The place I used to smog my car at changed a few things such as no longer electronically submitting a pass to the DMV and no discounts of any kind at any time. My first time using A & E Smog today had none of these issues. They gave me the $20 dollar discount for mentioning the ad on Yelp and they electronically sent the passed smog outcome to the DMV. Also, their shop is in a somewhat narrow alleyway with other shops on each side so until you get to the large parking lot at the end, it's a tight fit for cars anywhere else. That said, they conveniently drive your car into their bay and when finished park your car in the best spot for leaving. That's great service. Five stars from me for - friendly and courteous demeanor, fast and complete smog service, and providing a $20 dollar discount for mentioning the add. I called this morning (Saturday) to ask if they could smog my Porsche Panamera and to get the price. I talked to Eddie who told me to bring it in before 4:00 pm and that it would be $40. I got there in 10 minutes, so 9:30. I pulled right in to the station as no one else was there. Eddie took my DMV paperwork and asked me to have a seat in the waiting room. Eddie was courteous, professional and efficient. He finished promptly, ran my credit card and off I went. No hidden fees or charges. I was pleasantly surprised by the courtesy, price, and efficiency of A&E. They were able to take my car in minutes, and the whole thing only took about 15 minutes. I rarely review places I like, but A&E deserves one (and I'm in a good mood)! :) This is my first smog test so I have no idea where to go and have no idea how much it cost so I googled places based on price. Found one for $29.75 with coupon, reviews were good but looks fake cuz they were all done at the same month & just last month (thought it might be friends of the owners or the owner reviewing his own business)! Found another place with good reviews but the guy I talked to was unpleasant, and they charge $50 plus cost of certificate. Then I found A&E, called and asked for the cost, $40 with yelp discount for test and certificate! The guy I talked to was really nice, the guy who helped me was very friendly and good at customer service. He kept me updated while waiting (they have an air-conditioned waiting area), and when they were done, he told me I passed, I can register my car, and he already sent the result to DMV. Great service! I definitely recommend this place to everyone who needs a smog test!!! read more

As much as I love spending my evening at a shop paying someone to inspect my car. I can honestly say I dislike the politics of people having to waste time on smog inspections. Yeah I know we do it to save the planet blah, blah... but I won't go into that rant. :) I do admit these guys make it easier for me to do smog inspections. I'm very picky on who I let touch my car, especially spending long hours on those evening drives home, emotionally attached. These place was quite prompt on service. No hassling on other needless products. There's even a coupon that you can use if you go into their website. There's even a waiting room that you can hang out at as you wait for the results. I always feel like I'm at the clinic, even though I know the car will pass, the anticipation can be excruciating. 15 minutes later the tech guy will come in with the good news. I went in today for a smog test, for the third time in six years. They were, as usual, friendly, professional, and full of useful advice. I came in at 4:20 pm on a Tuesday, without an appointment, waited about 20 minutes for my car to be seen, and the smog test itself took about 10 or 15 minutes. Very satisfied. I just bought a second car, a 1999, and everyone else wanted $60-$65 because it requires a different smog check system. I was charged a flat rate of $45 which included the certificate and electronic mailing to DMV. There was no wait, the guy was super customer-service-oriented on the phone and in person, spoke English perfectly, was fast, efficient, provided all the necessary paperwork, and I was out of there is less than 20 minutes. Went here to complete my smog test since it was closest to the DMV office where I was trying to get my new plates. DMV wanted me to complete the car registration before releasing the new plates and told me that if I could come back before a certain time, I didn't have to wait anymore. Otherwise, I have to make another appointment on a different day. I was in and out of the shop in about 15 minutes and was able to go back to the DMV with minutes to spare. After failing my smog test at A&E smog test, I immediately went to saticoy auto repair to have the car fixed. Saticoy auto repair called me telling me thay there was nothing wrong with the smog. I then went back to A&E to redo my smog and of course it failed again. So I went back to saticoy auto repair to officially do my smog and it passed with out a problem. In other words, A&E doesnt know what their doing. I'll definitely not going back to A&E smog again. read more

This is my first Yelp review... but I had to give props where props are due!! Due to the bi-annual smog test requirement in CA, I needed to go in and have this done prior to re-registering my vehicle. Earlier today, I went to get my oil changed and that place also did smog tests--he quoted me at $60 for the smog test, but stated he would give me a $20 off coupon. However, I had read great reviews on Yelp about A&E Smog Test Only, and wanted to go there instead. Since I was already in the area, I decided to try going and see if they were open. When I arrived, there was only one person ahead of me. I asked if they were closed and the gentleman said no. I went ahead and gave him my paperwork and waited. When I sat down in the waiting area, I saw their schedule was posted on the wall... and on Saturdays they close at 3! I arrived close to 4... and he still helped us both out. Honestly, to me that's outstanding customer service at its finest! (How many places give you attitude if you arrive even 5 minutes prior to when they close?) All in all, it took a little over 30 minutes (including the test for the person who arrived before me). The price seemed fair ($40 for the test + $8 for the certificate). The great part was, when I was paying, I told him that I had read these great reviews on here... and he said he was surprised, and that I was the second person today to tell him that. He seemed really glad that people were giving them such good reviews. Jokingly, he said "if you liked the service, maybe you could give us another great review." I told him I definitely would! I don't recall his name, but the person who helped me today was very honest and personable. I would definitely recommend this place. :) One note: A&E is on the same location as several other repair places. It is the last garage on the right-hand side. read more
