Favorite sushi in the area, I get the papas choice EVERY time.

This is the second visit for my husband and I. I really wanted to return after our first visit this past February. Over two visits we tried a variety of sushi rolls and a couple of appetizers. The mix of flavors in the sushi rolls is amazing and well beyond others I have had. Usually I stay away from rolls with tempera crunch on the outside of the roll as it is usually chunky and not appealing. But the tempera they use is small/light and complements the flavor so it does not over power the roll. Our favorites are St Charles roll and the inky roll. Today we also tried the special roll with lobster claw (don't recall the official name). This is now one of my husband's top picks. The servers have been patient and willing to explain the different ingredients I was not familiar with. read more

We have eaten here twice now. Everything we have ordered is sweet (meaning sugar-sweet). We have ordered noodle dishes, soups, and stir-frys and while other good flavors come through, the dishes are so sweet that they actually make you feel bloated. I haven't tried their sushi yet, but I tend to only like sushi made by Japanese/Korean chefs. read more

Wok 'n Fire is such a refreshing new restaurant in St. Charles! The style and decor of the restaurant is unbelievable. A beautiful blend of Asian and modern. We were completely mesmerized by the lighting fixtures, many of which gradually change color (in a very tasteful, not carnival kind of way!) They play FANTASTIC music, a nice blend of contemporary artists, slightly pop, slightly alternative, and the volume wasn't overpowering to conversations. The cocktails from the bar were a very pleasant surprise. They were a great value and all 6 people in my party ordered something different and were all very pleased with the flavors and strength of the mixes. The food was delicious, well portioned stir frys (although not huge portions - no one in my party had leftovers, and we often do). None of us ordered sushi. The waitstaff was very friendly, accommodating, and attentive. My husband and father-in-law's dishes were mixed up when served, but they didn't even realize it until their plates were almost empty... so no big deal. As soon as we walked into this restaurant we were overwhelmed by the smell of fish. Yea, i understand is a place that serves seafood, but it should not smell as bad as it did when we were there, unless the fish is NOT SO FRESH! I choked down whatever I ordered which was nothing special. I couldn't get past the smell which then made everything taste, well, let's just say everything tasted "fishy".. Every time I come into town, I eat here. The food is fantastic, the people are friendly. The sushi is good as well as the Mizo Sea Bass. They have a great happy hour menu that includes half off Maki rolls and all appetizers. I usually order enough to make this my dinner with a few pieces of Nigiri. read more

I came to this restaurant on January 18th with my family. We had a great bearded server named Matt. We were there around 2pm. It was not busy and we did not feel rushed. Ok. I have been here 3 different times. I have had 3 different meals. Honestly none are memorable. I was disappointed that the one time I ordered scallops they came breaded...really? And not a good coating either...very gritty and bland. I had sushi one time here and all I can say about that is I've had much better at a lesser price. Staff was ok...just ok. Decor is nice and clean for the most part. I just seems to me that the place kinda gets by and charges more than they should for the mediocre food just because it's in St Charles. Main reason I'm giving this place a 4 star is because of the interior design -- unbelievably beautiful! the food itself. For starters, the miso soup was semi cold and EXTRA salty. The sushi we ordered was the Scorpion and the Crispy Crunchy roll. The Scorpion was decent. Right amount of spice added. The Crispy Crunchy roll was too soggy and didn't taste too fresh. Both were pretty over priced for the quality. Drinks were good, but still a little expensive. Overall, it was a decent experience. Nothing too impressionable though. read more

*FIRST UPDATE* I sent this same review as an email to the restaurant. I was contacted within 45 minutes, and a gift certificate was sent. I raised one star for the immediate reconciliation. I will update again with my third shot as soon as I try again. This was my second try. First try was meeting for drinks and appetizers on my birthday. Sat in the bar on a Monday night and received HORRIBLE service. The bartender was our server. She was friendly, but forgot key items (soy sauce, drinks, check). The only reason the food made it out was because other servers brought it. Second try was on a Sunday night. Had a reservation at six, but the table was not available until 6:10. After we were sat, it was another 5 minutes until a server made it to our table. It was quite obvious that he did not want to be there. The food was good, brought out promptly, but I did not feel welcome. As we were leaving, guests were arguing with the manager in the lobby because they had already waited 40 minutes past their reservation time. Something is seriously lacking with the service here. Oh my god, I love Wok N Fire! The tossed noodle dishes, the amazingly artistic & DELICIOUS sashimi & sushi presentations, the ambiance of the restaurant...it is the perfect Asian cuisine package for downtown St. Charles! I'd give you suggestions but will simply say TRY EVERYTHING!!!! It does get incredibly busy on the weekends so get there early, which is the only reason I don't give it 5 stars. Met girlfriends for lunch at 11:30. I think the help knew they were going to have a large party coming in at noon because they really rushed us. If we were'nt still using a spoon, they grabbed it off the table (like they were going to be short in numbers) The food was tasty. We shared different items so we could experience tasting the different dishes. While the decor is modern and definitely trendy for the area, the biggest complaint was the womens washroom. No one likes having to duck to the side of the toilet so you have room to close the stall door. There probably isn't more than a 2" clearance between toilet and door. My sister took my brother and I to this place as a thank you lunch. I'm always a little leery of Asian Fusion because it normally means they don't just concentrate on doing one cuisine well. This place really surprised me. My Dragon Roll was exquisite, my brother's spicy eel was excellent and my sister's pad thai was outstanding. Eel is slightly out of season but today's was fresh and well prepared. I also had the calamari appetizer and it was perfect; even my siblings, who are normally too picky to touch squid loved it.
