Sadly, The Golden Bowl has lost it's edge and Wing's Garden is the new go-to place for some old fashion Oak Park Chinese. The ambiance is a little light, and mostly a waiting room for carry outs at times, but damn the food is good. Of course it's no Hoa Koa, but what could ever be? i've been coming to Wing's for years with the same friend who turned me on to this place, and everything i've ever had from here is awesome. a couple weeks ago my mom had a jones for garlic short ribs; i brought her a combo with shrimp fried rice from Wing's and she couldn't stop commenting on how good it was and asking "Where did you say you got this from?" i had the General Tso's and it was perfect--piping hot with a nice spicy sweet sauce and perfectly crispy breading on the chicken (the sesame chicken is really good there too). we also ordered sweet and sour pork and pepper steak, and everyone dining raved about the food. portions are HUGE; you can easily get two or three meals out of a single combination dinner. great neighborhood spot for standard American Chinese restaurant fare. read more

I walked in randomly and ordered the general Tao and sesame chicken. I liked the chicken but not the Tao. Overall both dishes were heavily breaded but yes yummy. Not a bad experience - my order came out super fast! But I'm still looking for a lighter Chinese food experience but I'd definitely come again here and try something else. Of all the neighborhood, Americanized Chinese joints I've been to, this one is by far the best. My wife and I used to come all the time when we lived in Ferndale, and we still drive down from Clawson to Wing's. The menu is all the usual stuff, but the prices are excellent. For 21 bucks, we get the Dinner For Two. We choose s&s chicken and almond boneless chicken, and soup, rolls, egg roll, and fried rice are all included. We always have at least one meal each as leftovers. Service is solid. Highly recommended! read more

This place is truly a hidden jewel. I was pleased when I walked in. It was a line out the door which is always a good sign. The service is pretty good, the decor not-too-good. Now the food. The beef and broccoli was very good, the shrimp with pea pods and mushrooms was very good, but the won ton soup was just passable. The dumplings in it had no flavor. They just tasted like wheat dough. The egg rolls were pretty good, too. The kid hated the food, except for the bread roll and fried chips. We shall return! The wife and I love this place. Great Chinese food for the money. We love the Sesame Chicken and General Tso's Chicken too. The portions are very generous. Often times we can split a combination plate. Great service and they always get our order exactly the way we want them. The Fried Shrimp combination is generous and delicious. This place is a bit scary on the inside, but don't let that fool you. The food is very good. I think you could feed a whole family on one order of Almond Boneless Chicken, which is exactly as it should be. Having ordered carry out from here many times, I have found that the flavors are sometimes inconsistent. But overall, I like it. This place was equivalent to mall Chinese food. We ordered the Chicken Lo Mein and the Sesame Chicken combination platter. The lo mein was tasteless and barely had any sauce at all, the fried rice was bland without any flavor and the sesame chicken was the highlight. The service here used to be really pleasant and really good ... I asked that the fried rice not include egg as I'd done so many times before and they wanted to charge me and additional $1.50 (Same price as if i decided to add jumbo shrimp) ... When I questioned why is there a charge now - The counter lady kept responding with "Very little egg - You won't know it's there" ... As a returning patron, I was never really a fan of the food which was average in my opinion, and which really didn't provide large enough portions for the price in comparison to other Chinese spots I've been to in the Detroit area... Solid place. I always get the #31 dinner, cashew beef. They give you healping amount of food and it's regular Chinese food prices. Usually we spend $20 and have left overs for the next day. Really pissed off with a very rude worker at this establishment today. They are normally very quick, but short in their interactions with me and other customers. Today the worker who brought my meal out was SO RUDE. I was checking to make sure the meal I was getting was mine. She yelled back at me saying, "Here's your food - BYE!" very good chinese food! after moving to the area my boyfriend and i had tried two different chinese restaurants and both of them were just "okay". finally after reading reviews i decided to try this place out. i ordered a general tso chicken combo with shrimp fried rice. each dinner comes with an egg roll and they give you fresh rolls as well, which i thought was strange but my boyfriend enjoyed them and stated that they were soft and sweet. the egg roll was smaller than the average egg roll, and taste wise it was just okay. it had bean sprouts and a little bit of cabbage and chicken. i prefer my egg rolls with mostly cabbage. anyhow the general tso's chicken was SO good! it was very fresh and it was not overly coated in breading. each piece was made with WHITE meat chicken, and not that filler crap you get at some local chinese places. the rice was tasty as well and they give you plenty of plump shrimp (at an extra cost of course). my boyfriend got shrimp fried rice and it came in a white container packed to the top. the portions are huge, the price is right and the food is fresh. definitely will be our go-to chinese restaurant. read more

I have been eating at this restaurant for years and it has consistently had the best Chinese food in the Ferndale/Oak Park area. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous so it is a great bang for the buck. I always eat leftovers the next day. The restaurant building has probably seen better days but it has a peaceful atmosphere. If you drink tea, they serve a delicious oolong tea on the house! As far as the food, I recommend the pepper steak, sesame chicken, and general tao chicken. The mooshoo is a great vegetarian option. The items that are marked spicy on the menu are actually quite mild. So if you like spicy food then make sure to tell them you want it hot! I have tried a few other Chinese restaurants in the area and was generally disappointed (undercooked meat, bland flavors, bad service etc). I have never experienced any such problems at Wing's Gardens. Highly recommended! A+ read more

I am a big fan of wing's gardens. Ok, so I wouldn't ever really eat at the restaurant (kinda shabby) but the take out is the best we've had. It is consistently good. Wing's Gardens has the best Egg-Foo Young in Metropolitan Detroit. I prefer the Shrimp Egg-Foo Young, but all are so very light, fluffy, and yummy. The Almond Chicken is very crisp outside, but very moist inside. The seasoned broccoli is to die for. The food is always piping hot. We ordered sesame chicken and white rice and they gave us shrimp fried rice. We told them we ordered white rice and they room our plates, dumped the shrimp fried rice off our plates and put the white rice on top leaving the residue from the shrimp fried rice on there! Let me break it down for you. The Chinese food here is some of the best I've had outside of Chinatown in Montreal, or Windsor in Canada. However, the customer service is kinda what my mom would describe as "nice-nasty". The lady that took my order was nice enough; however, I ordered a quart of shrimp fried rice, and two egg rolls; and when my take-out was ready, I asked for two sets of chopsticks along with it. She refused, saying that they could only give out one set per order. Now, I'm sure, a quart of shrimp fried rice can easily feed 2 - 4 people, and since most customers either neglect to ask for them, because they don't know how to use them, or could care less as long as they have a fork; giving me an extra set would certainly not upset their profit margin. That is what I describe as "nice-nasty" customer service, and enough of a reason for me to drop a rating that could have easily been a 4 or 5 stars down to a 2. Whether I ever order food from here again remains to be seen, but great customer service goes a long way to keep people coming back. Think about it Wing's Garden's! read more

This used to be our favorite Chinese place, that is until I bit into one of the wontons in my soup and it had a small hard bone that nearly chipped my tooth, I called the restaurant to let them know and talk to them about it, and they were so rude and nasty towards me, I was appalled at the whole situation, we were customers who went there on a weekly basis like clock work and we will never step foot back in there again, mainly for the simple fact of how they treated me. If it weren't for the customers they would not even be in business, they really should think about that, not once during my effort of trying to talk to them was I rude to them.. They told me to call there insurance and not to come back to the restaurant. I guess I'll be driving to my old neighborhood to eat Chinese..
