Stopped here on 7/14 to pick up a couple orders of the Witt Taters for family. The Witt taters are the base of the loaded baked potato. So instead of your traditional russet, it's sliced red potatoes, and red potatoes are my fave! I elected to do chopped beef and chicken on our orders. I called my order in, the service was excellent and I was in and out. Everyone really enjoyed their food! Make sure to get the bbq sauce. I don't know how it's made but it's sooooo good! I went during lunch time and there was a line coming out the door, but I only waited 10 minutes to actually order and get seated. They are super efficient with their process and the staff was really nice and responsive.. I ended up ordering the brisket plate with Mac and cheese and potatoes. I also got the banana pudding. The brisket, for the most part was dry but what really gives this place 4 stars Are the sides. The mac and cheese was creamy and the ratio of cheese to noodles was perfect. So I've been to the other bbq place right down the street so we wanted to try out a different place today so we chose here. First impression: nice little place, packed parking lot, must be good. We go in and wait a few minutes in line, customer service person was quick to the point, wasn't rude but wasn't friendly either. Not what I expect when I come to a bbq place. We were informed that the dining room was packed so we could take our food to go or eat on the patio. We stated that we would wait for a table inside to which the response given was, "fine but you'll probably be waiting 15 minutes or more" That's fine, we will wait. We get our drinks, then our food comes up and lo and behold there is a table open in the dining room. Waited a total of maybe 2 minutes, tops. Though the feeling my whole party got was that she was trying to convince us to leave as though she didn't want us there. It wasn't just me, 3 people felt that way and even the person behind us was like "omg how rude." Later on the same counter person was in the back dining room making small talk and creepily hitting on the young male employee who was taking out the trash. Telling him how if he was 20 years older "you just don't know what I'd do to you" ....umm eww. We are trying to enjoy our lunch and not listen to a creep employee hit on a young coworker. When it came to the food, green beans were okay, needed seasoning. Mac and cheese was okay, needed seasoning. Potato salad was watery and wet but the flavor was okay. Brisket had a nice smoke ring to it, it was fairly tender but it lacked flavor. The building itself felt like a bbq place and that was nice and cozy and country. Really enjoyed the Witt Taters as an alternative for a regular baked potato. The potatoes themselves were well seasoned and dressed and the brisket was fantastic. $22 per pound for brisket is a little rich for me so this place won't be making it to my regular rotation but it's a great spot for when I drive through Rosenberg! This is one of the better BBQ spots I have tried since moving to Texas this year. The brisket was juicy and had a great crust on top. The ribs were done perfectly! The meat slid off the bones and the seasoning was very tasty. From the outside this doesn't look like much, but the dining room was clean and cozy. I really liked that they have a staffed counter for the "Fixings". You can get sauce, pickles, jalapeños, etc. Everyone here was very pleasant and helpful. There was a delay with my order, and to make up for it the guy who served me threw in an extra rib, no charge! The aroma is amazing as you walk through the front door. The line forms to the right as you enter with the menu on the wall as well as above the cashier. The cashier was very efficient and the gentleman preparing the orders was listening closely to each other as to expedite each order. The orders, even large carryout orders, were being filled timely. Very little wait and folks seemed to know exactly what they wanted so the line disappeared quickly. The cozy atmosphere is just what you'd expect with a small, family owned restaurant you'd find traveling through Texas. Casual, comfortable, laid-back atmosphere where people go for good barbecue. There are two dining areas, the main area you enter with one large table and a second area that's an all-seasoned enclosed patio with a small open patio. The 4-top tables are easy to pull together for larger parties. After you have your tray you can go to the sauce and condiment bar for the BBQ sauce, pickles, onions and jalapenos. The soda fountain, Pepsi products, is located at the end of the counter. Several types of bottled beers are available at the end of the order counter. My order was the brisket plate served with two sides. The brisket plate ($11) is served with 3 slices of brisket and I added two ribs for an upcharge of $4. My sides were the Buttered New Potatoes and Mac & Cheese. The mac & cheese had perfectly cooked noodles, not mushy, and the buttery potatoes were delicious as well. The brisket and ribs had little to no fat and was perfect for me. The smoky oak flavor was very enjoyable with the sauce on the side. I can see why so many folks are grabbing carryout and dining here. My mother had the large, loaded baked potato topped with the delicious chopped brisket. The potato could easily be split between two people. Of course we had to order the peach cobbler for desserts which did not disappoint. Cool place, warm and cozy atmosphere with good, affordable Texas barbecue and friendly staff. You can be in and out in just a few minutes or sit and enjoy a solid meal. Witt's is located in a small house set back from the street with a gravel lot that my wife spotted and thought it looked like a hole-in-the-wall, so we decided to give it a try. When we walked in, I could tell from the signs and set up that it was more restaurant and less of an adventure, but it smelled good. We tried brisket, turkey, and jalapeno sausage. All were delicious and had good smoke flavor. The fat on the brisket was perfectly emulsified. The turkey was moist and seasoned throughout, likely with a good brine. It had pepper for a nice bite on the turkey. The sausage was good with a semi coarse grind and more pepper than just the jalapeno in it so each bite was bold, but not hot. The green beans were the classic Texas style with onion and were the perfect side. Brisket is critical and always the measure of a place, but the choice of sausage says a lot and the turkey shows mastery of the barbeque art. The bottom line is that these guys know what their doing. read more
