This comes up as a Tea room here but it is actually a very good restaurant as well. The hot sandwiches are open faced and smothered with cheese. The wraps are overflowing with veggies and meat and homemade dipping sauce - far better than the average iceberg lettuce filled tortillas that often pass as wraps in other places. The deserts are always homemade and we can not leave without having one (or even one each). This is where we send out-of-towners looking for a good lunch. Yes it is a very small place and everything is made from scratch so it can take a while, but it is a great location on a second floor balcony in a historic building full of antique shops. This wasn't the easiest place to find but once inside this cute little spot was worth the effort. It's upstairs with tables overlooking the historical treasure that is the old pottery building. Very quaint with nice touches and a nice feel. Great food and drinks. I had the open-faced reuben and fresh lemonade-delicious! Scones to go that I can't wait to try. We had lunch on a Sunday around noon and it was not busy. The owner was very friendly. The pear wrap with maple dressing was delicious!! My husband enjoyed his cobb salad and my son gave the cheese quesadilla an 8 out of 10. We had a wonderful experience! read more

We loved their delicious Hot Twig specials of Turkey & Asparagus (With bacon! Need I say more?) and Roast Beef & Provolone with its perfectly spicy mustard topping. The lemon cake was wonderfully light and creamy and the "Death by Chocolate" cake was a chocolate lover's dream. A homey atmosphere with great service and a delightful view. We were visiting from California and stopped to check out the Pottery Place here in Red Wing. Proprietors at one of the antique stores told us to try out the wrap place on the second floor. What a great find! Excellent chicken, spinach and pear wrap with a maple sauce on the side! (Maple sauce was incredible)! The wife had the chicken and asparagus hot sandwich that was fabulous as well. Don't miss this place! read more

I learned about Wisteria Twig from a recent issue of TeaTime magazine and decided to take my mom there as part of her birthday present: a day in Red Wing (we are from the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, and she had shown some interest in visiting Red Wing). I made reservations for high tea. We visited at 1 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon, and it wasn't full, so you might be able to drop in without a reservation, although I think you would have to order off their menu rather than getting the high tea. The tearoom is not free-standing; it is on the second floor of a large red brick building called Pottery Place -- something I failed to realize, so we had just a little trouble finding the place (but not too much). Despite the fact that it is housed in this building, the atmosphere was pleasant. They had set a pretty table for the two of us, and they gave us courteous and prompt service. High tea consists of four courses, and your only choice will be the choice of tea. I enjoyed all four courses, though I was pretty stuffed at the end and took a box home. The first course was fruit in a sort of yogurt sauce. My mom and I weren't sure what to expect, but it was delicious. I'm sure the fruit must vary with the season, but we had peaches, kiwi, strawberries and blueberries -- very delicious. The second course is the scone of the day with lemon curd and Devonshire cream. We each had an almond-vanilla scone. The scones are quite large, and they were tasty. The third course consisted of five open-faced tea sandwiches: three traditional cucumber sandwiches and two chicken salad sandwiches on a bread with some cinnamon flavoring to it. I liked the cucumber sandwiches, and I also liked the chicken salad and the bread it was served on, but I was never quite sure if I liked the combination of the chicken salad and the bread. I didn't hate it, it was just a different flavor combination. We were finally served vanilla cupcakes in tea cups; the presentation was absolutely beautiful, and the cupcakes were tasty. They had a very light lemon filling. I'm guessing the sandwich and dessert vary depending on the day or season. For tea, we were offered a choice of the house tea, which we chose and which was nice, or we could have selected from several bagged teas they had on hand. (Both my mom and I got the idea they were bagged teas, not loose teas, from something our server said, but we did not actually take a look at them.) We had one large pot of tea for the two of us, which was plenty, but it was not like other tea rooms I've visited where each diner was able to choose her own tea. I have had English-style tea in the Washington, D.C., area, in London and in the Twin Cities prior to going to Wisteria Twig. In my opinion, Wisteria Twig holds its own, and I would go again. I wouldn't drive all the way to Red Wing JUST to have tea at Wisteria Twig (that would be a five-star review!), but if you are in the area, it is definitely worth your while. read more

Excellent! Stumbled across this unique tea room and cafe by accident, but will make it a point to return in the future. A wide variety of choices all made fresh when ordered. The day my wife and I stopped by, the owner was cook, hostess, waitress, and busboy. In spite of the number of folks including a number of regulars as well as first timers, she covered all the bases and did it well. My wife had one of her unique "Twigs" (an open fave sandwich served in a cassoulet while I enjoy a relatively new spinich, pear, chicken wrap with a maple dressing, Both were wonderful and plenty of food. I wanted to like this place more, based on recommendations and a definite need for good lunch options in Red Wing, but the food and tea didn't quite live up to expectations. Vegetarian options were limited and the house tea was good, but unremarkable. The sandwiches were interesting and the atmosphere was pleasant, so I'd definitely give it another chance. read more
