Generally good but some menu items are better than others. So it's a hit or miss. Outdoor seating is pleasant.

We have gone to Winslow's several times over the past three summers, usually with no regrets. This year, regrets all around. At dinner, i was served the saddest sub-par lobster roll I've ever had. Dried out lobster, not enough mayo, on a cheap hot dog bun flattened to accomodate the dried out lobster. The fries were pale and cobered in whatever they are covered in, but not hit or fresh. On thr other hand, he kale salad had so much dressing it was hard to scrape off. We went to oyster happy hour. We left thinking if you can't be happy about hosting happy hour don't bother... The hostess was unwelcoming leading us to a table through the server's entrance. The waitress didn't bother to give us utensils or napkins. The sad oysters came sans cocktail sauce and more warm than cold. And we were charged full price instead of the happy hour price not that either was a bargain! There are better dining options in Wellfleet, I'll skip this one next year. read more

If you are in the mood for a drink - they have a great cocktail list, and an excellent wine-list as well. If i ever make it back to the Cape, I will beeline it straight to Winslow's. Some recommended dishes: Local Mussels, w/curry, Riesling and creme fraiche Kale Ceasar, w/grilled anchovies Angel Hair pasta w/Scallops, jumbo shrimp, mussels, white wine sauce. This ended up being the most expensive meal I enjoyed in Cape Cod, but it was a nice experience and the food was good. The place is nice without being pretentious, the Oysters were fresh and delicious, and the Clam Chowder was tangy (and included corn, apparently a no-no for some purists). I enjoyed their Lobster Roll as my main entree, which was a tad expensive but tasty (though the one at PJ's has it beat, to be honest). The best part of the joint was their cocktails... I loved the Summer in a Glass (made with fresh squeezed lemonade and muddled fruits and herbs) so much that I came back and had another one at the bar a couple days later... and then went back again with the entire wedding party after the reception let out! We had a great experience here! The food was pretty good and I particularly enjoyed my cocktail, which involved lemon and basil. However, what stood out was the service. It was pretty typical until it started raining, which is not what you hope for in the summer on the Cape when you're sitting outside. They very quickly checked in to see if we needed to move, which we didn't because it wasn't bad. And then it began to pour. They moved us to an indoor table immediately and made sure we got everything we needed. We were very thankful and they did a great job handling the situation. read more

We had dinner tonight on their beautiful outdoor patio and while the server was delightful and attentive, the food was way below our expectations. The garden salad was terrible with the lettuce brown and wilted and the entrees we ordered were OK but nothing stood out about our dining experience except the great personality of the server. My husband and I ate at the Winslow Tavern on a dreary evening. We risked sitting outside on the beautiful front patio. It did rain on us a little, but the servers were quick to provide umbrellas, which worked fine when combined with the trees above. The service was fine, nothing extraordinary - drinks were refilled promptly and he gave us great advice when deciding upon our entrees. The food is what is earning this restaurant five stars from me. We began with the CURRY MUSSELS. Wow. If you are just stopping in for an afternoon, stop by and get that appetizer. My husband ordered Angel Hari (an array of seafood mixed into an angel hair pasta and wine sauce). He said the seafood was fresh and well cooked. I ordered a Kobe burger (yes, I know it's "the Cape," I just don't like enough seafood). The burger was good, the roll wasn't my favorite, but not a bad burger for a seafood restaurant. The desserts were amazing. My husband ordered the Triple Chocolate Mouse and I ordered the Salted Caramel Tart. My husband loved his and mine was to die for. Pass up the touristy spots down route 6. This restaurant treats locals like royalty and visitors like sheep. We showed up an hour before opening to have a seat outside for the July 4th parade. The maitre D (tall with short blonde hair) shuffled me around three times before saying she would do her "best" to seat my family. And when I asked that she put me at a table and not move me again she threw attitude. People on vacation are not looking for a pretentious maitre D. They want to relax. There are many other Wellfleet restaurants that appreciate your business and treat customers with respect. Next time you want to reserve tables, put up signs so there's no confusion. Be wary of the oyster happy hour. It's only a .25 discount on oysters at $1.75. That's a really modest mark down from the standard $2 oyster in Wellfleet. read more

Lovely location and outdoor dinning is peaceful and comfortable. Unfortunately the food was not on par with Aesop's Tables that use to occupy this location. The gazpacho has such a bite of vinegar that it was unpleasant on the tongue and it had to be returned. Oysters were terrific. Hamburger was a flat disk of meat and huge chunks of Gorgonzola. Lobster tacos could use less vinegar in the sauce also. read more

This place was great. Have never ventured into Wellfleet in our years of coming to the Cape due to time constraints, but we were happy we stopped in and fell right into Winslow's for dinner. My wife and I look forward to visiting Winslows every time we are on the Cape. Usually we have a wonderful meal and good service. The prices are a bit on the high side, but we expect that with the quality of the food and service. Our most recent experience did not live up to our past visits however. Where things went wrong was when we requested to split a plate of seafood pasta between two of our party. The waitress said that she would bring us an extra bowl. When the food came to our table, the extra bowl was not included. As we're polite people, we all waited for the additional bowl, our food chilling as we waited. Once the bowl arrived we had to split the dish ourselves. After we finished, my wife went to talk to the owner to say that it was surprising that a plate could not be split in the kitchen. There is nothing noted on the menu to this effect. The owners reply was that with 400 plates coming out of the kitchen it is impossible to split a plate. (It didn't appear that this was a 400 plate evening). She mentioned that the menu states "no substitutions". The waitress appeared and slapped the bill on the table and said "we took your food off the bill". We said that is not what we were looking for, we ate the food and intended to pay for it. The waitress took the bill back and moments later the owner came out and we told her the same thing. The whole situation bordered on embarrassing and didn't need to be handled the way that it was. Winslow's isn't hard to find, and thank goodness for that because it's an incredible restaurant. I recommend going for happy hour: great bartenders with excellent skills. Try their Summer in a Glass - it is delicious! If you want oysters - this is a pretty great place to go to. What a treasure! Truly fine dining and still Cape Cod casual. Very reasonably priced for a splurge celebration. We had duck pizza. So good we went back for more. I make my own pies so I am not easy. This pie was crispy with creamy burrata balanced with fresh hot pepper and the crispy duck. Then the avocado. Brilliant. I am so stealing this recipe. We went back 2 days later for more research. Duck pizza even better (crispier crust) and then we added the roasted oysters. I could have kept the research going all summer but alas we had to leave. Cannot wait to return. I went here with 4 people for dinner. Two of us enjoyed our meals (Winslow Burger and the Risotto) the other two ordered steaks...which they were not happy with The restaurant brought out two well done steaks when they were ordered medium rare. The steaks were sent back and then when they returned they were VERY RARE...needless to say ,the food is good just stay away from the steak unless you plan to be there for 3 hours. Have been to this restaurant many times over the years, but we were very disappointed this time. We wanted a seat outside, and the mailer d was somewhat unpleasant, which was unusual and a little off putting. The second problem was that we were asked if we want bread - and then we were charged for it. $3 for three pieces of bread when you are spending about $30 per person seems ridiculous, especially when there was no indication that it didn't come with the meal. My husband's lobster with pasta and corn special was very bland. Also, it came so fast that the entire meal was even more off kilter Our server Becca was excellent. We went to Winslow's after a friend recommended and they also had a restaurant.com gift certificate. So I paid $3 for a $25 gift certificate. NOTE: there are some stipulations, can only be used Sun-Thur, there is a minimum spend, cannot be combined with other offers..etc. We went on a Wed night and there was about a 20 minute wait but we were able to find a seat in the bar upstairs. The drink list is awesome. I had the white sangria..yum! We were seated at a table but it was rather strange. They have bus staff or something that brings you water but then we just sat there - so I wasn't sure if the bus person was our waitress or not. The waitress then came over but you could tell she was rushed. She didn't introduce herself and for some reason that bothers me when waiters don't tell you there name. We ordered our meal - there were four of us. To start there were two cups of clam chowder and entrees were: Baked Cod, Grilled Lobster, Pasta with Scallops, and Filet Mignon. Clam Chowder was amazing! yum! Entrees were a different story. The steak was not cooked properly. Hubs ordered it medium-well and it was still very pink, the grilled lobster was not cooked all the way - we called the waitress over and asked if it was done (because we weren't sure) and she said she didn't know so she took it back to the kitchen. The cod was okay - kind of bland and my mom felt the same way about the pasta - blah. Waitress came back with the lobster and said it was in fact NOT cooked but it is now. She offered us free desserts. We had the Panna Cotta and the Key Lime Pie - this place should just offer desserts because these were AMAZING. The $25 restaurant.com g.c. worked perfectly. read more

This was my second summer eating at Winslow's Tavern for my finance's birthday. The food and service at Winslow's Tavern are solid, but it could be taken up a notch. Our server was pleasant and good at her job, but barely said a word to us the whole evening. Perhaps she was having a hard night or is shy, but in general, it's nice to have a friendly server greet you and serve you throughout your meal. In terms of food: the lobster bisque was excellent, and the beet salad was quite nice. My finance loved his steak frites - the steak and fries were cooked perfectly. My bass was disappointing - it felt a little overcooked, and the dish did not have a ton of flavor. The lobster special was disappointing as well. I believe that all the food is cooked to order and cooked with care, but our entrees came out really, really quickly after we ordered them (we ordered our entrees after finishing our apps). It was 10 minutes at most between ordering entrees and being served. Part of going out to a nice restaurant is taking your time to eat and drink and talk. Having your food served too quickly rushes the experience, and also makes you question how much food is being pre cooked in the back. The atmosphere is wonderful, but it is expensive and I really do think that with some care and attention the food could be brought up to the full quality a restaurant like this deserves. read more

The way I look at it, I'm trying to have a nice dinner, and complaining about the food does not enhance the experience, and I've worked in restaurants and know how dispiriting it can be. So I usually just eat the food and don't go back. First of all, if it ain't good, there is something wrong with the chef. He should know when that piece of fish isn't cooked right. There should be supervision at every level. And the sauce should have flavor. Isn't that what it's all about? But it's not worth spoiling anybody's night over, so I didn't say anything. The four of us went to Winslow's Tavern because of the very charming patio out front. We had a great waitress who took great care of us. The problem was the food. I had the octopus appetizer.The octopus was very good,but the icecold chickpeas(extremely underseasoned)it was served on made that dish very unappealing. My friend's salat was nice,but the grey looking pieces of chicken where not to her liking. My husband had the tuna appetizer as an entree,it was very good. One of the specials was the paella. It was small,with overcooked rice and a little bit of seafood.To me it tasted like rice with some stuff thrown in it. The tiramisu was amazing and the thing the whole table liked a lot. Options for a nice dinner during Covid are slim. We chose Winslow's based upon the reviews. The food was very good however rather typical. Seafood with pasta was shrimp, muscles and two scallops, it lacked in flavor. corn risotto and scallops were tasty, portions were small. rated as a 3 for service and seating. Be warned about the grapes in the courtyard, they have not been maintained and are full of bees. We had a few close bee encounters during dinner and felt rushed due to the seating. read more

This restaurant was inviting at night, with a lovely starlit terrace and well appointed dining room inside. The food, on the other hand, was in my opinion barely mediocre. I ordered seafood pasta which consisted of angel hair pasta and a few mussels, shrimp and scallops, each. The sauce was watery and an unfortunate color of gray. Edible, but disappointing. Given other stellar reviews, it is certainly possible that we were there on an off night, or I ordered a dish that went wrong, or there was a temporary chef in the kitchen. We had a very good meal at Winslow's Tavern and an overall very nice experience. Oysters broiled with Pesto and Tuna Crudo were both very tasty. Nothing unexpected but enjoyable food. My partner ordered the grilled chicken with Arugula salad. She described this as good, but not great as the chicken was not deeply flavored although it was cooked properly. (She is alittle spoiled by the chicken that I make). We enjoyed the beautiful atmosphere and good, relaxed service. The dining room decor is tasteful and calm. Our experience was in marked contrast to Mac's Shack where we had been the night before --- there the tables were literally on top of each other, our waitress seemed stressed and very rushed and the appetizers were served at different times, all creating a tense unpleasant experience. (Mac's Shack will get separate review). We will return to Winslow's Tavern on future trips to Wellflleet. read more

Winslow's Tavern hosted our rehearsal dinner, and two groomsmen have since told me it was their favorite part of our wedding weekend. Tracey Hunt and her team created a very special evening that was gorgeous, yummy, and well-thought-out from start to finish. We started with passed appetizers and drinks on the grapevine-covered patio, where they had set up tables for seating, and a mini-bar for wine and water. They played great music, and the crab cakes and gazpacho were AMAZING. Then, we moved inside to tables with specially-printed menus. I had mistakenly miscounted the number of guests, and they quickly added a table without making any fuss at all. Our food was divine- my swordfish was cooked to perfection, and I overheard someone at another table say the Winslow Burger was "the best burger I've ever had." It got better. We then enjoyed coffee and passed desserts back outside on the patio, which was now lit with mini lights, and had a romantic feel accentuated by low music and fabulous key lime pie. Tracey and her team really did a fabulous job, kept within budget, and far surpassed our expectations. Very tasty food and good service. I would love to come again. My girlfriend and I split oysters for an appetizer. I got the cod, which was cooked very nicely, and she got angel hair pasta with mussels, shrimp, and scallops. We both thoroughly enjoyed our entrees. My husband and I went there for dinner the other night and were very disappointed. The food was extremely uneven. I got a pasta with buratta, and cherry tomatoes that was flavorless. I took two bites and couldn't even eat the rest. The waitress didn't know much about the menu and couldn't answer questions in an informed way. The positives: Fantastic patio, lovely location, and conveniently next door to the ice cream shop! Beer and wine selection was good! The waitstaff was very nice, and it was very clean. The negatives: I'm not a big portions person, I think in many restaurants you are over-portioned. That said, I was mildly hungry, and ordered the lobster tacos. Pretty petite for $25, particularly given some of the excellent lobster rolls I've had all over the cape. Two "small" corn tortillas with a corn, avocado, lobster mix spooned on top. I nursed them as well as I could, but still disappeared quickly. They were fine since it was an experiment. Still hungry, hit a half dozen oysters. They were good. The lobster tacos might have been an unrepresentative dish, but left a bit disappointed. They needed to have three on there, given the size and price. read more
