with that. I didn't get an explanation of the red wines in the flight, so I don't know what the tip was for. 10 mins later, I had to take my flight back up to the bar to request an explanation of the wines. While I was there I ordered a glass of the red and a bottle to take home and was reminded again that we needed to vacate. I was not asked if I wanted a stemmed glass and was just given a stemless which I thought was rude considering the blonde woman knew I wanted a stem previously. She could have at least asked. Anyway, I tipped well on the bottle and got 0 thank you and 0 niceties. . I made it clear from the get go that we would finish in time and not get in their way. The entire time, we felt so unwelcome. Before 6, a girl with glasses and a broom came to where we were sitting, which was next to a group of ladies who had just bought a bottle to share. She told the group and us that we needed to go. Really? So obnoxious and rude. The employees then went outside and started assertively getting people off the property. Never seen anything like it at a nice winery. Won't go back since there are SO many wineries in VA and MD to visit. Why go back to a place with rude employees and bad service. read more

My first time experience this and I'd like to say I very much enjoying this, even though me and my husband both is not a wine drinkers but we really enjoy the experience and the view of the Vineyard of course. We made a reservation at the night before and we glad we did because everyone seem to enjoy it as much as we do that it was busy and almost every seat were taken. I did pack a little of my own snacks then just got 2 glasses of wine cuz we thought there'll be a food truck but the food truck is only in on weekends which was weekdays when we went. But we definitely want to try this more often in the summer or fall or the the relaxing date again. Overall experience, I do say I'd be more prepare now that I know. read more

We made a reservation for 1 pm on Saturday for 6 people. Suddenly at 4:40 apparently our reservation was done! Bob notified us that our table would be reserved. At 5:35 Bob approached our party to say that they did not allow outside alcohol. This was after we had spent a couple hundred dollars on more than several bottles of wine. We didn't have any "outside" bottles visible, why did we need policing. Is he just randomly checking the color of everyone's wine? The vibe, atmosphere, and wine was amazing, Bob was not. I would like to give this place more stars but unfortunately I cannot as my friends and I experienced some discrimination. I made a reservation for 4 people days in advance and requested to be seated under the pavilion. When we walk up to be seated, we are taken to the completely opposite side in a secluded area where no one else is sitting and where we cannot see any of the views of the winery. I go back up to the stand and state that our reservation was under the pavilion. The host acts confused as he states that each reservation does not list where the guest is supposed to be seated...which is a lie because the reservation lets you pick your location when booking. The host continues to act confused as if he doesn't have anything available and that the reservation got mixed up. He then tries to take us to another secluded area that is very far away from the bar, so we would have had to walk very far to even order wine. After minutes of unnecessary confusion, we were seated in the main section under one of the benches. The whole time we were seated there were numerous seats under the pavilion. Not sure why we couldn't get the location we asked for. Very upsetting, very unprofessional and rude read more

I had a party to celebrate my retirement at the Ithaca Pavilion. It was fabulous! A beautiful setting and great wine. All my guests commented how lovely it was. The server was fantastic!
