Withnell has been my Hyundai service department for years, and a recent experience reminded me why. I brought my Ioniq PHEV to Withnell after an unsafe repair at a dodgy Portland-area Hyundai dealership left me with more questions than answers. Withnell's Shop Foreman, Perry, took the time to actually inspect the work, found a hold-down bracket and terminal cover that hadn't been properly secured near the high-voltage area, and fixed it correctly. No hand-waving, no defensiveness, no condescension: he showed me the problem and clearly explained the solution. The entire Withnell team has been consistently incredible over the years, which I'm sure is due in no small part to Service Manager Duncan Berry, who is exactly the kind of person that you would want overseeing the department. Duncan is unfailingly kind, thoughtful and will always make sure that you have the most accurate information. I know that his job must be difficult sometimes, but the integrity and warmth that this man brings to every interaction is second to none. It's also worth mentioning that several of the service center staff have been with Withnell for nearly 20 years, which says a lot in an area with an exceptionally high-demand for qualified mechanics. On the front desk, Kristopher and Bradley have been fantastic advisors: always responsive, knowledgeable and straightforward. In the garage with Perry, I've been fortunate enough to meet Kyle, Colby, Ray, Andrew and Eric -- I always appreciate their work and fun banter. In the parts department, I'm not sure that there's anything that Rob, Tyler and Jake don't already have in stock. I've never had to wait or reschedule, which is pretty wild given some of the Ioniq part backorders over the years. I give this business 1 star at best. My new car less than 500 miles and they preformed an added service of seat protection as well as paint protection. My black interior has white marks along with the material on the seats being streaked with white/gray. Their response is it's my problem, they've never seen it before, and refuse to give me their insurance information to file a claim. Not a single part of today was the typical car-buying experience, it was all positives! The team that helped us (Victor, Bill, and Paul) were all respectful, concise, transparent, and at no point did we feel our time was wasted. I just purchased my 2nd RAM from Withnell in Salem. My first Ram was a used 2018 and it has been one of my favorite vehicles hands down owning. My story of what I consider, above and beyond expectations level of service. On October 29th I purchased a '24 Santa Fe Limited Hybrid from another dealership. There was a vibration that I was told was just wheel balancing and it would be resolved. Well, it wasn't resolved by balancing the wheels and tires. I took the car to Withnell in Salem so they could take a look at it. What they found went well beyond wheels and tires needing to be balanced. From the factory the vehicle was plagued with numerous issues ranging from bent axles to drastically out of spec wheel alignment. Issues that the technicians worked hard to resolve. Sadly, the technicians were not able to completely fix this issue, and the car was bought back by Hyundai. As of the writing of this review I have no idea what the disposition of the vehicle is. I can only guess what will happen to it. This review is to praise the service that I received from them. Kristopher made sure I was informed frequently on what was going on. I was given a loaner vehicle which I had for over three months while they fought with that car. I have never seen this level of service from a dealership that I didn't buy a car from. To say, they were tenacious about trying to fix this issue would be an understatement. The service department is fantastic in my opinion. Understanding, kind and apologetic every time I spoke with them. They never gave up even when I had. Thank you for making this a little less stressful. Bought a 2016 Santa Fe brand new. Have had them service it religiously since we bought it. They had been s straight up with us and helpful since we bought the vehicle. Unfortunately this time we felt they were not honest in their services on our car on July 15, 2025. I went in because the seat adjustments controls were dead. Balding guy with dark rimmed glasses told me the "worst" case scenario would be "$180 plus parts BUT if it was just a fuse or connection that came unhooked they would prorate the cost quite a bit downward." I first knew something was up when I went in for my appointment. The service manager with the beard and myself were talking and he said it could be expensive to fix it.... I replied " Well this guy here told me 2 days ago $180 + parts would be the worst case scenario." AND he immediately interjected "Best" by the time I had said "scenario". I went hmmmmm? Soooo....it was a connection under the seat that someone had kicked and disconnected. It took their mechanic a grand total of about 15 seconds (if that) to plug it back in. Their charge? $180 for their grand total of 15 seconds of work. There was no "pro-rate of the cost". They gouged me for every last penny they could ....to plug something in. Almost every reputable shop would have made this something free or seriously reduced in cost for a customer who not only purchased their car a decade ago from Hyundai but who had religiously utilized their service department a couple of times a year for everything from oil changes to engine changes over the last decade. So...as far as I am concerned they killed this golden goose. I don't like being misled. I don't like bait and switch business practices. I don't like price gouging of a captive audience. Prior to this interaction we were planning on going there in August to buy a brand new Sonata for the wife and a used car for the 16 year old. For the last decade they had been our choice for all service on our Hyundai. They were even our choice for rental vehicles several times in the last decade. Came here for a bunch of upgrades/recalls for my car (free stuff). Very nice people, comfortable waiting area, free coffee and whatnot. Nice atmosphere. My car actually feels more responsive, thanks to some sort of upgrade they did to the software that controls the AWD. Felt cool to drive away with my car feeling healthier. I mean, I can't really afford a new car, but I would recommend this business if that is what you are looking for. I assume they also sell used. I definitely recommend Hyundai. I was shopping for a new Elantra, so I visited Withnell first as they are in my town, and I love their service department. However, all the Elantras had at least a $2000 "market adjustment" markup. The sales guy blamed this on the "chip shortage". I suspected this was actually the dealership trying to swindle more money out of the consumer. I left and searched the internet. 20 minutes south of Salem is Albany Hyundai. Super nice dealership and they do not have "market adjustment" markups tacked on. Driving to Albany saved me about $2500. Service is great at WIthnell, but buy a car somewhere else until they ditch the extra charges. read more

I went in today to get an oil change and to get my gas gauge checked out. I was informed I would be getting a call around 12pm (my appointment was for 10am). Well 1:15pm rolls by and I have not gotten a call, and not a single person has come and talked to me. I finally go ask someone how much longer it's going to be and it turns out, the mechanic working on my car went to lunch. So nobody has been working on my car for god knows how long, and I'm just sitting here waiting. So finally someone comes and talks to me about my car and gives me some suggestions they had for me. However that mechanic informs me that somebody else would be discussing my gas gauge with me... which is mostly the reason I had made this appointment, plus it cost me $130 just to have them inspect it. So the nice women in the front office is trying to help me best she could but nobody is really helping her. The mechanic comes in, hands her my paperwork and says "can you take it from here?" She clearly tells him, that's not my level of expertise and he just proceeds to walk and says he's going to finish my car. So she looks at me and asks, " do you want me to order these parts?" And I am so confused because nobody has told me I need parts for anything yet!! She says she needs to go find ANOTHER mechanic to talk to me.... So another 20 minutes go by.. I have now been here for almost four hours when someone comes up to me... simply reads me what he highlighted on my paper (of course it's all the parts he says I need, which added up to over $2,000) and then says anything else? I was so annoyed and sick of being their i just paid for my services that day and left. NOTHING was explained to me at all and yet they want me to pay over $2,000 dollars for them to fix it. Withnell likes to advertise as a family business with focus on community. So of course in a time with low supply they take advantage of the opportunity to add a $15,000 market adjustment. "Hey, everyone is doing it!" Not everyone is doing it so 2 stars for the adolescent argument (sorry adolescents!). Also, "we're in a war is an insult to those in a war and it's just profiteering/gouging. In fact, Hyundai doesn't want dealerships to do it and Toyota and Honda dealerships in Salem are not gouging...errr adding market adjustments. Dropping to 1 star because of the times I see Withnell "supporting" the community - I can see how, and the "we're just regular folks" withnell commercials. Apparently I can't buy a car in Salem. I've been trying for more than 20 years but it just never seems to work out. We set up an appointment to test drive at 9:30, and by 10:30 we were negotiating terms. We were looking for a lease to replace our van, which by my research had a trade-in value of $24-26k. I was very, very clear that I would only be putting any equity we had in our van toward the down for the lease. They came back low on the trade and wouldnt budge on the total for the new car, so the numbers weren't where we needed them. The salesman went back to his manager to see what he could do but we were ready to walk. At around 11:30ish he came back with a higher trade value and showed us the monthly payment, which was the total we'd asked for. In the back of my head I was thinking "I cant figure out how they're making these numbers line up, the math doesnt make sense." But I knew I'd been clear on my plan so I trusted the salesman understood and had set things up to make it work. The we waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. 3 hours we waited. When we finally got in with the next salesman...errr finance guy, he made an offhand comment about running my card twice. I asked why, and he said once for the service prepay and another for the down. I said, "We're using the trade equity, I'm not putting any other cash down." Well lo and behold, the monthly lease payment we'd been given was with our trade AND an additional amount equal to the equity in our trade - so 100% more than we'd discussed. The finance guy explained it on the confusing paperwork. Well, that's not what we'd asked for, nor what was explained. So the sales manager (Robert) came in, massaging the numbers but he couldn't get things to pencil out. We got up, and expressed our frustration about waiting so long only to find out we wouldn't be getting the car. Robert's response was that we were "last in line" and they had 4 other deals before us. We reminded him that wasnt our fault. He then went with what I could only describe as a desperate resuscitation of "Sales 101: Overcoming Objections" - he said, "I acknowledged your frustration, I apologized, and I threw $2k at you, what more do you want?" After a bit more back and forth sparring about values and the math, we left, having wasted 4 hours of our day. We see Tonkin has their markups clearly posted on their website, so we'll wait til the market loosens up a bit and go see what they can do. read more

From the time we started our interaction with Withnell Hyundai we were misled, every step of the way. My wife first got in contact with Liz through text messaging so we, of course, have records of this conversation if anyone requested them. She had been in contact for a while as my wife was looking to buy a new Hyundai Kona and was heavily considering using Withnell because of their "deals". Well, they not only didn't hold up, they didn't even honor the price on their OWN website, https://www.withnellhyundai.net/. At the end of this I will include the 2 pictures taken of this deal they did not honor so others may see this bait and switch and case of false advertising. My wife was checking their site daily and came across a deal she wished to check out on a silver Kona with a black top for $24,930 and a Withnell Discount of $3,933 bringing the price to $20,997. She thought this is worth checking out so she first reached out to Liz to confirm the Silver Kona was still available that was shown at $20,997 on their website and she confirmed. We said we were coming from Eugene and would be in around 2:40pm and she confirmed they were expecting us and would have everything ready. Not only did this prove not true upon our arrival but no one knew anything about us. She told us to talk to Bentley which we did and he had no clue who we were and seemed to spend quite a while even finding the car. After finding it he pointed out that the Sales Manager John was upset because he had advertised the car at the wrong price on their website first bringing the error to our attention. While we were looking the car over as we actually intended on getting a gray Kona but really Loved the silver upon seeing it John, the Sales Manager, came out with a print out. He openly admitted to his mistake and said, no matter what, he would NOT honor this price. We pointed out that we had a conversation saved showing Liz confirming this deal and it's availability before we left Eugene he said he would go inside and see what he could do. He manipulated numbers and came back saying that he would honor a price that would come out to the advertised price. We spent about 20 minutes deciding and finally decided to pull the trigger. From that point forward we were blocked and lied to consistently as John had no intention of honoring the price regardless of his mistake and it being on their website. We sat down, willing to do the 0.9% financing with our immaculate credit and saying we would choose that over the $1500 cash back, as advertised, and they flat out refused and changed everything until the price was where it was supposed to be in the first place. His math didn't hold up. He clearly had told Bentley to block our attempts as he went from friendly to repeatedly saying he told us that John messed up from the time we first saw the car. This is true but that doesn't change the fact that has nothing to do with us. We came to buy the car at the advertised price as per the website. We did our part to confirm before making the drive from Eugene with Liz and have, in recorded texts, the conversation between my wife and her even confirming the price and car with a reply confirming to come on down. We did nothing wrong. We would NEVER expect Withnell to admit to their mistake and their obvious deception upon discovering THEIR mistake by the Sales Manager John but we thought we would warn others so they could learn from our mistake and take their business to a dealership that has morals and honor. We had planned on using Withnell for purchasing our new 2020 Kona because of their advertised prices but, after discovering the truth, we now realize they are a classic example of a bait and switch company who won't honor their advertised prices and John will say and do anything up to and including flat out lying to keep customers from getting a fair price. We purchased a 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz January of 2022. this year alone, we have had to have the gas tank door pried open 4x in 3 mos due to the actuator not working properly. We brought it to Withnell's attention, they said that someone at the gas station had to have pried it open. No gas station is going to take that liability, I would go immediately from the gas station to Withnell to have them open the gas tank door so I could go get gas. Withnell tried to tell us their staff would put rags under their tools when it comes to prying things open. Apparently, they didn't because the paint all the way around the door was chipped and all the way into the metal. I also needed a door seal replaced, was told it was under warranty, and then when I went to pick up my Santa Cruz today I was told it was not under warranty, yet I have it in writing. The service manager told me today that if he cant get the work covered, that he personally would pay for it himself. The loaner car was dirty inside, had dog hair, sticky stuff and paperwork inside the console, as well as leaf debris in the trunk. I told them about it and that i didnt want to be charged and that I have pictures of the cars condition and the manager said "don't worry we won't charge you." Initially, when I went to get my vehicle today, the service manager was a bit rude and short with speaking to me. Wouldnt listen to anything I was saying. We, personally, will not ever purchase another vehicle from this car lot. Never have I been treated so bad by any dealership before. read more

My wife and I had been looking for a Hyundai Palisade for months. We test drove them a couple times and were sold on the Limited trim. We visited the dealership 3 or 4 times. They finally got a white Palisade in so we dropped by and made the deal. Both Keanu and Daniel were easy to work with. They were helpful in answering questions and showing us the plethora of vehicle features. They both have contagious upbeat energy to them and were very patient with us and our wild 2 year old spawn. I would highly recommend asking for one of these two guys to work with. The paperwork process was the fastest and most seamless of any dealership we'd ever been to! Usually the finance guy tries to shove a bunch of unneeded add-ons down your throat. Dillon was quick and to the point about everything. Very professional gentleman. I wanted to buy local but I guess I'm going to have to do further research. While I realize the pandemic did cause problems for many many businesses and the car business was one as well. But I truly feel that dealerships such as this have decided that price gouging is a better way to do business than just be honest business. I was told this week on Sunday that they had new plug-in coming this month. I asked what's the markup. I was told I don't know yet. I knew that they had charged quite a bit before around 7500 for the plug-in models. I was hoping that they were going to decrease that amount but instead they doubled it. I will wait indefinitely and look at other dealerships, possibly even going to Kia before I pay a ridiculous amount over MSRP 14990 for any car. When advised the price had been inflated about $4000, I was astounded. They said it was an area markup. Then they said the markup is on their website. I've never thought about writing about a dealership before, but I felt the need to with this one. I honestly have never had more problems than with this one. I got into a hit and run accident a couple months ago and so unfortunately I needed to buy another car. I didn't have the money to begin with, but somehow worked it out to get something for a down payment. I really wanted another Hyundai just because it had done so well in my accident with me not getting hurt. That was my main criteria to purchase a new one. My grandma had gotten hers there so I figured, it was a good place to go. I was wrong, and now my grandma won't deal with them again and my mom won't either when it comes time to buy her a Hyundai. We'll look somewhere else. First of all, they were trying to sell me all kinds of used cars that I told them I didn't trust in the first place. Finally they said they'd make a deal on one of the cars and give us a discount. Well we learned later that never happened. In between we were looking at leasing a new car but then they wanted a ridiculous amount of money down, and I didn't understand the point when we were just going to lease it. Besides, they already knew our situation and that we couldn't pay that much. Ok skip to finally getting the car, signing papers, etc for more money than I wanted to pay, but I was in a bind and didn't have any more time, so it was either that or have no job anymore. About a week later they call and say our loan didn't go through and we'd have to bring the car back. By this time I wasn't in the state and so I said I couldn't now. They said too bad. I was wondering why we were able to take it off the lot if the loan hadn't gone through yet. Well it ends up we are paying double of what I could pay, and will somehow have to figure it out. in some ways this seems like just an angry rant, but honestly I really want people to know that if you are not in a perfect situation this could happen to you. I would be very careful about going to them unless you have a lot more time, a lot more experience, and are able to fight a little more on getting what you want. I have dealt with dealerships in the past that were a little shady when giving you a deal on your trade in when they knew full well that the car they were selling was priced way too high to begin with. BUT I still had great service with them and everything was taken care of BEFORE we were able to get away from the dealership. SERVICE DEPARTMENT FAILURE Received conflicting information when I called in asking if I should drive my car with the oil pressure warning light on. I was told by the Service Department OK to drive. Checked the Owner's Manual which said DO NOT DRIVE. Called back and was told check the oil and if oil, OK to drive. They could not tell me why Manual said do not drive. They told me to bring in vehicle at 11:00 am the next day. Then informed there would be a $130.00 fee for diagnostic test and basically gave me the "bums rush" trying to get me off the phone. Lots of attitude from the service advisor. I then called next day and they did not have a record of my appointment! They could not explain that either. I have no confidence in Withnell Service and I am taking my car elsewhere. This is not the first time I have had poor, uncaring service from Withnell. I purchased a 2013 vehicle with low miles from Withnell in 2015. It was a limited edition and not many were made. It appeared to be in excellent condition and was priced accordingly. I was willing to pay the premium price because it was exactly what I wanted and there were no others available in western Oregon at the time. They touted its clean history and flawless maintenance records. Fast forward to this week, when I was going to trade it in because I need a different kind of vehicle now. Upon trade-in inspections of the vehicle, it was discovered that both the hood and front passenger quarter-panel had been replaced (no VIN stickers), so it had clearly been in a significant accident that was not disclosed to me. No way would I have paid a premium for the vehicle with that kind of repair history. (Truthfully, I wouldn't have even bought it.) I've learned my lesson: NEVER buy a used car - even from a large, franchised dealer, and regardless of what CarFax, etc says - without an independent prepurchase inspection. And I would encourage you to never buy from Withnell. There is no way they didn't know about the repair - both dealerships noticed the missing VIN stickers and knew what it meant instantly. It's my fault I didn't get the inspection before buying, but Withnell has crappy business practices and misrepresented the car's history to me. Never again. read more

The single worst service department visit I have ever had. "Duncan" was hostile and rude from the beginning. They didn't actually do the repairs they told me had been done, it even said they completed the repair of my undercarriage on the paperwork, but nope, there is a rubber flange hanging down and dragging on the ground (which was the original problem with the undercarriage.) I also had an issue with my spoiler coming loose, which I assumed would be covered under warranty. Duncan advised me it would be 200.00 to fix. When I asked him why it was not covered he barked back "I don't know, I wasn't there when YOU broke it, but I will allow you to take the car somewhere else where they will tell you the same." I DID take it somewhere else, Traschel Auto body on Broadway. Justin, who incidentally used to work for Hyundai, took the car right in. I had a fixed spoiler and a re-attached flange in 20 min, plus they washed and vacuumed my car and said the work was so minor that they didnt feel right charging me.
