So convenient being just steps to the beach, and with them providing their own lounge chairs and umbrellas, it really took pressure off us while having our baby with us. The room was comfortable, and the views were unmatched. We loved relaxing on the patio, listening to the waves crash onto the beach. The indoor heated pool was a great addition, and we loved being able to get out of the sun for a little, while still enjoying the pool. The food truck on premises ran by @steven_paluba_chef was delicious! Voted "Best Food Truck" and "Best Lobster Roll" on the Southfork by @danspapers of course we had to try the lobster roll on the beach, and breakfast another morning on the hotel's patio and bbq area. With just a short drive to town, it was easy to access everything, and we actually enjoyed being secluded from the town. We would HIGHLY recommend this spot for anyone looking for accommodations while planning your next trip to Montauk! We booked a garden room. It was a lovely clean room. Check in was easy and we got into our room early. It has Adirondack chairs outside overlooking the ocean. There used to be a food truck for coffee and breakfast if you don't want to make in your room. The ocean is steps away. I love you can make a beach fire. We will stay here again. The best for me is the lifeguard. I will never get in the water alone. Most hotels do not have lifeguards! This is awesome! read more

Our stay at Wavecrest was amazing! Our room was on the beach and listening to the waves crash from our room was outstanding! Exactly what we wanted! Siracha Steve and his Wave Crave food truck was a great way to start each day. Coffee was strong and delicious and there are lots of great menu options to choose from. Make sure to ask him about the dishes named for his grand kids! Beach chairs were provided and there were fire canisters making it easy to have a fire on the beach! You could buy wood at the resort store. Walking the beach was also great since we had it mostly to ourselves in a mid-week early June visit. Montauk was a nice place to visit with many great restaurants and bars and shops. The lighthouse was a highlight of our trip! The views and hiking trails made our trip! I can't say enough good things about Wavecrest for an old school beach vibe. Clean, comfortable, and very affordable! It was perfect for my wife and me!!! read more

Came here for Memorial Day weekend. The location is great, it's beach side and they have a pool. The pool is indoors that opens up to the courtyard but it's pretty heavy with chorine. They don't serve food so you have to bring your own or order from the food truck that closes at 3pm (very good food). It's not fancy but nice, but it's nice and simple. I would recommend staying on the top floor because even though there are signs that say quiet hours are between 10pm-8am the people upstairs had after parties two nights in a roll that lasted past 2am. It sounded like a stampede and the staff won't do anything about it even if you let them know. The phone in our room didn't even work, you have to use your cell. read more

The receptionist was very accommodating and the place was, what I was looking for. Quite, clean and it all the rooms have an ocean view.

The good is the location, especially from the Dune units. The bad is the response from the office. We couldn't get our screen to close on the deck. I let the office know and they said they would send someone. Well no one ever came and the screen eventually fell off the track. read more

Great location and wonderful amenities. Very clean and the beach is literally right outside your door. I definitely recommend this hotel!

We've been to Wavecrest 4-5 times over the years and we are never disappointed. One negative things I will say is the Pull out sofa mattress' (we had family in other rooms) are pretty worn down so be prepared for bars in your hips and back. Almost didn't stay here due to the middling ratings of this place but glad we did as it turned out to be much nicer than the ratings indicated. Consisting of 4 buildings - Beach Dune and Waters Edge ocean facing and closest to the beach, Panorama and Overlook set back a bit at an angle but on higher ground. We had a 2nd floor sea view studio with two queen beds in Panorama facing SW down the beach, overlooking the greenery of the state park next door (paid more for the view - $410 before tax - pricey but this is Montauk in July - even though in mid week the beach here is comfortably uncrowded). Dune building may have the best ocean front views but I like our higher up view. We had room 146 but if you could get the one on the corner - 145 - then it'll be even better with two sides). Room is fair sized and with grey wood floors, cool sea foam colors, tiny bathroom, kitchen area (minimally equipped) and furnishings in decent condition (the balcony door insulation on the outside a bit torn so at first we thought the door was broken but it just didn't look too good). There's one armchair, table with three sturdy wooden chairs, 32 inch TV and chest of drawers. Closet. Sink outside bathroom. WiFi quite slow although seems to be able to connect on the beach in some spots. Aircon worked perfectly. Best thing about the room is the two queen beds good for sharing (most other resorts tend to only have one bed with pullout couch), and the large spacious balcony with two lounge chairs and two regular plastic chairs. You almost don't have to go out onto the beach as it is so pleasant to just sit on the balcony and enjoy the scenery. But if you do, they provide free beach chairs and big umbrellas (the attendants will set everything up for you). No beach towels however so need to bring your own (for that matter in the room there's no bath products beside soap and the towels were thin and old). No meal option at the resort but there is a food truck by the beach selling drinks and wraps - tried the spicy chicken wrap - about $11 - not bad at all and large enough portion for two to share. There is also a good size deck area with tables to eat on if you prefer not to eat on the beach. read more

My friend and I stayed in room 164 in October 2020. This is a newly refurbished studio at the Watercrest Resort. This room is so awesome. Firstly, the view is out of this world. The ocean front location with the expansive beach, and crashing waves are spectacular and relaxing. We sat on the balcony sipping wine and having cheese and crackers. The location and room has a vibe of relaxation and serenity. The ocean light blue walls with wainscott trim is accentuated by a spectacular 60 inch TV mounted just correctly on the wall so night time TV watching from the bed is easily acheived. Lying on the bed, we felt like we were in heaven. Upon checking the mattress out, surprisingly this was due to the fact that this was a Sterns and Foster hybrid mattress that makes you feel like you are at The Ritz or St. Regis Hotel. A night time treasured surprise. There is an updated bright white kitchen which included an induction cooktop, microwave, toaster and full size refrigerator. This was really helpful to store our food and drinks for the days we were lazy and did not go to town. The countertop, backsplash and cabinets are top of the line. There was no corners cut and room #164 is an exceptionally inviting hotel room. The room was immaculate and at the time with covid the instructions were clear and were followed by all. Extra towels were no problem. The walk to the beach was less than a minute. There were chaises and umbrellas offered. The staff was exceptional from check-in to check-out. This was a great mid week vacation from the inland covid boredom. read more

Wonderful location with private beach. The "garden suite" we stayed in was disappointing to a certain degree. The pics on the website show two beautiful bedrooms plus a bathroom and living room/kitchen area. It was one bedroom with a kitchenette in it, and a bathroom, with what was definitely another room that was obviously a gathering place. They stuck a bed in it along with the couch. We didn't realize that the person/people on the couch would be sharing our room. That did not work out. Also, the people in the sitting area with a bed had to walk into the other bedroom to get to the bathroom. We are friends and family, but not the kind that share rooms and beds. We called at least 6 months in advance to book the room; they had plenty of rooms. Another suite our friends had, had a beautiful view of the ocean and the 3 rooms promised. They booked about 6 weeks in advance. Also, there was nothing in the way of amenities besides towels. Our advice is stay in a garden suite as long as it's not room 117. read more

In terms of location you can't beat this hotel. Steps from the beach and they even go and set up chairs and umbrellas for you if you ask. In terms of comfort and cleanliness, I probably wouldn't stay here again. The beds were very uncomfortable and the pillows were paper thin. As far as cleanliness the room was pretty filthy. Dirty spots on the wall next to the bed, the tv, a huge smudge on the wall in the bathroom and the floor of the shower was bordering on black. The doorframe around the bathroom probably hasn't been cleaned since the hotel opened. I have a 2 year old son and didn't want him to touch anything in the room. I was staying here with family and someone else had paid for my room. We didn't get into the room until late at night otherwise I would have gone right to the front desk and complained. I've honestly never stayed in such a dirty hotel room and probably won't stay here again. read more

I gave this resort five stars because it's the one resort that maintained the relaxed experience that drew everyone to Montauk! They are upgrading each year, the rooms were very clean, the owners are so very nice, it's right on the ocean with staff bringing beach chairs/umbrellas to waters edge. Lest not forget delicious breakfast/lunch at the Wave Crave food truck with Steve is equally as nice right in the parking lot. This place was such an amazing stay! The location was immaculate with a few second walk down to a beach which was pretty private and not packed at all! They bring you lounge chairs to sit on and even have a food truck everyday ! The room was super clean and check in and out was easy. I stayed here a few times. It's more of a family resort. It's a co-op motel. Every room is different. It is by far not as luxuries as say gurneys. It's price is 1/3 of what other oceanfront motel are charging. If don't know of any other better hotel for the price that's on the ocean in Montauk. The food truck is amazing. read more

The Wavecrest Resort is a resort in the same way Alcatraz was a bespoke island getaway nestled off the coastline of San Francisco. Alcatraz closed, as a penitentiary, in 1963 - which also appears to be the last time these rooms were renovated. Neither the sliding glass door nor screen door locked. The room's front door is a single consumer-grade doorknob offering no feeling of safety or security whatsoever. You have a stronger lock on your bathroom door at home. Also like a jail, the rooms are stacked on top of each other with no padding or anything resembling insulation between a room on the ground floor & its neighbor above; meaning you can hear every footstep on your ceiling if you're staying on a ground floor unit - which we were. So imagine the surprise of your entire room shaking, at 5:45 AM, because the neighbors above you have three small children running an impromptu obstacle course before sunrise. Then imagine popping earplugs in & they don't work because your entire room is vibrating with every stomp, jump, thud, chair scrape, tackle & miscellaneous hijinks. Then imagine you pick up the house phone, to dial the office to report the noise, & there is nothing but static & none of the phone's numbers or buttons work. This phone, by the way, you will find on the third highest shelf on the edge of your kitchen where no phone belongs. So instead you dig your reservation out of your email account & dial the main number, that is written in triplicate, on your reservation confirmation email & it rings indefinitely. So you call again. You call again. You call again. Finally, you call again. No one picks up. You spend the hours you should've been sleeping attempting to call mgmt listening to a never-ending call ringing & the daycare death match above. You have gotten roughly 4.75 hrs of sleep. Finally around 9 AM someone appears behind the front desk. You tell her the above series of calamitous events. She takes it all in, pauses, then tells you there's nothing she can do & you technically stayed the night & you should've called the number. You tell her you did call the number. She asks, "Did you call the emergency number?" You ask, "What emergency number?" She says, "It's posted outside this office on the wall." This office wall, btw, is a disconnected free-standing structure 100 yards away from your room that requires you to get fully dressed, walk outside, walk up a hill, locate the number, & call it. You tell her you think emergencies are more fire, flood, electrocution, medical, dismemberment & imminent death. She says, "You should've called the emergency number & you stayed the night & there's nothing we can do about loud kids." You ask to switch rooms to somewhere quieter with perhaps no one above you. She tells you she can't do that. You ask for a refund given that you've been more awake than asleep & she tells you that you stayed the night & that's that. You ask for a manager & she tells you the manager will be in on Tuesday. So you cancel your remaining day of staying there, having blown $400 to listen to the upstairs romper room MMA match that no one will take responsibility for, & rent a room at another establishment for half the price & none of the attitude in a way livelier part of Montauk. Avoid. Avoid at all costs. They are not empathetic people who only care about separating you from your money. read more

Stayed here with a friend this past Thursday to Sunday. The stars are for the clean and updated room, beautiful beach + views, provided chairs + umbrellas, and the awesome food truck. I would give five stars if not for the fact that we were given the wrong room and then gaslit by the rude front desk about it. We arrived at 9:30pm on Thursday, and found we were given a room with one bed and a pullout. We explicitly booked a room with two beds, so we went back to the office and kindly showed the front desk our online confirmation in which it said we were paying a rate for two beds. Instead of apologizing, the woman at the desk was very rude and told us there was no way for them to know we wanted two beds. She said that if we wanted two beds we were supposed to include a note on the booking request and then they would let us know if that was available or not. Without a "note" they just assume one bed for two adults? We consistently asked how we should have known to leave a note, if we selected a 2 bed rate and received a booking confirmation that said 2 beds. She continued to tell us we booked it incorrectly and they only have one bed rooms and it's the same rate... so, tough luck. Very disappointed in them blaming the customer instead of apologizing at the very least. Beware when booking with this place that just selecting your desired amount of beds is apparently not a guarantee that you will get them. read more

My family has been going to the wavecrest for the past 8 years. It's a family friendly environment and beach access is what has kept us going back. I booked a special birthday outing for my husband and children at the wavecrest October 22 to 24. Unfortunately due to lack of management oversight at night, the trip was a disaster. On October 23 a group of unruly and rude guests made it impossible for my family to sleep. It's unacceptable and takes away from the overall experience. We are willing to put up with dated rooms because of the property but not with the messy people . read more
