This is a super cute dessert place! I came here with my boyfriend to get ice cream on a super hot Chicago day. I had a scoop of oreo on a waffle cone, delicious! My boyfriend had a school of coffee ice cream on a waffle cone. They also have a ton of sweets, candy, and fun chocolate dipped desserts(twinkies, Oreos). When I first walked in Windy City Sweets, I was transported back to my school-age candy store, minus the stuffed animals. My 2 friends and I would stop in and get a snack or treat of penny candy. If only one of us had money, then that person would buy something that could be divided up 3 ways. At Windy City Sweets one afternoon, I was there just as school let out, and there the kids were, doing the exact same thing my friends and I used to do, 50 years ago. It was a beautiful thing to see. One girl was deliberately excluded from the rest. The person behind the counter spotted her just as I had decided to buy her treat for her. I don't like mean girls or bullies. The person behind the counter let her have her treat on the house. It brought tears to my eyes, as I thought, what a wonderful place this is. Good sweets, kind staff. Who can ask for more? Last week I received a call. "Adriane this is ___, I was wondering if you wanted to get together." Me: "I have no idea who you are." Him: "I took you to Windy City Sweets." Me: "Doesn't ring a bell." That's how mesmerizing this old fashioned candy shop is! It out shines even your company! I am somewhat of a regular. They have everything to satisfy a sweet tooth. Walls of candy by the lb., infinity flavors of Jelly Bellys (heck ya!), truffles, s'mores, several kinds of fudge, old school candy, gum, Pez, a bunch of super cute stuffed animals (that's SWEET), turtles, turtles made with macadamia nuts, lollipops, fresh caramel apples, licorice, ect... Now, the home made ice cream and fro yo is phenomenal. They have 6 kinds of cones. Waffle, chocolate covered, and a FREAKING pretzel cone!! Whoever thought that up deserves a high five. The shakes and sundaes are nothing to sneeze at either. A pal is in love with their brownie sundae. In warmer months there's sidewalk patio seating so perfect for a date or get together. Haha unless you're like me and easily distracted by tasty treats. Located by various public transportation and street parking. My new favorite spot in Lakeview! The entire area is very much alive at night, I was so surprised to see this many people out on a Wednesday. Parking is very very hard.We searched for parking for a good 6 minutes. We ended up parking about 7-8 minutes away and walked over. Speaking of the store itself, I've never been surrounded by so much candy! Literally candy from the floor all the way to ceiling. They've got old candies, new candies, extinct candies, future candies, religious candies, sports candies etc etc. They have I think about 3 tables inside that can seat 4 each. During the summer I heard they put chairs/tables outside. Their ice cream is really really good and their portions are generous. However, the cones are pricey and expect to pay $5+ for one scoop of ice cream with a cone. I think the cup is less then $5. I got single scoop of "Pirate Treasure" ice cream scoop in a M&M cone and and it's definitely unique (paid $6 and some change). Their portions are very generous, you get what you pay for (well almost, I still think cones are pricey). The banana split is really for two people. The customer service is phenomenal. The young lady who took care of us was very patient. One of my friends sampled many different types of ice cream flavors and she didn't show any signs of annoyance. Also, the manager was nice enough to come out and talk to us. He told us he was very happy we went out of our ways to come to this store. The store closes at 10:00, but we stayed until 10:30 and they didn't even bother kicking us out even though we were the only ones their. They are just TOO nice. NOTE: During the summer, they are open until 11:30. Also, when they are busy, they'll keep the door open until it dies. NOTE: You need to purchase at least $5 worth of stuff to use a credit card. Oh yes...more candy and ice cream. What more could one want? Especially on this hot 4th of July day. My friend and I wandered in here in search of some ice cream and my eyes widened when I walked into this candy land. They have it all, but because of the heat I went right for the ice cream. I tasted the birthday cake ice cream (yuuuummmm) and then checked out the fat free flavors, which is pretty typical of my experience in any ice cream stores- a taste of something bad followed by the stuff that's good for you. Well, maybe not good for you, but ya know...less fattening than the real stuff. I was disappointed to see that the only fat free flavors that had were chocolate and vanilla (cold stone even does better than that) so we left and went to Treats down the street. Now that's a place that really caters to us fat free ice cream lovers. This may be the first Windy City Fruit & Nut Co has seen of me, but it certainly won't be the last. I won't be going there for ice cream in the future, but I'll certainly be back for candy! read more

I've been here numerous times over the years, mostly for ice cream. But somehow it escaped my memory when I was recently racking my brain for locations to buy bulk Jelly Bellys. But thankfully there is Google and Yelp search to guide me, which is how WCS became my main target on a recent sweep of the city for those little pellets of joy. Windy City has by far the best selection around: 49 individual flavors plus two mixes. Now, their 49 are not THE 49 flavors, as their offerings include a few each from the Soda Pop Shoppe and the Coldstone lines (booo). That means that some of the regular flavors get left out, including caramel corn, which is one of the two flavors for which I was searching. Tragically, their website lists caramel corn among their offerings, but it was not in the bins, and the clerks told me that there were no flavors "in the back" that were not displayed on the floor. They also gave me the standard unaffected line that you often hear from ground-level employees, "Oh, I guess the website's out of date then." No apology, of course. (These were college-age dudes who clearly didn't give a damn. Come on, show some empathy--you work in a candy store for heaven's sake. The girls over at Candyality are always cheerful.) I was pretty annoyed that I had ridden my bicycle all the way from Uptown after work just to get these things, but mostly I was disappointed on behalf of my #1 super-special jelly bean eater, whom I had really wanted to surprise with one of her favorite flavors. So web-caveat emptor, I guess. You can order products through the website, so I wonder what would happen if someone tried to buy caramel corn Jelly Bellys. Still, you can't beat the selection, so despite the questionable customer service, this will still be destination #1 for Jelly Bellys in general. Besides, they have ice cream and a boatload of other candy. But we'll go to Candyality for good attitude and to jellybelly.com for bulk caramel corn. read more

This is a fun "old school" looking candy shop. They have a huge selection of candy from all different eras. My kids went crazy when it came to selecting candy. They also have a counter which has fudge and chocolates and ice cream. I think that I spent over 30 minutes in there and each kid left with a lots of candy and probably sour tummies at night. I found a place that sells sweets. So I invited my mother to come by this place. When we enter they have a nice place. They have a full inventory that is filled with a lot of sweets. In their order station you can choose any flavors of ice cream you want. We bought ice creams and we had different flavors to taste. It's so refreshing to taste. We bought a jar of chocolate. Then I also bought a jar of gummies. Their price was expensive since we bought a lot of candies and chocolates. We also bought a box of chocolate donuts. We choose different shapes. When we taste it, it is so delicious and yummy. We can't get over what it tastes like. We highly recommend this place to those who love sweets. read more

Today is a cold winter day but never too cold for a frozen treat! Had an ice cream craving and decided to go to Windy City Sweets as it is a new to me place. I arrived to a cute little shop full of all kinds of candies and treats! I decided to get a brownie sundae with a scoop of cookie dough and a scoop of salty caramel. The ice cream was so good and the hot fudge seemed homemade, it thickened a bit on contact with the ice cream and changed into a wonderful fudge like coating on the ice cream. YUMMO! They have a few seats in there so you can take a seat and admire all the candy around you. Want to try the fudge and other chocolate treats next time! read more

I purchased an ice cream cone and the size of the scoop of ice cream was embarrassingly small, hardly even filled the cone, what a joke, not worth $7.00, next time I'll spend my money at Kilwin's for ice cream, at least they actually fill the cone, but the worst part was when I paid with my debit card the rude employee handed me my receipt and told me to fill it out and sign, I asked what am I filling out, he looked right at me, didn't rspond, and went on to the next customer, I asked agin, what am I filling out, again n response, then I proceed to look at the reciept and he was referring to applying a tip ! That is absurd, a tip for him serving me the ice cream cone that I just spent $7.00 on, absolutley ridiculous. I'm not tipping for something like that, wow, what a lot of nerve, especially since he was so rude. Will not be going back there, it's a shame, been going there 30 years, but their prices have gotten out of control as well read more

Little known, unadvertised quasi-secret: Turn right immediately when you enter, look in the lower right corner of the ice cream counter, and there you will find miscellaneous, assorted pints of ice cream, sorbet and frozen yogurt for $2.99 ea. You never know what you'll find there, and sometimes the handwritten notations on the container tops are hard to read, or, you have to ask the guys who work there to remove the top layer of them to see what else they have. Now how kickin-the-shit out of the $4 and $5 pints of average crap sold at Jewels or 7-11 is this? And this stuff is GOOD. Score! read more

It's way too easy for me to spend a lot of money at Windy City. I mean, it's CANDY and ICE CREAM and NUTS and stuff. I am usually pretty good about staying away until the holidays (Christmas & Easter, in particular) roll around--then I, uh... make up for lost time, I guess, and go crazy buying things for my family. It is simply the one-stop candy shop that allows me to get all of their favorites in one friendly store. They have Mamba, Jelly Belly beans, Bit O' Honey and homemade peanut butter cups for Nick. They have Necco wafers (assorted AND chocolate), all manner of nuts and other good old fashioned candy for Dad (dots on paper, those waxy bottles with the nasty syrup inside, those weird flying saucer thingies with nonpareils inside). They tempt me with chocolate covered pretzels, toffees and other handmade chocolate delicacies. They even have wide selections of gummy and hard candies, fudge AND marzipan, if that's your thing. They have gift baskets in a variety of price ranges, too! Wowsers. The ice cream is a whole other issue for me. I do love me some Cold Stone, but I hate the line and the price, so I'd much rather come to Windy City. They have a great selection of flavors, I never have to wait for long and the people who work here are just so darn nice. So yeah. If sugar's your thing, you should probably visit. When I peeled myself off the floor, I managed to sample some flavors (which they were nice about) and ended up getting the almond praline (I know, I know, pretzel was made for chocolate, but who can resist sweet, sweet almond with laces of caramel?) All their ice cream is Kosher, and they also have ice cream that isn't too sweet for those with a teeny tiny sweet tooth. Would using the phrase "like a kid in a candy store" be too cliche? Cause that's kind of how I felt surrounded by rows and rows of the sweet stuff. I wanted 5 of everything! Then my adult self (with it's adult metabolism) came back to reality and I limited myself to just one thing, a hot fudge sundae with cookie dough ice cream (if your'e gonna go, go big) which was awesome. I've been back for a small treat now and then. The peanut butter fudge is fantastic and they sell a lot of candy in bulk, including nuts, which are probably the only thing I can eat in this store without guilt. read more

My first five star review, and you better believe it! Windy City is like the Sistine Chapel of candy stores, without the painted ceilings. Although perhaps they would paint the ceilings in some kind of candy-paint if it wouldn't attract a rather large army of cockroaches to encamp upsidedown for the remainder of the summer. In any case, this place might as well be Willy Wonka's factory outlet store as they have every thing "candy" you could ever want. They have their own confectionaries like other similar places, as well as a wall of all the old fashioned hard candies, a libraic selection of Jelly Belly's, gummies, twizzlers, candy ropes, candy canes, candy cigarettes (I used to love these, so rebellious in the first grade), and even gummi pizzas and hot dogs. To top it off, they even have some of the best ice cream and fudge in the city, and always a rotating assortment of seasonal candy gifts. For instance, I have never seen so many different sized chocolate Easter bunnies in a non-dream state. Or perhaps you have had that chocolate Easter bunny nightmare, in which case stay very far away from here. In truth, I try to avoid this place only because it's around the corner and if I went every day I would be fatter than the Blue Ribbon swine at the fair, but when I do go I enjoy that emotional release we all sometimes indulge in when the less scrupulous side of our nature applies the nitrus oxide to our reason and common sense and I go on a candy spree, buying more sugar-based items than should even be allowed by law. It is just too much fun, and I know I won't be back again for another month or so. The service can sometimes be a little sore, but I am sure these folks deal with a lot of gawkers and are tired of seeing grown adults revert into "kids in a candy store" every week for eight hours a day. The prices, well, usually I am so enraptured by all the endorphins rushing through my skull and veins that I could easily set up a tab directly linked to my bank account if they provided the option. But, I restrained myself and after taking a long look around zeroed in on my reason for being (there); Taffy Apples. I got one small regular and one small chocolate covered. Both delicious. Windy City Sweets is a lot larger than I expected. Every inch of space is covered with candy deliciousness. Lots of old favorites, some new favorites, chocolates, ice cream, taffy apples, and other seasonal goodies. Seems like they have pretty much every sweet you can want (the food kind at least). It has a perfect balance of pumpkin and nutmeg and was super creamy (my phone just changed that word to freaky...what are you thinking iPhone?). The little fudge bars are incredible, I mean, it's fudge, how can it not be? There's rows and rows of candy and it makes me just want to say f*** it all and just dive into it and bury myself in the candy and then eat my way out, only to find myself being surrounded by police officer and being arrested for just being a girl who likes her sweets. Aside from the fact that you can find ANY type of candy in here, the whole place is so warm and welcoming that I don't ever want to leave! I believe the emotions behind the phrase "kid in a candy store" originated here. This is such a fun and interesting locally owned store with so much candy and fun it makes a person want to explode with happiness. My first time coming here was of course during the worst blizzard in 50 years, when my roommate and I decided we needed ice cream and candy to survive. We literally went through hell to get there but it was very much worth it. The staff was very nice and helpful and the selection of locally made treats and candy was endless. I settled on chocolate covered sunflower seeds and a moose tracks ice cream cone. I could tell the ice cream was made fresh because there were still little pieces of ice in it. If you ever have the chance to eat an ice cream cone in the middle of a blizzard you should try it. It never melts! read more
