I was nearly ripped off at this location by Jerry, the Store Manager. The ringer on my phone appeared not to be working. I went into the store and was told that they could do a diagnostic to see what the problem was. I left my phone with Jerry and was told to come back in 15 minutes.
When I returned he said the diagnostic would be finished in a few minutes. In the meantime, he opened up my account and then told me that the diagnostic determined that the phone was broken. He quoted me the cost for the repair, but he suggested it made more sense to buy a new phone. When I asked how he knew that the phone needed to be repaired since the phone was still in the back room where the diagnostic was performed, Jerry said he could tell by looking at my account in their computer. I thought that was odd, but hey I'm not a tech person. He proceeded to try and sell me the new iphone SE and I told him I would think about it. About ten days later, I was in my doctor's office and my phone started ringing. I asked the receptionist if she would call me to see if it was just a fluke but sure enough my phone rang and was working properly. I was close to the Verizon store and went in and told Jerry what happened. I asked him to call me on my phone and he did but he first took the phone out of my hand and put it on his desk in an area that lacked visibility. He then called the phone and it didn't ring. I said to him how could that be if the phone rang twice just a short while ago and he replied, in a very unpleasant tone, that the ringer was defective.
Assuming I needed a new phone, I discussed with him prices on different phone models and plans but he was very unhelpful and not willing to give me full details about costs etc. I left the store very annoyed and was going to go to a different Verizon store to buy a new phone; yet, something felt very off about the entire experience to me. My phone had very recently rung twice, in fact only a half hour had passed since it had last rung. At that point I decided to wait on buying a new phone.
A few days later I was speaking to the concierge in my building about my phone issue and very fortunately I still had not purchased a new phone. He asked me if he could take a look at the phone. It turns out that the ringer was turned off and it was set on vibrate only. Now I know why when I went into the store and told Jerry that the phone had just rung twice he took the phone from me and placed it on his desk before he dialed my number. He must have turned off the ringer and then proceeded to dial my number. Of course my phone did not ring; I was scammed.
It turns out that there is NOTHING wrong with my phone. It rings perfectly fine now that the ringer is turned back on. I narrowly escaped being ripped off by Jerry, the store manager. This is certainly not the kind of help one would expect from a Verizon store, if one has a problem.
I write this to warn others about this store. I'd avoid it at all costs. read more
