Tried the cheese plate and had the Argentinian Malbec. Was good. Tried the pear martini- very strong although not bad but not my favorite. Meh. I work in Palmer Square and treated my staff to lunch this past Saturday. We ordered fried calamari, short rib Mac n cheese, and a turkey club. The turkey club was the only eatable item. The fried calamari is served weird with peppers and balsamic glaze, and the short rib Mac n cheese had an old meat taste- not fresh. Since I push retail for a living, I wasn't able to enjoy my food when I picked it up and couldn't get to it until 2 hours later; this is when I called the restaurant for marinara sauce for the calamari. The manager was nice and I was able to go pickup the sauce without charge. Yet again, because I had to walk 2 blocks to get the sauce, by the time I got back to work, I had to help clients and couldn't eat. At 5pm, when I had a chance to eat, the calamari tasted like an oil dump and was uneatable, even after putting it in the toaster oven. I had to toss it. My coworker ate his short rib Mac n cheese but told me to never order from Witherspoon Grill again. read more

I had an ok experience when eating here for the first time! The staff was nice and the atmosphere was pleasant. The food was good but there were some problems! The Shrimp Scampi I had was fantastic! The Shrimp was a good size and had great flavor. I wish they had more cappellini than just a little scoop! The Caesar salad was very good. The French Onion soup was just ok. It had a lot to be desired for. My wife had the Filet Mignon Tips which came out rare instead of medium which she requested. For dessert I had the Witherspoon Sundae which was to die for! I don't know if he was the manager but he made it clear that even if we were eating and our hour was up he would kick us out. Mind you, it took them 10-15 minds to acknowledge our presence. I know it's like a broken record, but lunch they other day at WG, was no exception. No, I don't own, or work there. I just love the way they do everything right. The staff is head and shoulders above the dining experience anywhere in the Princeton area. They food quality and presentation is always on point and prepared exactly as requests. I've been to the Witherspoon grill many times. Overall, the food is good. One thing I would like to mention is that the food is NOT always consistent, even with the same dish. I returned last night for a business dinner and luckily, it was one of the good nights. I started off my night with their famous Kentucky old fashion. We ordered the grand seafood tower, calamari and crab dip for app. The seafood was fresh and sweet. Oysters, clams, mussels, crabs and lobster, you couldn't ask for better start to your meal. For my entree, I ordered the dry age strip steak medium rare. This is one dish I mentioned it's hit or missed. I had it before and it was amazingly flavorful and you can cut it with a butter knife. I also had it before where it completely lacked flavor. Last night was one of the good one. The steak had a very nice crust from the seasoning, steak was very tender with perfectly cooked temperature. For the side, you have to get the two hour onion, onion rings, asparagus and Brussels sprout. Overall, Witherspoon is a decent place with good steak and good seafood. The veggies were diced perfectly and so much flavor. My taste buds were singing "aaaahhhh". I couldn't wait for dinner. Stepping into this restaurant for dinner you immediately put into this romantic dim lit room that gives you a cozy feeling. It was also nice and toasty inside, which is always nice when you're coming from the cold weather outside. Our group definitely had one of the best wait staff as she was attentive and very descriptive when we asked her questions. We ordered all of her recommendations for appetizers and loved all of them. She was friendly and sociable, it made for a nice experience. We ordered the crab dip, the calamari, and one other thing that I am forgetting now. The calamari was pretty unique. Instead of being served with marinara sauce it was served with a balsamic glaze and some other seasoning which made it a lot lighter with a refreshing taste. The crab dip was made with actual chunks of crab which was really nice and was enough for everyone at the table to share. Both appetizers were delicious and would absolutely recommend. It seems like they have a lot of different appetizers to choose from so I can definitely see ordering more of those at the table. There a lot of cocktails to choose from, which was fun to read through an order from but the dinner was a little disappointing. With high expectations from the appetizer, my steak didn't really wow me and we also ordered one of the zucchini pastas for the table to share and while it was different and Light, it also didn't impress me as a main dish. Unimpressed. Went to dinner to celebrate my daughter's graduation from Princeton Univ. 1. The place is clueless - Tues was graduation and the place was packed with FAMILIES. Yet Whitherspoon's mgt decided to proceed with loud live music. No one could talk during dinner. 2. Ordered NY Strip steak. Got a grizzly overcooked "steak". Sent back only to get another low-end supermarket steak. My son's NY Strip was no better. Poor quality steaks. 3. Ok, calamari and oyster apps were solid. 4. Waiter was good. My boyfriend and I came here for Valentine's Day and loved our dinner! I've been for brunch before and wanted to check out their dinner for awhile now. Restaurant is an upscale, romantic atmosphere without being snobby. We both ordered steaks and they came out exactly how we asked, very juicy and charred excellently. My boyfriend ordered the monstrous in size 20 oz bone in rib-eye and ate every last bite! The mashed potatoes was just okay but the baked macaroni and cheese gave me LIFE. It was so cheesy and gushy and melted in my mouth with flavor. I had a smile on my face with each bite. I'd easily go back just for this alone. For dessert I had the red velvet cake which was a special for Valentine's Day weekend. It was delicious and a great way to end the meal. It was sweet but not in an overpowering way--just the right amount. The cream cheese frosting was rich and the cake moist. I highly recommend eating at Witherspoon Grill for a nice dinner out in Princeton. Believe it or not I have never been to this place and I have lived here for my whole life. Sat down here on a Sunday brunch. Their menu is half regular menu and half brunch items. It was a beautiful day out, so I decided to sit with the family and my friend outside. Great atmosphere, great weather (lucky), and more importantly great food. Personally I am not fond of brunch food when going out. I feel like I can do all of it myself with relative ease as opposed to other things. Their sandwich menu looked pretty good to me, so I went with the filet mignon sandwich. Applewood smoked blue cheese (blue cheese is only good when melted in my opinion), spring mix, red onion, tomato jam and chili aioli, and in between an onion roll. Steak was cooked to my liking and the flavors were great. The aioli and the onion roll really elevated the sandwich. 16 bucks. Worth it. My wife had the bread pudding French toast which I don't even have to explain how it was. Just saying "bread pudding French toast" is enough said. 4 stars because the waitress had to be reminded about my friends black coffee he initially wanted after the food came and we were 5 minutes into eating. Exceeded our expectations! Our table was outside on a beautiful Saturday evening overlooking Princeton. The ambiance and atmosphere was so energetic and positive. My Mother ordered the baked five onion soup which she loved, and we shared the crab & artichoke dip which was okay. To drink, I had the chocolate pumpkin martini which I didn't enjoy and the key lime pie martini which was better. Mom had a glass of the Pinot noir she loved. For our entree, we split the porterhouse, mashed potatoes, and asparagus which were out of this world! Cooked to medium rare perfection. The waitresses were completely overwhelmed running around and disorganized. Our drinks took more than 30 min to get to the table and they brought the wrong glasses of white wine in addition to the gin and tonic being so strong we couldn't drink it. The steak for 2 was inedible - it has no flavor no taste. It was not good at all. Creamed spinach was the same story and the Ravioli too. Really disappointed in the food. I took my mother to the Witherspoon Grill for Thanksgiving dinner. Everything about the experience was phenomenal. Our reservation was for 3pm. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. The table for two was a bit small for me (I am a big guy), so I asked if we could be seated at a larger table. Despite being fairly busy, they quickly and happily moved us to a table for four to accommodate my size. The food and service was outstanding. The three-course dinner offered choices of squash soup or butternut squash salad. My mom had the soup, I had the salad. Both were great. The entree choices included filet mignon, pork chop, turkey, salmon, or squash ravioli. Being traditionalists, we both opted for turkey. The turkey was moist, tender and flavorful, served with sausage stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy. My mom substituted Brussels sprouts for the potatoes. Our dinners were wonderful. My diminutive mother took half her dinner home with her, but I cleaned my plate (partly explaining my size). For dessert, we both chose hot apple pie ala mode. This was probably the best apple pie I have ever been served. We each had a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon with dinner and were very happy with it. Everything from A to Z was exceptional. Our server, Brimah, was great. He was pleasant and attentive without being obtrusive or obsequious. The food, presentation and service were all flawless. We have had the filet mignon, dry aged ribeye, short rib, mac and cheese, crab cakes, filet mignon tips. All were superb. The chef will NOT overcook your steak and if anything, might undercook a bit. I've been to this restaurant many times and had a very pleasurable dining experience. However, I came here for my birthday today and the server, Lydia C, was below par at best. We got our bread and drinks and put in our order. From the time after we got our food she did not check up once to see if we needed anything - our water cups were empty and I wanted another glass of seltzer. She walked by us to tend to the other tables next to us multiple times and had lengthy conversations. We had to flag her down to get a dessert menu. Once we had the menu I thought she would come around to ask us for our order but she went to the table after us and next to us. We had to flag her down AGAIN to ask for the check and then you guessed it - flag her down again to pay. Now I want to say I am patient and I understand how busy and overwhelming it can get (I was in the service industry at one point) but when you have time to solely visit one table and completely ignore another one - that's where I get annoyed. This was my birthday dinner and it was less than ideal. I actually wanted to try the cake but I wasn't about to wait another year until I was finally observed to place my order. I give this review 3 star because the food was good, ambience was good, and I've been to this restaurant and had excellent service before. Went to Witherspoon Grill for a late mother-daughter dinner on a Saturday night. I've been to this place several times before and knew that we'd get a solid meal. The hostess was an old HS classmate of mine and couldn't be friendlier! We were allowed to sit at the bar for cocktails since we were early for our reservation. Will, the bartender/wine director, was highly knowledgeable about all kinds of different liquors, and my mother and I ended up enjoying some nice tequila on the rocks. When were seated, we had a dozen delicious oysters, three of each type they had available. We then split a wedge salad, a dry aged strip steak cooked very rare, a baked potato and creamed spinach. All except the baked potato were made to perfection and tasted amazing. The potato was a little cold, but our waiter Lido was attentive and brought it back in a much better condition. He also recommended some red wine as a second drink. Overall, while some reviews have noted the inconsistencies WG tends to have (which are rooted in reality), I myself had a highly enjoyable meal and know that others will too! read more

I ordered the rack of lamb and was given 4 flimsy pieces (2 ends with hardly any meat) and they charge $45 for the plate. Robbery in my opinion. My brother ordered a Strip steak, which looked came from Outback Steakhouse. They probably share the same meat purveyor. Unfortunately a niche "celebrity" who plays impractical jokes on people came in and his party was sat in the same small room as mine. He must be a regular since they allowed his poodle-esque small dog inside the restaurant with dog bed and all. I figured it could be an emotional support dog, but it barked a couple times and they aren't considered service dogs. Then I heard, assuming it was his girlfriend say (in a whiny entitled voice) "we were going to sit outside, but it was too hot." Nah, it was 8pm on a breezy July night; it was actually perfect out. It pains me to leave a negative review because I reliably visited Witherspoon 2-3 times/month before the pandemic, but the prices have skyrocketed, the brunch menu is gone, and the overall quality has turned incredibly disappointing. We visited in mid-May 2021 for the first time in over a year. Everything was over- or under-seasoned and poorly cooked; all of our grilled meats (ordered medium) were charred on the outside and legitimately rare on the inside. I'm pathologically conflict-averse and *hate* making a fuss when we eat out, but had we not been on a ticking clock because of an infant with us, most of what we ordered would have gone back to the kitchen for a do-over.
