So happy it's finally open after that terrible fire. The interior still looks the same but brighter with tables and booths available to sit at. I opted for carryout and was very kindly helped. In the 80's I grew up in the neighborhood across the street . I would sneak out and ride my bike here whenever my mother cooked something I hated for dinner (ie. Beans and rice or that cabbage medley she loved to make). I always got two eggrolls and if i could afford it the sweet and sour chicken. This place is truly a staple of my childhood. Having recently moved back into the area and not finding any Chinese food that could compare I was eager to come and eat. I was promptly and friendly greeted. Not knowing about the fire, the inside looked very familiar to how I remember. I got my old order. OMGOSH, I have been immediately blasted back to 1988! Everything tasted the same. Ordered this food got home and seen that this was old chicken rebattered and refried the color of the sauce didn't look right it's usually a vibrant pink today it was a light brown color, I had to take it back to get refunded, Will not be eating here again. I really wanted to celebrate the reopening of Wing Hong after the fire, but unfortunately the service was so bad I will never go back. I sat in the waiting area over a half hour for take-out, while other customers who placed their orders after mine received theirs before me. When I finally got my order, pre-paid with receipt in hand, the lady from the back yelled at me "you pay!" She actually grabbed the bag from my hands while the lady at the register said nothing. I met up with a couple of friends for dinner on Christmas. It was my first time coming here. This place has been here a very long time, since 1966. this place is in a strip mall, but don't let that scare you off. When you walk in, it needs a makeover. But moving past that, the lady waiting on us was on top of it even tho they were super busy. I got the boneless almond chicken. It was a lot of food, and it was cheap and good. Nice to have a dine in Chinese restaurant in the area. This place has been around a long time and it shows but it was clean and the food was good. The Wonton soup that comes with the meals is a bowl. It has home made wontons and 3 good size ones. This is the best Wonton soup I have had. The dinners are family style. My house special Lo mein dish had 3 meats and was very big. 2 of us ate this and we still took home half of it. The Steak Ala Steak was good as well but I liked the Lo Mein dish better. It is kind of pricy but you get a lot for your money. The also have home made rolls and will take special requests. read more

I was cracked some salt pepper squid and their sesame balls to go. I have been craving sesame balls for weeks months now. They are open until 11pm on a Saturday, that's quite late for a Chinese restaurant. I wasn't expecting too much out of the dim sum here, since last time I came here (~ 5 years ago) they were mostly serving the Americanized stuff (think General Tso's chicken and fried wonton strips). However, I was pleasantly surprised! In fact, I'd say it's the best dim sum in the metro Detroit area now (which sadly isn't saying much, but it was actually good). The decor and atmosphere is definitely dated and unappealing, but don't let that deter you. I came with my parents and we ordered a good variety of dishes: har gao (steamed shrimp dumplings), shumai (steamed pork and shrimp dumplings), steamed chicken feet, baked bbq pork bun, baked pineapple bun with custard filling, pan fried pork and vegetable buns, bean curd rolls, red rice roll, and stir fried rice noodles with beef. Everything was fresh and pretty lean, which is not always a given for dim sum. Everything was cooked well and had the right flavors. For the rice noodle dish, they used fresh rice noodles instead of dried, which makes a big difference. I must say, I wasn't a fan of the rice roll, since there were shiitake mushrooms all over inside, and the flavor permeated the whole thing (I hate mushrooms, especially those). The dim sum here is authentic, fresh, and tasty. The noodle dish we tried was also excellent. Prices are reasonable and portion sizes are good. I will definitely be back in the future! read more

We've passed by this joint plenty of times. Taking my husband back and forth to work at the hospital at 13 and Woodward. Only reason why we showed up is because we heard they were slinging Xiao Long Bao. If you haven't had XLB, it's one of the bestest dimsum food ever! Otherwise known as food dumplings, these guys are right at the top of the food chain as far as I'm concerned. So we're here now and we're ready to chow down. Chinese Broccoli: Pretty good,, we usually order these as a palette cleanser. Curried Baby Squid: I adore this plate. The ones served here I could order again and again. Definitely super strong. Bean Curd: Super yummy!! Perfect crunch texture of the tofu skin. Lovely sauce as well. She Mai: It's pretty good. My friend ordered this because she's hella basic, but at least I got to taste it and it was actually pretty good. Salt and Pepper Squid: This dish is one of the strongest dish we've had on the table. An explosion of flavors in my mouth. Xiao Long Bao: These guys are pretty good. It definitely works! I would totally order these over and over and over again. From what I know is that there's only two restaurants that serve XLB in the Metro Detroit area. This one, and the other is out in the farmlands. The other spot had me trying to make a reservation and required me to tell them what I want to eat so they can prepare it. Sound's like a lot of work, probably will never go to that one. In Michigan, there are not a lot of dim sum options, so when Wing Hong started serving dim sum, I got super excited! They are a little less expensive when compared to Shangri-La in West Bloomfield. Everything was fresh and tasty. Some of my favorites were the egg tarts, pan fried garlic chives dumpling, shrimp rice rolls, Chinese cruller rice rolls, shrimp kau, and bbq pork buns (baked & steamed). They definitely did not disappoint! This might be my new spot for dim sum. read more

Today I had a very unfortunate incident occur when I picked up my food. When I walked in the owner assumed I was a driver, and every subsequent person who came in after me who was black as well. Before I was asked if I needed any help the lady behind the glass told me not to give any trouble. I was never even greeted with a hello. When I was asked to show my confirmation for my order for GrubHub I was told it wasn't enough. Though it had my name my order my order number and the RESTAURANT NAME. She then went on to tell me that because I had no confirmation I would get no food. And that drivers often steal food. I explained a number of times I was not a driver. Then there was another young lady who I believe was a server who tried to come out and explain to her that I had my Grubhub receipt. There were several other patrons who also were trying to explain to her what was happening however she refused to listen. After showing my Grubhub receipt she began to say the discrepancy between my total on her end and my receipt was incorrect even after I told her I had a 10.00 Grubhub promo and even offered to pay the $10 she then took my food to the back and so no because she has lost money before because drivers steal implying that I still was a driver. After I'd paid I left and it wasn't until someone named Simon called and said I could come back and get my food. Had I not paid through Grubhub and needed to feed my family I wouldn't have gone back and I don't think you should patronize this place either. To set up shop in a predominantly black neighborhood and decide that everyone is out to steal or cause trouble is atrocious and this place doesn't deserve my dollars or yours! Rude Rude and double rude are the owners of this restaurant. A lady came into the restaurant and simply ask for the missing gravy to be replaced from her previous order. The restaurant replied to the lady, "NO FREE FOOD" and refused to replace what was missing and claimed they fired the man who told her to return to get the gravy. She wasn't asking for free food, she was simply asking for what was missing from her previous order. I am ashamed that I didn't support this woman by withdrawing my order, but I will say this...I will never purchase another thing from Wing Hong and my friend and I have vowed to spread the word about this restaurant! So I will be honest....this place recently just started doing dim sum and it is actually pretty good. We usually go to another place to get good dimsum but this place is actually good. Looking at the review it seemed like a americanis Chinese restaurant but them doing this really sparked my interested. Also, I really wanted to ey to this place because they have soup dumpling which I have been addicted too. They were alright, not the best but did the job. Our bill was not bad for 3 people. The place is very old school Chinese restaurant but has windows. I would recommend this place to people if Warren is too far. The workers are very nice and attentive. I wanted to try a different Chinese dish from what I normally order, so I took to Yelp to find another restaurant to try. I found the review of fellow Elite whom I follow. He led me to Wing Hong. Like him, I have passed this restaurant for many years. It's across the street from my nail salon and also a CVS that I frequent, however, I've never ventured in. Boy, was I missing out! I ordered the honey garlic chicken and regular ol' shrimp fried rice. The rice was better than "regular ol'", the shrimp were plump and fresh. I also loved that the fried egg was plentiful. The honey garlic chicken was very yummy! Fresh pieces of white meat chicken fried in a batter and coated with the tastiest sauce. I was delighted to say the least. The order of honey garlic chicken served atop broccoli and carrots was enough for four people. I had it for dinner last night and also lunch today. It was plenty left to offer my coworkers. It's also offered in a combination plate. I will order that next time...it was way too much food for me. The prices are comparable to other restaurants. What makes Wing Hong stand out is that they offer treats on their menu that others don't. They have a good variety of dim sum and lobster fried rice; which I will order on my next visit. Credit cards are taken. I am finding that many places won't honor American Express, Wing Hong does. I carried out, but there is a huge dining room for dining in. The restaurant is in a strip on the corner of Southfield and 10 Mile. There is plenty of parking. I don't think the strip mall is at capacity. Some of the retail spaces seem to be empty. Was out and about with a friend, we decided to stop here for lunch. The inside is a little out dated, but it was clean. Wait staff was nice and pleasant. I ordered the general tso chicken, when it came out it looked nice on the plate but the taste wasn't that great. The egg rolls wasn't good at all, I couldn't even eat half of it ( that's how much I didn't like it). Pretty good dim sum! Glad there is another option. The sticky rice is a little larger and has a small salty egg in it (yum!). Stuff eggplant was well made. Didn't get a chance to try their egg tarts since they sold out. I think people are still finding out about dim sum here so it's not as busy. Nice staff and good food. read more

They are carry out only right now because of the Governor's order. We ordered the almond boneless chicken with shrimp fried rice. Everything was delicious!! The chicken was fried to perfection. I'm not a fan of the almond gravy so I ordered with brown gravy. The brown gravy had a great consistency and deep brown coloring. The fried rice has jumbo shrimp not the tiny shrimp other places use. So my boyfriend and I had a taste for Chinese food so we did a carry out with Wing Hong in Southfield. BAD IDEA! We got our food and headed back to my boyfriend's house. He had the almond boneless chicken combination with chicken fried rice and I had the pepper steak combination with shrimp fried rice. The chicken was lackluster and gravy lacked flavor. On top of that, my boyfriend had an upset stomach. My stomach did some cramping of it's own after eating my pepper steak. Pepper steak was bland and chewy and the rice only had five shrimp on top. The rest of the rice was (just that)---rice! Additionally, some of the rice was hard. Like it had been cooked before, but they decided to keep it in with the rest of the rice. Can you say, EWWW! This was not the first time I've had their shrimp fried rice. I noticed the last time I came and it was about five or six shrimp on the a pile of rice. SMH I called Wing Hong the next day and finally spoke with "manager." I put this in quotes, because she was not professional. She was very rude and impatient with me. I told her about how the chicken made my boyfriend sick. She, then, goes on the defense and tells me that it's prepared the same way every time and then she said to me "What do you want me to do?" I was taken aback by that question, but then I said "What would you do if you were a paying customer that supports someone's business?" She told she'll remember me the next time and "give me something." Give me what?! A spring roll??? We ended the conversation, but I will NOT be back. I have went to much better Chinese food restaurants than this. I used to work in that same strip mall years ago and I've brought a lot of business to Wing Hong. Their food used to be really good. We were actually coming from downtown on Sunday but we wasn't trying to pay much - this location isn't too far from my parents since their dentist office is right down the street. We didn't know this place was here. When we dined - there was only 2 tables being used but we felt ok since the reviews were pretty good. Their baos are so so, but I'm down for everything else they serve in yum cha. Cheng fun, har kow, siu mai, wu gok, lo bot go, him sui gok, pi gwut, don tat, BBQ chicken feet (why can't I remember the Chinese name?), etc. Come! I don't want to be harsh or unfair to any restaurant, but I really am perplexed by where all the 4 and 5 stars are from. The dim sum dishes are average at best. I am trying to not compare to places I've been in LA, SF, NYC, Philly, and Boston because you really just can't. - Shao mai 4/5 - Sticky rice in lotus leaf 2/5 - too oily. - Buns (various) 2/5 - Tripes 0/5...As a huge tripe fan, can I give it a negative? There was a weird musky/medicinal taste to it that I have never had before. It tasted like it was defrosted too quickly. - Sticky fried rice with sausage 4/5 Service was 5/5. The decor inside needs an update and needs to be cleaner, especially the carpet (even for Chinatown level, this place is subpar in cleanliness). This place is unique, combining different styles of cuisine... old school Michigan Chinese dishes (Almond Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork etc.), dim sum (where they wheel carts of small plates and let customers visually see/choose what they want-shrimp dumplings, bbq pork buns, etc.) and classic Cantonese dishes (pea sprouts sautéed with garlic, etc.) Yes the place is in a weird little strip mall, yes it looks a little dated and tired. But when you've been in operation for 50 years you you can overlook the not so good for what you get from a business that's been open that long. I've been eating dim sum my whole life, and I've lived in San Francisco for 28 years where there is dim sum a plenty. They do it just as well as many shops in San Francisco, or Windsor Canada. There wasn't a dish we didn't enjoy. It was all fresh, and service was really friendly. Also, because I love Michigan Chinese food we had to order a lunch entrée of Almond chicken.
