I love this place! You get an assortment of yummy candy and the best part you don't get any pushy sales people trying to get you to buy more. The people behind the counter are helpful and friendly. The prices are reasonable for some of these sweet treats. And you don't just have candy but cookies, malts, shakes and hot chocolate. They take credit cards but you have to spend more then $5. Great fudge. I tried two kinds, chocolate walnut and pistachio maple? I'm constantly watching what I eat, so I bought tiny 1" cubes of each kind. It costs a little over $2. Robin M., is correct, they charge even more if you buy bite size pieces. I think that's kinda silly, but the fudge was really, really good. My kids love sweets or any kind of chocolates. That's why I am very thankful that I discovered this shop. They have many varieties of candies and chocolates. It is not the common product that you can see in any store. They have unique products that you can only see in this store. They have a nice staff also, they help me on choosing the right product that they think will be a good shot to my kids. They said there are many best seller in their shop and must try it because they said that for sure the kids will like it so much. And thankfully, they love it! They ask for more, so I am sure that I will come back here again. I will buy more for myself also. Because I tasted it once, and I totally love it, especially the brownies. Windy City Sweets is a happy place. All the fabulous candy from childhood favorites to amazing chocolates is beautifully displayed around the store and gives me a warm & fuzzy feeling. The owner and staff are super nice, which makes visiting even more sweet. Windy City did all of the gift bags for my wedding. Windy City Sweets might be my favorite place in all of Chicago. This here's an old school candy store and ice cream shop, y'all. The ice cream is fantastic (so are the milkshakes and ice cream sodas. OMG.) and the candy selection is huge. They have lots of packaged and/or brand-name candy including a jelly belly wall, as well as a great selection of fudge and handmade candies. The people that work here are AWESOME. I've come here after some pretty serious BYOB-ing at a nearby restaurant (for WCS is open late!! Ok, Ok, I paid almost $6.00 for ice cream, but it was SO worth it. My friend took me here after the pride parade. I said I wanted ice cream and she knew exactly where to go. I got 1 scoop of chocolate/peanut butter and 1 scoop of heath/carmel in a waffle cone that was dipped in chocolate and sprinkles. I feel like it is completely moot for me to describe the caliber of this meal. Suffers from what all ice cream places do in the summer.... Stupid people taking up more space than needed. I often feel I'm the only one aware of my surroundings. I fail to understand why everyone must be present at the checkout counter even though one person did the ordering and only one person is paying? JUST MOVE ALONG PEOPLE. But with that being said.... I love this place. Tons of yummy candy and ice cream. Awesome nuts at great prices and tons of yummy hand made candies like marzipan and peanut butter balls. Not your standard candy shop, they carry something to suit just about any pallet. They also carry some of the old fashioned stuff, like those sugary cigarettes. I live less than a block away from Windy City Sweets, which is a blessing for my taste buds and a curse for my waistline. I come here for one thing: their hot fudge. It is incredible. Their homemade ice cream is good, but in my opinion doesn't outshine Paciugo's gelato, or Bobtail's ice cream, both of which are down the street. Where Windy City Sweets wins is with their hot fudge, which is something very special indeed. My one complaint is their pricing. Their menu says that toppings cost an additional $.75, however, when I order hot fudge as a topping, they charge me for a sundae despite me only wanting the fudge. Also, a single scoop ends up costing $4.35 with tax, which seems a little pricey to me. I thought that this place was any ice cream parlor, but when I stepped in, I was pleasantly surprised! It was set up like a candy shop, with glass jars of different types of candies, ranging from gummy sours, old school candies (like Pop Rocks and Dip), to Jelly Belly jelly beans. There were also handmade caramel-covered apples, fudges, chocolate covered pretzels, and ice cream. I ordered the single scoop of their Pumpkin Pie ice cream - it was not as creamy as I expected, and the plastic spoon wasn't doing much (I would much have rather have a regular sturdy stainless steel spoon); it tasted like pumpkin pie, and had a good cinnamon kick to it. I was satisfied, nonetheless. You can also try a small spoonful of samples before you make a final decision. The single scoop was definitely single, and could have been larger for about the $4 I paid for it. At the counter, there are also candies that are on sale due to the fact that they are broken or that they just want to get rid of it for the next batch. I also ordered their homemade caramel apple, and it was like any other taffy apples you're used to, but I prefer the original Taffy Apples you get at stores - the apple for this one wasn't as sweet and juicy, and was more tart than the usual. I also tried my cousin's chocolate covered s'more, which had a big marshmallow, chocolate, and a big dollop of peanut butter - amazing! My husband had the Cookies 'n' Cream, and he thought it was better than Oberweis (my thoughts exactly as well); my other cousin had the Butterfinger ice cream, and it was pretty decent - had bits of Butterfinger bits throughout a caramelized infused vanilla ice cream. Granted, this place is neat. It contains any sweet you could ever want - ice cream, truffles, caramels, bulk candies in granola pouring machines, chocolate covered things, fruit flavored things, malted things, kosher things, vintage things, etc., etc. Yet all three of the things we had were just too sweet for me. And yes, I realize that sweets are supposed to be sweet at a sweet shop. But the best ice cream I've had has not made my teeth ache, and this black cherry - while fresh-tasting and rich - was also achingly sugary. Same for the orange truffle (may as well have been creamsicle) and the sea salt coconut cream caramel (definitely tasty - how could it not be with that lineup - but still, the coating of chocolate was very sweet). If you're the type, come here for the nostalgia. They've got candies that you had when you were really young and haven't seen since and probably won't see anywhere else. My go-to place for sugary treats for friends and coworkers at Christmas, part of the wonderful East Lakeview business association deal where you can get a $50 dollar credit card for spending $300 in the area. Great homemade and packaged items, the candied nuts are the best. Ice cream is perfect here in the summer. I'm partial to candy stores, so these 5 stars are very biased. Staff is generally very friendly. I have seen them a bit bitchy on a couple occasions, but they're pretty cool with me. Awesome sales. If you go after a holiday, they will have all this stuff in bags for like 80 cents. I love buying those bags and dumping the delights in to a bowl at home and nibbling for days. Best item: sour santas I'm not a huge gummy fan, but these damn santas should be YEAR ROUND! Their ice cream is pretty good, too. And the caramel apples are small, nothing like Rocky Mountain, but they're good. They will put combinations of candy in to little gift containers and they look really nice. read more

I've never been in this place and thought "wow, that was amazing." Based on that I can't give it more than three stars. That being said, I've also never gone in and left unhappy. The last time I went I had some pumpkin ice cream. It was good. In the summer it is nice to sit outside and enjoy your snack if you can find a seat.
